Hogwarts Houses for the Union Gang + Longstreet??
ohhh my GOD what a fucking GOOD idea...I’m so bad with these, I feel like I don’t know the Hogwarts houses...so I’m gonna guess some BUT if anyone else has input, please let me know!
So for the Union Gang™ I’m gonna include Grant, Sherman, Sheridan, Thomas, anddd Meade (and I appreciate the +1 of Longstreet lol)
Grant seems like he could fit into Hufflepuff from my quick reading of some of the traits of a Hufflepuff student. The website mentions “valuing hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play”. The hard-work seems perfectly Grant, even when he was not doing great in life, he was hard working trying to feed his family, and I mean of course during the war he was hard-working, along with his presidency (not that it all went well but hey still working!) You may be like “Ali, patient for Grant? Really?” and I would say yes! Grant was a patient guy, even tho he always looking to move quickly on campaigns. I mean, you go through 2 sieges and see how patient you can be (though he wasn’t always patient, I think it drove him nuts sometimes lol). Loyalty is one of Grant’s biggest traits (nottt always something that worked out for him!) So yeah...I think Hufflepuff sounds about right
Sherman is...this one if fucking hard, cause I feel like Sherman could be a combo of 2 or 3 houses. I feel like Sherman would either be a Gryffindor or a Ravenclaw, but I can’t really decide which one he would really fit into. This one is causing me a headache, I’ve been thinking about it for 10 minutes tops lol. What do you think??
Sheridan seems like a lock choice for Gryffindor. On the wiki for Harry Potter, they say that “The Gryffindor house emphasizes the traits of courage as well as daring, nerve, and chivalry." They also people tending to be “short-tempered”, so just basing it off those traits, while chivalry mayy be a little suspect for Sheridan (I mean, he’s was polite to you if he liked you but if he didn’t lol GOOD LUCK) I feel like that just...matches up with him.
Thomas is another one I think works for Hufflepuff! I feel like Thomas and Grant are sort of cut from the same cloth personality-wise (even though, while I think they respected each other, they never really saw eye to eye) but I mean Thomas is loyal (he was loyal to the Union! His family in VA never really forgave him for that), he’s extremely patient (one of the things that he and Grant kinda butt heads about), hard-working, all that jazz. I think this just works for him.
Meade is kinda a tricky one but I feel like, with his engineering background, Ravenclaw would be a good fit for him. He’s a smart dude, my guy built lighthouses in his time between the Mexican-American War and the Civil War! (I actually think one of them in NJ still stands). He had an engineer's eye for the topography of the ground. I think the wiki mentions them having “wit” which, though Meade was called a snapping turtle by some, I have read that he had pretty dry humor about him with close friends. So I feel like that would work!
Longstreet is another one where I’m caught between two houses but I thinkkk I’m going to side with Slytherian because I feel like...I feel like he could be very goa-oriented and was cunning at points to try to climb up the ladder. I’m thinking of when he went out West to serve with the Army of Tennesse and how he and some other generals really wanted to boot Bragg from the commander role. I’m not 100% sold on that, I could kinddaaa see him as a Hufflepuff too but hey...what can you do

Gettysburg National Military Park (No. 8)
The State of Georgia monument is southwest of Gettysburg on Warfield Ridge. The monument is near the location where General Semmes’ Georgia Brigade began its attack toward the Wheatfield on July 2nd.
During the centennial of the Civil War in 1961 Georgia erected identical statues on the battlefields of Gettysburg and Antietam honoring her Confederate veterans. They were dedicated in September of that year. Sculptor Harry Sellers created the monument. Marietta Memorials fabricated it. It is composed of Georgia blue granite standing 15 1/2 feet high, with the state seal of Georgia on the front and back.
Georgia provided over 13,000 men to the Army of Northern Virginia at Gettysburg. Georgia regiments were in all three Army Corps and in Stuart’s Cavalry Division. The Army’s second in command, James Longstreet, was from Georgia. Over 2,700 Georgians became casualties in the battle. This was the third largest contingent and the third highest casualties of the Confederate states in the battle.

Thought I'd share a few reviews that people have written about pop culture magic systems. These aren't authors. These are just people practicing pop culture magic who've got a ton of value out of the new book. Kitty S says, In this new book, Taylor Ellwood takes an ever expanding approach to the topics of Pop Culture Magic. He shares his wealth of knowledge in friendly, accessible language, so that even beginners can get something out of it. In Pop Culture Magic Systems, Taylor teaches the reader how to create their own system of magic using their favorite pop culture. From Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to Harry Potter, he uses well known pop culture stories as examples of how you can turn then into working systems of magic. Everything in this book can be applied to more traditional forms of magic as well. He stresses using research and spirit working to determine which elements of a pop culture can be used effectively, including developing personal correspondences. Such things are important for any magical system. He does give homework, but if you're serious about building your magical practice, they become invaluable questions to answer, while also giving you a written record to go back to when you want to review your magical journey. You may also come across a few concepts that you aren't familiar with, however Taylor explains them well, and includes them in later passages that can give greater context. Overall this book is a valuable resource and an enjoyable read that will maintain its value well after you've finished it. Angela Longstreet says, Certainly not afraid to be blunt, Taylor’s writing reflects a casual conversation with the reader and promotes a feeling of simply talking with a friend over everyday events. He goes on to discuss the hows, the whys and the whats of pop culture and how to set up a system that will work for sole practitioners and group ritual making. All throughout the book he explains that this is a new ‘thing’ and that tradition does not allot a plethora of worldwide super secret hidden grimoires of information, however, there is a large array of inner lore, of stories, of plot heaped upon you by the authors and filmmakers and to use it. There is no fluff and I found myself hearing various theme songs playing in my head with the references given and I simply had to put the book down and make lists of the potential series, authors and films that I need to get started with. By offering homework, tips and tricks and suggestions on where to proceed, I would say that this book is a new take on the classic ‘blue’ book but with the flavor of so many possibilities to create rather than emulate your own personal magics. You will get ‘mind blown’ with the ideals of working with your favorite ‘it’s just fiction’ characters and I do recommend that you take this book chapter by chapter to get the full affect. Dare to be different and start your rebellion by picking up this book. Tiffany Rose shares, This book is exactly what I've been looking for, short, sweet, and to the point on how to create systems in magick using pop culture (and turning pop culture into magick.) I appreciate there wasn't a bunch of added fluff just for the sake of making the book longer. Instead, I got precisely the kind of information that I can apply to any pop culture system. I do wish there was a more in-depth chapter on how to incorporate magick into your own pop culture creations, but I don't know how much use most people would get out of information like that. With that said - I think the information provided will help me create and I can dig deeper using the resources guide. I loved the essays in the back as well, a few more points on how to work with systems, and some creative ideas to help me down my pop culture magickal path. If you haven't picked up Pop Culture Magic Systems yet you can order it from the publisher (and I'll autograph it) or you can order it from Amazon, or your local bookstore (If they don't have it tell, tell them to order it).

Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House Season 1, Episode 2: “Open Casket” Directed & Written by Mike Flanagan
* For a recap & review of the premiere, “Steven Sees a Ghost” – click here * For a recap & review of the next episode, “Touch” – click here Shirley (Elizabeth Reaser) wakes up whispering “Nelly‘s in the Red Room” to herself, as her partner Kevin (Anthony Ruivivar) wonders why she’s up. We cut back to her talking to the little boy at the funeral home who saw his grandma despite the fact she’s dead. The kid doesn’t want to see her in her “open castle” for the funeral. Shirley does well by rationalising the things he saw, probably from having to do that over the years for Nell (Victoria Pedretti). She goes on telling the kid about the process of preparing a body for viewing. She says grandma will look “just like she‘s supposed to.” Back in the day, young Shirley (Lulu Wilson) watched her mother Olivia (Carla Gugino) drawing architectural plans for their “forever house” they’ll build and move into once they’re done flipping real estate. Mom related a home to a body— its walls are “like bones,” the pipes “are veins,” and so on. What exactly happens then when a house – a.k.a the body – gets ill? Hugh (Henry Thomas) was busy asking Mr. Dudley (Robert Longstreet) more about the house, particularly the red door upstairs we saw in the 1st episode, the one that refuses to be unlocked. Shirley wandered out to the graveyard in the woods, where all the old Hill family were buried long ago. Nearby is a shed, where Shirley heard the sounds of newborn kittens. She also stumbled onto a huge wasp nest, looking like a face hidden in the dark. Mr. Dudley breaks it down and they find the nest was built around an old Halloween mask. In present day, Shirley’s boy is pissed off about his Halloween mask. He wanted to be Daredevil, and she bought him a blank mask he could decorate. The past is ever present in Shirley’s life, down to the forever house model she keeps in her office. She and Kevin have a relatively normal life compared to some of the Crain siblings, yet she’s never far from being haunted herself. Things for the Crain-Harris family aren’t as perfect as they seemed. Shirley finds her husband’s chequebook, discovering a separate bank account she never knew existed. Jump back six years. Shirley and Steven (Michael Juisman) were trying to take care of their brother Luke (Oliver Jackson-Cohen(. They were looking to put him in rehab. They found out it was incredibly expensive without insurance. Nevertheless, she was determined to help him, and put herself in a bad financial place to pay for Luke’s stay in a facility. Sadly, we know this wasn’t his last stint in rehab. How does an addict escape the past when their past is full of ghosts? Further back in the past, the kids were hearing dogs Mr. Dudley swore didn’t live on the property anywhere. Shirley got blamed by her sister for banging on the walls, though she swore it wasn’t her. They both heard the noises together, like someone was pounding on the wall. Dad blames it on “hot water pipes” – similar to the explanation(s) for the Enfield Poltergeist, which was the basis for The Conjuring 2 – before his face turns into a drooping mask. Shirley wakes from a nightmare. She receives a call from Steven to tell her Nell died. She doesn’t believe it at first, until her brother explains she killed herself. He tries telling Shirley about seeing her in his apartment, but can’t bring himself to speak those words. The mystery brings up the family’s tragic past and she’s angry with their father Hugh (Timothy Hutton): “He can‘t just not tell us what happened.” It’s like their mother’s death all over again. As a girl, Shirley had to deal with one of her kittens dying under her care. Mom and dad helped her give the animal a funeral. Dad told her about giving “a eulogy,” and this was like the beginning of her interest in the industry of death, leading her to an eventual career as a funeral director. Her mother said when people die we “turn into stories.” Young Shirley gives a sweet speech about the kitty. Then she thought it was still alive, its mouth began moving, only to reveal a bug crawling from its throat. In the aftermath of Nell’s death, Shirley wants to host her funeral, which both Theo (Katie Siegel) and Kevin think is a bad idea. She won’t take no for an answer, neither is she overly concerned about her father being there for the service. On top of that, Luke’s already fled rehab, so nobody even knows where he is anymore after he saw Steven briefly. Kevin keeps trying to tell Shirley she shouldn’t work on her sister’s corpse, but she refuses to let a stranger do the cosmetics. Eventually it’s only her and the body of her sister, alone in the funeral home morgue. Shirley thinks back to years ago, when Nell wanted to help feed the kittens. The two young sisters found the rest of them dead, aside from one, whose eyes opened to reveal only the whites. Her parents took the cat from her, worried the animals were too sick for her to take care of herself. In reality, Hugh had to put the cat down. From her own parents having to teach her about death, which they actually lied to her about, Shirley’s having to do deal with her children and death in the present, as they’re both curious about what happened to Aunt Nell. She chooses to be as honest as she’s able.
More of the past. We get a glimpse of Nell’s wedding— she was getting married to Arthur (Jordane Christie). Shirley was doing her makeup, paralleled with the current scenes of her doing post-death makeup on her sister, as well. A juxtaposition of two entirely opposed moments. Moreover, we see Luke tried to be there, but he was stopped by Shirley, who didn’t want him there strung out and looking terrible. She gave him money before cutting him off for good, and she lied to the family, so they all thought he missed the wedding. In the present, Shirley thinks she sees a bug crawl from Nell’s mouth like the cat from her childhood, not fully realising the hold that house still has on them all. At her mom’s funeral, Shirley was helped by the funeral director to go look at Olivia. This was another catalyst for her eventual career as an adult. And the memory of her mother is a ghost haunting her at every turn. Before closing up the morgue, she sees Olivia, holding the box with the dead cat. But it’s just a daydream, right? This series is killer already in its first two episodes. Flanagan’s writing and directing together is magical. He weaves the past and present together as good as any other writer, taking us between the two Crain timelines with ease, and he draws out such impressive themes, great performances, and plenty of eerie imagery. “Touch” is next. The Haunting of Hill House – Season 1, Episode 2: “Open Casket” Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House Season 1, Episode 2: "Open Casket" Directed & Written…

American Horror Story Characters Ranked: From Cult Leaders to Coven Members & Everything in Between
Over the course of seven installments, American Horror Story has introduced the world to all manner of crazy characters, from witches to vampires to insane cult leaders and everything else in between. And we do mean, everything.
Now that American Horror Story: Cult has come to its conclusion (with nary a supernatural being in sight, to boot!), the time is right to revisit our roundup of all the main actors in Ryan Murphy‘s troupe who’ve performed multiple characters over the years and update our ranking. Yes, that means Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Cheyenne Jackson, Frances Conroy and, of course, Jessica Lange—as well as newbies to the list, Adina Porter and Chaz Bono—and their characters from Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke and Cult.
Which Paulson character reigns supreme? And which among Peters’ leads the pack? Read on to find out!
FX
American Horror Story Characters—Ranked!
Each year, the American Horror Story characters are dealt a new hand to play. They’ll go from angel of death to campy witch and murderer to coked out model as AHS reboots for another chapter. But let’s face it: some characters pop more than others. In honor of the AHS: Cult finale, we ranked each actor’s characters from best to worst. Click through to find out each actor’s best character now!
FX
Adina Porter’s No. 2. Lee Harris, AHS: Roanoke
Lee wasn’t the most likable person, but she was the last one standing when all was said and done.
FX
Adina Porter’s No. 1. Beverly Hope, AHS: Cult
Was there a more powerful woman in Cult than Beverly? Sure, she may have fallen under Kai’s sway, but she woke up when it mattered most.
FX
Chaz Bono’s No. 2. Lot Polk, AHS: Roanoke
Bono didn’t have a ton to do but look menacing as the reenactment’s version of the cannibalistic Polk.
FX
Chaz Bono’s No. 1. Gary Longstreet, AHS: Cult
As Kai’s most loyal servant, Gary never had too much to do, but he sure was willing to promote the cause no matter the cost. (Hint: His life.)
FX
Lily Rabe’s No. 5. Nora Montgomery, AHS: Murder House
A sad ghost with a penchant for baby taking, Nora is the weaker of Lily Rabe’s AHS characters.
FX
Lily Rabe’s No. 4. Shelby Miller, AHS: Roanoke
She was an adulterer, a murderer, and a Yogi. But worst of all about Shelby? She was a whiner.
FX
Lily Rabe’s No. 3. Aileen Wuornos, AHS: Hotel
Yes, Rabe played real-life serial killer (and inspiration for the movie Monster) Aileen Wuornos in an over-the-top performance in Hotel for one episode. Eat your heart out, Charlize Theron!
FX
Lily Rabe’s No. 2. Sister Mary Eunice, AHS: Asylum & Freak Show
Sister Mary Eunice was Rabe’s most developed character. She was sweet and innocent…until she was possessed. Lots of opportunity for Rabe to do a variety of emotions here.
FX
Lily Rabe’s No. 1. Misty Day, AHS: Coven
The shawls, the Stevie Nicks obsession…Misty was fun!
FX
Lady Gaga’s No. 2. Scathach (Reenactment), AHS: Roanoke
Not as much a character than a plot device, the fact that the most exciting thing about Scathach (the fact that she was the original Supreme in Coven) was revealed in a Ryan Murphy interview rather than onscreen isn’t good.
FX
Lady Gaga’s No. 1. The Countess, AHS: Hotel
Glam, sensuous, and with a pressing thirst for blood? That’s how we like our Gaga.
Michele K. Short/FX
Matt Bomer’s No. 2. Andy, AHS: Freak Show
Sure Matt Bomer showed some skin, but his gay rent boy character was offed straight away. No development there.
Frank Ockenfels/FX
Matt Bomer’s No. 1. Donovan, AHS: Hotel
He’s showing skin, his killer hair and an actual story arc? We’re sold.
FX
Cheyenne Jackson’s No. 3. Dr. Rudy Vincent, AHS: Cult
Nice twist revealing that Rudy was Kai and Winter’s older brother, but the character never really felt all that developed.
FX
Cheyenne Jackson’s No. 2. Will Drake, AHS: Hotel
Will was gay, but then he fell in love with the Countess? We love Gaga as much as everyone else, but that was wildly unbelievable—which is saying something, considering this franchise.
FX
Cheynne Jackon’s No. 1. Sidney Aaron James, AHS: Roanoke
Was Sidney a total sociopath? Sure. But was his unwavering devotion to keeping his reality show alive, blood moon and murderous ghosts, absolutely hysterical? You betcha.
FX
Emma Roberts No. 3. Serena Belinda, AHS: Cult
She was nasty to Beverly and she paid dearly for it.
Michele K. Short/FX
Emma Roberts’ No. 2. Maggie, AHS: Freak Show
A con artist who really didn’t do much to endear herself to viewers, compared to Emma Roberts’ Coven character, this is very easy to call.
Michele K. Short/FX
Emma Roberts’ No 1. Madison, AHS: Coven
The unapologetic attitude, the magic powers, the “Surprise, bitch” meme … need we go on as to why Madison Montgomery is Roberts’ tops AHS character?
FX
Wes Bentley’s No. 4. Ambrose White, AHS: Roanoke
If he’d only supported his mother, Tomasin would’ve never turned into the Butcher and no one in Roanoke would’ve been in the miserable mess they were in. Way to go, Ambrose.
Prashant Gupta/FX
Wes Bentley’s No. 3. John Lowe, AHS: Hotel
Ugh, there was nothing redeeming for Wes Bentley to do with him.
FX
Wes Bentley’s No. 2. Dylan, AHS: Roanoke
Dylan might’ve been the most sensible person on Roanoke. Naturally, he only lasted an episode. But his calm use of his Army skills to at least try and get the remaining survivors to safety was admirable. RIP Dylan.
Michele K. Short/FX
Wes Bentley’s No. 1. Edward Mordrake, AHS: Freak Show
Dude had a little head on the back of his own! He was creepy and helped usher Jessica Lange out of her last AHS.
FX
Finn Wittrock’s No. 3. Jether Polk, AHS: Roanoke
1. You don’t hire Finn Wittrock and hide his pretty face under all that inbred aesthetic. 2. If you do, you make him stick around for more than an episode.
FX
Finn Wittrock’s No. 2. Tristan, AHS: Hotel
Sure we got to see Finn Wittrock shirtless (a lot) and make out with, well, everybody. But Tristan was just pretty annoying.
FX
Finn Wittrock’s No. 1. Dandy, AHS: Freak Show
His first American Horror Story role and best American Horror Story role. Dandy was a sociopath and you could tell Wittrock had a great time sinking his teeth into the gig.
FX
Mare Winningham’s No. 4. Alicia, AHS: Coven
Mare Winningham has played a lot of pretty awful people on AHS, but her worst one yet has got to be Kyle’s sexually abusive mom.
FX
Mare Winningham’s No. 3. Rita, AHS: Freak Show
Is Alicia worse than Pepper’s sister Rita? They’re both pretty awful.
FX
Mare Winningham’s No. 2. Sally Keffler, AHS: Cult
We would’ve loved to have spent five more episodes with Winningham’s badass alt-right fighting, joint rolling Sally. Alas, Kai and his goons made sure that would never happen.
FX
Mare Winningham’s No. 1. Ms. Evers, AHS: Hotel
Sure she had her problems, but with Ms. Evers, Winningham finally got more to do than be terrible.
FX
Jamie Brewer’s No. 3. Marjorie, AHS: Freak Show
Can we pretend the all that Neil Patrick Harris stuff didn’t happen on Freak Show? Silver lining: We got Jamie Brewer back into the mix.
FX
Jamie Brewer’s No. 2. Nan, AHS: Coven
Admit it, you were so pissed when Nan was killed on Coven.
FX
Jamie Brewer’s No. 1. Adelaide, AHS: Murder House
Addie was one of the few characters you can actually really feel for on AHS, despite her warnings of death and what not.
FX
Gabourey Sidibe’s No. 2. Regina, AHS: Freak Show
Gabourey Sidibe had so little to do besides get killed by Dandy.
Michele K. Short/FX
Gabourey Sidibe’s No. 1. Queenie, AHS: Coven & Hotel
Yas, Queenie! So brash and so sassy, Queenie was the best. Who could forget her friendship with Kathy Bates’ LaLaurie?
FX
Zachary Quinto’s No. 2. Chad, AHS: Murder House
Zachary Quinto‘s controlling former owner of the Murder House wasn’t anything to write home about.
FX
Zachary Quinto’s No. 1. Dr. Thredson, AHS: Asylum
Creepy with a capitol C!
FX
Taissa Farmiga’s No. 3. Sophie Green, AHS: Roanoke
When we heard that Taissa Farmiga was returning to AHS in her third role, we were thrilled. When she showed up as a truly stupid moderator of a My Roanoke Nightmare fan site, just to be brutally impaled and burned alive—well, we were considerably less thrilled.
FX
Taissa Farmiga’s No. 2. Zoe, AHS: Coven
A little on the annoying side, Zoe’s power of the killer vagina was the only thing that made her interesting.
Ray Mickshaw/FX
Taissa Farmiga’s No. 1. Violet, AHS: Murder House
Spunky and ghostly is just the way we like Taissa Farmiga.
FX
Alexandra Breckinridge’s No. 2. Kaylee, AHS: Coven
A pyrotechnic witch, she was easily duped by and then killed by Hank. Meh.
FX
Alexandra Breckinridge’s No. 1. Moira, AHS: Murder House
Alexandra Breckenridge played the younger Frances Conroy who used this form to tempt and taunt men.
FX
Chloe Sevigny’s No. 2. Alex, AHS: Hotel
Chloe Sevigny‘s character willingly became vampire(y) to be with her beloved son. Other than that, she was pretty boring.
FX
Chloe Sevigny’s No. 1. Shelley, AHS: Asylum
Sure this was a way smaller role, but you could tell she had one heck of a time playing the nymphomaniac who got experimented on by Dr. Arden
FX
Dylan McDermott’s No. 2. Johnny, AHS: Asylum
Talk about mommy and daddy issues!
Ray Mickshaw/FX
Dylan McDermott’s No. 1. Ben, AHS: Murder House
We went from loving to hating and wanting to do everything in between to Dylan McDermott‘s first character.
FX
Denis O’Hare’s No. 5. Stanley, AHS: Freak Show
The smarmiest character ever, his claim to fame was … his big penis.
