For as long as the girl could remember, She’d been collecting pearls from whenever she cried at count Cortez’s house, She found out that whenever she’d cry either it was full on sobbing or just crying from laughter. Her tears would turn from liquid to solid pearls.

At first she wouldn’t bother picking them up but gave it a thought after a while, But when a certain incident happened she decided she’d collect the pearls and run away when the girl got older.

To say that she collected a lot was an understatement, It was a lot and I mean A lot a lot a lot, She could go live in a deserted country and never be found again with the amount of pearls she had!.

She could sell her identity, buy a huge house with a garden, buy titles with the pearls she had.

But now?, She scrapped her plan fully as she slowly realized she no longer had to live with dread or fear, She didn’t have to live thinking she’d get sold off or get hit.

She could finally live free from everything she worried about.

The pink haired girl kept on wondering what she was supposed to do with the pearls, She’d kept them with her. Of course she could still do her plan or just keep them as memory’s. But she had other thoughts she wanted to show her gratitude to her now family!.

For everything they had done to her sense the beginning in her eyes they were angels, And with New Years slowly approaching. She thought about making necklaces and bracelets.

it wouldn’t be hard sense she had nothing to do, So she started , For her family she’d paint them the colors of their hair or eyes, For her sister she painted some of the pearls pink but kept some white, For Tristan it was the same as aria but black instead of pink, Tristan got yellow blue and normal pearls.

Lloyd got black and white, Sabina got black and red.

She’d make them bracelets and necklaces, Hell she even made some for all the servants, Cooks, Knights, And even the wizards!.

The day before New Years the girl went around handing the bracelets and necklaces, Most and maybe even all the maids were brought to tears hugging and thanking the little girl.

“Here!” Shouted the girl to the head maid standing on her toes handing the maid the pearl necklace, “oh my lady!, you didn’t need to” She replied covering her mouth with hand nearly crying.

“But I wanted too, take it” the girl pleaded gifting her the bracelet before the maid hugged her body crying and thanking her.

“Weird..” She thought, Everyone she’d given was giving her this reaction, Like it was planned but she hadn’t told anyone she was making them she’d even hid them and made them at night when everyone was asleep.

But the girl didn’t think of it anymore and continued her journey, Not knowing that everyone knew that those pearls were her tears, Her next designation was the wizards toward where Carlin was.

“Carlinnn” the girl shouted as she heard a groan from the familiar voice “what is it?” He questioned opening the door, “here!” She exclaimed handing him the bracelet, “for you happy New Years” She placed it in his hand.

he grabbed it and inspected it before realizing what the pearls were made of, His heart was hurt just a little.

“Do you like it?” She chirped happily, “Y-yeah, thank you” he smiled and hugged her, “YAYYY” she shouted running down to go gift the others.

Next destination, The knights quarter’s, She’d counted many times how many knights there were so that she wouldn’t hurt anyones feelings.

When arriving one of the knights noticed and yelled “Everyone y/n came” At the name all of them stopped and began surrounding the girl.

“What brings you here? Little miss”, “Do you want to play with us?”, They all kept on questioning her before she shushed them and began giving out the items, “here, here, here, andddd here” she said before running off happily.

“Wait miss!” Yelled one of the knights before grabbing her body and picking her up, “let me go” she demanded “you forgot to give the captain” he stated.

“O-oh” she replied slightly embarrassed, The captain was waiting for her to give him one “You know I’m really hurt” he said one hand over his heart acting out like he got betrayed.

“I’m really sorry” she apologized giving him a necklace, “We’ll all treasure it with outer entire body’s isn’t that right?!” He asked yelling at the others “Yes Sir” they shouted.

“Can you put me down?” The girl asked, “Ah sorry” he apologized, “it’s okay bye bye now” she ran behind not noticing how some of the knights were full on sobbing at the present.

Now she gave the butler, head maid, servants, Wizard, Knights, Now the only people that were left were her sister, Lloyd Vincent, Sabina and Tristan.

She was slightly nervous hoping they wouldn’t reject her, But nonetheless she proceeded, First it was her sister, but she had no idea where she was so she asked,“Excuse me do you know where my sister is?” She questioned one of the maids.

“Oh I’m pretty sure the miss is in The young masters room” oh now she didn’t expect that, “Okay, thank you” she exclaimed hesitant when walking to Lloyds room.

Now in front of the boys room, She knocked on the door, Her heart beating so fast she was sure she was going to die anytime between now and in a few seconds.

The door slowly opened revealing Aria, “thank you” she thought before giving Aria her and Lloyd’s gift, “For you!” She exclaimed, Aria smiled slightly before hugging her sister and whispering “why don’t you give Lloyd his by yourself” she questioned before pulling away from the hug.

The girl shakes her head rapidly saying no, But Aria kept on budging till she gave in,She pulled her sister in the room. Lloyd looked quite surprised but didn’t say anything.

She quickly ran giving him his gift with hesitation, Before running out, As she was running Aria starred at the necklace realizing what they were she quickly felt guilty and concerned, Not about Lloyd but the realization of how often her little sister would cry, Made her angry.

Now It was Vincent’s turn, Y/n hadn’t interacted with Vincent much but whenever she did he would read her stories, Which was more than enough for her to like him, She quickly got done with Vincent, the way he smiled looked as if he was hurt but she didn’t pay any mind to it.

Now was Tristan and Sabina’s turn!, First was Sabina, y/n could avoid the guards at her room easily so she ran to her room, And entered.

“Y/n” the older lady smiled, “ I have a gift for you” she smiled, running towards her, “Necklace” she handed her the item, Sabina was no idiot when it came to the girl in front her, She knew that the pearls were originally tears turned into pearls.

“Tell me where did you get the pearls?” She questioned bringing the child closer to her, “Ummm, Somewhere” she stated, “where is that somewhere?” She smiled. “Um” the girl got more nervous, “ I need to go give Tristan!” She yelled before jumping off the bed and running away, Sabina starred at the now closed door knowing full well well you went out to avoid her question.

Now running towards Tristan’s office, He was the only person left who didn’t get the bracelet, So after passing threw a long hallway, She finally arrived in front the door and knocked, “Come in” someone yelled.

Upon opening the door the only people there where Tristan and his assistant, “I have a gift for you!” She responded walking towards him handing the gift. “Where did you get it?” He asked “I made it!,do you like it?” She smiled, He observed the gift before picking her up, “Why wouldn’t I?, I like everything you make” he continued starring at the bracelet, Shifting his gaze between the girl and the bracelet.

Like Sabina he wasn’t stupid he knew that those pearls were made from liquid, That liquid being tears, “Who did you give these too?” He touched the bracelet feeling slightly guilty.

“Everyone!” She smiled, “Everyone?” He placed the bracelet on his desk, “Yea! Everyone”, The man was sure you knew how these pearls would become pearls.

“You shouldn’t cry so much” He muttered low but loud enough for her to hear, The shock on her face made him smile, “How did you know?” She asked refusing to look at him.

“That is none of your concern”, Count Cortez was dead, A long time ago, If he wasn’t he would’ve murdered him all over again, But he couldn’t the house you used to call home no longer existed.

“Like I said you shouldn’t cry so much” dont cry, that’s what it seemed like he was saying, “You no longer have a reason to live in fear”, “Live happily, as long as your my daughter”, Daughter?, “No one will dare to touch you”.

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone! 💙❤

Of course, I had to do something Jameward for the occasion. Even though this meme is literally called "Understand my Ship in 5 Minutes", I still wanted to include some commentary/headcanons because I've been DYING to talk about them forever. So if you're interested, read on under the cut!

(Also, please note that the interpretation of the characters depicted here is specifically for my AU, TTTE: Sudrian Boys)

NAMES: For the sake of making sure their names fit in the boxes, I used the last names they picked for themselves before they got married. When they do eventually get legally married, they'll combine their last names together (a conclusion they got to after much bickering). So respectively, they will be James and Edward Hughes-Pettigrew.

GENDER + SEXUALITY:

James is GAY. GAY GAY HOMOSEXUAL GAY. Sorry not sorry, but there is not a woman-liker bone in his body.

Edward, on the other hand is bi. Part of me thinks he tends to prefer the company of men, but maybe that's just because there's significantly more male engines on Sodor. Also he is nonbinary. This will be something I explore later. But to summarize, Edward never felt entirely male in the strict sense that humans define it. However, he felt the need to be the consistent, steady, "old reliable" his peers saw him as, so he never questioned what others chose to call him. This changed when "The Great Shift" happened (aka, the engines learning to shift into a human-like form). Edward saw an opportunity to experiment with his presentation, and so he had a brief stint where he tried going in the opposite direction, presenting as a woman named Alice. As fun as it was, however, he found that it didn't feel quite right either. To him, "Edward" was where he felt most at home. He's not a man or a woman, he is just "Edward". Edward uses "he/they" pronouns because those feel the most neutral to them.

HORNY LEVEL: I will not be elaborating.

AWKWARDNESS LEVEL: I don't think Edward and James ever really had an "awkward phase". Before they got together, they always felt comfortable with each other as close friends would. They never really had that thing of "oh I want to tell him I like him but I also don't want him to know". Edward always knew he liked James, he just didn't say anything because he didn't think James was interested. And once James admitted to himself that he liked Edward, he confessed and it was all smooth sailing from there. To be honest, not much changed when they moved from "close friends" to "boyfriends". They still act like close friends, just with added kissing privileges.

JEALOUSY LEVEL: At the point where they're at in their relationship right now, both James and Edward are pretty secure, so it's rare for either of them to act jealous.

From Edward's perspective, he knows that James is young (relatively speaking) and very attractive, so it's hardly surprising to see that other people would try to flirt with him. There's a small pang of jealousy that comes from him thinking James would have preferred someone younger or stronger, but that quickly goes away once he sees James return to being on his arm and very proudly proclaiming he's already spoken for.

From James's perspective, he thinks Edward is the real catch between the two of them. Plus, it's not often that other people would try to shoot their shot with the silver fox. So when other people do try to get a little too close for comfort, James would certainly be stewing in jealousy. If the feeling gets to a certain point, he'd probably make himself known. But once they get home, the situation gets explained out, and they're cuddling on the couch with a blanket and some tea, James finds he can let go of the jealous feeling relatively quickly.

BIG SPOON/LITTLE SPOON: Majority of the time, James is the little spoon. He likes to be held and Edward LOVES holding him. James's favorite thing is when Edward keeps their hand on his chest. But occasionally, they do switch places, especially if Edward has a particularly hard day. Sometimes Old Iron wants to be cuddled too.

LENDS/BORROWS CLOTHES: Both of them tend to steal borrow clothes from each other, but under different circumstances.

At home, it's relatively commonplace to see Edward walking around in one of James's pants, shirts, or even his prized red coat. But more often than not, these are cases of Edward just picking them up of his own accord and James just letting him have it.

Outside, it's James who more actively does the borrowing and Edward who does the lending. James likes to go out ✨IN STYLE✨ without taking into consideration pesky things like the weather. So when James (inevitably) gets cold at night, Edward is the one to lend him his jacket.

PET NAMES: They don't use pet names often, but they do use some of the more basic ones on occasion. For James, Edward would sometimes call him "Jamie", "darling", "dear", or his personal favorite, "love". James usually calls Edward by his full name because Edward prefers it, but sometimes he might slip in an "Eddie", "baby", or a "kitten" in there just to make the old man flustered.

AFFECTION THROUGH WORDS/ACTIONS: This one might seem paradoxical, but let me explain.

James is more receptive to affection through words because he's used to being dismissed. In his worst moments, he can be pretty down on himself as his insecurities eat away at him. At times like these, Edward knows exactly what to say to help James pick himself back up again. It's especially meaningful because Edward absolutely means everything he says. He's not the type to lie just to make James feel better. He's honest and straightforward. If James did something wrong that needs calling out, Edward will tell him (politely of course). So when Edward tells James that he's wonderful or that he's a "really splendid engine", he 100% means it. And you can tell from just the look in his eyes that Edward loves his red boyfriend SO DAMN MUCH.

Conversely, Edward is more receptive to affection through actions. Edward is always the one out caring for everyone else and tends to forget to care for himself too. But at the same time, he's very much the type to never ask for help (even if he needs it). James knows this, so he goes the extra mile to help take some of the load off. If Edward is especially tired one day, James will step up and do Edward's share of the housekeeping without being asked. He'll volunteer to go supervise Bill and Ben so that Edward can take a day off. He'll fix up a warm bath for Edward after a hard day. Anything to make sure Edward is taken care of, James will do it. Not only that, but James is also the one planning most of their dates. ;)

CONFESSING:

Edward NEVER had any plans to confess to James. Romantic relationships are uncommon amongst engines since there's no real use for them. Plus, he didn't think James would be interested in a plain old iron like himself (as he views himself anyway). So Edward was just content to just feel his feelings and never act on them.

James, on the other hand, took several years to both realize and accept that he was in love with Edward. But once he got to that point, he confessed fairly quickly. Sure, there was a normal amount of hesitation and worry that Edward might not feel the same. But he was about 90% sure that Edward loved him back so he didn't end up worrying that much leading up to the confession.

CAN'T DRIVE LOL: Even as engines, they can't drive themselves. Plus, they know trains are the superior way to travel. So if they ever need to go somewhere while shifted into humans, they just catch one of their friends' trains. I don't think they've ever even sat in a car before.

COOKING: Edward loves to cook (especially baking). It was one of the first hobbies he picked up after learning how to shift and he would often make meals to share for the entire Steam Team. James, on the other hand, can cook, but not nearly as well as Edward. He doesn't know as many dishes as Edward. Even the ones they both know, James's, for some reason, aren't as good. The only time James would ever take over cooking is if Edward is feeling too exhausted to do so. There's a mutual acknowledgement between them (and also the rest of the Steam Team) that Edward is the superior chef (and he also enjoys it more). So if he can help it, James prefers to leave the cooking to Edward.

PDA: James absolutely LOVES PDA. He will take literally every opportunity he can to dote on Edward in public so that the entire island knows that they're together, much to Edward's embarrassment. Edward secretly loves the PDA too, and he appreciates how proud James is to be his boyfriend (and later husband). But Edward would never admit it. He tries really hard to at least appear decent in public. That said, when the opportunity arises, Edward does like getting to flip the script and fluster James in front of onlookers.

OVERPROTECTIVE/CHILL GOING: Both are more than reasonably protective over each other, but for different reasons and under different circumstances.

James gets into accidents relatively often, usually as the result of his own dumbassery. So Edward has gotten to a point where he's not too concerned if James winds up in an accident again. He'll still worry a little and warn James to be more careful next time, but Edward knows after a trip to the Steamworks that his boyfriend will be good as new again.

It's when they're shifted into humans when Edward becomes more protective of James.

Because of the way James looks, it's unfortunately not uncommon for James to get harassed while shifted as a human. When this happens, Edward goes into full protective mode to make sure his beloved stays safe. Thankfully, it doesn't happen too often. But it does happen often enough that Edward feels like he has to keep close watch of James while they're traveling after nightfall.

James, on the other hand, always has a bit of worry for Edward at the back of his mind. He knows Edward is capable of handling himself, but he also knows that Edward is old and doesn't recover from accidents as quickly or easily as he does. He worries that if the damage is too great, Edward could be scrapped. So if Edward were to end up in any sort of accident, James would go ballistic. He's puffing over right away to make sure his beloved is okay and may or may not have a fierce word with whoever caused the accident. The same thing goes when they are in human form. If Edward were to end up in some sort of fight, James would put himself in harms way to make sure Edward is protected (even though in human form, Edward is actually physically stronger than James).

RELATIONSHIP EXPERIENCE: Neither of them had any relationship experience before each other, they were each other's firsts. You can maybe argue that Edward has slightly more experience because he's had crushes on other people in the past, but fleeting attraction that is never pursued could hardly count for true experience. Their whole relationship is something that James and Edward are navigating together. It's new and at times a little scary, but there's nobody else James and Edward would rather be with than each other.

She didn't think he noticed her, she wasn't a cheerleader or in the school band, in fact she didn't draw that much attention to herself.

Y/n worked on the newspaper with Nancy who was her closest friend in school along with Freddie and liked to keep to herself, she wasn't confident enough to admit her crush to Eddie Munson in person.

However with Autumn's arrival and Halloween very, very soon she planned to tell him anonymously.

The school was doing an event similar to Valentine's day but for Halloween where students sent anonymous cards- love notes with a variety of Halloween puns, phrases and cute sayings.

She had already picked her one for Eddie it was pumpkin orange coloured and had bats on it similar to the ones on his arm with tiny love hearts in between each one.

🦇 I'm Batty For You 🦇 the inscription insode of the card reads and she wrote a small message for him too.

Nerves fill her stomach. As it's getting closer to the cards being handed out at lunch. No one knew she was sending the card except Nancy and it was nerve wracking.

The students sending the cards finally came in looking bored and doling out the cards in a fast manner.

She saw Eddie take his looking at it in disbelief then his features softened and he smiled tracing over the little bats.

Heart racing she makes an excuse to Nancy and moves closer to the Hellfire Club table to see what's being said. Dustin waves at her and she waves back pressing a finger to her lips in a shushing motion.

"Dude? Who do you think sent it!". Mike asks trying to peer over at it as Eddie snatches it away annoyed.

Gareth smirks smugly.

"Bet we know who he wished sent it... His dream girl Chrissy". He teases and y/n stops still her heart slowly tearing.

Chrissy. Of course, he would want it to be Chrissy. The pretty, popular queen of Hawkins high.

Chrissy was his dream girl and he would be so disappointed knowing that y/n had sent it instead.

Hiding her tears she rushes out of the cafeteria just as one of the students delivering the notes drops one down on where her usual seat is with Nancy...

Eddie scowls listening to Jeff and Gareth teasing him about Chrissy.

"Shut up dude, the crush was in middle school, I'm not interested in her anymore. I like someone else".

For some reason, the news shocks the others and he rolls his eyes. Heart warming as he reads the words written.

He wants it so badly to be y/n because he had written one for her too. Eddie was never one to get sucked into cheesy shit like this but it was Halloween, hopefully, his Final senior year and he had to tell y/n how she felt.

She was beautiful, so pretty and kind, sweet. He always noticed her and adored her beautiful smile, pretty eyes and endless kindness.

Never once in their interactions though very brief did she ever treat him like a freak. So yeah, his cynical heart softened in her presence and he fell for her.

Come to think of it where was she? Wasn't she just at her lunch table with Nancy and the other students who worked on the newspaper?

The note he sent her hasn't been touched and he frowns in disappointment. She hadn't seen it. Where was she?

Dustin followed his gaze.

"Oh, y/n came to talk to us but I think something spooked her Eddie, she left when those two mentioned Chrissy".

Eddie's heart sinks. Did she hear what those dumbass friends of his said? Jesus H Christ, he glares at them and Gareth gets a look of dawning realisation on his features.

"Oh. You like y/n".

"Yeah, no fucking shit Sherlock". He gets up rushing to the table with Nancy, Fred and a few others and snatches the card before they can say anything as he rushes out to find her.

She heads deep into the woods. It was quiet and peaceful here which meant she could cry in peace here and let out all her emotions.

Of course, Eddie liked Chrissy she was so stupid.

Suddenly she's brought out of her reverie by Eddie himself crashing through the trees and skidding to a stop beside her catching himself on the wooden bench.

"Eddie?". He's clutching her note in his hands and smiles at her.

"Hey, sweetheart, been running around looking for you. Wanted to ask you something".

Shit, did he figure out the card was from her and was here to turn her down gently.

"Eddie, look I know you like Chrissy and don't feel the same, Chrissy is your dream girl and it's fine I..." He kneels down in front of her and fishes another note from his jeans.

"Open it. It's for you princess". Heart racing she takes it and opens the envelope revealing a light pink card with a cute little ghost on it.

Boo! I have a crush on you 👻

Oh my god oh my god she feels her breath hitch and happiness fills her.

She reads the words inside.

Hey princess, usually I don't care for stuff like this but it's Halloween themed and that's fucking metal right?

I've been falling for you for a while now sweetheart and I want you to be mine.

Beaming she looks up at Eddie who strokes her cheek.

Feeling a whole lot happier she leans forward at the same time he does and they kiss.

It's magic and they both come apart with goofy grins on their faces.

"Yes, I'll be yours, Eddie". He presses a kiss to her forehead and together they head back to the school hands entwined.
