When you have #Benin royalty visiting 👑🌍🇳🇬 @Victorsozaboy After a lovely brunch a tour of fellow artist #SimoneLeigh’s breathtaking sculpture #Brickhouse & the Vessel #HudsonYards, #AfricanSpirits @yossimilo Victor in front of fellow #NigerianArtist #JDOkhaiOjeikere’s “Hairstyles,” 1970-75. Followed by a stop at @skoto_gallery to view more #ContemporaryAfricanArt #VictorEhikhamenor gifted me his book “A Biography of The Forgotten”. He has been described as "undeniably one of Africa’s most innovative contemporary artists" & one of "42 African Innovators to Watch".  No surprise he was chosen 2017 w @Peju_Alatise to represent #Nigeria in their 1st #VeniceBiennale pavilion. I included Victor in a major group exhibition I curated 2017 @MoCADA w @NelsonMakamo #DerrickAdams etc A renown writer & multidisciplinary artist fr Edo State with a BA degree in English & Literary Studies fr Ambrose Ali University & an MS in Technology Management & a MFA in Creative Writing fr Uni Of Maryland.   He has been prolific in producing abstract, symbolic & politically motivated works w unmistakable ties to his old #BeninKingdom background. His works are influenced by the duality of African traditional religion & the interception of Western beliefs, memories & nostalgia. His symbols & motifs are reminiscent of his childhood village shrines art drawn by women.   As a writer, he has published numerous fiction & critical essays w academic journals, mainstream magazines & newspapers fr around the world including: NY Times, CNN Online, Washington Post etc His art & photographs have been used for editorials as well as book covers by award winning authors like @Chimamanda_Adichie #HelonHabila #ChikaUnigwe #ToniKan etc. His book 'EXCUSE ME!' -a satirical creative non-fiction view of life as an African both at home & abroad is a recommended text in 2 Nigerian universities. He is also the founder & artistic director of @AngelsAndMuse a Thought laboratory in #Lagos facilitating cross-disciplinary conversations on art, literature & culture. #nigerianart #africanart #artlagos #ife #bini #yoruba #beninart #edonation #edostate #artlovers #artadvisory @desti.knee #destineeross & #joakimvonditmar (at Hudson Yards New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1eMEUlF5n4/?igshid=1lmzk270wmi10

@inspirit_pages with A P R I L Happy new month! Here it is, my potential TBR for April. Can you guess what my reading theme for this month is? Yup! Books by african authors. . . . I will be paying homage to my continent this month and will read only books written by african authors - male, female and of any genre, as long as it is written by an african, I'll read it. There are sooo many titles I've been itching to pick up, some of them are not pictured here, but I will read as many as I can. I am excited to start and you can follow my african reads and recommendations with the hashtag #MyAfricaApril 🤗 . . . Are there any books by African authors you want to recommend? Do you have any favourites from the stack? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #bookstagram #goodblackreads #africanauthors #africanliterature #bookstack #childrenofbloodandbone #tomiadeyemi #patchwork #ellenbandaaaku #allournames #dinawmangestu #nervousconditions #tsitsidangarembga #measuringtime #helonhabila #thefishermen #chigozieobioma #tomorrowillbetwenty #alainmabanckou #idonotcometoyoubychance #adaobitricia #thebeautifulthingsthatheavenbears #thebrideprice #buchiemecheta #staywithme #ayobamiadebayo #daughterswhowalkthispath #yejidekilanko
