what horror trope are you?

the killer was there ever a choice? maybe, but that fork in the road is far, far behind you. you surround yourself now with sharp things, tools to harm, and they have become your only family. you are the thing that goes bump in the night, and you hunt for scurrying mice like a hungry cat. maybe, just maybe, though, one can finally put an end to your hunt, and allow you to finally rest.
"Oh okay, I'm just getting read like that again."

dunno if this even works, but take this shotgun and destroy some kneecaps

this is the ks-23, a pre-war russian shotgun chambered in 4 gauge, a big fuckoff round that mulches raiders and knocks super mutants on their asses! But if you feel really devious you can make some solid steel slugs that will punch through power armor and give deathclaws a run for their money :3
Shame ive been unable to find any ammo for it, ive had to custom make the projectiles and handload each shell, hope you know how to do the same. (Or you could bribe the gun runners to do it, god i wish i could do that)
I know that you basically get off on making fun of me but I have never wanted to kiss someone more in my entire life. Are you single? Do you like Couriers?

Do you pray over animals you've killed? I've heard some hunters pray over their kills but don't know any hunters I can personally ask
Yeah I have three stages of prayer for that.
Praying while handloading bullets. This is done on the weekends usually and is a prayer that I'm loading the powder accurately and it won't be a dud OR explode in my face, and also a prayer that the bullet strikes and strikes true.
Prayer the night before. Same deal. Hunt goes well, I get my marks, mostly praying that I don't have to make second shots to finish off wounded animals.
Prayer over carcasses while tagging them. This is along the lines of hoping they go to whatever afterlife animals go to. "If I am killed for simply living, may death be kinder than man" kinda shit.
I like shooting, I don't necessarily enjoy killing things. There's a level of respect owed to it all. They're animals. Their only crime was living, and in the case of invasive species, that crime is more the fault of man for introducing them than their own. I keep things as humane as I can, and I pray to whatever's out there that they get their rest and they have peace when it's all over.

so, assuming that those following me aren't well versed in gun stuff (especially gun history), here's a minor history lesson followed by a melt down. click the read more at your own discretion, as this guy's pretty long.
so: as it pertains to revolver handgun cartridges, a "special" round is what we call the weaker, older forms of a handgun round that we used to load with black powder. the most common special cartridge is the .38 special, which then got elongated by a few milimeters and loaded with modern, more powerful smokeless powder to create the .357 magnum (magnum being the catch all term for "powerful relative to its class, a .357 mag is powerful for a handgun round, a .300 win mag is powerful relative to it being a long action full powered rifle round, so on). i think the other, less common but still generally available "special" round would be the .44 special, which is the same deal as the .38 special but for the .44 magnum. they took this old black powder cartridge, lengthened it up by a bit so that you couldn't put the newer, more powerful round in an older, weakshit little baby gun since it Just Wouldn't Fit, so on.
now, i'm of the opinion that it's asinine to buy a gun that's exclusively in a special caliber. as far as i'm aware, every gun you can shoot .357 magnum in is capable of safely shooting .38 special, though with things other than revolvers you might run into issues feeding. the same goes for .44 mag, so on. that's like, one of the main benefits of a rimmed cartridge; headspacing is on the rim so if there's sufficient room, you can get a bit wacky with the rounds you're using (for instance you can generally shoot .22 short or .22 long in a .22 LR even though the average gun owner would be like "what the fuck is a .22 long" if you told them that). so if you're buying a handgun in the modern day, there's no god damn reason to get one exclusively in .38 special when it works (at least effectively) identically in a .357 mag revolver. there's definitely something to be said for the efficacy of using a weaker cartridge in a gun designed for a significantly higher power level, since you're gonna get less recoil, less muzzle blast, and less wear on the gun itself due to less Shit being exerted on it. but here's where i originally wanted to go with this rant:
why the FUCK did they design .500 S&W as its own revolver caliber, and then WORK BACKWARDS AND MAKE A GOD DAMN SPECIAL VERSION OF IT. that just makes it worse!!! i definitely think that if you're a handloader and you want .38 special performance, you could very easily (and arguably beneficially) use .357 magnum brass and just load it to be the same power level as a .38. the point of this would be to help with feeding in .357 magnum firearms that aren't revolvers (like lever actions) while still attaining that .38 special performance (good for suppressors due to being subsonic, and you can definitely get suppressors on most lever actions these days). the .38 special, in this case, if it were never made but the fates had aligned that .357 magnum was still to be made, i'd argue that'd actually be beneficial because you'd be able to feed the same thing in Literally Everything, and you could still down load it because again, there are situational advantages to a lower power level. so AGAIN, why WORK BACKWARDS from a magnum to a special round when you could just, and hear me out here, MAKE REDUCED RECOIL LOADS A NORMAL PART OF THE DAMN GUN. THATS A THING YOU CAN JUST DO. and ALSO, it's KINDA FUCKING STUPID that you're making a big fuckin deal out of how big this damn gun is, and how it's the most powerful handgun in the world and this and that, only to make a less powerful version of it. buddy, if i wanted a revolver that could do both really fuckin powerful and light recoiling, i'd just get a .44. this is supposed to be a guy for people who want MAXIMUM POWER, and this is kinda counterintuitive to that!!
this definitely got away from me and it doesn't actually make me like. Genuinely Angry. it's just something that's fucking stupid. i don't hate it, hate's a strong word and while strong is the best thing something can be, nothing about this topic is best and nothing about this topic is strong. except maybe your wrists if you fire enough .500 S&W

Important note for writers! In shotgun shot (anything that fires pellets i.e. the vast majority of shotgun rounds), there is a wadding (sometimes called a shot flower) that is also in the shell. This exits the barrel with the pellets, and often can be found reasonably intact (esp with lower power rounds) It doesnt have the same kinetic energy as the pellets (nor the areodynamics) leading it to hit the ground somewhere around 25-50 meters (using metric here cause thats what i learned this on) from the end of the barrel (though this will vary based on poweder loads, barrel length, and weather conditions).
Also somehtign I've seen misunderstood: the smaller the number in the round size (say 12 ga.), the bigger (and generally more powerful) the round!
The most common shotgun sizes are 12 and 20 gauge, though I personally have seen as small as 30 gauge (my grandpa had one for dealing with farm pests), to a 10 gauge, all the way to a whooping 2-bore (at a certain point of size it becomes "bore" rather than gauge, but its the same thing).
ALSO. If you're bored with just standard shot rounds (buckshot, birdshot, ratshot) here are some interesting rounds you can use for you characters:
Slugs: Slugs replace the standard shot with a single projectile. This tends to increase the range, accuracy, and penetrating power of the round, esp if the shotgun itself is rifled (many arent, for quick context, rifling are grooves cut down the inside of the barrel that catch the round fired and impart spin to it, increasing accuracy and range. Unrifled barrels are termed "smoothbore"). Putting a slug through most anything will render it inoperable, be it human or machine.
Coinshot: Coinshot is less common, but aims to combine the advantages of shotshell and slugs together. As the name suggests, it's often made of coins (though this isn't a requirement, any disk of metal can work as long as it fits) wadded to fit the shell. These are always custom made, and often handloaded (meaning someone is manually filling the cartridge or shell with powder, wad, and shot, or in this case coins) and can really tear things up.
Dragons Breath:
Dragons breath is an incendiary round, and usually combines standard shotshell with some sort of flammable medium, such as magnesium, to generate a burst of flame upon firing. These are often scary to work with, because if theres any issue with the seal of the breach and obturation of the shell, it's possible to get a massive ball of flame coming out the back end of the gun. Getting hit by them is also a one way ticket to pain town.
HEAT:
Standing for High Explosive Anti Tank, HEAT rounds are armor penetrating rounds that contain, atleast in the case of a shotgun, a small amount of explosive that detonates upon entering the target. These can be DEVASTATING to flesh, though there is some debate over their effectiveness against actual vehicles (the explosive could be considered negligible for this purpose)
Bean Bag:
Bean bag rounds are canvas bags filled with shot pellets, and are considered, and i cannot stress this enough, LESS lethal (as opposed to NON-lethal). They are used for riot control, and althought hey often use a reduced load of poweder, can still seriously damage a target upon impact.
Flechette:
Ironically out of all the rounds I've mentioned, these are one of the most scary. Flechette rounds contain dozens, (sometimes close to a hundred, depending on round size) of small needles. As you can imagine, this is DEVASTATING to flesh targets. With larger size powedr loads, they can often over penetrate, turning their target into a bloody pulp.
This is just a small and certainly non exhaustive list of exotic or non standard shotgun rounds available. Sorry this went on, but hopefully this addition will aid some of y'all writer and artist types out there.
a lot of artists dont know how to draw bullets and to be real it bothers me a lot. here's my simple guide on bullets

The .700 Nitro Express is a rifle cartridge that can produce a muzzle velocity of 2,000 ft/s (610 m/s) with a 1,000 gr bullet. Handloaders can increase the velocity to 2,600 ft/s (792 m/s), but the rifle would be too heavy for hunting.
Other fast rifles and rifle cartridges:
Lee–Enfield: A bolt-action rifle that was the fastest military rifle of its time.
AN-94: A rifle with a muzzle velocity of 900 m/s (2,953 ft/s).
M249 light machine gun: A 5.56 mm light machine gun with a muzzle velocity of 915 m/s (3,000 ft/s).
.17 Winchester Super Magnum: A rimfire rifle cartridge with a muzzle velocity of around 3,000 ft/s (910 m/s).
.257 Weatherby Magnum: A .25-caliber rifle cartridge that is considered the world's fastest in its class.
