Another thing I wish more authors would take into consideration: that a name popular at a certain time and place, may not have been nearly as popular (or exist at all) at the same time in another place, even if the same language is spoken.
When the UK in the 1980s had Gemma and Emma and Nicola and Lucy, those name were very rare in the US at the same period. (I've never met a Gemma in the US, though I'm sure some are out there. Nicole was very common in the US during the same period, but Nicola was not.) For boys, the UK had Jack and Henry and Harry, while Jack and Henry regained popularity in the US in the 2000s, and Harry is still uncommon. On the girls' side, Hannah and Charlotte and Emma were common in the UK in the 1980s, and in the US about 20 years later. Good luck at finding a Nigel or Rupert or Giles in the US, or an Amber or Cody or Travis in the UK at the same time. "Jack" and "Harry" are more common as nicknames in the US, while they may be either a nickname or legal name in the UK.
Some names are more common for boys in one time and place, and for girls in another. Shannon, Taylor, Ashley, Jess(i)e (the "i" version more common for girls). Nicknames may also change. A Margaret in one place and decade is likely a Peg or Peggy, in another Meg or Maggie. A Richard might be Dickon, Dick, or Rick - again, dependent on time and place. "Chantal" might be the name of choice to imply someone is a chav, while "Krystal" is white trash. (Not demeaning either of those names. At all. I know those associations are horrible and unfair, but I've seen them used that way in media more than once.) Nicknames also vary by location - a Gazza might be Gareth in the UK, but no Gary would be Gazza in the US. Kylie was popular in Australia in the 1970s, but remained rare in the US during an era when Kyles and Kaylas were everywhere.
My point: choosing names is more than just "people in X language/location use Y as a name." Nobody would be confused to see the name Gareth or Tristram given to an American character born in the late 1970s, but it would also be highly unusual. If two American-born parents in a book set in the 1980s in America have children named Gareth (called Gazza), Jack, and Lucy, I'm going to raise an eyebrow. Same if British-born parents in the same period in the UK have kids named Tanner, Travis, and Amber. It's not impossible. It is unlikely.
Just something to consider. (Especially as the book I'm currently reading has American characters roughly my age named Lucy, Charlotte, and Gary. Possible? Sure. Likely? No. Jessica, Caroline, and Greg would be much more period-and-place-specific likely.)

My 2022 Christmas Letter to You...from 2010 (I’ll explain)...
"For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)
Each morning, I make a point to go through my Facebook memories of entries I had posted on that day in years past. Just recently, however, I had decided to go ahead and look further back on memories during the years when I was a husband, dating back to the years prior to September of 2012, and stumbled across a note I typed as a Christmas letter of sorts twelve years ago.
In 2010, I was spending Christmas in Bronston, a small town in the southern part of the Bluegrass State of Kentucky. At that time, I was married with our two young kids, Hannah and Jeremiah, and the four of us were spending the holiday with my mother and father-in-law. 2010 was not exactly an easy year for us back then. We had just learned a couple months prior, in October, that my daughter was type one diabetic. Life was okay during this time…but I had no idea that troubled times were coming and I was going to be on the road to divorce in less than two years.
Despite all that was happening at the time, I found myself at a computer, writing this note to send to my friends and loved ones on social media. It was a rather surreal moment as I did remember that we experienced a rather decent coat of snow outside during this festive time. Growing up in the South, a white Christmas is a rare treat rather than an expected obligation.
This morning, as I was reading through what I wrote twelve years ago, there were some things that I shared back then that bears repeating this year:
“As I sit here typing this short note to you, my Facebook friends, I cannot help but to feel overwhelmed at the fact that we have a Savior who we can rely on in all circumstances. Regardless of the difficulties that we have faced over this past year, we must consider ourselves truly blessed at the fact that we have been given a special gift from our Heavenly Father: His Son Jesus Christ!
“Over 2000 years ago, Jesus came into this world as a baby born to a virgin...yet, He came not just for Mary and Joseph on that night in Bethlehem but, rather, He came for all of us! The prophet Isaiah foretold of what the coming of Jesus Christ would mean to a world in need of a Savior: "A child is born to us...a son is given to us." All of us! What a special gift we have received from our Heavenly Father that would far outweigh any other gift that some jolly big guy in a red suit could ever imagine leaving under any tree.
“We're also quite blessed at what Jesus has been able to do for our family this past year. Despite all that has happened to us, we know that we serve a Savior who is able to take our burdens and to assist us through life's difficulties. Heck, even governments "will rest on His shoulders". That's why He is worthy of all the names that we still call Him today in our worship: Wonderful Counselor...Mighty God...Everlasting Father...Prince of Peace.”
Friends, may we never lose sight of the ultimate Gift that our Creator gave to us.
Thank you, my family, friends and loved ones, for being there for me. I love you all.
Merry Christmas.

THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT KATHARINE DREXEL The Patron of Philanthropists and Racial Justice Feast Day: March 3
"The patient and humble endurance of the cross - whatever nature it may be - is the highest work we have to do."
In 1891, Saint Katharine Drexel left her life as an heiress behind when she became a nun. She subsequently founded the order of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament and used her fortune to create new schools for Native Americans and African Americans across the United States. She died in 1955 at age 96 and was canonized as a Catholic saint in 2000.
Drexel was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 26, 1858. Her father, Francis Anthony Drexel, was a business partner of financier J.P. Morgan. Her mother, Hannah Jane (née Langstroth) Drexel, died a month after Drexel's birth; in 1860, her father was married again, to Emma Bouvier. In addition to their great wealth, her parents were known for their philanthropic endeavors.
Drexel was raised as a young heiress in Philadelphia and was educated at home. However, having traveled throughout the United States, she was aware of the difficult circumstances faced by Native Americans and African Americans across the country. Drexel — who lost her stepmother in 1883 and her father in 1885 — wanted to use her inherited wealth to help these groups.
Drexel supported several schools, including one that was located on a reservation in South Dakota. During a trip to Europe in 1887, she met Pope Leo XIII and asked him to recommend a religious order that could send missionaries to the institutions she was funding. He suggested that Drexel might undertake the missionary work herself.
In 1889, Drexel entered religious life as a novice under the training of the Sisters of Mercy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She took her final vows in 1891. With the help of a few other nuns, she founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament for Indians and Colored People (later known simply as the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament). The order would use Drexel's fortune to fund its work.
Drexel and 15 of her fellow sisters set up a school for Native Americans in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1894. This was followed by the creation of other schools throughout the Southwest, including ones on reservations. Drexel's order also opened many schools for African-American children. She founded a secondary school for African Americans in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1915. Ten years later, the institution became Xavier University.
Drexel suffered a heart attack in 1935; two years later, she gave up the leadership of her order. She died at the age of 96 on March 3, 1955, in Cornwell Heights, Pennsylvania. During her life she had given approximately 20 million dollars to help people in need.
Drexel's order had more than 500 members at the time of her death. With her assistance, the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament had opened 145 missions, 49 elementary schools and 12 high schools. Today, the order continues its missionary and educational work.
She is beatified on November 20, 1988 and canonized a saint on October 1, 2000 by Pope St. John Paul II.
Katharine Drexel is the patron saint of philanthropists, social justice and racial justice.

Patriarch Richard Barker, born in England circa 1621, was one of the original proprietors of Andover, arriving in the new world with his wife Joanna in the late 1630s. In fact, he might even be called the first settler of Andover. He was among a group from nearby Newbury and Ipswich who had petitioned for land in 1640. The first recorded business transaction in Andover, dated August 13, 1643, was Barker’s deed to land and livestock.
Barker originally owned 7 acres, then 10, and eventually, 300 contiguous acres, near “the Great Pond,” or Lake Cochichewick, in what is today North Andover. Barker was one of ten freeholders to establish the First Church of Andover in 1645. In August of 2000, Marjorie Wardwell Otten wrote in the Essex Genealogist (Vol. 20, No. 3), “There was hardly any town affair of importance for 50 years on record which does not bear Richard Barker’s name as party to or witness of, petitioner, etc.”
Between 1644 and 1663, Richard and Joanna had nine children. The families of three of their sons (John, William, and Ebenezer) and one daughter (Hannah) were directly affected by the witch hysteria that first arrived in Andover in May of 1692 with the arrest of Martha Carrier, and escalated in mid-July with ever-increasing accusations against Andover citizens. When all was said and done, more people were accused of witchcraft in Andover than in any other Essex County town.
On August 25, arrest warrants were issued for the Barkers’ second-oldest son, 47-year-old William Barker, as well as his 13-year-old niece Mary Barker (daughter of oldest Barker son John). William’s niece-by-marriage, 27-year-old Mary (Osgood) Marston, stepdaughter of youngest Barker daughter Hannah (who became Christopher Osgood’s second wife in 1680) was also named on the warrant. The complaint against all three was made by Samuel Martin of Andover and Moses Tyler of Boxford. Author Richard Hite, in his book In the Shadow of Salem: The Andover Witch Hunt of 1692, says, “This marked the beginning of the second phase of the Andover persecution.” All three were arrested by August 29, examined, and jailed in Salem.
The three Barker relations were accused of “woefully afflicting and abusing” three recently-afflicted local girls. One was Rose Foster, the teenage granddaughter of Rebecca Eames of Boxford (who had herself been accused of witchcraft earlier in August). Rose’s father was Andover constable Ephraim Foster. Another afflicted girl named in the complaint was Samuel Martin’s 16-year-old daughter Abigail. The third person, soon to be the principal accuser in Andover, was Moses Tyler’s 16-year-old stepdaughter Martha Sprague.
By this point, it was widely-thought that confessing was the only way to save one’s life. During his examination, William made a remarkable and elaborate confession, saying “he has been in the snare of the devil three years, that the devil first appeared to him like a black man and [he] perceived he had a cloven foot, that the devil demanded of him to give up himself body & soul unto him, which he promised to do…” William went on, in great detail, to explain that he had, indeed, tormented his three accusers, that he had signed the devil’s book in blood, and that the devil promised to pay all his debts. William said he previously attended a meeting of about 100 witches in Salem Village, where there was a sacrament of bread and wine, led by Reverend George Burroughs and the devil. (Burroughs had been hanged by this time, on August 19.) William even explained the devil’s intentions to “set up his own worship [and] abolish all the churches in the land.” William begged forgiveness for what he had done and promised to renounce the devil.
Thirteen-year-old Mary Barker also confessed to afflicting her three accusers, and said she had attended the witch meeting with her uncle, had been baptized by the devil in Five Mile Pond (known as Spofford Pond today), and she also accused Goody Johnson and Goody Faulkner of witchcraft (both were members of the extended Ingalls-Dane family), and added this colorful detail, “she has seen no appearance since but a fly which did speak to her, and bid her afflict these poor creatures which she did by pinching with, and clinching of her hands, for which she is sorry.”
Mary Marston’s confession was similar to that of her relatives – she confirmed that her uncle William Barker, her cousin Mary Barker, and she herself were witches, that she had afflicted her three accusers, and that she, too, had attended a witch meeting in Salem Village. When she was asked how long she had been in league with the devil, “she now saith that about the time when her mother died and she was overcome with melancholy, about three years since the black man appeared to her in the great room and told her she must serve and worship him. And so she did.”
On September 1, William’s son, 14-year-old William Barker Jr. was also arrested. He clearly had heard the details of the Barker confessions before him, as well as the news of the day, because his story was similar to his father and cousins, and he named recently-accused “witches.” Like his relatives , William Jr. was accused of tormenting Martha Sprague, Rose Foster, and Abigail Martin “which he did not deny but could not remember it.” He said he’d been a witch for six days and, “as he was going in the woods one evening to look after cows he saw the shape of a black dog which looked very fiercely upon him And he was much disturbed in his mind about it and could not sleep well that night.” He went on to describe a meeting with the devil, his own baptism in Five Mile Pond, and his mark in the devil’s book. He also named Mary Parker as a witch (she’d been accused of witchcraft in late August, along with four of her family members) as well as Samuel Wardwell, his wife Mary, and two of their daughters. The Wardwell family had been accused and arrested in late August and were examined on September 1, the same day as William Jr.
The last Barker family member to be caught up in the Andover witch hunt was Abigail (Wheeler) Barker who had married the third-oldest Barker son, Ebenezer, in 1686. On September 7, at the Andover meeting house, the infamous “touch test” took place. It was believed that an afflicted person would be “cured” if she or he touched a “witch.” The evil, it was thought, would flow back into its source. The touch test had been used in Salem examinations since May, but on this day, all of Andover’s accused and afflicted were gathered together at the meeting house. The accused “witches” were blindfolded and were led to the afflicted girls. If the afflictions ceased after touching one of the accused it was believed a witch had been identified. By the time the touch test was over, all of the accused women and men, at least seventeen people, had been confirmed as witches. Among them were Abigail Barker and Mary Osgood (wife of Richard Barker’s lifelong friend John Osgood).
Abigail Barker is particularly remembered for an account of the touch test in “an undated declaration prepared and signed by six suspects [one of whom was Abigail] just prior to the resumption of trials in January 1693,” according to author Richard Hite. All of the accused had been forced to participate, and all were found guilty. Said the remarkable declaration, “…we knowing ourselves altogether innocent of the crime, we were all exceedingly astonished and amazed, and consternated and affrighted even out of our reason; and our nearest and dearest relations, seeing us in that dreadful condition, and knowing our great danger, apprehended there was no other way to save our lives, as the case was then circumstanced, but by confessing ourselves to be such and such persons as the afflicted represented us to be, out of tenderness and pity, persuaded us to confess what we did confess.”
Although the date is uncertain, it is known that after his indictment, William Barker Sr. somehow escaped from jail and fled. As a penalty, his cattle were seized, and his brother John had to pay £2 10s to get them back. (William’s descendant George Barker has a theory that William may have hidden on an island in a nearby swamp, until it was safe to emerge after the trials.) Once the hysteria subsided, William Barker Sr. lived in Andover for the rest of his life, holding various jobs in town, including fence viewer and constable. He and his wife Mary Dix had thirteen children. William died in 1718 and is buried in the First Burial Ground in North Andover.
On October 3, 1692, John Barker and Francis Faulkner paid the bond for the release of three of the youngest accused: John’s daughter Mary Barker (aged 13), her cousin William Barker Jr. (aged 14), and Mary Lacy Jr. (aged 18). John Barker and John Osgood (whose wife Mary was also accused) later paid for the release of the rest of the jailed Andover children.
Mary Barker and William Barker Jr. were tried and acquitted by a jury in May of 1693. In 1704, the cousins, who had shared such a traumatic experience twelve years earlier, got married. The couple had eight children. They continued to live in Andover for the rest of their lives: William Jr. died in 1745 and Mary died in 1752. Both are buried in the First Burial Ground in North Andover.
Mary (Osgood) Marston and Abigail (Wheeler) Barker were both tried and acquitted in January of 1693. The former died in Andover in 1700, the latter in 1743. Abigail’s husband Ebenezer, who had waited until he was 35 years old to get married, lived to be 95, dying in 1746.
Patriarch Richard Barker died in March of 1693, and his good friend John Osgood died shortly thereafter.
Not everyone involved in the Salem witch trials is remembered in the same way. It’s important to highlight this quote from Marjorie Wardwell Otten in the Essex Genealogist, “Three men of Andover stand out in their efforts to defuse and to bring forth the falsities of the accusations: John Barker, John Osgood, and Reverend Francis Dane.” John Barker, who married Mary Stevens in 1670, was not only one of the voices of reason during the terrible events of 1692, and one of the men who paid to release the accused children, but he was a Deacon of the First Church, became a Sergeant in the militia in 1702, and a Captain in 1708. He died of smallpox in 1732, and is buried in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Boxford.
What led to the accusations against so many members of such an upstanding and respected Andover family? Sometimes the reasons are hinted at in the records – family feuds, personality clashes, long-standing neighborly accusations. In the Barkers’ case, there is nothing in the records that explains it. Author Richard Hite speculates that there may have been some dispute between the accuser Moses Tyler and the accused William Barker Sr. Their farms were only a mile apart, possibly even abutting, so perhaps there had been previous altercations. We will likely never know.
There are two additional family connections to the witchcraft trials worth mentioning: Rebecca Eames of Boxford, and her son Daniel, were both accused and jailed. Daniel was married to Lydia Wheeler, sister of Abigail (Wheeler) Barker.
The other intriguing relationship involves Andover’s Samuel Wardwell (hanged on September 22). When Wardwell was examined after being accused of witchcraft, he spoke of a disappointment in love from twenty years earlier: “He said the reason of his discontent then was because he was in love with a maid named Barker who slighted his love.” The target of his affections was oldest Barker daughter Sarah, who chose to marry John Abbot instead of Wardwell.
Today, the Barkers remain a pillar of the North Andover community. Barker’s Farm was established in 1642, and has been run by 10 generations of the family, making it the oldest continuously owned and operated family farm in the United States. Barker’s Farmstand on Osgood Street in North Andover is one of our favorite places.
Special thanks to George and Dorothea Barker, and Karen, Laurie, Beth, Dianne and Sam, for their help and generosity researching their family history.
Barker’s Farmstand is at 1267 Osgood Street (Route 125) in North Andover.

Golden Trio Era/Orwell Chess: Hufflepuff Edition
Cedric Diggory: ESFP-A/Cancer/1988-1995/Pure-Blood
The only child raised under a single father. Fifth-Year & Sixth-Year Prefect, Hufflepuff Seeker (Second-Year to Seventh-Year), Quidditch Captain (Sixth-Year). His favorite classes were Herbology and Charms due to his natural skill in them. It wasn’t until his seventh-year that Cedric Diggory interacted with Ciel Phantomhive—it was remarked as the scariest moment of his life (other than his death).
Susan Bones: ENTJ-T/Scorpio/1991-1998/Half-Blood
Only child raised under her aunt. Seventh-Year Prefect. She was adept in History of Magic and Charms, although, her favorite was Charms. She befriended Celaena in Herbology where the pair was praised for their efficiency. It was Susan who gave Celaena the idea of the third side in the war, which led to Susan leading the Ministry Reconstruction campaign. Between her and Malfoy, Celaena admitted to being glad that she was not Voldemort.
Hannah Abbott: ENFJ-T/Pisces/1991-1998/Half-Blood
The youngest child with an older brother working at St. Mungo’s. Fifth & Sixth-Year Prefect. She had a natural affinity for magical creatures and Herbology, leading her to aid Michael Corner in Seventh-Year in his potion-making. She was also in the Great Hall during the SWW, acting as a medic.
Justin Finch-Fletchley: ESTP-A/Aries/1991-1998/Muggle-Born
An only child born to a wealthy Muggle family–he recognized the Funtom Company rather well and tried to acquaint himself with Celaena. He excelled in Muggle Studies and Ancient Runes. However, he was not there for the SWW at Hogwarts, he did manage one of Celaena’s properties where he took care several refugees and students who could not go back to Hogwarts.
Ernest Macmillian: INFJ-T/Libra/1991-1998/Pure-Blood
The middle child where his older sister (Pippa Macmillian) was a Gryffindor. Fifth & Sixth-Year Prefect. His loyalty to the group allowed him to join in the internal school relief campaign during the seventh-year where he was in charge of making sure that every other prefect checked in about their students (he did so with Daphne Greengrass).
Zacharias Smith: INTJ-T/Leo/1991-1998/Pure-Blood
An only child who was branded as an Arnold Benedict. Hufflepuff Chaser (Fourth-Year onward). At first, his cynical nature was amusing to everyone, covering the points that may not have been covered. However, when it got too precarious, he quit, abstaining from the efforts. Celaena told everyone to leave him alone, knowing that he would not turn to Voldemort’s side.
Eleanor Branstone: INFP-A/Gemini/1993-2000/Muggle-Born
The only child to receive a Hogwarts letter, she is the eldest of three siblings. Hufflepuff Beater (Second-Year) and then Hufflepuff Seeker (Third-Year onward). A constant energetic person that brings energy with her wherever she moves. Ginny actually brought her into Hogwart’s Army where Celaena aided her in Illusory Magic, making her invaluable against Umbridge. Eleanor was not present for the SWW at Hogwarts, instead stayed at a safehouse provided by the Phantomhive family.
Laura Madly: ESTJ-T/Scorpio/1993-2000/Pure-Blood
An only child brought up strictly on the rules of the Wizarding World. Fifth & Sixth-Year Prefect. Her aura was subdued and easily managed, fooling everyone. Her Occulmency matched the level of Draco Malfoy’s and Theodore Nott’s. She was the Secret Keeper for several safe house properties, and she served her job well. It was her who figured out the magical limits to Celaena’s heirship through mere observation, saving them time during the SWW at Hogwarts.

Happy Birthday to Ian Rankin, born in Cardenden, Fife, April 28th 1960. in Fife, Scotland.
The creator of Inspector John Rebus was educated locally until going to Edinburgh University to read English, graduating in 1982. It was about this time that Ian Rankin first began writing short stories for magazines, with some critical success it seems. His first novel, The Flood, was published in 1986 by Polygon, an Edinburgh student press.
It is a notoriously scarce book, with a hardback print run allegedly of only 200 copies. Unable to ‘bring home the bacon’ with his literary efforts, Ian Rankin was forced to pursue a diverse number of jobs before Rebus finally made his debut in 1987. Knots & Crosses is once again a scarce book, with most of the print run having gone to public libraries.
It was never Rankin’s intention for Rebus to become a series character, indeed not even a crime fiction character, hence it was three years and two books later before Rebus returned in Hide and Seek. In 1991, Ian Rankin was awarded the prestigious Chandler-Fullbright prize in America. With it came a much needed prize of £10,000. However, there was a caveat that the money could only be spent in America. To that end Rankin proceeded to tour the US, with his wife, until the money ran out.
Despite a hectic writing schedule, Ian Rankin still found time for a pseudonym, Jack Harvey. Three novels were published by Headline between 1993 and 1995, Witch Hunt, Bleeding Hearts and Blood Hunt respectively. Once again, these novels also had small print runs and are, consequently, uncommon. Ian picked the name, being Jack, his first son, and Harvey, his wife’s maiden name. The marketing folk were pleased, reckoning that a name beginning with H could only be good, since it planted the book in the middle of the shelf, where the shopper’s eye would easily find it.
1997 saw the publication of what is widely regarded as Ian Rankin’s breakthrough novel. Black and Blue is a superbly crafted novel and was justly recognised as such by the Crime Writers Association who awarded it their coveted ‘Gold Dagger’. It was about then that I firsts started reading his books, in fact I was a voracious reader back then, I could often read a couple of books a week.
Inevitably Rebus was brought to the small screen, played by John Hannah (shown right), in 2000. Whilst well received, it has to be said the Hannah’s Rebus did not enjoy the televisual success of his fellow Inspectors, Morse and Frost.
In 2005, Rebus reappeared on television, played by Ken Stott, who was widely seen as better suited than Hannah for the part
Ian Rankin’s output continues to be prodigious and Rebus continues to have an increasing popularity amongst both collectors and readers alike.
While many know about Ian’s life as a crime writer, few know that he is also ina a rock band,  the author is lead singer in a five-piece band called "Best Picture'', which also features Bluebells guitarist, Bobby Bluebell . They released their debut single "Isabelle" in 2017 and made their live debut the following year. But Rankin revealed recently that it has now been over two years since their last gig due to Covid and admitted he may have to accept his singing days are numbered.
He said that their last gigs were in December 2019 when we supported Hipsway in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Ian commented at the opening of Edinburgh’s nwest record shop Thorne Records, at Bruntsfield;
"Most of us have got other jobs and the band isn't our whole life. I've been kept a bit busy writing during lockdown and since, so the band has taken a back seat, but who knows.
"I'm a guy in his sixties now so I think my time is limited as a rock star really. Starting from a baseline of having no talent, I'm not sure it's ever going to happen for me.
"Every crime writer I know would rather be a rock star than a writer. A lot of us join bands just for the fun of it. I was in a band when I was 19 and that should have told me that it was never going to be my career choice."
Ian Rankin is on Twitter and posts very regularly, definitely more than I do! His Twitter handle is @Beathhigh, which I assume is after Cowdenbeath High School. If you follow him you will get regular glimpses of Edinburgh life, particularly around The Meadows. Today he tweeted  “ Celebrating my 62nd birthday in Istanbul this morning.”
Ian is currently working "day and night" on his latest book

Introducing...
Lawson’s Girlfriend, Tiffany Espensen
Per their Instagrams, Lawson Bates + Tiffany Espensen are getting pretty cozy.  While it’s unclear if they’re pre–courting, courting, or whatever, it’s obvious that they’re in some sort of romantic relationship, and not trying to hide it.  So...  It’s time for an Introduction Post!
Tumblr media
Meet Tiffany
Tiffany Lian Espensen was born in Lianjiang, China on February 10, 1999.  She is 22 Years Old, as of March 2021.  At 13 Months Old (March 12, 2000), Tiffany was adopted by her parents, Dan + Robin Espensen, and moved to California.  As of 2021, she still lives in the Golden State.
Career   Tiffany Espensen is a professional actress, appearing in television and film.  Arguably, her most–notable role to date was “Cindy Moon” in Spiderman: Homecoming (2017), which she briefly reprised in Avengers: Infinity War (2018).  Before that, she had major co–starring roles on children’s television—Bucket & Skinner’s Epic Adventures (2012–2013), then Kirby Buckets (2014–2017).  She’s also a voice actress, with voice credits for movies, television, and video games.  She has appeared  in two made–for–TV movies and one miniseries.  And, she’s had one–off or minor roles on a few well–known shows, including House (2011), Lie to Me (2009), The Young & The Restless (2008), NCIS (2008), Criminal Minds (2008), and Hannah Montana (2007).  Her full filmography is on IMDB, for those who are curious!
Education   By junior high, Tiffany was homeschooled.  (This might have been due to her acting career, rather than for religious / ideological reasons, though.)  After high school, Tiffany chose to pursue a higher education, but continued to act at the same time.  She enrolled with Liberty University Online in 2016.  (She chose Liberty for its ‘biblical worldview,’ saying in 2017:  “I genuinely really love what Liberty is doing, and what it stands for.  It is so important because you don’t see many colleges today that stand for truth.”)  Tiffany graduated summa cum laude in August 2019, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.
Religious Beliefs   Tiffany is clearly religious...  She sought out a Christian, bible–focused college, and apparently factors her faith into her career.  She claims to be “very careful” in selecting “the roles I do and auditions I go on,” since she knows her choices will “represent Christ.”  She’s fairly outspoken about her religion on social media, as well...  She includes scripture in, like, every Post.
Other   Just a fun, weird fact...  Apparently she’s best friends with Bindi Irwin, Steve Irwin’s Daughter.  Unclear how they met, but their friendship appears to go back to 2014, at least!
Tumblr media
... and Tiffany’s Family
Tiffany’s Parents are Daniel Philip + Robin L. Espensen.  (Haven’t yet been able to track down Robin’s Middle or Maiden Names.)  She has 1 Sibling—her Older Brother, Erik C. Espensen.  (It’s unclear how old Erik is or whether he’s adopted like Tiffany.)  Erik lives in West Hollywood, CA, and works as a real estate agent. (See Also.)  He and Tiffany seem to be quite close.
As for Tiffany’s Parents...  They are both licensed realtors.  Also, it seems that they own and manage quite a few properties, mostly in Riverside County, CA.  Dan is a Financial Advisor, as well.  They’re very busy!
As for where they’re from...  It’s sort of unclear.  The Espensens seems to run the financial advising and property management businesses from Desert Hot Springs, Riverside County, CA.  On Facebook, Erik lists nearby Palm Springs, CA as his “hometown.”  However, they have ties outside of Palm Springs, as well...  Two charter schools in Julian, CA—a town just outside of San Diego—reportedly oversaw Tiffany’s homeschool curriculum.  But...  On IMDB, Tiffany says she lives in Los Angeles—not San Diego or Palm Springs.  (Plus, IG Pics often place her in iconic Los Angeles locations, such as Griffith Park, Staples Center, and Dodger Stadium.  Plus, Disneyland / California Adventure, which are technically in nearby Orange County, but are decidedly not in San Diego.)  So, yeah...  They’re from Southern California.  Somewhere.  Seems they may have moved around some, or maybe live live in Riverside County, while self–describing as Angelenos.  Very possible.
Tumblr media
Overall Impression / Comments
Overall, Tiffany appears to be more ‘wordly’ than some of the Bates Spouses.  However, she’s also very young, and there’s a fairly large age gap.  (Lawson is 28, 29 in July; Tiffany just turned 22.)  I’m very interested to see what happens with Tiffany’s career, if she and Lawson marry...  Will he move to Los Angeles?  Will she keep acting?  Will she keep acting if they have children?
It’s an interesting pairing.  I’m interested to see this unfold.
