Brethren I made a bomb-ass pasta dish today. That little hit of lemon I added at the end did so much to wake everything up, holy shit! Adam Ragusea was right <3 It doesn't even taste lemony. This is great.
My only regret is a lack of garlic, as we don't have any in the house since stepdad can't handle garlic-breath, and we're unlikely to get some anytime soon. [<--actual torture for a Slav, no matter how britticised.]

it's kind of funny to me, albeit very interesting, that I'm a very picky eater and yet have also become a locavore and something of a 'foodie' per se, I really enjoy food (and cooking!), and going to unique and sometimes upscale restaurants serving ~local ingredients~ and I really value a quality dining experience and learning the character of new places through their food. yet I got a 29 on that picky eater test lol
#is this a contradiction? like im just wondering if there's other picky eaters out there who also are really into food#picky eaters get stereotyped into 'so you only eat chicken nuggets and french fries'#but I almost never go out to eat unless i'm traveling#I cook all my meals and I love discovering new combinations of foods and flavors I like and I eat quite healthy#(I don't really like fried foods or fast food so like. what foods one is picky about varies way more than is commonly realized)#like an average dinner for me is wild-caught salmon with garlic-sauteed swiss chard and wild rice#but the number of foods i do not like is. through the roof according to mainstream society or smth.#and it's true i dislike a Lot of vegetables and fruits. but the things i do like I try to eat a lot of#there's a pretty small sliver of flavors and ingredients i enjoy from the total global pool of foods. but within it i try to be creative#and i love food and cooking more than anything#food is one of the greatest joys of life for me#idk. i just have not heard about others having this sort of dichotomy and i'd like to know if this is a thing#maybe bc i'm an ecologist? like all my coworkers are either vegans or hunters or locavores#i'll eat p much any game or fish#my desire to eat local is an ideological one as much as a flavor and nutritional one#and because of my ulcerative colitis i have additional restrictions (not enforced. but Recommended) on my diet#such as reducing processed sugar for unrefined sugars and using gluten alternatives when i bake etc#it's just an interesting mix of things imo and it seems inexplicable to people i try to explain it to irl

living in an apartment you just moved into sucks because I don't really have any staples in my kitchen yet, so my shopping cart with everything I need to make five nice dinners for one person (with leftovers for lunches) this week comes up to $80 and it's like. wat da fuck

Hi clari:)))) are you a fan of cooking? I’m trying to cook more so I’ll stop eating frozen tv dinners all the time but I don’t think cooking is very fun
hello c: i am a fan of cooking! though i eat quite simple so i don't really make like, super elaborate or complex meals. i like baking better than i like cooking (especially if i'm baking for someone because i think receiving something made with love by hand is one of the most special things! <3) but i do enjoy cooking as well. this sounds cliche and probably kind of silly BUT to me, there really is something so lovely about working hard and making yourself a good meal to sit down and enjoy; i think that's a really awesome feeling and one of those small moments to cherish! i'm not sure if that'll help you find more motivation to cook, but it's one of the things that motivates me to cook and makes it rewarding n worth it!

whenever im home alone i just bake so much but then theres like no one to eat it so i have to either freeze everything or just eat an insane amount of baked goods..... over the last 3 days i made a seriously delectable lemon drizzle that turned into two bc the recipe quantities were a bit ambitious for one loaf tin so i ate one and froze one. and then i made this mutant challah hybrid bc they fucked up my delivery and half my ingredients didnt arrive so i had to adapt 😭 but its still tasty <3 today im doing amaretti biscuits my beloved and tomorrow im going to begin my experiments in making a crusty cob loaf bc i really want to figure that out. both those freeze so im just going to wait for my mum to get back and be like ok i hope you love cake and bread !!! also ive been making french hot chocolate in the morning which i dont think counts as any kind of major culinary feat but it makes me feel a bit big brained bc its just 85% chocolate, oat milk, and coconut sugar and like im sure none of that is really bad for u but it tastes so rich...um but its all ugly so i cant post pics i hate when i make stuff thats tasty but ugly so i just have to be like i know but trus tme its actually nice

plain toast with whipped cream and strawberry was probably a butchered strawberry sando, which is a type of japanese dessert sandwich which is supposed to be made with shokupan milk bread specifically and has more fruit inside that half a strawberry
it is a very sad trend I've seen on cooking related tiktoks / youtube shorts unfortunately, taking a good recipe (especially if it's "foreign" to an average american) and making a cheap version of it with no regard to what makes it good and why certain ingredients are originally used. I don't mind variations and experiment with ingredients myself, but sometimes you see stuff that's borderline making tacos using white bread
Ooh okay yeah that makes sense! They removed the sandwhich part and just popped everything on a single bread
Yeah using milk bread makes wayyy more sense that regular white bread, especially if youre pairing it with cream of some kind
Oh god yes youre right x) hispanic food where i live gets proper butchered tbh, no one seems to have knowledge on what ingredients are supposed to taste good, so i do see the 'tacos with white bread' equivalent on *professional* cooking shows it's mad
This paired with influencers making 'healthy versions' of current trendy foods that just removes a bunch of ingredients haha
