These aren't full ref sheets but I was trying to take some clear pictures of Hephaistos for later art reasons and then got side tracked doing all of the Pandaemonium bosses so here they are in order. Also for anyone following who doesn't play FFXIV and knows it as the catgirl game, enjoy this instead? VISUAL SPOILERS obviously.

To be brutally honest I never really liked either of these designs compared to every other Hemitheos we get, I think the really brutal black and red of the Phoinix is weakened by gold accents, but I still am always down for gay vampire surf rock. The Savage version kind of looks like Ultimalius as well if you've played XVI.

^ My favourite detail on this is you can see the parasite's outlines in her robes and in her legs, then right through the eye holes on the mask to wrap around the torso. I'm convinced this version of Hegemone is functionally an ant being piloted by a cordyceps infection.

I'm probably biased by Abyssos being the first raid I was there for day of release but these really are all fantastic. It's also when the story abandons all pretense of not being (at least partly) about family abuse and is loudly using the body horror and shackle motifs to talk about that. It's great. Hephaistos specifically is constantly bulging and twisting in and out of different forms like a highly unstable chimera and the more I look at these the more I notice parts that just should not be there. He's giving everything.

As for the Savage design It's a hard thing to rate as such but my favourite part is the veins that grow down from the eyeholes in his mask like bloody tears.

It's really hard to communicate how huge this nasty tumor crab I zoomed out as far as physically possible in the game engine and subsequently ended up at a goofy angle staring up his nose.

Ephemeral Justice: Themis

Best boy. The double ended lance and second pair of arms are fantastic for this character.

Theos: Athena

In.. almost every final fantasy adventure you're fighting the real villain not at the very end but a little beforehand, the big iconic end boss is often more a metaphorical figure representing everything wrong with that first person's ideals. Athena cut out the middle man and became her own JENOVA.

I do like the moth angel, especially the hollow body full of dubious orbs, but with her eyes closed all the time it gives off the impression of this not even being the true body but some kind of anglerfish lure in the shape of a fairy... which might be true because this exists:

I really really love her twitchy anemone feelers and how the moth body ends up grafted to the rest of it waist down.

Anyway there's the gang I did not specifically intend for this to be design reviews I just wanted to have clear photos because when you actually see them in game there's other things to focus on. In hindsight I can appreciate more the theming of each tier and then the series as a whole, but my only (extremely obvious) observation for now is that every character Athena had a personal hold over is decorated in chains somehow and so I should have seen the Hegemone thing coming lmao. Heph and Aggy are still my favourites I don't think that's changing any time soon. I'm also noticing that Anabaseios is now just old enough for random DF parties to fuck up severely and I find that fun so I'm going to go fight the crab mansion now.

Hien in trunks. Aymeric in trunks and a light swimming jacket. Haurchefant unleashed in a speedo. Zenos fighting the kraken in the middle of the ocean. Hythlodaeus getting a tan neath a parasol with sunglasses. Emet-Selch grumpily administrating suntan lotion. Hermes teaching Meteion to swim in the ocean. Raubahn and Thancred grilling up a banquet.

Godbert sculpting a mighty sand sculpture in his image. Opposite of him Ysayle and Menphina work to make ice sculptures. While, Theliak, Kan-E-Senna, Leveva, and Urianger read their books in their chairs. Nophica, Merlwyb, Lyse, Fordola, and Ardbert getting into a watermelon crushing competition. Yotsuyu being fanned by Grynewaht and sipping from a cocktail glass. Hilda, Lyna, Joye, Wuk Lamat and Ameliance race through the sand. Alisaie with Alphinaud in a headlock dragging him towards the waves for the annual swimming practice. Fourchenault, Azeyma and Y'shtola are on lifeguard duty. Asahi drowned in the corner. Fandaniel mocking him by dead man floating next to him. Jannequinard also has drowned but is posing dramatically even while out of commission. Nald and Thal watch over them bemused.

Cid, Nero, Biggs, Wedge, and Jesse getting the water slide going. Alpha, Gigi, Sylphie, Gatty and Omega building their own sandcastle as Zero and Golbez enjoy their own beach size beverage. Estinien posing dramatically on top of Godbert's sand statue. Tataru, Chai-Nuzz and Papalymo going over the logistics of the beach visit's costs. As Krile paints the ocean view while being hyped up by Dulia-Chai. Jandelaine is doing face paintings.

Kai-Shirr Nashu and Brandihild burying Hildibrand up to his neck in sand. Stephanivien inventing a new watergonne for summer time joy. Fray and Sid brood in the corner trying their best not to join in the summer fun. While Rielle, Ryne, and Gaia sample tropical fruits. Lahabrea, Themis, and Erichothonis look on exasperated as Athena builds a giant moth mecha to attack the Beach Bash. And by build I mean she is super vising from a well shaded and high position while Hesperos and Agdistis do it for her. Hegemone serving as her butler. Yugiri and Gosetsu are judges for the watermelon crushing competition. Gaius is tiredly looking on as Rex, Alfonse, Milisandia, Allie, and Ricon play volleyball against Livia, Rhitahtyn, Varro, Lyon, Gabranth, and Misija. Varis and Hydrus wander across the sand judging the volley ball match. Baderon, Mother Miuonne, and Momodi referee the match. Wilred, Emmannellain, Artoriel, Honoriot, and Cyella run commentary.

F'lhaminn, Alianne Gilbrillont, and Buscarron serve up drinks to Thordan, G'raha and Edmont as they swap old man stories. Nymia and Althyk ease drop over their own drinks. While the Heavens Ward wait their turn to play volleyball against Mitron, Nabriales, Venat, Altima, Pashtarot, Deudalaphon, Igeyorhm, Halmarut, and Emmerololth.

Julyan Manderville and Halone are hunting down Hamon Holyfist for acting inappropriate. Wyrnzoen, Curious Gorge, Broken Mountain, Dorgono, Rurukuta, Chuchuto, Widgargelt, O'tchakha and D'zentsa hold a booth for punching a bag as hard as you can. While Byregot administrates Beatin, Brithael, H'naanza, Serendipity, Geva, Redolent Rose, Severian, Adalberta, and Fufucha working together to gather the materials and create more stands and bags since Eorzea is made up of martial gods who keep breaking the punching bag and the stand. Moenbryda has the highest record of breaking it.

Oschon, Cirina, Magnai, Luciane and Sadu aid Sisipu and Lyngsath in catching the food required to run this entire operation with Llymaelyn's express approval. While the Wheiskaet and his Company of Heroes guard the establishment. Ilberd, Laurentius, Yuyuhase, V'kebbe, Perimu and H'raha have a dart throwing competition. Ywain, Myella, Jacke, Karasu, Momozigo, and Drusilla are in the middle of a game of poker.

Jenlyns, Radovan, and Sanson swap tales, the Troupe Falsiam, Guydelot, and Jehantel aid the Songbirds for entertainment. Sophie and Erenville are handing out fashion show fliers. Runar, Y'mhitra, Tesleen, Cymet, Almet, and Uimet administrate parasols, seatings, and food to keep everyone comfortable from the heat of the sun. Seto along with Magnus and his gang work to ferry people to and from the beach. With K'lyhia, Surito, E-Sumi-Yan, and Cocobuki figuring out a schedule to keep everyone on task. X'rhun, Arya, and Martyn run a magic show with plenty of rapiers and surprises. Rhaglr watches over Arenvald and Hoary Boulder arm wrestling with Coultenant, Aenor, and Clemence cheering them on.

Midgardsormr, Nidhogg, Hraesvelgr, Azdaja, Tiamat and Bahamut watch this go on with amusement. As Vrtra is sending out reports and orders to Nidhana and her alchemists along with Ahewann and the Radiant Host aid in the security of the event.

And of course, there is the Warrior of Light. Enjoying their vacation...or they would if the REVELRY HADN'T SUMMONED SUSANOO TO JOIN IN!!!!!! NEVER A DAY OFF I TELL YOU! NOW THEY GOTTA DEAL WITH A PRIMAL PARTYING ALONG!

what the fuck is up i have some thoughts about hesperos and how much of him was/wasnt corrupted by hephaistos and how it would not influence his true form very much imo that bsky's character limit would not be able to handle. so here we go. stream of consciousness it is.

so ime the thing that makes hesperos stand out from the other keywardens is the fact that the vrykolakas is really well integrated into him, to the point that it's even pointed out (by themis iirc?? i forger). the protag gang worries that the other keywardens will also have their creations very well integrated but like. they do not. theyre super fucked up and slipshod. agdistis got entirely absorbed by hers and can barely keep a focused thought, while hegemone has a parasite grafted onto her that is so easy to affix, she can spread it to the wol at will.

to me this is caused by two things. the first being hesperos being the first, or at least the most delicate of experimentation that hephaistos did (and is that too not a type of yaoi. is it not a kind of gay sex to very carefully tinker about in your coworker's soul. anyways,) and he got either a lot of time or a lot of attention. or both. the second being, hesperos is super keen on leaning into his role as not only a hemitheos but also a vampire. the man is pumped to be a vampire, while adgistis seems unaware that she's a tree now and hegemone makes nothing of being snakey. this is to say: hesperos's status as a hemitheos was something he either had a hand in choosing for himself and/or actively leaned into once it was chosen.

b/c of this, there's less of a 'corruption' or 'changing' his desires per se, and just taking the things he does want (lahabrea's attention, to be a cool fun vampire, to put on a play) and maxing them out to 11. he has nuked all ability for moderation or self restraint, since auracite's function is to amplify desires. none of thise things were alien to him before, and he does still retain some things from his implied personality as a keywarden that the journal points out (that hesperos was a careful caretaker of subjects, hes still the one organizing environments for those subjects to be comfortable and powerful in while they kill you, and he says a few times he's going to feed you to them. like that is a way of looking out for them, eh?) and his admiration(love) for lahabrea.

there is also very heavily implied that his flamboyance is... not new whatsoever. erich doesn't comment on it at all unlike how he points out the other personality difference, and hesperos's fight mechanics only somewhat lean into the vampirism theme at the beginning: he is super duper intent on making you actors in a play. the actual alteration that he was given as a hemitheos is vampirism and just making his desires Impossible To Tone Down. and these desires are He Wants To Fuck His Boss and He Wants To Put On A Play. pre-pinax is 'setting the stage', his bloodrake (which is ostensibly vampirism themed) gives you 'role call' and 'miscast' (which i read as miscast as in poorly cast for the role, not mis-cast as in fucked up casting the incantation), one of his weapon casts is 'director's belone' and the entire phase 2 is A Play that he states he'd prepared (presumably for his own artistic efforts before pandae became a raid series, meaning this is a hobby for him).

so what im saying is essentially that hesperos is super lucid compared to the other wardens, and making pretty logical decisions from his standpoint, it's just that his standpoint is that he is physically incapable of ignoring or toning down his own desires. sorry, erich, but in terms of his desires you have to be expendable. (its my personal hc that hesperos was just dismissive and an ass to erich because he was intent on hurting him and getting him to leave, while sane hesperos would not be quite so harsh. obv.)

what that means for his true form is that genuinely i do not think his pre-hemitheos form would be very different from his auracite true form. there's really absolutely nothing in the phase 2 fight that alludes to vampirism, which is the center of his transformation and that means that any other changes would simply be from the auracite's amplification of desire. meaning, before raids his true form if it underwent any changes would just have been more toned down. quite possibly with his face more hidden like many of the other ancients or like, not with his tits out and the fuckin. line of sight design that goes from face to tits to dick. but he prolly would have also been just as bird themed and probably quite humanoid in face and body layout. just like. maybe hes also got a shirt on LMAO since in terms of "corruption" it was less "make your awareness and desires go sideways or all fucked up and you get One Fixation" like most everyone else it was just "VERY LOUD EVERYTHING YOU WANT IS SO LOUD YOU WANTED IT BEFORE NOW ITS JUST SOOOOOOOO LOUD"
