WELCOME TO OC VALENTINES CHALLENGE!
Ciao! It's almost that time of year again, when love is in the air and heart-shaped boxes of chocolate are in every gas station, which means it's almost time for the annual oc valentines challenge!
Once again, we begin on the seventh of February and conclude on the 14th. Except from now on the valentines challenges are gonna be a little different: we're going to focus on a certain theme. This year it's tropes, next year it's AUs or prompts. So take a look at the tropes and choose your oc ship it fits to make a graphic, video, web weave, gifset, drabble, aesthetic, playlist, or drawing for!
Rules
DO NOT copy others edits, if you feel someone has stolen your edits, follow these guidelines!
If you are doing crossovers, PLEASE make sure that the creator of the other oc is okay with crossovers.
If you want your post to be reblogged onto this blog, it must contain the hashtag ovc24.
Feel free to ask any questions, as long as your kind about it.
Everything is up to the creators interpretation, although I have tried to include some examples for help!

Day One: First Love
For the first day of the challenge, we've gotta do first love! Make something for your oc and their first love.
Day Two: Second Chance Romance
For day two, we're looking at the one who got away but came back. This is a ship that we're together at one point, broke up for some reason, and then decided to give their relationship another try.
Day Three: No Second Chances in Romances
On the other hand, just because there was love before doesn't mean there will be love after. This is when you realize the one that got away wasn't "the one" after all. Make something for a ship that were together at one point, broke up for some reason, but decided not to give the relationship another try whether that be because of a new love, unrequited feelings, or any other reason.
Day Four: Friends to Lovers
My personal favorite, when they go from friends to lovers. Their enemies know their worst sides, the heroes know their best, but their friends know both and fall in love with them anyways. Show off an oc ship that were friends before lovers.
Day Five: Enemies to Lovers
There's a thin line between love and hate, and sometimes that line gets crossed. For day four, show us one of your oc ships that this happened to.
Day Six: Almost Love
Sometimes loving someone isn't enough. Whether it's because that love is unrequired, the protagonist is torn apart from their love interest in some way, the ship decide their better off as friends, or they can't get past their differences, we're showing off those couples that could've been but never were.
Day Seven: Forbidden Love
Romeo and Juliet, Maria and Tony, even Coriolanus and Lucy Gray-- all star-crossed lovers who took a chance despite their love being forbidden. Today, we sympathize with those lovers that nobody loves (at least in the canon of their stories).
Day Eight: Give Me Love
Give love to other creators by making them a gift with love by signing up for the valentines ocpotluck challenge!

Prompt
There was a new addition to the arctic commune, a small door nestled away, you could only notice it if you already knew it was there. Up against the mountain, covered in snow, it led to a little house, a home for a certain green man Techno had once been an inmate with, a man he knew so well yet not at all.
Techno looked at the entrance, Phil by his side. He was proud, proud of himself for convincing Dream to stay somewhere safe, somewhere away from the prison. He was proud of Dream for making this leap, another step forwards, towards a better person.
A cold breeze threw snow into their faces, the air was chilled, and Techno could sense a storm coming, he’d probably hibernate through it only to find his house buried in snow again, but despite the cold, despite what the future held, he knew his friend would be safe in his new home. 
He placed a chest in front of the door, and left some golden carrots inside, he resisted giving Dream potatoes - as much as he loved them he could understand why Dream was put off the - and a note. A signed book, a welcome and a thank you, and a promise of better days.

Fact, not Fiction
Well it’s been long enough and I’ve decided to just write this all out so everyone doesn’t have to read a series of reblogs and that they can have all the information in one place. Without further adieu *cracks knuckles* let’s get started.
So this entire story between Beka (Impala-dreamer​) and Vanessa (flamencodiva) is being told one sided, so I’m here to tell the other side and yeah.
Vanessa had unfollowed Beka, not blocked, unfollowed because she didn’t appreciate the way that she did things and who she is as a person. Beka had messaged her asking why and the entire thing was born. 
“I blocked you because you ruined my night, by writing me a 90 page essay on why I’m terrible and called me a Narcissist who only cares about people who kiss my ass.” Now, I want all of you to pay attention to how Beka so expertly framed her message to make her out to be the victim. Vanessa had unfollowed her, not publicly said anything, not messaged her anything because she wanted to keep from conflict and not make it a spectacle. Then, Beka makes a post that includes the above quotation making Vanessa out to be the villain. Beka had asked exactly why Vanessa unfollowed her and she told her why, she didn’t sugarcoat it because if she did, then that would be unfair to Beka. Beka then proceeds to post about it in order to make herself out to be the victim, once again claiming, “You are a very mean, heartless person, and you think the world revolves around you and it does not. Not everyone has to like you.” I had initially made a reblog of that very post including this quote and I had responded with -
 “Please allow me to bring to light a situation that had occurred about a month or two ago. I don’t remember exactly what it was, but you had posted something that required follower interaction and after only a single hour, you had ran to the pond discord server and began complaining about how no one looks at your account and your followers don’t like you. From then on, you had gotten a lot of support from a lot of the writers in the pond. I did not want to say this because of privacy, but the fact that you have given zero privacy to Vanessa with this post, I’ve also decided to shed light on something as well.”
This was one of the many situations and events that Beka had complained about her followers. Unfortunately, I have nothing but my own word along with others that have been subjected to or have witnessed events like these. Constantly, I have found Beka complaining about how one of her fic’s flopped, how her followers don’t interact with her, and how she doesn’t like the drama from Tumblr. I think we can all agree with not liking the drama on Tumblr, but when you yourself are creating that drama, it makes it nothing less than hypocrisy. Throughout the entire post of Beka’s response she never explained anything and only told her side of the story - meaning that she is playing the victim. She expertly weaved her web of deceit and left things out on purpose to gain the support of the public so she can have all of the attention. Another thing both myself and MANY other people agree on is that Beka loves attention, constantly posting about things that make people feel bad and send her messages of encouragement even though the very things she’s complaining about, she has started. Allow me to provide some examples.

The fact that she included her almost getting into “two accidents” already makes everyone feel bad for her, getting roped into her web. The repetition of her saying that she’s the “bad guy” implants into everyone's head that she’s pleading. What else screams out “Guys come support me because everyone is making me out to be the bad guy.” Maybe you really are the bad guy, ever thought about that? The “she” that she is referring to is Vanessa and I don’t think I can find a single example of her “terrorism” ever. Oh do you mean when she “terrorizes” other writers by reblogging their stuff with encouraging messages? Is she “terrorizing” her friends when she tags them in a funny gif set? If so wow, she really does terrorize people, you’re right!

This really made me laugh out loud.
Let me start off by reminding all of you that Vanessa is also considered a “big blog” so you going after her for doing everything you have listed here is wrong, but when you do it, you’re allowed to complain about it? Let me also direct your attention over to the hashtag, “I’m out” The sheer amount of times I have witnessed Beka hashtag something with “I’m out” is abysmal. It’s another technique she uses to get people to message her going “oh no please don’t leave!” And what makes me know that for a fact is that every single time she says that she’s “out” I see her responding to asks from people sending encouraging messages. I’m really fed up about it and I just want to share it with all of you who might not be aware of all of these things so you don’t blindly follow and defend her. I used to follow her myself, but when I realized all of these things, I separated myself from that negativity and attention seeking.

The second I had made my initial reblog, Beka had blocked me even though I had said nothing negative and only shed light on something. That shows that she’s trying to cover it up so her image doesn’t get tarnaged. Does this not show how desperate she is to play victim? In this entire little post, she didn’t address a single thing that anyone had responded with and instead found more things to complain about, once again leaving things out to keep her status as the victim.

Now, some people might take what I’m about to say as insensitive but I’m really only stating the facts because I am not appeased by Beka’s self victimization. 
#fine if you want me dead, ...who said that they wanted you dead? I apologize but I don’t remember a single person saying that. This is yet ANOTHER way she is trying to get people to go “Oh no! Don’t think like that! Don’t listen to the haters!” It really baffles me how good she is at playing the victim but also at how ridiculous her antics are.
Another thing I want to add in is a post that Beka had made however many months ago talking about how the “SPN Family” was becoming negative and toxic.

Now to be honest, I think that we can all agree with this at least somewhat and I was actually proud of Beka for writing and posting this. That is, until she made it ALL about herself again.

The second that post was posted, many people tried to spread positivity and love to a lot of others by tagging all of their friends and saying that they are grateful for them and that they love them. Beka then posted the picture above. That’s when I knew she really hadn’t changed at all. She’s proving herself that she just wanted attention in that post by saying “Beka who?” Meaning that she wanted everyone to go to either her DM’s, the comment section, or her asks to send words of encouragement as ALWAYS. 
The reason this is so long is because if I simply claimed that Beka was an attention seeker, it wouldn’t make sense to have no evidence or even just a single piece of evidence. So I’ve provided many, and trust me, there are more.
This entire thing is simply to educate everyone who is either involved or is curious in the current situation, even though it seems like a diss, it’s really me just exposing Beka with facts, not fiction. 
Since Beka deleted my reblog off of her page, I’ll just paste what I said here.
This entire situation really disheartens me.
Let me start off with the fact that Vanessa (flamencodiva) has DELETED her account because of this.
The fact that you came after her for wanting to be Tumblr famous is really wrong and allow me to explain why it is. Vanessa is a close friend of mine and I talk to her almost every single day. She is THE most selfless person I have ever met and is always trying to make others happy even if it makes her sad. She constantly reblogs everyone’s writing to encourage new and upcoming writers, and writers who have been around for a while to spread POSITIVITY. She has never once complained about notes, likes, or follows so I genuinely want to know why you felt the need to say she wants to be Tumblr famous. The only reason she went on anon for that message is because you blocked her so she had no other way of contacting you about why you had blocked her. 
She had privately messaged you to keep this between the two of you but you decided to turn it public, which doesn’t make her the victim, it makes YOU the victim. Right now, everyone who have seen this post knows YOUR side of the story but not hers. Yes, she comes across aggressive, but that’s only if you give her a good reason because you had upset either her or one of her friends which she cherishes.

I personally have unfollowed you for personal reasons but I have not blocked you because I do not deem it necessary and I do not encourage negativity. This post really just oozes negativity and self victimization so I had decided to throw in my ten cents. You can come after me for this or not it’s really up to you but I did not write this with the intent to attack or diss, only to educate. Have a nice day everyone ❤

Unforgettable Characters and Incredible Journeys
A #5amWritersClub virtual retreat
I’m out of bed most mornings by 4:30. It’s worth the trip from the warmth of the blankets down the cold hall to the laptop waiting by the sofa. The cat comes with, and after she’s eaten, shares lap space with the laptop. It’s worth it because I’ve been thriving on the support and camaraderie of the #5amWritersClub on Twitter. This easy group of writers collecting around a hashtag was a fortuitous discovery, and—along with some wonderful writing blogs and books*—has led me forward in my novel-writing journey in a way I wouldn’t have managed, on my own.
This novel was an accident. I watched a TV show where one character kissed another, but there was no story to lead us there, no growing evidence of affection, no true context for the moment. (I know because I watched the show several times, scanning scenes for ever-absent clues.) After the kiss, the two boys in question, companions on a quest, had a short night of snuggling. In the morning, off they went to a sword battle where the kissee was injured. He died. He was buried. His lover was sad, and went home to be knighted, and it was over.
Well, pffft. I set out to write a short fantasy piece that would give these boys a full story and a happy ending. Because, as my character Thaddeus would say, it’s 2021 and we can demand joy for queer people. And here I am, almost a year and 90,000 words later, with a family drama spanning 60 years, more than a dozen characters, two complex plot lines, a 5 a.m. writing habit, and an 8 p.m. bedtime.
I wrote on Twitter that the novel pranced up beside me, dancing prettily, and I jumped on. Together, we have galloped across the world, to find ourselves poised at the lip of a chasm, staring into a rock-strewn torrent. There is a way across. My quest to write a really good story with a happy ending can succeed. But travelling alone, I could spend years finding the path, and years more weaving a rope to get me and my steed across.
So, at the end of April, 2021, I’ll be one of 20 participants in the #5amWritersClub virtual retreat, Unforgettable Characters and Incredible Journeys, led by the incomparable Ralph Walker. Suggested weekly writing exercises beforehand are leading me forward; the retreat itself––two-and-a-half long days of hard work––will help me pull apart my novel-in-progress and weave it together stronger and better. And after, I will be crossing the chasm, with intrepid companions and a new map, able to spot the spires of my destination as I ride out of the trees.

Coffee..
Veg note:  OK trying my hand at a one shot shorty...excuse any typos. They are completely mine as I have done very little editing and I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could actually manage a short and get it posted all in one night..

Kirsten the barista hated the Sunday morning crowd.  It was full of emo wankers who either bitched about the web access being slow while milking their one and only cup of Americana,  stood on their chairs trying to get the ‘best’ picture of their mocha and biscotti for which they would spend way too much time applying filters and hashtag the hell out of it or sit at their tables and vlog about the latest fashion trends seen on whatever carpet had just been walked up.  All ostentatious bullshit that drove her nuts.  
The emos didn’t tip,  the food gurus bitched about their not being enough poppy seed to cookie ration and the fashionista wanna-be’s flicked their long, fake hair extensions all over the place.  Why she continued to work at this place was beyond her..  Though the hours were generally good and the owner only sometimes tried to peek down her top when she was wiping the tables clean.
Jessica was the only other good thing about the place.  She was her best friend for who knows how many years at this point and was her roomie to butt.  They shared a tiny, little walk up about 2 blocks over that was rent controlled…a rarity in this day and age and they loved the city of New York. 
Mixing stuck up coffees for all these fidiots was just a way for her to stay here and enjoy the crazy city. For a few hours each day, she came here, farted around with her bestie and snickered behind her hand at the crowd of the most irritating bunch of jack asses the work could spew out.  
Jessica gave her a hip check as she walked by pulled Kirsten from her musings and she turned around and swatted at her with her dish towel.  
“Are you even listening to me?”  Jessica rolled her eyes
“You lost me at ‘OMG, do you know what Craig did?’  after that I pretty much blanked out.”  Kirsten replied and a smirk on her ruby red lips,  flicking her long, dark braid over her shoulder. 
“Oh my god, you are such a bitch.” Jess shook her head.
“Oh you know you looooovvve me.”  Kirsten batted her eyelashes all dramatically.  “Besides, you know how I feel about that dick wad.” 
‘I know, I know but he has such a great…”  Jessica’s sentence trailed off.
“Has a what?  Great personality?” Receiving no reply, Kirsten turned to her friend. Coffee cup seaming in her hand as she passed it off to one of their regulars.  
Jessica whacked her arm a few times with the back of her hand. 
“OK,  I get it.  You like the guys ass but do you really have…”
Jessica yanked on her hair and caused Kirsten to yelp. “Ouch, Jessica.  What the fu…” as she spun around on the spot and all thoughts in her head ceased.  
The bell above the door chimed a merry jingle as the sexiest thing that ever graced the face of the planet stepped into the coffee house.  “Oh thank the powers that be…”  Kirsten whispered, fanning her face, “He’s back..”  
Warn, brown leather creaked across his broad shoulders as he lifted a thickly muscled arm and plucked the dark aviators from his face, revealing the warmest, richest mahogany eyes Kirsten had ever seen. 
Heat suffusing her cheeks as her eyes wandered from the top of his gorgeous midnight black hair, down his muscled limbs and unbelievably trim waist,  over low slung designer jeans that hugged thick, tight thighs to the tips of his scuffed combat boots and back up again.  
The shadow of a beard darkened the strong line of his jaw and the easy smile that curved up his perfect lips made her knees week.  This.. this right here was why she continued to work at this shitty place.  Screw everything else.. If she never lived to see another day after today she would die happy just by serving this dark haired Adonis a cup of crappy, overpriced coffee. 
As he strolled up to the counter,  tucking his glasses into the pocket of his plaid shirt he met her eyes and his smile widened.   Jessica sank her elbow into her side.  “I call dibs.” she whispers.  
Kirsten picked her jaw off the floor and pounced on her friend. “Hell no!  You got Craig.. This one is mine.” And shoved her friend out of the way, jumping behind the register so she could ring in his order.  She plastered her best ‘Please take me home with you’ smile on her face and puffed up her b-cups.  
“Welcome to the Steamed Bean. Can I take your order?”  Please let me have your children, she tacked on in her head.  Right here on the counter.  I don’t care,  the emos can watch. 
The voice that greeted her ears almost made her lose it right there at the counter.   The soft baritone of it sent shivers down her spine all the way to her toes and a heat lit up her insides.  “Hey,  um.. I’d like a venti chai latte and a venti cappuccino- heavy on the expresso, please.” 
“Right away. Can I offer you one of our signature biscotti?”  She pointed to the glass covered tray beside her.  “Best in New York”
An arched brow as he looked at the baked good nearly sent her to the floor.  Who had brows that epic?! Really, and that charming little scar didn’t detract from his appeal in the least. 
“Best in New York, huh? Well,I can’t very well pass that up can I?”  The smirk.. Oh god that smirk.  
Hold it together girl, you can do it, “Sex.. erm sorry I mean six or would you like a baker’s dozen?”  
Dark and incredibly handsome chuckled at the slip up,  a light red bloomed across his the top of his high cheeks but he didn't comment on it. “Let’s make it a dozen.. They look really good and I skipped breakfast.” 
“Sure, coming right up.”  Nearly tripping over her own feet she scampered about and bumped in her room mate.. Erm what was her name?  Right, Jessica, who handed her a take out container for the baked goods and got to grinding the beans for the expresso shots.  
“What name should I put on this?” She asked grabbing up the necessary paper insulated cups and breaking out a sharpie.  
The hotness shrugged,  “V is fine” and pulled his wallet from his pocket.  
Kirsten smiled wide and put the black permanent marker to use. Finishing up his order, she tucked his drinks into a tray and handy it to him.  
“What do I owe you”
“Oh,  it’s on the house.  Special of the day.”  She said, leaning over the counter
“Uh… thanks.”  Came a slightly confused response as he collected up everything.  “Appreciate that.”  
Turning, his back to the counter he weaved his way through the line up towards the door and Kirsten - like every other red blooded woman in the place, even the emo ones - watched as he went. That was a fine back side if ever she had seen one.  
She continued to watch as he pushed open the door and stepped outside, fanning herself as naughty thoughts that would be better left at home danced through her head.  Just as the line was starting to get crusty with the barista’s lack of attention,  Jessica came over to her.  
“So… “  She almost begged for details.  
“I think I lost my virginity all over again.” 
Jessica gawked at her.  
“Oh.. and I wrote my number on his cup..”
“Oh you sly fox.”  Her friend barked out a laugh.  Eyeing the next customer that was looking at their watch as if the thing could change the course of history and make the women behind the counter better employees.  “Shit,  I sure hope he comes back again.” Jessica sighed dreamily  
“Me too”  Kirsten sighed back and turned around to face the hordes.

Virgil stepped out from the coffee shop and expertly made his way through the traffic to the Audi R8 parked at the curb.  Setting the cup tray on the roof and holding out the bag of sugary goodness to the love of his life, he leaned in for a kiss.  
Kay lips curved up in a secret smile as she took the bag from him and peeked inside.  “Mmm biscotti, my favourite.”  
“Weirdest thing happened..?”
“Oh?” She asked with a quirked brow.  
“”Barista gave me my order for free.. Said it was the special of the day.”  He pulled his cup from the tray and leaned back against the sports car beside her..  “How a place can stay open if they give everything away is beyond me.”  He pondered and took a sip of his hot beverage.  
Kay stared at him and blinked,  lips pursing a bit in displeasure as she watched him raise the hastily scrawled upon cup up for a sip. “Really? I wonder why oh why they would do that...?”  She knew damn well why, her own eyes going down his fine form and she blushed as she thought about why they had missed breakfast this morning.  
“No idea.. “
Leaning up again she placed a kiss on his cheek and rolled her eyes as she sneaked a hand into his pants pocket to snag the keys.
Virgil sucked in a breath as her questing fingers found things other then his keys. “Tanusha..” he growled, eyes darting around.  
Kayo laughed as she freed the keys and darted around the car.  “Come on, oh clueless wonder. We gotta get back before Scott’s head explodes.”  
Virgil just shook his head,  he would never understand the opposite sex. Grabbing up the coffee tray he slipped in the passenger seat beside her and off they went with a squeal of tires.

MM ANON , DEAR SWEET JESUS, The Sus-sex saga is really,REALLY dragging on , the anticipation of a drama at RD, the escape to LA, the archificial debacle, the suspect charity slush funds, it just piles on day after day of PR lies and nutmeg hand wringing, whinging and virtuous lectures to the great unwashed. MM ANON, I’m watching series 1 of the crown, BRILLIANTLY WRITTEN AND EDITED. The filming is so accurate and attention to detail. I remember Norman Hartnell designing the Queens wardrobe for the commonwealth tour. My mother was a dress-maker so I watched everything she watched. Methinks the Queen had something to do with this because it’s so accurate. Reason, she’s 92 ‘ what a visual legacy. I can imagine her throwing a ashtray at Philip, and HIS secret dalliances. EPIC!!

Oh What a Tangled Web We Weave
.... When first we practice to deceive.
This #JussieSmollett saga has got me doing what I rarely do... reading mainstream media news 😛. I’m sure many of you have heard the story by now... random actor from a TV show they don’t play here has the munchies in the middle of the night (who hasn’t?!) and bundles up to make a trek to Subway for a late night snack. Along the way he gets attacked by two men who yell homophobic and racist slurs against him, telling him that this is “MAGA country” (apparently MAGA is the new racial slur ... like it literally stands for Make America Great Again, but okay...) and pour bleach over him. Oh and let’s not forget the noose around his neck.

When this story broke, an outpouring of anger and disbelief was felt around America. Love and grief was poured upon poor Jussie. Celebrities hashtagged, reposted, condemned and sobbed that “love trumps hate”. My favourite white guilted social justice warrior, Matt McGory urged non POC (that’s people of colour for folks that don’t know) to check their white privilege.
Yes, this story was terrible. In this day and age, incidents like this are shocking to read about. The anger and sadness was completely justified.....
If it was true.
A few people that I follow on Insta started being quite vocal about the fact that this story did not add up. I mean, this was literally the day after it happened not two weeks later when a ripple of doubt was starting to appear around Jussie’s story.

1. Going out in subzero temperatures Mmmmkay I can understand being so hungry that you leave the warmth of your house to grab a quick feed. Actually, I don’t understand cos I’m lazy as fuck and would rather deal with hunger pains then leave my comfy house in the middle of the night. I also would have realized that it’s 2019 and UberEats exists.
2. Two white men are stalking the streets of Chicago(One of Obama’s stronghold cities) in freezing temperatures with bleach and a noose, presumably looking for a black person. And they happened to come across and recognize Jussie Smollet (who I’m assuming was bundled up against the freezing night). They also knew that he plays a gay character on a predominantly black cast show as Jussie claims that they yelled out “Empire n****r.”
3. He didn’t immediately call the police and he left the noose on I’m going to play devil’s advocate here and assume that he didn’t want to be left alone and vulnerable on the cold street. He left the noose on to preserve evidence. Okay yes, I can understand this. I mean, I would personally be horrified to come out of an attack to find rope around my neck and believe you me that shit would be yanked off and thrown the fuck away from me ASAP. But, other people react to things differently. I can see a level headed, calm person keeping that shit on as proof. Except... okay did anyone see that GMA interview he did with Robin? I’ll delve into ripping the piss out of it soon but he clearly told a visibly cynical Robin that he was not initially planning on involving the police and that it was his friend who he was with that called the cops. Why would he keep that shit on him if he had no plans to report it? I mean, apart from his pride as a gay man that kept him from calling the police, as he tried to convince us in the interview 😒
4. He did not want to hand over his phone So, Jussie was on the phone to his manager when he was jumped so there’s a clear timeline of events. His manager even heard the perpetrators say “this is MAGA country!” So great, he has proof that this crime was committed. I’m not going to mention that Jussie told Robyn that after he was attacked he took his phone out of his pocket, where his manager was miraculously still on the line. He somehow managed to have a quick window of opportunity to slide his phone in his pocket before he was attacked. Oh, look, I did mention it. Anyway, we all read that Jussie refused to hand over his phone. In his interview he claims that he did not want to hand over his personal information/data to someone he didn’t know. And you know what, I actually understand this part. I too would be reluctant to hand over sensitive information (especially if I was somewhat famous) to the police. Sorry, I’m just a big believer in privacy. Anyway, police speak states that when he did hand it over it was “heavily redacted”. This could mean it was edited, forged, deleted etc so I’m not going to speculate for sure what that PR heavy phrase means.
Okay, can we now talk about that farce of an interview with Robin for Good Morning America? A lot of people claimed that it was an Oscar worthy performance but is it really great acting when we can tell that he’s acting? I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a pin in his pocket that he was using to stab himself with to conjure up the trickle of tears he squeezed out. I’m sure it would have created worse wounds than the chicken scratches that were on his face after two grown as men punched and kicked him.
Another thing I noticed about his interview was the amount of unnecessary information he gave. I love true crime docos. I remember watching one where they described how they knew that certain criminals were lying. There was one story about a man who had sadly murdered his step-granddaughter. The police said that on the day of the crime, the murderer described his day in great detail. What time he woke. What he ate for breakfast. That he vacuumed his house because his dog shed, what he fed his dog etc... yet he couldn’t remember exactly what time his step-granddaughter left the house or what their exact words were to each other. The investigator stated that the guilty party would do this to deflect from the finer details which might catch them out aka trying too hard to be innocent. I couldn’t help but think of this example when I listened to Jussie explain that he went to the fridge, found it empty, decided to go to Walgreens for food and a smoke, found it closed, went across the road to Subway for a sandwich and salad, texted his friend to ask if he wanted anything, then texted his manager, then his manager called... “Too much information!” I remember thinking. It wasn’t until the next day that I read an article by a behavioral therapist stating that he was surprised by the amount of unnecessary information Jussie gave. Called it!

We’re reminded of the threatening hate mail that Jussie received, laughabley worded in cut out magazine letters, making us wonder if we are in a Hollywood movie plot. Robin asks Jussie “why you?” As if these two men were loitering outside of Jussie’s place, hoping he’ll come outside into the cold at 2am. Jussie gives a proud smirk and says “I come really hard on 45.” (That’s not a gay fetish, that’s the number president Trump is) Yeah, no shit, Jussie. You and every other 10,000 people from Hollywood. When I went on his Insta I could have been on any liberal Hollywood celebrity page... all recycling the same rhetoric, all with the same hashtag, at the same rally/march, doing the same fist in the air sign....😴 He didn’t have anything profound, original or controversial to say and he definitely did not go “hard” on anything. And no offense, Jussie, but there are way more impactful celebrities that people care about. So, we still do not know “why you.”
When Robin rightly mentioned the reasons why people doubted his story... Jussie angrily interjects to promote the opening hours of Subway and to remind everyone that not only is he black in America but he is gay, too. He also wishes to let everyone know that as a gay man he is not weak (cos as a society people think that LGBTQ means weak) and that he fought the fuck back. So much so that he scared two muscle bound Nigerians away and came away virtually unscathed. Oh but he does not advocate violence, though. He wants you to fight back somehow, though. Especially if you’re a little gay boy (his words). He also wants you to remember that when somebody reports a crime long after the fact and no one believes them, to remember that he reported (reluctantly) straightaway (after 45 mins of considering it despite leaving the noose on) and no one believes him. He also wants you to see the truth, but you don’t want to see the truth but you know it’s the truth but you don’t want to.. see the truth? Also, he wants you to know that he was on Grindr when he was single, but this was not a Grindr date gone wrong.
Anyway, all joking aside, if Jussie’s story turns out to be true, I will delete this post and pretend nothing happened because, like Jussie, I too have pride.
Now, you may feel that there is no hero in this story, no hope. Well, that is where you would be wrong, my friends! The real hero in this story is the Subway sandwich artist who had prepared and wrapped Jussie’s sandwich so securely that it survived a beat down from two gym enthusiasts. Please Subway, do the right thing and give this hero without a cape a well deserved raise!

Jouelzy is here to talk — and whether you're a #SmartBrownGirl or not, you should listen

This piece is part of an ongoing series exploring what it means to be a woman on the internet. 
In early May, Kanye West said something that made the nation groan — again. 
“When you hear about slavery for 400 years. For 400 years?! That sounds like a choice," he bellowed, voice echoing across the walls of the TMZ offices and broadcast on social media timelines. Fans were in an uproar, loyalists stood by the erratic remarks from their hero, while hip hop analysts argued the implications of a pioneer’s words. 
Two months later, a vlogger who goes by the name Jouelzy uploaded a video to YouTube that shared a little over 10 minutes of discussion about West’s charged comments. That is a long time to wait before producing content that’s riffing off of a viral moment. Just think of how quickly we all cycle through challenges or memes online, and the insane speed at which we move on to the next big thing. 
But that is the beauty of the work that Jouelzy, 33, has consistently churned out to viewers over the years.

Today, Jouelzy is as synonymous with her compelling videos on YouTube as she is with the hashtag #SmartBrownGirl, a movement she began to encompass the critical content she produces. At first glance, it seems like a rallying cry — perhaps akin to CaShawn Thompson's #BlackGirlMagic. But while it evokes a similar sentiment, it has also become a space for a community Jouelzy ushered. It's created space for folks that might not have felt comfortable or accepted in other corners of the internet, and for people craving brash and critical dialogue in a wild, wild web of underwhelming takes.
Before there was an official hashtag to align with her content, smart brown girls were always at the forefront of her work. “I was just talking to myself in the beginning,” she explained, and talking to herself attracted others similar to her, birthing a strong movement on social media built of “smart brown girls” and others. 
“[#SmartBrownGirl] was initially to start a conversation and just to be able to work through things that I was going through myself and to see myself represented,” she explained. “Now it’s more so that I want to encourage a critical dialogue and critical thought because I realized so much of what we consume on social media and in media in general in our day to day is very surface, shallow content.”

With each upload, Jouelzy tackles the many conversations of the moment but her conversational approach is wrapped in a blanket of time and care that is invaluable. By the time a video of hers lands on your screen, the viral moment may have passed, but the nuanced discussion that matters is still going strong in cultural conversations — and Jouelzy’s strength is giving viewers the tools to understand the context from her perspective around what exactly is going on in this complicated world we live in. 
Nowadays the Texan is a YouTube Creator for Change and member of a Google cohort focused on public policy, but like many of us who grew up in the generation of influencer, Jouelzy — who keeps her legal name to herself — just wanted free weaves at the beginning. 
While she held down a job in advertising, and in the midst of applying for a masters degree in business administration, she did what many with access to the internet and a camera have done. She uploaded her first video in 2010 and after some time doing the tutorials, things began to mold into a more concrete path that just worked for her. 
“I just was dealing with a lot of ways in which the world was trying to box me in and tell me who I needed to be in order to be respected,” she explained, recounting the shift between making those hair videos and transforming her channel into a burgeoning hot spot for nuanced conversations. “I was having a hard time with it because I didn’t want to sand down to fit into a perfect little box of what it means to be a respectable black woman in ways that other people don’t have to sand themselves down.”
There’s also the harsh reality about the toll that being a woman, particularly a black woman can bring, and while we witness that manifest in real life, it also impacts those online. 
“I was watching my Facebook timeline change,” Jouelzy said, recalling the months well before the 2016 U.S. presidential election. "I think in 2015, I saw someone tweet “Hillary, if I have to,” she said. “I thought this was fascinating, and then watching that thought process be manipulated by outlets to sway perceptions amongst black women.” 
It was that shift, coupled with the desire to dive deeper into conversations that platforms like Twitter or Instagram limited, that propelled her to do the work that’s resulted in hundreds of videos. Those videos, whether about celebrities or racial discourse, offer up another way to consume the news — but from a friend who is willing to go there, all while having the insight to understand how exactly millennials consume news. 
“I think it’s becoming really dangerous, the fact that we have this mass access to information and a lot of us don’t know how to consume that in relation that’s actually productive and honest and able to verify the correct sources to pull things from,” she said. 
News consumption has changed over the years. According to a study conducted by the American Press Institute, millennials, as compared to their boomer predecessors, are often exposed to even more diverse stories because of the various means from which they get their news — including everything from Twitter to group text messages. The same study, which surveyed over 1,000 people on the phone and in-person between the ages of 18 and 34, also suggests that 83 percent of millennials use YouTube to get their news. 
Constant attacks on the press from the White House and a headline-skimming culture (thanks to the ubiquitous presence of social media timelines) are just a few of the problems facing new and traditional media. And considering most newsrooms are overwhelmingly white, a perspective from a middle-class, college-educated black woman who is not affiliated with a major media organization makes her point of view even more critical. But for Jouelzy, it’s more important now than ever to, in her words, “not tell people what to think but encourage people to think.” 
And she does exactly that — in an entertaining fashion. 
If you wander over to her YouTube channel, you'll find some videos dubbed "Get Ready With Me" — they are like makeup tutorials with a social impact twist and show Jouelzy vulnerable and open on camera as she prepares for the day. Others, like a series called "Pop Snark," are specifically devoted to the latest news in pop culture. “We tend to have a binary thought process, everyone tends to talk like they have the answer,” Jouelzy explained. “I think the more that I’ve gotten into trying to hold these conversations for my smart brown girl audience about things around societal issues that we deal with, the way we are using pop culture, the way pop culture intersects with political history, and how we view each other or even how capitalism impacts our life, [the more] I try to step away from trying to give the answer on things or act like I have the solution or that correct way of thinking because you’re just going to end up tripping yourself up,” she said. 
“The internet has its way of doing that to women who inhabit its corridors,” Jouelzy said. Despite her lack of inhibition when it came to launching her YouTube channel in the beginning, there’s still a lot she keeps offline. “It went decently from the beginning, but I think the more that I’ve gotten into this and the more that I’ve been vulnerable and talking about things that were more intimate to myself that I have picked up some weird insecurities,” she explained. “Now I’m more cognizant of the fact that people don’t like me and beforehand, I wasn’t.”
But people do like her. A lot of people. She has nearly 175,000 subscribers.
"I was never that great with school or in a classroom setting," Dante Dcasso, a fan, said over email. "Jouelzy has a way of keeping me intrigued and wanting to learn more about certain topics when it comes to politics, race, women’s history, etc. I love that I can watch a video about a Kardashian, but also get a lesson," he explained. "She comes off as relatable and I trust her." 
Dcasso found her work randomly on YouTube but since then, has remained an avid viewer after being touched by her discussions around mental health. "I remember immediately binge watching her past content. I wanted to get to know her and I wanted to put everyone on. Jouelzy is the older black sister that I never had," Dcasso explained. 
An older black sister whose goals are to bring the #SmartBrownGirl movement everywhere. 
Jouelzy's working on a top-secret podcast, continuing writing, and trying to make her way to television screens as a commentator. She credits YouTube for being an "equalizer" that has brought support and access and is now helping her actualize bigger dreams — but there's no doubt that like her work in the past, she'll take us all along with her.

I posted this in a comment earlier this week but it didn't get much traction so I thought I'd post it here for any of you to see & follow.Also apologies for grammar/formatting -From what i've gathered over my past SMM campaigns,key point - Keep your target audience on the social media platform where they are interacting, in your case Instagram. Don't drag people to youw website, interest levels drop instantly the link is clicked.Create a social media roadmap Start with these 7 key points in organization of a successful roadmap * Define your objectives * Develop a powerful story/experience * Create an action plan * Look for potential influencers * Create relationships with your relevant infleuncers * and, track the resultsDefine your objectives Your objectives must be tightly defined, and they must be practical and actionable too. The objectives must specify where you're planning to run the campaign(in your case IG), Who you're targeting (which consumers and which influencers), how long your campaign will last, and how it connects with other digital and offline marketing efforts.Develop a powerful story or experience Watch This by Simon Sinek, that will show you how to market your product/services. Because people want to know whom they are dealing with, you need to know the why in your business story. Make a list of these stories - * Why are you running this campaign *, yes you want to sell things, but what is the larger picture? Are you contributing to charity, helping othes be successful, providing a solution, or giving content that doesnt currently exist? be specific. * What Value the customer will get from participating *, Customers want social proof that others you have dealt with have had a great experience. Show them testimonial stories, people enjoying your product, ect... You also need to show how your brand will either specifically improve a customers life or contribute to their sense of worth in relation to their friends (otherwise they wont share your content.) * Who is the main contributor *, Have a story about a person or thing that is leading this effort. Show a product that works, a founder that wants to do good, and so on.Create an action plan Obviously, the actions you take are dictated by the length and complexity of the campaign. Consider these actions when creating a campaign: * A clear call to action: Decide what action you want the user to take, and make sure that everything you do supports that. If the user has to sign up for something, display the sign up process at front and center at all times. * Hashtags: Create a valuable hashtag. For example Redbull's #putacanonit , blew up. Obviously, your biz is not as large as redbull, but create a memorable hashtag for users to replicate. * A venue for crowdsourcing: Are you going to create your own web page for people to share and comment in, or will you use the current platforms? Unless your blog is massive, you would want to stay on IG, showcase your product, and make it available for them to purchase on IG.Craft the content path Map out the actual touch points. It's not enough to say "we'll post a IG pic, and it will go viral" you need to be specific about it. Document that you will share 3 posts a day. One at 9 a.m(ex. interesting picture), one at 5 p.m(ex. informative blog, w/ informative picture), and one at 9 p.m(ex. funny pic). Build a mind map, start with a circle in the middle(campaign name), and radiate interesting ideas around it. From you mind map, you can create specific content calendars that help you manage the content production process. Remember: Your preplanned content is only the first part of what you will be doing. You have to also create organic messages that respomd to on-going campaign to make it real. When people post something about your campaign on IG, make sure to respond to it in a reasonable amount of time.Look for potential influencers Find the most relevant influencers to your campaign, send them a product, and ask for a solid review. 1/2 will post a review to their IG page IF you pick selectively. You also need to design the campaign so that the target person shares or discusses it with someone else. The person should feel that by sharing the campaign with someone else, he derives greater value from it. So like Sunny Co. Every time somebody reposted and linked to them, they got a free suit. Customer InfluenceCreate relationships with relevant influencers Like I stated above you must always be responding to your potential influencers, look at the Marketing Funnel , to see how customers react to products/services. With that, you want to find a joint venture, and create value with them by sharing your product, for you sharing theirs. Although it is a long process, it is crucial to creating a successful SMM campaign for recognition.Track the results You need to be looking back on your SMM campaign, to track, in your perspective if it is successful or not. You can measure a SMM campaign in a lot of different ways. The best method depends on the objectives, the targeted audience, and the social platform(IG). But you must determine what youre going to measure and how before you run your campaign. Otherwise you're never going to know whether it's a success. SMM campaigns often either go really good, or really bad, so you need to prepare for both sides.4 rules to follow to ensure success to your campaign.Be authentic - Everybody talks about being authentic when marketing in the social media realm, but what it means is rarely explained. Authenticity is being honest, transparent, and true to the values of your brand. When you are posting informative information as part of your campaign(or really in general), make sure that you're using your own voice. People catch on to fake speaking much better then us marketers like to believe, just stay real.Operate on a quid pro quo basis - What I mean by this os, give something to consumers that they greedily expect. As you develop a SMM campaign in which you'll be demanding your customers attention, think about the possible quid pro quo. Are you giving valuable information or product in a subtle non salesman way. If you're not giving them something, they won't participate.Give participants higher status - Successful SMM campaigns are designed to make their participants feel special, more special then everyone else around them. That's a good thing. They end up having favorable feelings about your product and go out and buy it. For example, Apple and Harley-davidson, although they may not always have the best product, customers are always attached to them. because they make them feel special. If you watched that video from Simon Sinek above you would understand this in a deeper sense.Let go of the campaign - By virtue of starting the campaign, you probably feel that it is your responsibility to moderate and shape it. Simply, that will not be the case. Successful campaigns are the ones in which the brand advocates take the campaign in new directions. As you develop the campaign, think of yourself as a participant, and not just the owner of the campaign. By letting go, you allow others to take it to new amplified directions.Lastly, Ending the campaign: You will never know when or how to end a campaign if it is successful, do not attempt to try. But there is things you can do to continue recognition of your brand as you notice it slowing down.: - Give participants new reasons to engage with your brand, After you have met the goals of your campaign, think of your next campaign and plan it accordingly to the same group of audience that interatced with the previous one. In fact, try to weave the campaigns together into a program that benefits these people. As you do this remember the four rules of participation: Authenticity, quid pro quo, higher status, and interacting as a participant. - Encourage participants to interact with your blog/website, collect emails by creating/curating valuable content daily. - and, treat participants like existing customers. Someone who has participate in your campaign may not have bought your product, but they have given uyou his time and probably has share a bit of himself with you in the process. Because he has done more then someone who experienced a traditional marketing campaign, you owe him more.Hope you guys picked up a few things, this is the process I've used for my past few campaigns.If you have any suggestions please post below!
