i think one of the things that excited me the most about flyers pride night was that the flyers were like… proud. genuinely happy to wear the tape. seeing ersson repost the picture of him with the pride tape is huge. the numerous different ways they chose to wrap the sticks, laughton giving five thousand dollars on his own to the mazzoni center. and the number of guys who HAD the pride tape on! from what i could see during warm ups and from later posts, it was over half of the flyers: atkinson, ETA: BRINK couturier, farabee, frost, foerster, ETA: HATHAWAY, konecny, laughton, tippett, drysdale, sanheim, seeler, york, hart, and ersson!!
a couple things: A. fourteen [ETA FIFTEEN] [ETA SIXTEEN!!] is a HUGE number. B. this is an incomplete list! [IT WAS] I could definitely be misremembering as far as the guys that aren’t listed here - ersson changed his stick to a regular white tape one halfway through warmups, (which made me gaslight myself into thinking it was hart) and I didn’t see drysdale’s until this post caught my eye. subtle but there!and C. remember that staal (would not have worn) and deslauriers (let his daughters paint his fingernails and posted it) weren’t there, so we don’t even have the full picture. to me that’s amazing, considering some of the pretty poor turn out within other teams’ pride nights.
so to know that the guy with the A is setting an example every single night, actively putting genuine effort into helping the philly gay community, and knowing that that leadership has led to so many of the members of this hockey team feeling comfortable and proud enough to wear the colors of our flag gives me such real joy. to know that young hockey players are looking at their idols in the nhl and seeing that kind of support? and to me it’s just as crucial for those that aren’t queer, to see that this acceptance is not only important but also EASY. to know that if they are slinging vitriol, in a place like the Flyers’ locker room it wouldn’t be accepted.
happy pride night, flyers & fans. love you all

Opposite au where childe being stuck in human form drains his energy more so when he turns into foul legacy to fight he gets all uncontrollable if he’s been in human form for too long so when he’s in jail in fontaine and when he’s awake after being knocked out he gets stuck in foul legacy form all angry without any control and the second reader learns he’s in goddamn prison and theyre treating him wildly since he’s now stuck as foul legacy(the guards see it as threat) reader rushes over and tries to comfort him behind the bars.
(angst to fluff? angst to fluff.)
you. you get it.
you're unsurprised when you hear that Childe's been arrested- it was bound to happen at some point, and you both promised to bail each other out if you got into these situations- but you freeze when you're told of his near transformation into Foul Legacy, rushing off to where he's being held without another word. you do your absolute best to patiently explain the situation once you arrive- until you hear the unmistakable shriek of an Abyssal monster, somewhere far away, and your head snaps towards the sound. ignoring the shout of the guards you sprint over, the shriek turning into guttural hisses, and you hurriedly step in front of everyone gathered around the cell and hold up your hands towards the creature inside
Childe. Foul Legacy. your Foul Legacy
Legacy softens the moment he sees you, his bristling fur slowly smoothing out until it's only a little bit poofed, harsh growls becoming whines as he takes what few steps he has in a confined cell to be as close to you as possible. and you gently shush him, allowing him to lean into your palms, his whole body slumping with relief when you begin scratching carefully under his chin. one of the prison guards dares to step closer and Foul Legacy immediately hisses, baring his fangs, and you turn to glare at all the people staring until they finally relent and run away, presumably to get the head of the prison. but you don't care, and simply reach up to pet Legacy's head, almost crying when you hear his quiet purrs, his claws wrapping around your wrists. your murmurs fill the small space, telling him that everything will be okay, that you'll stay by his side until all of this is over, because you will, no matter what the prison guards say
besides, you doubt they want to deal with the repercussions of taking you away from Foul Legacy

CW for an anti-black slur cause it's the name of a damn movie title, also mentions of historical racism in cartoons
Get really pissed off whenever I think about Coonskin by Ralph Bakshi because I need to rewatch it to see if it might be a fave movie of mine. I want to go over all of Bakshi's filmography sometime and really digest how he deals with depicting black people (especially Fritz the Cat cause the black crows are so cute!), cause he's in an interesting perspective where he is undoubtably sympathetic to us and grew up around us, but expresses this in ways that are soooo over the top we commonly see them now as only acceptable For A Black Person To Do.
Like, he's some white Jewish guy from the slums, he doesn't really have the right to reclaim the racist iconography as we think of it but at the same time it's like if someone's doing interesting artistic work they're doing interesting work. And I as a black person have actually been really inspired by that film ever since I watched it.
Ever since the rubber hose style became super hot again cause of Cuphead and Bendy I've seen people actively downplay how goddamn racist old cartoons were, or I've seen people pick up a clip from an old film and I just go "Chat, they don't know this is a quietly racist animation trend...". But it's not even just that old cartoons were racist and had racist trends, it was baked into their fundamental styles of comedy and cartooning - they were built to either exclude or humiliate blackness. And I feel like Coonskin is a work that expresses that very very loudly but with some sense of purpose.
I personally have wanted to tap into that idea since I started playing with golden age art styles, but for the tone I set in my shit that's way too overbearing. Plus, maybe as an actual black person something unique for me and not Bakshi is a wish to actually see myself represented in those old cartoon styles as more than as an object of controversy. I've also been meaning to watch more of the Proud family and works by Bruce W. Smith cause of that too, I heard in an interview he was motivated to draw because he wanted to see black folks in that mid-century, modernist style and like, SAME.
But it's actually way easier to work black features into that incredibly flexible style than it is to brute force them into the centerline/rubberhose ones where their origins can be traced back TO BLACKFACE. You guys remember that fucking lesson right? How the entire generic rubbergose face is a play on blackface, that's why the mouths and eyes are white but the body is black. If you're unfamiliar with that idea or don't believe it, look up Bosko, Warner Bros first attempt at a mascot, and see if you can tell what he's supposed to be.
It's more of an uphill battle, but not impossible to make it work in those styles. Though I have also considered the utility of borrowing directly from those racist designs to express a meta-contextual feeling/understanding that that is what you look like as a black person in this time period - that is you in the dominant narrative vision of the time. No matter what you are as a black person, to the historical zeitgeist you just appear as some flavor of coon yknow.
It could be a very potent visual tool I think, and I don't know if I'd be considering that if not for Bakshi and my relationship to Coonskin and its themeing. Which is the point, Bakshi was one of those racey types who always wanted to get people upset to start a convo or whatever. It's interesting to look at older but earnest expressions of this that would seem disastrous by today's standards - imagine "They couldn't make Blazing Saddles today" but true and on steroids.

|| uploading this here so i can waffle about it some more because since i saw this scene...urgh, it’s just been on my mind so much.
i’ve talked a lot about heid vs godo and how it’s a huge part of my headcanon that godo is the reason why heid could no longer fight on the front line. godo is essentially heid’s sworn enemy in my universe / headcanon that i’ve created for him. obviously, i give heid a lot of credit & skill that some might argue he doesn’t deserve but ultimately -
i see godo as the better fighter.
perhaps when heid was a younger man he could have taken him but as a forty-something-year-old teetering on alcoholism and whose rusty from hardly having to fight? no way.
why am i talking about this with an unrelated scene from a film above ?
well; in this scene, the main character witnesses his entire party be slaughtered by a master swordsman that they challenge like a bunch of a scrubs. the entire time that this swordsman is cutting people down, the main character watches in with a mix of awe, horror, fear...excitement?
the main character in this movie is kind of a dick; he essentially lives for death & is cruel to everybody. he’s a great swordsman, but he lives for evil. i saw a comment about him being sadistic and his sword doubling as his masculinity (shall we say) & to see another man fight so proficiently and so well essentially renders him impotent in that moment,
well, this is how i see heid / godo meeting. like, an almost identical scene / setting & heid’s reaction being in large part the same. i just think that this is such a good representation of that side of my characterisation & i’ve come to adore this scene.
i’d implore anyone to watch it, it’s /so/ beautifully filmed.
