so i am an ardent Sasha James Enjoyer, and as such i very much dislike fanon!Sasha. her personality and character do a near-complete 180 from canon to fanon, making it tough as hell to find fics that don't just make her the Braincell Mom Friend—if she's even featured—and i took that personally. i'm a fic writer, and i have quite a few WIPs bouncing around in my flash drive that feature her in at least some capacity, and i certainly didn't want to add to the pile of fics where Sasha is Like That. so, a while ago i re-listened to every episode she appears in and Compiled A List of Sasha Trivia, just random bits of info that caught my attention that help me keep a clear image of her character in my head. with maybe a little bit of headcanon thrown in there for fun.

so! without further ado: various Sasha notes bc i love her

never had any direct interactions/experiences with the supernatural before the Distortion

afraid of rollercoasters, doesn't like horror

considered herself a skeptic, thought working in the Institute made her moreso

had a "dreary" commute to work, liked peeking through the old warped windows of her building's stairwell bc it made people distort like a funhouse mirror

a bit of a pedant (calliope)

was more sympathetic towards Martin than the other two were after he gave his first statement in 022, felt bad for him being the target of Jon's ire

sososo curious, to the point it can overpower fear

deliberately didn't tell Jon about her initial encounter with the Distortion bc she knew he'd try to discourage her from going, which she'd already decided to do (stubborn)

of course, followed the Distortion (a whole-ass monster) to a cemetery in the dead of night without telling anyone about it

(she did so because it sounded like it knew a way to save Jon's, Tim's, and Martin's lives, and in the wake of Prentiss targeting Martin, she decided she couldn't take that chance)

"without thinking" she figured out how to kill the worms using CO2. i like to think that was some Knowing right there

Jon considered her the most "level-headed" of the team, and trusted her to be telling the truth

was the one to ask if Jon was okay after being caught off-guard by his surprise party (and was also the one who said it was "kind of fun, giving you a heart attack")

knew Jon was lying about his age, knew about Martin's CV (goes through her coworkers' files)

despite having hacked her way into said confidential files, she considered being recorded during Jon's birthday party an invasion of privacy

bullied Tim into stapling statements that one time

Tim was more outwardly upset by Jon's being promoted instead of Sasha than she was. she knew if she said anything about it she'd just wind up in trouble, so she kept her mouth shut

had been in academia for ten years by the time the Archives transfer occurred

knew about Danny and the reasons Tim joined the Institute

didn't think there was such a thing as a "real you," save for the actions one takes. considered everything else a mask put on for others

was dead-sure (and was correct in thinking that) Gertrude kept the Archives a mess for a reason, and was concerned about what the reason could be

and that's about all! alas it would have been wonderful if we'd gotten the chance to learn more about her, but given she's only in six episodes, some only for a moment, she really is jam-packed full of character and life. i love her so much.

Reinventing my Gryffindor MC: Genevieve Belette

Getting immersed in my first proper longfic for the fandom again, The Darkness Within, I went and changed my Gryffindor MC up a little. Her backstory/my headcanons for her are still somewhat the same, she just looks a little different. (Thank goodness for mods!) (That fic portrays an older version of her, where she's 21/23, and it's NSFW! Just FYI!)

Aries (who is determined, courageous, charismatic, honest, passionate, energetic, impatient, impulsive)

was born a Weasley: Father was a Weasley, mother a Rosier (making her a pure-blood, despite being born a Squib), and when she didn't receive her Hogwarts letter at age 11, she was sent to live with non-magical relatives (the Belettes) in France, who practically adopted her, where she stayed until she turned 15

has a strained relationship with her parents and even though they somewhat accepted her back into the family after she found her magic, she still holds a little bit of a grudge (and will keep the name of her adoptive parents)

has a scar on her right cheek (was a reckless child who tried everything to awaken her magic, but failed, mother refused to heal her wound properly and left her with that scar, sent her away shortly thereafter)

was taught to be a proper lady in France (had a house teacher) and it took her a while to get used to the fact that girls wore trousers in Hogwarts

Notes:

Yes, she is basically Ginny Weasley with her twin brothers' birth date, I was very creative when naming and creating her XD (belette is also the French word for weasel, so, there's that) Rosier was/is a pure-blood family originating in France in HP canon, but I HC that those relatives come from the Weasley side. And even though she is related to Garreth and Prof Weasley, it is very distant and they might not know about it due to their vast family tree and her name change (and her mother's influence, the Rosiers were much stricter and Darker and I can imagine her mother had cut the ties to her husband's family because she didn't think as open as the Weasleys did).

ALT.T.P backstory is pretty interesting and crucial for how I play my lovely princess. The imprisoning war happened far before she was even born, and she was born during the centuries of peace when that war happened. Here’s the thing: the war did damage to the lands and remnants of it still remains in the form of abandoned places of worship and the monsters crossing over from the dark world. There was no war going on, yes, but it wasn’t completely safe and sound. Now, when she was born the beginning of the pestilence started. Her mother died from the disease that ran around for a bit before it died down. Since losing his wife from the disease, and how Zel has very delicate constitution, she grew up in a cloistered household out of protection for his only daughter and heir. She didn’t have too many friends growing up, Impa was as close as she got with that as well as the oracles. With the maidens, she was familiar enough with them, but not exactly close. It wasn’t until she was around 16 where not only the epidemic returned, but also famine would begin to start and soon struck the lands. As you can imagine, lots of death happened during this time. Yadda yadda, Agahnim mysteriously showed up and magically solved the problem with, uh magic, and Zel suspecting that he had something to do with it, him somehow taking over the throne, killing the king, then imprisoning Zel to break the seal, Link saving the lands. Yes, yes, we know about this. But, Agahnim taking away her only family she had plunged Zel to a deep depression. Part of the reason why she wears darker shades of blue now is because she’s silently mourning the loss of her family, if she were to wear black she believes it might worry others and show how she’s still affected by this. As said in her profile, she represses all emotions and desires to appear as a calm yet confident and strong for the sake of her people. Emotionally, though she has silent determination and is very hopeful/carries faith in others, when it comes to herself she’s pretty fragile. Having zero friends or people to confide in does that haha. 

Also, the whole ordeal where Agahnim had complete power over the king is why she’s very cautious around nobles and people of higher power. Agahnim is not the only one who’d fight for the throne nor will he be the last person. They’re not to be trusted, they can and will stab you behind the back in the name of the crown and possessing the rumored golden power the royal family has hidden away. She had to develop deep cunning and learn how to lie.

The Elle guise comes from her wanting at least a taste of what life outside of the castle is like, and running from the brutal court. It’s a rare moment where she doesn’t have to repress... too much, that is. She still does. 

TLDR: Quiet, depressed princess who grew up in strict and lonely environment just wants a simple life hence why she is the way she is in how I write her <3

Just a small town girl, she lives in a family of two. There’s no grand destiny, she’s just your average girl here. Her mother passed away long ago when she had only been three years old due to a car crash accident. Her father is the mayor of the town she came from. 

Living on campus in the big city, Ze.lda attends college and she is studying to become a writer namely for journalism since she always had a dream with having her writings show up in the newspapers spreading what’s essentially important information to the public, on the side she writes short stories that are mostly romantic or fantasy just for fun since she has a passion for writing, she mostly does this when she has spare time which is kinda rare given her busy schedule. While she can work on TV, she’d much rather not lol... she’s a lil camera shy and worries that she may mess up on camera.

GENERAL

OBJECTIVE.   the  creation  and  production  of  ideal  service  and  therapy  animals.

LAB  POLICIES.   lab  animals   (  around  rocket’s  size  )   not  undergoing  procedure  or  receiving  treatment  were  kept  separate  in  rows  of  individual,   disinfected  5″x5″x3″  steel  cages  at  all  times.   lab  animals  were  only  handled  in  full  scrubs,   including  gloves.   lab  animals  were  fed  twice  per  day.   lab  animals  were  made  to  wear  catheters  and  their  urine  was  sampled.   lab  animals’   stool  was  collected  for  samples  every  morning  and  at  the  end  of  every  day.   lab  animals  were  carried  to  the  shower  area  in  their  cages  twice  per  week,   and  hosed  down.   lab  animals,   regardless  of  neurological  development,   were  not  allowed  clothing  or  any  other  recreational  items.   lab  animals  were  given  treatment  to  keep  their  muscles  healthy  despite  a  complete  lack  of  scheduled  or  allowed  exercise.   for  budgetary  reasons  lab  animals  were  only  given  localized  anesthesia  during  procedures.   lab  animals  deemed  to  have  attained  intelligence  were  kept  in  complete  isolation  until  enhancement  and  testing  was  completed.   animals  with  sharp  teeth   (  like  rocket  )   were  muzzled  during  any  contact  with  handlers  or  doctors.

EQUIPMENT.   for  those  who’ve  seen  in.finity  war;   something  like  the  rig  than.os  used  for  ne.bula,   though  much  more  geared  towards  biological  matter  and  its  preservation  throughout  the  time  spent  pulled  apart.   the  halfworlders  are  /  were  capable  of  stopping  a  creature’s  heart  and  respiratory  system  while  maintaining  its  brain  functions.

TREATMENT  OF  LAB  ANIMALS.   while  they  could  not  be  damaged  without  also  damaging  an  investment,   animals  were  not  handled  gently  by  most  handlers.   most  of  them  were  conscious  for  every  procedure.   handling  animals  with  actual  affection   (  petting  them,   speaking  gently  to  them,   playing  with  them,   communicating  with  talking / sentient  animals  beyond  instructions  )   was  strictly  prohibited.

TIMELINE

ABDUCTION.   rocket  wasn’t  the  one  abducted,   the  raccoon  he’d  presumably  call  his  grandmother  was.   taken  by  visiting  poacher  aliens,   she  would  have  been  sold  as  an  exotic  meal  at  an  alien  market  if  some  halfworlders  hadn’t  been  looking  for  lab  animals  at  the  time.   she  was  bought  alongside  two  unrelated  males.   by  coincidence,   one  the  halfworlders  would  call  lucky,   she  was  in  the  early  stages  of  pregnancy  at  the  time.   she  was  the  first  generation  to  receive  genetic  enhancement  implants,   to  influence  her  kits’  development,   but  her  brain  was  not  enhanced  in  any  way.   she  was  euthanized  after  weaning  her  litter,   and  her  brain  was  dissected  in  the  name  of  knowledge;   specifically,   research  that  would  make  rocket’s  neurological  enhancements  possible.

MOTHER.   one  of  four  kits,   and  the  only  female.   she  received  many  rounds  of  genetic  implants  throughout  her  short   (  ca  2.5  year  long  )   lifespan.   she  was  deliberately  bred  with  one  of  the  previous  generation’s  males  when  she  reached  maturity,   and  delivered  another  litter  of  four,   which  she  was  immediately  separated  from.   she  and  her  brothers  were  not  given  enhanced  intelligence  or  sentience,   but  her  brothers  were  the  first  raccoons  the  cybernetic  body  parts,   and  the  procedures  evolved  to  replace  original  parts  with  them,   were  tested  on,   with  relative  success.   once  their  usefulness  was  deemed  exceeded,   they  were  euthanized  and  studied  as  well.

0 - 3  MONTHS.   rocket  was  the  runt  of  the  litter   (  he  had  two  brothers  and  one  sister,   not  that  he’d  ever  know  ),   placed  in  an  incubating  cage  all  by  himself  as  soon  as  his  fur  had  been  dried.   he  was  kept  there  for  the  first  twelve  weeks  of  his  life,   fed  and  then  slowly  weaned  off  the  milk  of  his  mother   (  who  was  still  alive,   but  elsewhere  in  the  facility,   at  the  time  ),   until  his  body  was  completely  developed  and  self - sufficient.   he  was  then  moved  to  a  regular  steel  cage.

3 - 6  MONTHS.   during  this  time  rocket  mostly  received  a  new  version  of  genetic  implants,   which  acted  much  faster,   to  prepare  his  body  for  future  changes.   he  was  also  given  all  manners  of  regular  health  check  ups,   vaccinations,   and  other  related  treatments.

FIRST  MAJOR  PROCEDURE.   rocket  received  localized  anesthesia  and  another  localized  injection  to  temporarily  coagulate  his  blood  into  a  gelatinous  state.   his  right  leg  and  arm  were  then  severed  from  his  hip  and  shoulder,   and  separated  into  many  smaller  parts  to  replace  all  the  individual  bones  with  cybernetic  ones  without  damaging  the  tissue  around  them  too  much.   the  surgery  was  completed  after  14  hours.   rocket’s  sister  died  from  stress  when  this  surgery  was  performed  on  her  hours  earlier.

6 - 7  MONTHS.   post - op  recovery  and  testing  of  the  new  limbs.

SECOND  MAJOR  PROCEDURE.   same  one,   for  his  left - side  limbs  this  time.   surgery  completed  after  14  hours.

7 - 8  MONTHS.   post - op  recovery  and  testing  of  the  new  limbs.

THIRD  MAJOR  PROCEDURE.   rocket’s  outer  ears  were  removed,   the  natural  cartilage  in  them  replaced  with  a  sturdier,   more  flexible  cybernetic  version.   surgery  completed  after  5  hours.

8 - 9  MONTHS.   post - op  recovery  and  testing  of  the  new  ears.

FOURTH  MAJOR  PROCEDURE.   rocket’s  arms  and  legs  were  severed  at  the  elbow  /  knee,   to  improve  upon  the  cybernetics  in  his  wrists,   hands,   ankles  and  feet.   work  was  simultaneously  done  on  his  still  attached  elbows  and  knees.   surgery  completed  after  18  hours.   rocket’s  oldest  brother  died  from  stress  when  this  surgery  was  performed  on  him.

9 - 10  MONTHS.   post - op  recovery  and  testing  of  the  additions.

FIFTH  MAJOR  PROCEDURE.   rocket  was  given  full  anesthetic  and  coagulant  from  the  neck  down.   his  spine   (  from  the  base  of  his  skull  to  his  tail  )   was  removed  and  replaced.   the  sides  and  the  back  of  his  skull  were  removed,   and  then  replaced  towards  the  end  of  the  procedure.   he  was  given  the  cybernetic  implants  meant  to  enhance  his  cerebral  cortex  in  various  ways,   to  give  him  a  more  advanced  level  of  intelligence.   he  was  given  another  implant  programmed  with  a  multitude  of  languages,   and  a  universal  translator.   surgery  completed  after  26  hours.   rocket’s  last  brother  died  when  this  surgery  was  performed  on  him.

10 - 12  MONTHS.   post - op  recovery  and  testing.   during  this  time,   rocket  was  temporarily  placed  in  a  two - way - mirrored,   windowless  room,   and  given  simple  and  harmless  tools.   he  was  closely  observed  every  minute  of  both  day  and  night.

SIXTH  MAJOR  PROCEDURE.   rocket’s  larynx  and  pharynx  were  replaced  with  cybernetic,   altered  versions  that  would  allow  him  to  speak  a  much  wider  range  of  languages.   surgery  completed  after  9  hours.

12 - 13  MONTHS.   post - op  recovery  and  testing.   returned  to  the  observation  room,   rocket  first  spoke  at  exactly  one  year,   one  week  and  two  days’  age.   his  first  word  was  in  his  halfworld  handlers’  tongue,   and  it  was  stop;   his  throat  was  being  examined  at  the  time.

13 - 15  MONTHS.   once  his  throat  had  recovered  fully,   and  it  was  established  that  he  could  both  communicate  and  demonstrated  intelligence,   rocket  was  made  to  perform  a  series  of  cognitive  and  linguistic  exercises  under  observation.   he  deliberately  downplayed  his  performance  and  intelligence.   his  responses  to  pain  and  pleasure  were  also  tested.   when  not  performing  tests,   rocket  was  placed  back  in  a  steel  cage,   in  a  room  all  by  himself  rather  than  the  usual  rows  with  neighbours.   during  this  time  he  tried  to  converse  freely  with,   and  then  provoke,   whoever  would  listen.   rocket  stopped  trying  to  talk  to  his  handlers  after  a  few  days  of  nonstop  attempts,   when  he  realized  they  would  not  respond  regardless  of  what  was  said.

SEVENTH  MAJOR  PROCEDURE.   rocket’s  sternum,   ribs  and  hipbones  were  gradually  removed  and  replaced  with  cybernetics,   enabling  him  to  finally  move  his  cybernetic  skeleton  as  he  pleased.   surgery  completed  after  18  hours.

15 - 17  MONTHS.   post - op  recovery  and  testing.   during  this  time  rocket  walked  upright  for  the  first  time,   and  was  finally  completely  pain - free  for  the  first  time  since  the  cybernetic  skeletal  replacements  began.

FIRST  ESCAPE  ATTEMPT.   first  true  sign  of  rebellion,   period.   rocket  tried  to  scratch  and  attack  his  handler  when  his  cage  was  opened.   he  did  not  escape  the  room  he  was  kept  in,   and  was  sedated.

17 - 22  MONTHS.   during  this  time  rocket  underwent  five  different  surgeries  meant  to  partly  replace  and  enhance  different  parts  of  his  nervous  system.   he  was  constantly  restrained   (  chained  around  the  neck  )   inside  his  cage  during  months  18 - 22,   following  two  more  escape  attempts  in  short  succession.

EIGHT  MAJOR  PROCEDURE.   performed  on  rocket’s  inner  ears  and  nose,   to  enhance  his  hearing,   balance  and  sense  of  smell  further  than  even  the  genetic  implants  could  accomplish.   surgery  completed  after  11  hours.

22 - 23  MONTHS.   post - op  recovery  and  testing.

FOURTH  ESCAPE  ATTEMPT.   he  killed  his  primary  handler  by  gouging  into  their  neck.   he  escaped  his  room  but  not  his  wing  before  it  was  sealed,   and  was  found  hiding  from  the  blaring  of  the  alarm  beneath  some  empty  cages  in  a  state  of  distress.

NINTH  MAJOR  PROCEDURE.   rocket  was  fully  anesthetized  once  again,   and  tweaks,   improvements  and  enhancements  were  performed  on  his  brain  implants.   he  was  given  an  additional  implant  to  enhance  his  sight,   and  another  with  specific  technical  knowledge.   he  was  implanted  with  a  tracking  device.   surgery  completed  after  26  hours.

23 - 24  MONTHS.   post - op  recovery  and  testing.

THROUGHOUT  THIS  TIME,   smaller  surgeries  to  correct  mistakes,   or  to  replace  infected  tissue,   were  often  performed  on  him.   he  was  awake  during  these  surgeries  as  well.

COMPLETION.   deemed  the  first  successful  raccoon  produced  for  the  therapy  /  service  animal  program,   rocket  was  given  a  shock  device   (  similar  to  the  ones  used  on  sakaar  ),   and  sold  to  his  intended  owner;   a  rich  halfworlder  in  need  of  a  chauffeur  /  pilot.   he  did  not  care  for  it.   it  was  while  he  was  employed  by  this  halfworlder  that  he  met  lylla,   a  similarly  enhanced  otter  meant  for  company.

It be fun for missions and roleplays where he had to sneak into places, but I was gonna make it so that like stretching out a body part of yours; it was gonna tire him out and he'd have to sneak around a corner and rest for a short time.

Eventually while thinking on it, giving him the ability to stretch his arm to the size of a bus is a bit powerful and I thought maybe save it for a kid or something later. He can minorly stretch himself into a butterfly shape to glide later on and cheating a bit, flattening his hands and arms to fly. But that's him at his peak of quirk evolution.//
