Enchanté

We've someone we would like you to meet. Her name is Jean Deaux, and she does a lot. And when we say a lot, we mean a lot: she is a Chicago-based artist, musician, and filmmaker, spanning genres and disciplines, and a trendsetter in the Black queer community. She even has a Tumblr, as luck would have it, which you can find at @thedeauxdiaries. We think you'll get on just great. 

She released the video for "Roll With Me" today. It comes from her new EP, Nowhere Fast, a record that explores themes of fears of intimacy, stagnation and returning, and chasing your dreams.

At this point, we would like to write something clever about themes of intimacy and its fears, stagnation and returning, and chasing your dreams. But why would we do that when we can leave it to Jean Deaux herself?

Nowhere Fast is out now. If you're fearing intimacy, feeling stagnant and getting back to yourself, or pursuing your dreams, this is a record for all y'all. It's a record that shows, despite these challenges, you can always create something from it.

I haven't really made any art in a while and now I kind of feel like maybe I should do something, but everyone is saying that the last week of the year is for doing nothing, but I've already been doing nothing.

Disorganized (aka fearful-avoidant) attachment style is overanalyzing/overcorrecting when you think your partner might be pulling away from you, but then pulling away from them when they draw close to you.

It is both craving AND fearing intimacy so deeply that you grip people tight in your hands lest they leave you, but keep them at an arms length lest they love you.

Tuesday, April 9.

Turn around, bright eyes.

Every now and then we fall apart. But every now and then we fall apart for good, and very specific, reason. That reason is the momentary disappearance of the sun as it disappears behind the moon. This magnificent and mystical phenomenon is otherwise known as the total solar eclipse.    They are also exceptionally rare, though they really are a case of quality over quantity. As luck would have it, there was such an event just yesterday across Mexico, the US, and Canada. Yesterday, it was that very every now and then. And it was yesterday, wearing our CE and ISO-Certified Eclipse Glasses, that the sun disappeared behind the moon. And it was at that moment that we fell apart, naturally.

On Monday, April 8, 2024, there’ll be a total solar eclipse – and it’ll be the last one to cross North America for 20 years. Make sure you’re tuned in to our live broadcast for this exciting event: there’ll be views from along the path of totality, special guests, and plenty of science.

Idk something about people from out of town coming to see the eclipse and everyone coming outside and looking up and pointing at the shadows and updating each other on how much time there is until totality and sharing glasses and warning strangers to not look at the sun without them. I like when you get a minute to just be people
