Turning a Blind Eye
With both hands gripped firmly around a particularly sharp chisel, Svaelfyr loomed over a block of pale wood that he’d positioned within his vise. Slowly, he sheared off lengths of paper-thin excess, leaving the remnants to fall into tightly coiled shavings that collected around his boots. Even with the sudden entrance of Rylen at the workshop’s door, the hrothgar didn’t so much as budge.
“Hey! Glue?” The highlander offered two words total; one in greeting, and one in request. It was perhaps the most efficient he’d ever been.
Pausing for just an instant, Svaelfyr’s eyes shot off to the side, moreso in thought than anything else. “The tall cabinet in the corner. Forth row from the top, third from the left. Or second? It should have a label.”
It didn’t; while the hrothgar had intended to organize his things, he often let himself get carried away with grander prospects. Regardless, Rylen found it before long. “Thanks!” He bellowed, and in an instant he was gone.
“What are you using it f–” Svaelfyr’s head turned just as he heard the door close once more with a heavy thud. Unbothered by that particular unanswered question, he went back to work.
Daedaena came in later in the day, a small block of wood with two rough edges, several sections splintering all over as though it were hastily removed from somewhere. Svaelfyr had since moved over to a shorter desk, where he sat in a chair, gently sanding the curves of the corbel he worked on. The lalafell almost closed the distance entirely between them as she beamed a smile. “Do you have stuff that’ll take out glue? Like solvent, or anything?” She asked, sweetly as he’d ever heard from her.
Svaelfyr once more responded without looking away from his work. “I should do. In the tall cabinet in the corner, fourth row… Wait, did Rylen glue something of yours together?” The realization stopped him in his tracks, earning his full attention. By the time he turned to look towards her, Daedaena was already dragging the nearby ladder over towards the cabinet. “Yeah. I think it was a prank, because he glued the money he said he’d give me to a table. Joke’s on him, though, I’m just going to get the glue off.”
Svaelfyr’s brows furrowed deeply in confusion at first, then concern afterward. After a brief delay, he spoke again. “Is that the money? Glued to the wood?” “Yeah. It’s a promissory note from one of the Ul’dah banks, I think.” Daedaena's pace couldn't be stopped. She was already up the ladder, and rummaging through drawers.
“Did you cut the piece of table off to bring with you?”
“Mm-hm!”
“But—”
“Because otherwise he could’ve brought his own solvent and beat me to it, then taken the money back. Don’t worry. It’s not my table.”
For a few bewildered seconds, Svaelfyr sat in silence. Electing to turn back to his project, he returned to rounding a decorative edge.

Dutch Hospital Research
Also known as the Old Colombo Dutch Hospital
Considered to be the oldest building in the Colombo Fort area dating back to the Dutch colonial era in Sri Lanka. It is now a heritage building and a shopping and dining precinct.
The ministry of crab restaurant is a particularly famous dining place
Colombo fort is the central business district in the country.
Between 1640 and 1796, a Dutch Governorate partly governed Sri Lanka - could cover the history of how this came to be
The dutch hospital is one of the three worthwhile structures that reflect the Dutch colonial style of Sri Lanka (with many structures not being preserved due to the many wars)
The Dutch East India Trading Company set this building up in 1861.
The hospital was established for the the officers and other staff of the VOC.  The hospital's close proximity to the harbour allowed it to serve Dutch seafarers
“It has been considered that it is a duty of the Company to restore the health of its officers who are on board ships as well as in the outposts”. - Sri Lanka National Archives (hereinafter SLNA) 1/2453, minutes of the Dutch Political Council (PC), dated 1 February 1669.
After Sri Lanka’s independence, the building served as a housing place for apothecaries, and afterwards functioned as the Colombo Fort Police Station from the early 1980s to 1990s.
The building also suffered heavy damage due to the LTTE bombing in 1996
In 2011 it was refurbished into the shopping and dining centre it is today
The building reflects 17th century dutch colonial architecture -
There are 5 wings that circle each other, forming two courtyards.
This architecture was created to reduce heat and humidity by bringing cool air into the building.
Thick walls: 30cm thick/over 50cm thick
Has large teak beams
There are only two floors
The upper storey features wooden floors
A long open veranda runs the length of each wing of the building
Some areas of the building feature arched colonnades - provided temperature control by blocking the direct sunlight from the interior spaces (veranda & indoors) whilst still bringing fresh air and ventilation, thus creating a comfortable, cool environment.
Featured clay barrel tile roofs
Does it have corbels?
Walls made of stone?
There used to be canals but they were filled up by the British during their rule
Can I get old maps of the dutch hospital?
Most patients were provided with a mat, while the most ill were given a mattress. Patients clothing was imported from Tuticorin, India. The surgeon with the longest service at the Colombo hospital was Alleman. Alleman sought to improve conditions at the hospital, including increasing provisions. The most famous of all the surgeons who worked in the Colombo hospital was undoubtedly Paul Hermann, who served from 1672-79. Herman has been described as the father of botany in Sri Lanka.
Paintings of the front and rear views of the Colombo hospital, done in 1771 by a Dutch artist—presumably Johannes Rach—are preserved in an institute in the Netherlands.

𝐄𝐍𝐕𝐘 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐒 𝐇𝐈𝐌𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅 𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐀 𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐇 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐄. lines of lichen occupy the cracks between the gritty slabs that appear, he imagines, like gravestones stolen from god's acre. this path guides him through the corbel arch bridge & weeping elms, their heavy branches drenched in raindrops brushing against his dark hair as he passes, soon enough to glimpse an opening just beyond their foliage; a silent boulevard filled with dark benches & white tulips, as well as a lonely boy sitting beneath a streetlamp. he appears to be reading an article, although envy does not pause long enough to pry before approaching, slowly, taking up the empty spot just beside him.
the old bench immediately creaks beneath the shifting weight, & then, silence. envy does not speak nor look his way, allowing for the near-distant rustle of wind to make sound for them instead. a soft, resonating sigh within the tresses of grass, then the crooked trees, & finally right through them, making the surrounding tulips sway as though pushed by the invisible waters. envy closes his dark eyes in that moment, seemingly sinking into the cold.

he can feel the other watching him without looking, but such action isn't unusual for a murderer.... especially one like himself. a cold, ruthless creature who only pretends to love life far more than he actually does, & without words, proves such fact by most nonchalantly leaning back against the bench, & just like that, smile wide, resting a blood-stained knife against own thigh.

Creative and Functional Kitchen Window Ideas for 2023
Natural light is essential for a well-designed kitchen. It can add visual interest to the space, help to accentuate existing design features, and enhance the overall mood of the room.
A little creative window treatment can go a long way in making the best use of natural light. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite creative and functional kitchen window ideas for 2023.
Curtains
Curtains are a creative and functional kitchen window idea that can be used to create a sense of privacy or to block out the sun. They can also add a unique style to the room depending on what materials and design they are made from.
Choosing the right color and pattern can help make the space look more spacious and brighter. You can go with light, cool colors to brighten a smaller space or dark, warm colors to make an oversized space feel more generous.
Blinds
Blinds are one of the most creative and functional kitchen window ideas that you can use to transform your space. They bring color, texture and pattern to a room, and they can also be used for privacy.
You can also use curtains for a similar purpose, however, they aren’t as practical in the kitchen.
If you are looking for something that will stand up to the daily grind of cooking, opt for durable materials such as faux wood blinds and shutters. These options are easy to wipe down and will not warp, crack or fade in the sun.
Awning
Awnings have been around for centuries and come in all shapes and sizes. These aesthetically pleasing structures are designed to protect your property from the elements, as well as provide a fun and functional way to enhance your outdoor living space.
While the most common material used for awnings is a woven fabric, they can also be made from acrylic fibres which are spun and dyed in a similar manner to wool. These fabrics offer a good balance of strength and insulation to keep your home or business toasty warm.
Corbels
Corbels can be a creative and functional kitchen window idea that is also versatile enough to be used throughout the home. They come in various shapes, sizes and materials.
The most common are wood, although polyurethane and plaster-like corbels also provide a decorative element for your kitchen.
They can add a touch of hand-carved detail to your kitchen design while supporting items that might be heavy, like a shelf or counter. They can be painted or stained to match your cabinetry.
Shelves
Kitchen shelves are a creative and functional kitchen window idea that provides storage and display space in a beautiful way. They allow you to keep ingredients, utensils and cookware within easy reach while adding a modern touch to your kitchen design.
They’re also a great solution for spaces that have small windows or are unable to fit full cabinets in. This allows you to maximize storage without losing visual space, which can be a major benefit for smaller kitchens.
Side Sconces
If you’re looking for a creative and functional kitchen window idea, side sconces might be the right choice. These simple fixtures mount flush to the wall and can add a layer of flattering light to any space, while also providing an easy way to compensate for areas that aren’t evenly lit by your overhead lighting.
A few different styles of side sconces are available, so it’s important to pick one that best suits your needs. Flush style sconces tend to have a minimalistic, pared-down aesthetic that works well in contemporary spaces.
Valances
Valances can be a creative and functional kitchen window idea that can help you achieve the look of your dream home. They can be used to cover up wall imperfections, tie in architectural elements and even conceal hardware.
A simple swag of fabric can also add a bright and decorative statement to your windows. These swags can be made of a variety of fabrics and colors.
Tie-up valances are great for a farmhouse or cottage country kitchen because they are simple and easy to care for. They are also a good option if you want to keep your windows looking neat and tidy.

Frequently Asked Questions
In the kitchen, where should a refrigerator be?
A refrigerator should be placed next to the sink for easy access. It should not block traffic, nor be too close or too far from the stove.
Where do I start when planning a kitchen?
There are many options available, no matter whether you’re remodeling an existing space or designing your dream kitchen.
Spend some time looking for inspiration online before you start. Take a look at photos of kitchens you like. Keep track of design ideas. Take some time to write down your ideas and then sit down with a pen.
Now think about how to improve on these spaces. What could you make better? What would be your contribution? Do you need to be creative? Why not ask someone who understands the topic?
Once you’ve determined what you want to do, it’s time you start. Start with the basics. Get rid of any extra clutter. Don’t keep appliances that aren’t being used frequently. Replace worn-out fixtures with new ones.
Next, take a look at areas of your kitchen that are too small. This can be as simple as looking for areas that are too small to store or have no countertops. You can think of ways to maximize these spaces. They could become wine cellars or pantries.
Don’t forget to consider lighting. Is there an area that could be lit brighter? A wall sconce might brighten up dark corners.
Once you’ve completed your list of improvements, the fun part comes: implementing them!
Don’t be discouraged if you don’t know everything the first time. You can just keep going until you have it all figured. You will never be satisfied unless you love using it every day.
What is a reasonable budget for a Metro Vancouver kitchen remodel?
Metro Vancouver kitchen remodels are feasible with a budget of $50,000. This would include new appliances, countertops and cabinets, flooring, as well as lighting.
Can you DIY a Kitchen Renovation
Do you want to renovate your kitchen? While the answer is yes, there are some things that you need to keep in mind.
First, a kitchen remodeling project can be very time-consuming. Before you start, it is important to be proficient in plumbing and carpentry. You will also need to determine what parts of the kitchen you wish to modify, including adding storage space, replacing outdated appliances, and improving lighting.
Once you’ve planned your kitchen renovation, it’s time to start shopping for materials. You will need to make a decision about cabinets, countertops, flooring and appliances.
This is an excellent idea. This will allow for you to decide how much space you require and what layout would work best in the kitchen.
You have many options when it comes down to cabinets. You can choose from ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets or custom cabinets. RTA cabinets come in various styles and colours and are usually less expensive than custom cabinets.
It is essential that you ensure safety and security during large-scale renovations. You may want to look into the local building codes in order to make sure that you are compliant with any renovations.
You may feel tempted to tackle large-scale renovations on your own. However, professional help is highly recommended. A qualified contractor will help you save both money and time. Plus, working alongside a professional will ensure that your project runs smoothly.
What is the first step when designing a kitchen remodel?
This is a difficult question to answer because every kitchen remodeling project is different. Each one will require a different approach. It is essential to have a clear understanding of your unique goals and needs before designing a new kitchen.
This may involve meeting with a professional designer or architect to discuss your ideas, taking measurements of your current kitchen space, and/or creating a mood board or inspiration folder with images of kitchens that appeal to you.
Once you have a sense of what you want, it is time to start planning your budget. Finally, creating a timeline for your kitchen renovation is crucial to stay on track and avoiding any stressful surprises.
If you’re working with a professional kitchen designer or architect, they will likely take the lead in the design planning process. However, it’s still vital that you are clear about your goals and needs from the start. This will ensure that the final design meets your expectations and that the result is satisfying.
Take into account the area of your kitchen, such as its square footage and the dimensions for individual areas, such as countertops, cabinets or appliances. It would be best if you also noted any existing structural elements that cannot be removed, such as support beams or load-bearing walls. If possible, it can be helpful to create a floor plan layout so that you can visualize how the new design will come together.
An inspiration folder or mood board is a great way to narrow down your ideas for kitchen design. Pinterest is a fantastic resource for finding kitchen images you love. You can also pull out pages of magazines and collect paint chips or fabric swatches. These will serve as a reference point when you start planning your renovation.
Once you have a clear idea of how your new kitchen should look, it’s time for you to begin thinking about the timeline and budget. What budget are you willing and able to spend? What are your must and desirable-to-haves? When is the renovation due to be complete? Answering these questions will allow you to move forward in your planning process.
You’ll need to include the cost of materials such as cabinets, countertops and appliances if you decide to remodel your kitchen. The project’s time frame and potential disruptions to your life will also need to be considered. If you hire a contractor to complete the renovation, they will likely give you a detailed quote that includes all costs as well as a timeline.
To keep the project on track and avoid unexpected delays, you need to set a timeline. Once you have an idea about when each step should take place, you will be able to begin to plan a more detailed schedule. You should allow for some flexibility to accommodate unexpected delays.
Following these steps can help you develop a plan to renovate your kitchen. This will ensure you get the kitchen you have always wanted and that the whole process runs smoothly.
What are the drawbacks of an open-concept cooking style?
Privacy is the biggest issue. An open-concept kitchen means guests can see the mess. You might also find that guests may be disturbed by the smells of cooking. If there is no designated cooking or eating area, an open kitchen can be difficult to clean. Lastly, an open-concept kitchen may not be your best option if you don’t have much square footage.
What are the steps to remodelling a kitchen?
Plan your kitchen remodel. Decide on what you want, and how much.
Find a contractor. Compare bids from different contractors to find the one you feel most comfortable.
Demolition. This is the fun bit! Rip out the old cabinets, countertops, and appliances.
Installation. Installation.
Finishing touches. You can complete your kitchen remodel by adding finishing touches like new hardware or paint.
Statistics
According to Burgin, some hinges have this feature built-in, but it’s an add-on cost for other models of about $5 retail, adding up to $350 to $500 for an entire kitchen, depending on size. (hgtv.com)
Followed by cabinet cost, labour, and appliance costs consume 20 percent each of your budget. (hgtv.com)
Your most significant cost investment for a kitchen remodel will usually be cabinets, typically comprising 25 percent of your budget. (hgtv.com)
In large firms, the commission charged by the GC ranges from 15 to 25 percent of the total job cost. (thespruce.com)
Experts also recommend setting aside 20 percent of your budget for surprises, including unpleasant demolition discoveries. One is water damage, the electricity that is not up to code, or other budget-spiking gotchas. (hgtv.com)

Warlike mycenaean art
Tumblr media
A large grave site, known as Grave Circle A, is also built within the walls. Inside the walls are various rooms for administration and storage along with palace quarters, living spaces, and temples. The site’s megaron sits on the highest part of the acropolis and is reached through a large staircase. It overlooks the Argos plain on the Peloponnesian peninsula, and according to Greek mythology was the home to King Agamemnon. The citadel site of Mycenae was the center of Mycenaean culture. Deep water wells, storage rooms, and open space for livestock and additional citizens allowed a city to access basic needs while being protected during times of war. Since citadels had to protect the area’s people in times of warfare, the sites were equipped for sieges. Entrance to the site was through one or two large gates, and the pathway into the main part of the citadel was often controlled by more gates or narrow passageways. In addition to thick walls, the sites were protected by controlled access. The architectural plan of the megaron became the basic shape of Greek temples, demonstrating the cultural shift as the gods of ancient Greece took the place of the Mycenaean rulers.Ĭitadel sites were protected from invasion through natural and man-made fortification. It contained a more or less central open hearth, which was vented though an oculus in the roof above it and surrounded by four columns. The megaron was a rectangular hall, fronted by an open, two-columned porch. Mycenaean citadel sites were centered around the megaron, a reception area for the king. The corbel arch was often used by the Mycenaeans in conjunction with a relieving triangle, which was a triangular block of stone that fit into the recess of the corbeled arch and helped to redistribute weight from the lintel to the supporting walls. The corbel arch is constructed by offsetting successive courses of stone (or brick) at the springline of the walls so that they project towards the archway’s center from each supporting side, until the courses meet at the apex of the archway (often, the last gap is bridged with a flat stone). Therefore, a corbeled (or corbel) arch is employed over doorways to relieve the weight on the lintel. A typical post and lintel structure is not strong enough to support the heavy structures built above it. The Mycenaeans also relied on new techniques of building to create supportive archways and vaults. Corbel ArchĬorbeled vault, Tiryns: This photo shows the offsetting successive courses of stone at the springline of the walls so that they project towards the archway’s center from each supporting side, until the courses meet at the apex of the archway. The thick Cyclopean walls reflect a need for protection and self-defense since these walls often encircled the citadel site and the acropolis on which the site was located. Due to this ancient belief, the use of large, roughly cut, ashlar blocks in building is referred to as Cyclopean masonry. The blocks were considered too large to be moved by humans and were believed by ancient Greeks to have been erected by the Cyclopes-one-eyed giants. The walls of Mycenaean citadel sites were often built with ashlar and massive stone blocks. The citadels vary from city to city but each share common attributes, including building techniques and architectural features. The Mycenaeans populated Greece and built citadels on high, rocky outcroppings that provided natural fortification and overlooked the plains used for farming and raising livestock. Mycenaean culture can be summarized by its architecture, whose remains demonstrate the Mycenaeans’ war-like culture and the dominance of citadel sites ruled by a single ruler. The art and architecture of Mycenaean citadel sites reflects the society’s war-like culture and its constant need for protection and fortification. Nadene and Sam this 1832 pub into a stunningly unique home in England. Nadene said when they first saw it, it had miles of Formica laminate on walls and surfaces, so it wasn’t exactly her dream house.
Tumblr media
We begin the tour on the ground floor. They exposed a sandstone fireplace in the dining room.
Tumblr media
Nadene found the oval 60s teak dining table in a local charity shop and the couple have surrounded it with deep, green leather nightclub swivel chairs from eBay. A French glass-fronted and sided linen cabinet displays Nadene’s eclectic collection of glassware.
Tumblr media
The kitchen features gray cabinets and block beech wood surfaces. Two porthole windows face out and have been cleverly lit with blue LEDs.
Tumblr media
Due to the lack of a period feel, Nadene and Sam decided to opt for a relaxed vibe on the ground floor including a 70s record player and deco cocktail cabinet.
Tumblr media
Nadene painted the Art Deco cocktail cabinet red.
Tumblr media
On the main floor the drawing room ceiling is papered with American tin tile wallpaper.
Tumblr media
In the old fireplace stands a lovely antique stove.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the walls of the drawing room are a superb Alan Rankle landscape and a big Stuart Duff limited edition of a snub-nosed Smith & Wesson
Tumblr media
The loo itself is superb. Nadene had always wanted to paint a room black and decided this was the one.
Tumblr media
Centerpiece of the first landing is a heavy Victorian mirror on an Italian half-console flanked by Victorian corbels.
Tumblr media
On the top floor, a spare bedroom is divided into a sitting room with a hideaway bed tucked up in the eaves
Tumblr media
The house is full of beautiful artwork.
Tumblr media
The double bed and the bunk bed above it were made from the same wood as Nadene and Sam’s own bed.
Tumblr media
Nadene and Sam’s raised bed, accessed by a mini staircase, offers enviable views out to sea.
Tumblr media
The ceiling above the bay window has been painted with clouds and sky and beneath it is a tailor’s dummy in an antique smoking jacket and top hat.
Tumblr media
On the wall are mounted two seven-foot high ‘tablets’ of the ten commandments reclaimed from a church.
Tumblr media
To reach the bath, one has to climb to a gallery, with banisters and ceiling painstakingly copper-leafed by Nadene’s artist friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The window is, at first sight, stained glass but it is actually made from a collection of vintage glass plate travel photographs.
Tumblr media
The whole bathroom has been modelled around Nadene’s magnificent copper bath.
Tumblr media
A door in one corner of the lobby leads into a superb wet room, tiled in silver slate, allowing Nadene and Sam to come straight off the beach and through into the shower.
Tumblr media
Wooden panels used to line the shower and portions of the bathroom walls are actually ceramic tiles.

The poo-house is nearly complete now.
The guys have been working full-throttle through the first Irish heat wave EVER. (You can’t get anyone to believe that it isn’t really all that HOT, as it’s only about 75 to 80 degrees - but folks here are not used to actual warmth and daylight. They are ending up in the ER with third degree sunburns and drowning themselves in loughs.)
We’ve managed to keep the lads supplied with all necessary materials - driving all over the country and maxing out my credit cards, buying lumber, floor boards and wood for the ceiling.
Today I drive to Sligo and (hopefully) pick up the completed glass panels for the missing windows. I wanted to support the elderly guy who did the glass for the schoolhouse, by placing the order with him - this was a mistake. He has promised completion for three weeks now, and actually went away on vacation for a week in the middle - he is dithery, ineffectual, and lies to me outright. I can’t understand how this is acceptable in a business situation, but that’s life here in the fast lane…
The floors were laid yesterday. Ray’s Architectural Salvage quoted me £3600 for reclaimed pitch-pine, €2300 for reclaimed pine flooring - and I bought new pine 6 x 1’s from McHales Lumber in Sligo for €360. They are not completely dry or seasoned, so I told Pat to nail the fuck out of them and let them shrink up over time. They are rough and delightful.
The old arched window went in over the stone, and looks brilliant. The antique slates are PERFECT, and the added roof along the back stone wall is a great solution to firming up the entire building. Pat had thrown up some sheets of bent galvanized metal to shunt rainwater away from the wall - but this was stupid and careless - we had a serious chat, and it’s now being handled in a way that is harmonious with the quality and integrity of the structure itself.
He has provided a fabulous old door from his shed-horde, and Dermott cut dipsy-doodles into the ends of the fascia along the roofline - a nod to the shape of the corbels of the schoolhouse itself. He then doubled-down on WHIMSY, and cut two peculiar shapes to cover the joins at the peak. When I asked him what they were about, he shrugged and said “maybe they’re hobbits?” Alrighty then. This has allowed me insight to who Dermott may be on the inside (I asked about the tattoo he has on his right forearm. “It says “I am not here to just take up space” - in Irish. My mom always used to tell me that.”) I said that she must have been a very wise woman.
Little Pat got stung by a spider day before yesterday. He and Pat asked me what I thought about his wrist yesterday morning - and Pat kept saying “it’s just poison ivy.” The poor kids forearm was swollen and hard as a rock - “you are going to see a doctor RIGHT NOW” I told him. “This is blood poisoning, and I’m calling the clinic “ I did, explained the situation - and gawd-bless the Manorhamilton health center - they saw him within the hour. Antihistamines, cellulitis, and arm in a sling. It can turn to sepsis in a heartbeat - so crisis averted thanks to the good doctors who got on top of it in time.
Apparently on top of providing endless pitchers of ice water, cold beers at the end of the days, and snacks - I’m also the designated mommy? Weird. But OK?
The fireplace will be the icing on the cake. It is completely lovely and will be the heart of the building. It has yet to be installed, and I told Pat that he has only two things to achieve - “Don’t burn the house down. Keep me from freezing in the winter” He promised to do both.
It is a building beyond all my happiest hopes. It is so much better than anything I had in my head, or in my humble sketches. I do believe that even though the work has been SO hard, that the guys are actually enjoying the making of it? Dermott and his completely unnecessary little cut-outs yesterday - let me see through the heavy labor and into the spirit of its builders. They are heroes, and I hope to do them honor by filling the space they made for me with beauty and love.
I am the proud recipient of their great gift.

'Palladio' clothing store - Philadelphia, PA - McDowell Associates (1990)
"The clients had recently returned from Italy and wanted to capture qualities of the northern Italian villas designed by Andrea Palladio in their new retail store. Since one of the owners is a film producer — the opportunity to create an image of Palladio as a stage set seemed appropriate. And thus, using primarily Palladian architectural elements like Ionic columns, arches, anaglypta, rosettes, coffered ceilings and corbels supporting molding enriched entablatures — the theatrical setting came into being.
The traffic aisle is covered with faience, handmade ceramic tiles and the walls are sponged and stippled for a stone-like finish. The long, narrow space is divided by "crumbling" walls and the merchandise is presented either in arched over wall cabinets or on long, verde-gris rods set between the textured wall and the "broken" and unbroken columns that support the coffered ceiling. This area is floored with black vinyl. Floating over the dropped white ceiling is a blue, cloud-filled sky — illuminated from above. A frieze bearing the store name inscribed in gold leaf is capped with a heavy molding/cornice and it travels the length of the shop. The cash/wrap desk is purely architectural in concept and in construction. Spots, on tracks, light up the merchandise displayed on the floor and on the hang rods. The arched cabinets that flank the right hand wall are self illuminated. Beyond the classic square opening in the rear are the dressing rooms. The designer had three weeks for design and construction documentation and only six weeks for the actual construction/installation. The designer, William McDowell, says that contributed to the stage-like quality of the design.”
Great example of the ‘Pomo Faux Ruins’ style popular in the 70s-90s.
Scanned from ‘Stores of the Year 6′ (1991)

Bon dia!
In the night, Serem ocells, Sta guai, Més likes, Cançó de l’aire.
Maria Arnal i Marcel Bagés: a mi personalment m’agraden molt.
Frida: Volant, Dóna-li color.
Roba Estesa: Sense por, La reina mora, Viu, Una altra ronda...
Espero haver sigut d’ajuda!

- Why’d I choose my username: When I opened this account I was pretty insecure and tried to incorporate my name in any username/handle; to “raise cain“ means to make trouble and I was curious as to if I would prove myself right or wrong in that regard.
- Following: 65. Wow, I need to be more social.
- Average amount of sleep: without meds, two hours; with meds, twelve and perhaps an afternoon nap.
- Lucky number: No idea. I think 2 is a cool one since it’s the only even prime.
- What I’m wearing: Same as when I went to bed yesterday; black skinny jeans, a black Amnesty International tee, one orange sock and one sock with stripes of green, blue, purple and gray. My glasses, two studded leather bracelets and my beloved headphones.
- Dream job: Published writer, artist or that guy who plants roof gardens.
- Dream trip: I’d like to take my closest friends to New Zealand, or perhaps the mountains near Grindelwald in Switzerland.
- Favorite food: Falafel! Falafel and more Falafel! Served with the real thin pittas, white turnips pickled in beet juice, hummus and aubergine. Vietnamese Gỏi cuốn with tofu and mushrooms are also great.
- Play any instruments? : Yep. I sing and do soprano vocals, I play the piano, flute, a bit of bass and percussion and this weird Swedish instrument called mungiga.
- Eye color: Stone gray that sometimes looks green or blue.
- Hair color: Reddish auburn and dark brown
- Languages you can speak: Swedish, English, okay German and a bit of Yiddish
- Most iconic song: Another One Bites the Dust by Queen perhaps?
- Random fact: The leaves of the weed Greater Plantain are good for band-aids as they contain an enzyme that speeds up the tissue healing process.
- Describe yourself as aesthetic things: odd socks, huge rainbow umbrella, flower crowns, metal studs, activist pins, home altered punkish clothes, having a cat sleep on your tummy, dandelion puffs, colorful shoelaces, playing every public piano available, heavy gray clouds, photographs with too high contrast, paper cranes, snails and flofles, chaotic art space, tampering with your headphones, having a Pride celebration marathon, trying not to come off as pretentious, being nice is metal as fuck.
