Hayden Williams  Double page spread Research

Annotation: This is my double page illustrator research page on @haydenwilliamsillustrations (@hayden_williams). I had a great time recreating some of Hayden William’s pieces of art work. I recreated his iconic clueless inspired pretty little thing collection models as well as the gorgeous Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello. I began by sketching each individual with a HB pencil then used pencil crayon to colour them. I also used black fine liner for details in the face. I used pencil crayon as my main media and found that I have become more confident when using it as I know that if I make a mistake it’s easy to make the mistake a part of the piece. I then used water colour for the background as I wanted the focus to be on the recreation, but I decided to add the London skyline as Williams is a London based artist.

This has definitely helped me progress in fashion illustration as I have used all my methods that I have learnt over the past unit and compiled them in to this piece. By this I mean I have used the “half and half method” for the clueless inspired pretty little thing colaboration. As well as this I used enlargement for the Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello creation and also using the S-curve to show movement in the bodice. However I do think I could have used the nine head method to show more progress.

New York Fashion Week S/S 2021 Claudia Li’s “till we meet again collection” In the style of Hayden Williams

Annotation: For my New York Fashion week Spring/Summer 2021, I chose Claudia Li’s “till we meet again collection” dress which was inspired by her wedding in Oahu and her Hawaiian heritage. Personally, Claudia Li’s collection really stood out to me as she focused on her past life as well as considering her recent memories. I also appreciate how she took inspiration from the bright aspects of the Hawaii such as the beaches and beautiful green mountains, which was the reason why the garment caught my eye. I decided to choose Hayden Williams as my illustrator for the New York fashion week as he uses vibrant colours when creating his designs on his instagram (@hayden_williams). I began by using one of Hayden’s designs and sketched a similar bodice in my sketch book and then added the garment and facial features with my pencil. Then, using my markers, i began to outline the patterns on the dress. I then used my skin tone pencil crayons for the face, arms and legs and then finally using a black fine liner to outline the piece. For the background, I used watercolours in similar colours to the garment and then added the New York skyline to fit the theme.

I have attached a slide with information that I have compiled together when researching my designer ‘Claudi Li’ as I believe it has helped me to understand why she chose the style of the garment, the patterns and what her inspiration was at the very beginning.  

Overall, I think that my creation for the New York Fashion Week S/S 2021 was a success because I found a great designer (Claudia Li) and illustrator (Hayden Williams) and compiled them both together to create my piece of work. However, I do believe next time I should choose a different illustrator as I had already used Hayden Williams for my artist research double page spread.

Milan fashion week

Dolce and Gabbana in the style of Hayden Williams.

I chose Hayden Willians because of the fact he can make anyone look like a barbie doll.

I chose this dolce and gobbana look because of the fact that Hayden usually draws his women in tight clothing and I wanted to experiment by adding baggy clothing to the mix and I really like this models look.

I use coloured pencil and thick fine liner for this piece and kept all the models features like Hayden’s work.
