What the fuck just happened. So this van with the Autism Speaks logo just drove through my hometown, blaring this annoying as hell bell sound super loud, collecting donations. I'm currently collecting all the flyers and posters they put up so I can burn them. Do you know what what was or are you confused too?

I am just as confused as you are, but I’m afraid I’m not super surprised.

See, this is how you know that Autism Speaks does not give one-eighth of shit about autistic people. If they did, they would not choose a SUPER LOUD BELL to advertise their truck, thereby alienating anyone on the spectrum with auditory processing issues. I’m guessing these drivers are just targeting either the parents of autistic children or people that are ignorant to their discrimination.

If I actually wanted to give Autism Speaks that much credit, I’d even say that they did that on purpose so that 1) it would keep actual autistic people from calling them out, and 2) to have more of a chance of causing a meltdown, which would drive up their donations. I can imagine some middle-aged lady giving a stimming, upset child a side-eye and then whispering the crowd, “We want to keep things like this from happening.”

If you happen to take a picture of you burning those god-awful flyers, would you mind sending it to me? That would heal my soul on so many levels.

I hope you’re doing okay, man. Hopefully that helltruck will stay out of your neighborhood/street/general area.
