Hello, Pines! Is it okay for me to call you that? You can not answer this if you don’t want to, but you are one of few people who don’t have strong feelings for Dylan/Ryan ship. I wanted to know why? I hope it doesn’t come off combative!

hi, and yeah, it’s more than okay! when i was writing ‘by design’ i was called this by a reader and fellow author, so i kind of gentle of this nickname now, haha.

now, about your question….it doesn’t read as rude or combative to me at all! i don’t get irked, when i’ve asked about stuff that i don’t like or not into. but in turn, i have to warn that i do prefer to be honest about my opinion, and while i don’t hate dylan/ryan ship, i think that people who really love it might find my words kinda downing. my opinions are whimsical and fully based on my own pref and tastes, and what i look for in fiction, so i’d just ask people to view it as this. just me speaking for myself, from my own tower.

*waves a hand* but let’s begin. so ah, dylan/ryan. it’s true, that i indeed don’t have any particularly strong feelings about them as a ship. or about dylan. i don’t hate him as a character, i just don’t care about him lol. surprisingly enough, i didn’t actively distaste anyone in the quarry. and it’s smth, bc supermassive does tend to create/write at least one character, who pisses me off in their games. either way, dylan wasn’t that. he was fine. i just didn’t find him interesting or compelling, or felt like ryan had some insane connection to him.

i look back at all the interactions, that dylan had with ryan, and it’s very generic to me. the game trying to force them into ‘romance’ only made everything worse and feel scripted, rather than coming off natural. i mean, what ryan and dylan have narrative wise, first of all? 1) they talk inside mister h’s office, and it all while they lie out plot points for us, and dylan also makes a comment about ryan always going through chris’s things. so technically speaking, he makes sexual comment about a guy, who he likes with another man. like, if he’s into it okay lol. but it was a bit strange. 2) they might have a kiss, that was basically not happening out of free will. it happened bc of a truth/dare game and not bc either of them decided to do it, while they had some meaningful moment together. more so, i find it almost funny how if ryan picks truth, emma asks about him and mister h. so even the girl, who ‘shipped’ those two or smth, was actually curious about (once again) ryan and another man lmao. you are beginning to see the pattern here too, i believe. 3) the cut off hand scene, that was just….not super impactful, despite it supposed to be tense in an emotional sense vs just a tense gameplay. but it’s not. in fact, i often think, that if the quarry pulled a john & andrew there, aka ryan would have been stuck with his camp leader during the night (and chris wasn’t a werewolf), and they run into the same situation with cutting off hand or not, it would have been so good, y’know? no matter whose hand would have been at stake, it would have been so much more loaded and hard for them to decide what to do, even from non-shipping point. like, how can you intentionally harm someone even if they ask you to, when you feel responsible for them (chris) or when you admire them and they are the most important adult figure in your life (ryan)? cutting off dylan’s hand was traumatising for both dylan and ryan, don’t get me wrong. but it was missing a heavy key-emotional aspect in it. for me, it’s always gonna be more of an evil dead ref, than anything else. i love my gore to be meaningful in one sense or another. which brings me to the following point….

nothing really happens after that. at all. there wasn’t any tension or uncertainty. and okay, maybe they didn’t want to take the route, where dylan would look at ryan oddly, bc he finally realised that he doesn’t even really know the dude at all. but then, nothing in the game led me to believe, like dylan or ryan would be attached to each other to the point, where they both would be able to ‘overlook’ this moment in future, either. so yeah, it only proves, that there was no aftermath, and it was kinda a meaningless scene in terms of the ship, and what a waste! i watched du’met killing charlie 4 separate times, and each time, it was ofhduhgi great, amazing, i could see a personal touch there. and those two weren’t even officially speaking, written as a couple. then, there is dylan who doesn’t even question things and ryan, who have no time to question if he’s fucked up for doing it or not, bc he has other things (mister h) on his mind. and the thing is, that i legit wished that the game would at least make dylan and ryan’s interactions entertaining for me, even if i wouldn’t have shipped them together. like until dawn threw me a bone in chris/ashley segments. i do not ship those two at all, but i loved how the gameplay actually forces you to deal with consequences if chris will pick to shoot ashley or pick josh and not her. at least, they made it interesting and gave a bit different angle to both characters and their possibly not all that deep relationships lol. ashley pettily watching chris to be torn apart spoke volumes about how he might have not been the guy, she thought he was. dylan and ryan don’t get even a bit of this.

next bit be that dylan is a boring character to me, even outside the ship. i cannot think of anything, that would personally interest me, if i had to put him and ryan into a ‘romantic’ set-up. him being prone to panic in extreme situations or insecure doesn’t pull anything in me. it’s very mundane things. and it’s not like i haven’t ever shipped an aloof/emotionally stunted/mental character with basically a ‘normie’. one of such examples be the nite own/rorschach (watchmen). and here is the thing, i don’t like dan lol. he piss me off on a few occasions, and i generally don’t vibe with his character at all. i look at him and see an average joe, who chased after a woman, who usually wouldn’t even glance his way, unless she had some turmoil happening in her life. i see a person, who put on a costume, but couldn’t ever actually commit to all the pain and suffering, that would come along with it, just so that he could do the ‘right thing’. but it didn’t change the fact, that i did like how he had affection for rorschach and how rorschach essentially only ever liked dan in return. even if nite owl was plain for me, he clearly wasn’t for rorschach, who was hilariously delusional about him (along with other things). and i also always saw a chance of dan getting ‘corrupted’ into rorschach's ways of living, which would in return traumatise him and ‘isolate’ him, and make him ‘perfect’ for his fucked up partner. in the end, dan was a simp lol. He wasn’t simp just for laurie, but for rorschach as well, so there was always hope lol. and it’s smth that i cannot see in dylan and ryan’s case at all, bc i don’t think that ryan would care that deeply about some guy to go and try to chase after him. or that dylan would be simping for ryan so hard, that he will be able to shrug off his cool deminear and flat affected reactions. inside my head, they just do not work at all. if you look at all of my multi-chapter fics, that i ever wrote, for whatever pairs, there is a common theme of smth being ‘not quite right there’. i don’t ship someone who is normal and who does normal things, and who doesn’t have some huge ‘flaws’ or clear problems or red flags, that would affect their relationships and who can form a very specific bond only with that other specific person. i wouldn’t have bothered with dan/rorschach, if i didn’t feel like dan’s crush on laurie can be made meaningless and unimportant in the end of the day, bc he would pick rorschach and just be with him, even if he now kills people….

in that sense, dylan for me is what max is for travis/laura shippers. a cuck lol. and trust me, i don’t want or have intentions of diminishing the dude in my fics or hcs. as i said, i don’t think that him having a crush on ryan was bad or that he was having said crush due to a very 20 smth worldview is smth to be frowned upon. like in a way, it legit sucks to be dylan or max in a situation, where your cool eyepatch gf or sofrcore metalic bf would rather fuck some redneck grandpa, than you lol. to summarise it, i’m a guy, who watches ‘phantom of the opera’ and thinks, that i would love to dropkick paul from a rooftop, bc i just don’t need him there lol. i wanted christine to get isolated and corrupted, and disappear with her ‘angel of music’. i’m a dude, who watched dracula and wanted mina gone forever, bc dracula and john were so much more sexy to look at. i’m someone who wished, that ichabod crane would have been abducted in a sleepy hallow movie, like he was in the book. i love it, when it’s complicated and maybe even, ‘bad’ or downright scary to want that thing, but if you are ready to go after it, stay with it, this means that in the end you want it more, than anything else. it’s fiction and i love my fiction to be extreme, be it emotional extreme or smth else. so yeah. ships like dylan/ryan, chris/ashley or idk, erin/jamie weren't made for me, and that’s okay. bc chris/ryan and du’met/charlie is what was made to a t, almost as if to tailor my own fascinations, and i don’t care that canon doesn’t spell it out for me, that they’re destined lovers. in my head, and in my understanding they are. and that's the fun of shipping, really. to just indulge yourself in what you see as crucial for a dynamic to work.

*looks up at the wall of text above* well, uh yeah. i guess it’s all that i say here. like about the ship and dylan on his own. i always compare preferences in fiction (characters, ships, media) to food, bc i feel like it just drives the point across. i’m a very picky eater irl (some textures, tastes would make me gag and i just won’t be able to stomach the said food), and i’m like that with what i ship too. it doesn't objectively make smth amazing and the best there to be, it just makes those things tasty and great for me, subjectively. and i do hope, that one day, internet would just take a chill pill on that matter, and there be less ‘call outs’ about shipping this or that, or someone getting aggressive just cuz someone else doesn’t like their ship and not even in a rude way.

and thank you for asking me this, i do think that it’s important to know why you don’t like smth or just don’t care about it and love that other things instead. it really helps to not fall into ‘trending’ and ending up doing smth that you most likely won’t enjoy at all. spent your time only on stuff, that really ‘speaks’ to you.

maybe if he’s feeling really fancy he’ll go for the roasted milk tea but honestly it’s pretty hit or miss depending on the store

i can see both him and narancia liking kung fu tea and coco. mostly because they’re affordable and have pretty normal options, but are generally more interesting than chatime. but i think narancia would gravitate more towards kung fu tea and mista towards coco since king fu tea focuses more on fruit based drinks and mista would probably think it’s less worth it than a milk tea

okay so i may or may not be biased because this is the drink that i usually order

but i feel like out of the entire gang, fugo and bucciarati are probably the most familiar

and we know fugo has taste because he likes strawberry shortcake, so why not a drink that’s basically liquid strawberry?

he definitely has very bougie preferences, probably likes herbal or “healthy” toppings like bucciarati

only difference being he tends to go for strawberry flavours instead of actual tea

despite his preferences, he’s probably tried every drink out there for research purposes

probably has a spreadsheet with different stores, their drinks, and ratings for things like their atmosphere, customer service, drink to topping ratio, etc

all in all, the most seasoned boba enjoyer

as the only store that sells this drink (and also my personal favourite), i think that his favourite would be shuyi tealicious. it has a lot of drinks and toppings that are hard to find outside of taiwan and has a very curated feel to it that i think fugo would enjoy. the store’s aesthetic is also bright and minimalistic, so it’s the perfect place to study

i don’t see her experimenting that often, like once she’s found a drink that fits her aesthetic that’s it

but she’d probably also enjoy things like drinks with edible glitter or an ombré effect to spice things up

he’s really simple in his approach to date. sure, he’s the son of a bombastic billionaire and kin to actual space royalty. he doesn’t like being taken to fancy restaurants tho, like. not all the time. the occasional michelin experience is fine for him, but it doesnt make a great evening out. his ideal date is a chill night pref rainy night, wearing nothing but his pajamas, and ordering vietnamese food. like some bun rieu and dumplings. maybe even pick up something from a local bakery??? he’s a huge fan of custard buns :) or ordering / cooking whatever, as long as his manz agrees.

put on some music. like some jazz or soul or adult contemporary / quiet storm. something smooth and romantic and beautiful. have a good conversation that lasts for a couple of hours or three. theeen, a movie. he has so many movies he wants to share!! mostly films from hong kong. classics. he’s also a fan of going to indie movie theaters. or like going to showings of so-bad-theyre-good films like ‘ fateful findings ’ lolll. or a classic by a certain tommy wiseau who he wants to meet very badly ,

putting his ideal partner in words is so difficult but trust me... he has his types... he finds so many traits attractive but he finds just as many traits a super turn off.

- istj - actress - bicurious - wilow house academy - she’s the opposite of eloise. eloise let herself be pushed around by her sisters and forgotten about to an extent. delilah has made it clear that she’ll be the trailblazer for the ‘calloways’ in this generation and will happily walk all over her cousins if she has to. fc: sommer ray >> AALIYAH is her best friend. they both met at willow house and delilah took a shine to her confidence. the girls really got along well and they’ve also started to hook up. delilah is bicurious and unsure of her sexuality so relies a lot on aliyah to take the lead. >> ADDY is her cousin. they never grew up in one anothers lives but delilah has always known of her aunts and cousins. the girls have reunited through the talent academy competition and are getting to know each other.

AIDEN NILSEN, son of kristofer - REVAMPED bc i feel like he only existed as haley’s on/off bf.

- esfp - actor - bisexual - blossom bell - he has the same chaotic energy that margo has, but he’s not as much of an asshole :’) he just loves the attention. he was diagnosed with ADHD quite late in life but at this point, he can’t even put it down to that. he went to gallagher and got kicked out in his third year so he probably hasn’t been around for a bit. fc: dylan o’brien >> DIXIE AND FLEUR are family friends. he’s been good friends with dixie for a while and is like a brother figure to her.

SABRINA HUGHES, daughter of ezra

- infp - singer/actress - bisexual - burgundy academy - she was never the cool girl in high school and has always struggled to find her place in social settings. she’s trying to grow her confidence and make an identity for herself but she does get jealous when friends and people close to her get more attention or something that she wanted. fc: halle bailey (i’ll write more when i cbb)

anyway the rowles go for Welsh™ names usually but cadfael’s whole generation sorta just went fuck that and took other naming traditions, resulting in lo and wes having largely normal names, and then genie’s branch deciding to take her mother’s naming traditions (weird as they may be) & also there’s another branch that married a cornish pureblood and went exclusively w hectic cornish names

probably an only child, though it’s possible genie’s mother is her father’s second wife, and there could be an older half brother (would probably need to be younger than lo, though, who’s 24, and definitely younger than wes, 26) running around, but he’d need to be #Committed to the DE life —- we already have one rowle risking it all as a double agent, and this family (esp genie’s branch) is Too Extra™ to have multiple

genie is spoilt, petty, vindictive and has... pretty much no moral qualms. she’s generous, though, with her friends, and fiercely loyal to her family.

when she was younger, she had a... rebellious streak might be too generous a term, because no part of her ever felt any inclination to contend with her privileged position, but there was a certain freedom to her position in the family, the youngest of the cousins and a girl —- whereas all eyes were on wes, the heir, the truth, genie was allowed to run a little more wild. nothing not befitting a rowle, of course, for that would not do, but she had more freedom to act as she pleased, to say whatever she liked, to keep her running muttered commentary going during the galas, to suggest wicked plots for her own amusement. genie rowle was always unconcerned with what was fair or right, but she was fun and clever and wicked funny, and was willing to put all her devilish tactics to the good use of entertaining a friend when the fancy took her. children are often vaguely terrible, and these privileged purebloods more than most —- genie was far from an exception, and when she was your friend, she was easy to love for it

just like wes, prefers getting other people to do her dirty work for her... she’ll do all the psychological stuff and bullying for sure, but she’s less inclined towards physical violence or anything or the like —- that’s more odilia’s or sarah-tbd’s domain? also even just minor things, she likes getting other people to do things for her, it’s a power thing (not her girls — well, maybe maddison — but like... weaker people DFJHSJH)

the other half are the urquharts, who’re known for obtaining objects for the underground market, particularly historical wixen artefacts. traditionally, the eldest male has been the ‘face’ of the family, being respectable in public and also being the one who handles transactions and makes deals and sells off their findings or obtains requests for them. either a secondary branch or a younger sibling has traditionally been the head of expeditions, sent all around the world to uncover these things for this illegal trade. crime & curse breaking, therefore, have always run in the family.

her uncle, orpheus urquhart, was recently violently attacked (he’s a DE supporter/benefactor in terms of bankrolling things so like.... he’s gross!) & catch her in the lockdown being both outraged ppl would have the audacity to attack him and have room in her naughty self to be absolutely awful to poor yuri

We don't know much about them other than people are unaware they're 'real'. Truthfully unless I see some actual world affecting stuff, I don't believe this won't have any affect on his endeavors directly. Indirectly, perhaps. Like how Eric + Celeste already have been doing the magical thing for some time - that there's conspiracy theorists going around

IDK and TBH this is the most frustrating part of the read for me. It's all hearsay footnotes in the comic. If these three space people were so important and play such a huge role, why have they only been foot notes so far? In fact I didn't know it was 3 people initially because the compound name has been confusing and it took a trip to the creator's site and into the character reincarnation to figure out it's actually 3 people. Which sadly has spoiled some things for me ;;;;

Sadly I don't have a favorite scene nor character yet. Mickael was getting close but I'm kinda playing it by ear right now. >_>' But it's a very pretty comic; the eyes in particular have such a pretty depth to them ^u^(edited)

1. My favorite scene so far was the one where Decebal was behind Mickeal at his home. It felt kinda spooky. I also like Erik talking to Naples in bed, I think it showed how young Erik is, lol. 2. My favorite character is Erik, cause he's adorable n(UvU)n I'd like to see more of Arrow though, I feel like he's been underused so far.(edited)

5. Hope said hes a proxy for one of the big space people so I'm guessing that initially. The only reason he doesnt have powers is because they havent given him any, right? So I think hes going to have a much bigger purpose later. I mean it seems Erik is the big power house but theres probably areas he cant touch that the other two can.

I'm curious though what proxy means specifically in this case

Can't say! Not enough info to judge this. As far as stopping Decebal -- if not in this life, then maybe another...

MDV -- Because making sure the earth doesn't get screwed up by a grumpy fallen angel is kinda important. Also, clearly Erik, Arrow, and Celeste are somehow otherwise linked to those three!

One of the things I always wonder while reading Soul Hymn is that would Erik like goat cheese? Or what kinds of foods with the characters like or dislike and if they are connected through all the souls do the all have the same likes and dislikes or different depending on each thing.

1. Favourite scene so far was when Arrow saw Erik for the first time and completely just shoved his sister across to make room for him. It was just the comedic moment of the dismay in Celeste's face. 2. I think my favourite is Squirrel Familiar? I'm trying to look for the name since it's been awhile since I read the comic, but I love how sassy that squirrel was.

Haha, I like that scene too with him pushing her on the chair Yeah~! Naples is his name. Also, they do generally keep a lot of their likes and dislikes from other lives, but some things change too based on their current environment and upbringing. The ring spell didn't give them any new knowledge or information so it didn't really change anything in their personality. The spell varies from life to life though based on what their souls predetermined for it before being born. Erik would like goat cheese I think XD He's not really a picky eater, although I do think he's vegetarian. Erik really likes to cook too so he has a wide repertoire culinary wise. Arrow would most like foods he can eat while working I think, like sandwiches and fast food. Celeste is kind of apathetic about food overall, although I don't think she'd turn down a pastry, lol.

That scene in the train subway thing where Erik and Celeste fought that demon and had to be bailed out by Hope. I vastly enjoy that Hope came expecting the proxy people to solve all his problems, except nope. No problems solved for him. They aren't ready.

I feel like it's too early for me to gauge it so I can't really give a clear answer. I believe Erik will succeed tho as long as he gets his psyche intact and not get affected by the pillars like what happened when Desire grabbed his hand.

I dunno... I feel like they will just watch and let the trio deal with this themselves. Otherwise they would've interfere already.

I do know stuffs from outside the comic that is particularly spoilery <.< So I kinda know the real reason but I do hope Arrow will transform in anyway? That would be fun to see.

I mean soul hymn should be pretty okay by itself, but maha deva vijaya have appeared in Zenchav out of order so it explains them a touch more atm, and soul hymn will directly feed into Zenchav by the end, but it hasn't yet. Witch Carnival also mentions the ring spell more, but again I don't think any of them are actually necessary to read for the story, more just additional information for people into the overarching story

RedEmyr ties into Soul Hymn the least so it d be super irrelevant to read for SH info

Basically the virtues are angels who perform small miracles within mankind and represent a virtuous quality. Decebal turned them into their negative opposite and that negative quality is then constantly feeding into them from their surroundings (via people's negative thoughts and energy). They're called the pillars in this negative state because to Decebal they represent a pillar of negative energy he's building for a "purpose".

In my state we are forced to have car insurance or we will be fined. I know that having the government intervene more in our health insurance seems like more of a step in a socialism direction but were we already going that direction anyway with car insurance AND we did already have medicare and medicaid.
