What on earth is going on in the Star Trek fandom today, it's like my dash exploded
lol 28 years ago today, the Star Trek Voyager episode "Threshold" aired. The premise of the episode was that humans cannot travel at or faster than warp 10, because if they do, they would be traveling at "infinite velocity" and would exist in all points of space time simultaneously. Tom Paris found a way to travel at this speed, and doing so accidentally hyper-evolved him and his captain (Janeway) into giant salamanders, whereupon they immediately reproduced and created 3 baby salamanders. They were then turned back into normal humans, and forced to leave their salamander babies on the planet they had escaped to.
The episode was long held as the worst star trek episode. Not just the worst Star Trek Voyager episode, but the worst episode, period, because it was extremely weird and people turning into salamanders greatly annoyed a lot of people who don't know what fun is. Tumblr, having discovered this episode like excavating an exciting fossil, has taken a shine to this episode and many people now produce art and memes and eat pepperoni pizza in celebration of its air date, mostly to annoy the episode's creator, as in a very Arthur Conan Doyle way, he hates this episode and wants it de-canonized.
Anyway, happy Threshold Day!

I know the holidays can be stressful, so this Threshold Day try to keep in mind what really matters. It's not about the gifts or the shopping, it's about breaking the warp barrier. Threshold Day is meant to be a time of transformation (into a lizard), love (for your captain/lizard wife), and spending time with your family (of lizard babies) before you abandon them on a planet forever and never think about them again.
Happy Threshold Day everyone, and don't forget to leave milk and cookies out for Tom Paris as he travels at warp 10 and exists simultaneously at every point in the universe!

Y'all holy shit
This might already be common knowledge and only news to me as a recent trekkie but before the day is over in most time zones, well...
I had assumed that all the lizards were puppets and the babies might be (couldn't find anything that would indicate otherwise) but. Salamander Janeway and Paris were played by human beings in costumes.
Susan Rossitto and Cindy Sorensen are the ones who played the Threshold lizards.
Both of them went uncredited and Susan Rossitto also passed away in 2013, but here are pictures of them:

i really want to applaud the Voyager community for it's artistic capabilities of endlessly drawing, crocheting, and otherwise artistically rendering salamanders and salamander babies from the same three shitty too-dark 90s screencaps. y'all are the realest.

Monday, January 29.
Salamander posting only
This Monday, January 29, we celebrate Threshold Day and commemorate one of the very worst episodes of television ever produced. Or perhaps one of the best, depending on your take on things. Most importantly, however, we celebrate the salamander and its bountiful offspring.

Tom Paris saying he remembers his dad saying crying is a sign of weakness and then proceeding to say that he remembers crying in his room was too emotionally devastating for an episode about going too fast and turning into a salamander

If the Star Trek Picard spin-off happens, I think it would be utter cowardice not to have at least one episode revolve around three mysterious semi-amphibious antagonists who eventually reveal themselves to be the partially de-evolved children of Paris and Janeway having crossed the galaxy to seek revenge
