The wayward astronaut had walked into the room right as the mechanic was rubbing a palm hard into his own eyes, and, very familiar with post-space headaches of his own, John had immediately recognised the gesture. "Want me to find you a couple of aspirin from the medkit?"

If John saw The Mechanic flinch in surprise at being caught in a moment of weakness, no he didn't. He did not see the way his hands flew away from his face as though he'd been burnt, nor did he see the way his back straightened at the sound of another person in the room.

He absolutely did not see the fleeting, pained grimace on The Mechanic's face at yet another headache. What was it now? The third time in two days? They were getting increasingly intense too...

"Yes, it's a headache."

Usually, he'd refuse to acknowledge the pain, especially in the presence of others. But John caught him when he was a touch too tired to maintain his aloofness and keep his walls up. Plus, the proposal of aspirin to take the edge off really appealed.
