Splitting her time between Houston and Austin, @spratx says Emily Ding's ambition and drive are "only matched by her fanatical devotion to the visual arts and care for all creatures." Born to two hard working Chinese immigrants Ding's alluring work also reflects a depth of emotion and experience. Touched on a deeply personal level by ecological destruction, Austin-based Helena Martin, like Ding, finds inspiration for her work in the flora and fauna of the world and hopes her work makes others more environmentally sensitive. In 2017, in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, Ding and Martin brought some calm back to the Houston community with this collaboration on Lyons Ave at @SaintArnoldBrewing for @HUEMuralFest .  @_emilyding/  @helena_paints/

"LONGHORN"

Based in Austin, Helena Martin's colorful portraiture and paintings of flora and fauna are increasingly recognizable across the US and abroad. Navigating between murals and gallery work Martin says the public murals are "wonderful because they can be enjoyed by a much wider audience" and she also has an appreciation for the functionality of painting on surfaces already "being used for a specific purpose.” Texas longhorns are one of the most important symbols in the state—and nowhere more than Austin where they represent the beloved sports teams of the University of Texas. Over Christmas of 2017 Helena joined with @SprATX creative agency and spent several cold and wet days adding this new longhorn on S Lamar Blvd at @LamarUnionPlaza .  @helena_paints/
