🌹Thorn Princess🩸in the making! I’ve wanted to cosplay Yor Forger from Spy x Family ever since I read the manga in April! But having been on the road for 3 months, I only found time to start her this past weekend. After weeks of collecting materials, envisioning, planning and sketching, Yor is coming together fast! An evening of mock-up/pattern making and one full day of sewing later, I have enough to do a fit test! I’m leaning heavily into the “Thorn Princess” vibe and giving this costume more shape and fancy textures because Yor says this is the “nicest outfit” she owns! I have some extra fun details planned…. The inside fabric of the dress and the black faux leather trim are from my @cosplayfabrics line, both currently available in @joann_stores! Notes on fabrics because I’m a nerd: ▪️I had bought a different rose fabric but when I was looking through the yardage samples of the Fall 2022 collection, the Flower Brocade Velvet really jumped out at me. On a whim, I tried it and I love how extravagant it looks lol! ▪️The main black fabric is a heavier knit with an embossed velvet pattern that I haggled in the LA fabric district. It has a slight stretch and does NOT wrinkle 👍 ▪️By far, the most time-saving material is the faux leather trim and I thank the cosplay gods Joann keeps restocking it! ▪️I also found a vintage bodysuit in London with a rose motive and I wanna play around with it for fancy sleeves and such 🤔 ▪️The dress has a mini skirt built in, which is how I interpreted Yor’s design. In progress... “Sammlerin” (forager) 🍃 I got inspired and used some of the cute packaging from a recent @blackcreekbotanicals order and incorporated it into this next character. I feel the forager continues on the theme of the gardener piece I finished last week. I like working on these more artful dolls in as it helps perfect some of my processes. Now that I have been creating these dolls in a predictable amount of time with a consistent level of quality, I will soon have a price list for commissions. It’s taken me a while to feel confident to do so... I struggle with valuing my time, effort, and “craft”. A good number of my close friends have encouraged me to offer up my talents a bit more, and it’s meant a lot to me. I officially sold my first doll yesterday. I had a moment where I felt good in what I produced, and assured in the amount of care I had put into something. It was both a totally welcome, yet odd, feeling as I typically believe nothing I do is ever complete or good enough. “Sammlerin” here is definitely channeling some of the women I know and admire in my life, whose appreciation of, and connection to, nature have inspired me to make my own. #doll #art #crafts #sewing #folkart #nature #handmadewithjoann #makeitwithmichaels

Super simple rolled hem tutorial for you! I'm not the most experienced seamstress, but I'm self-taught and somehow manage! 😂 Wanted to share this for everyone who's asked for more sewing tips.⁣ ⁣ Mine ended up a bit wider than I wanted, closer to 3/16" when I intended 1/8". The fabric I used is a slippery Chiffon, and will be for a sheer tunic-dress- thing for Venusaur. Chiffon is a notoriously finicky and difficult to work with fabric, but sometimes that's what ya need for your cosplay!⁣ ⁣ A rolled hem is possibly the most standard way to hem this material.
