I think the Wolf 359 fandom made a catastrophic error when we all decided to collectively forget about Kepler's completely canonical funk band as if it isn't the most batshit funniest thing ever

i love that kepler is frequently generous and respectful and genuinely considerate of other people and ppl are like 'HES ONLY DOING IT TO MANIPULATE THEM', which yes, but the alternative is just characters who are sincerely dicks to each other all the goddamn time

Finished drawing my character designs/ line up of the Light Fingers Crew to formalize my drawing of them

For all the designs I used the art given for them in the game as a starting point and then went from there. For all but Hephaesta of course that means using a non character specific art. I also wanted all the colors to sort of fit together so where i would have done more vibrant stuff and i strayed away from that.

Clara and Her Sister

Putting the discussion for these two together, as their designs recieved similar thoughts because they are identical twins. ('She is wearing the Fading Music-Hall Singer's face, which seems rude.')

The basic art of the bohemian faction is used to depict the sisters.

So this was my basic starting point for the visual design. I ended up diving further into research into bohemian fashion, which of course lead to me reading up on the history of the term and the connection to the Romani people. According to wikipedia, the word comes from the french term 'bohémien', which was the word for the Romani people.

This of course put a complex spin when i looked into the clothing used in the time, as theres a question between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation, and one I don't have the full understanding for.

Nevertheless i did take some inspirtation for the clothing here, Clara with having her hair loose and down and looser clothing, the singer with the hair scarf and the necklace among some inspirations.

Inbetween the two I imagine the singers appearance to be more reserved then Clarabelle's. For one, my interpretation of the singer is as someone who uses her singing as a backdrop for sneaking and gathering information (per her role as a 'contact' of the player). The other being that we are told Clara's title is the 'eccentric opera singer' to me implies a grander sense of creatativity and wilder clothing. In less stressful times I imagine her wearing brighter clashing colours and skirts with patterns on them and jewlery (which i intend to draw at a later time when i get better at adding patterns to clothes lol).

We also know the two of them are 'not young' so i attempted to not make them appear so.

Hephaesta

Heph is of course the one character of the group with a personalized art, which i used as the base for my design.

Hephaesta is supposed to be a large figure, as she is a strongwoman, and is described as towering over even jasper and frank. So of course I had to make her tall compared to the others of the group.

And of course i can't go without bringing up Katie Sandwina (again), a real strongwomen of the time who serves as a great inspiration both in body type and height.

What a woman huh.

Dr Vaughan

The Campaigner template art was the one used to depict her when you first speak to her and was a starting point here.

To me i always pictured her as a fairly older women given her experience and amount of time she's been researching. Clearly someone with a lot of exprience. And also i just vibe with it.

I kept her outfit simple, as i dont figure her as someone to put too much into the latest fashion given her focus on her work. I took the green from the art to use as her skirt to tie in that colour. I also looked up some photos of female doctors of the time and that partially influenced my art direction here.

Obliging Silverer

I debated including him or not given that you only have him as part of the team if you use the light fingers exclusive option to access the parabolan basecamp. But given the fact that he literaly dies defending the camp, I think its only fair that he gets included.

i just had a bit of fun with the design as there wasnt too much to restrict off. I dont draw a lot of characters with mustaches depsite them being a thing of the time, so I figured this was a good excuse as any. I kept with some orange colours within his colour scheme for further callbacks to parabola and his work.

Also hey did you know that people of an ashkenazi background can also have red hair? Fun fact heh.

☔Is there a fic concept you have that you'd like to just explain and share because you're not sure you'll ever write it? If so, what is it?

I gave a longer answer here, but that was only the second half of that concept. So here's the first:

After the Wolf finale events the surviving crew returns home - Minkowski, Eiffel, Lovelace, Hera… and Jacobi. Jacobi, who lost everything in space. What kind of life does he got to return to?

Fast forward a… little while. The Heph crew is slowly but surely picking up the pieces of themselves, supporting each other as they try to rebuild their lives on Earth. They try to include Jacobi too, at least in the beginning, but even if he turned to their side in the end, he isn't one of them, he knows that deep in his bones, that he belonged with the SI-5, with Kepler and Maxwell, and not these guys. So while the others struggle to recover from their experiences, Jacobi spirals deeper and deeper, drawing away from them, diving head first back into self-destruction.

For a while he keeps in sporadic contact with the survivor's, but eventually drops off the radar completely as he fails to adjust to life back on Earth. The details are very fuzzy, but… it doesn't end well.

i’m constantly thinking about the “i hope you don’t think we’d go down without a fight” exchange from securite. you can tell something’s wrong throughout the entire episode as it keeps getting worse and it becomes clearer and clearer what the si-5 are there to do but that line especially hurts so bad. it’s so dismissive. “yes, we know you’ll resist, we know you’ll put up a fight and you’ll struggle against us because you’re people and we’ll never forget that. but it doesn’t matter, because nothing is as important as we came here to do.”

si-5 falls victim to their hubris eventually but when they’re introduced they really do look SO invincible. they come up there with all the answers the heph crew doesn’t have, but they also seem to know everything ABOUT the heph crew. they know about their profound struggle and fight for their own humanity but they file it away right in front of them because... weighed against the big picture, it can’t matter. it’s that ruthlessness in action and it’s so chilling.

He is INCREDIBLY, PAINFULLY self-aware. He is the artist formerly known as and thus he is in a constant state of performing himself and the line between genuine and artifice blurs

I had fun drawing these in this more squishy style ^-^

Sometime after realizing they were meant to die in space and this was intended by the dear company they work for, Doug, Isabel, and Renée waste some of their precious time and energy ripping off the Goddard Futuristic logos from their space attire (over the course of a few weeks or something). As well, when they have free time (non-existent, but they take it anyway) they also sometimes scrape at any of the emblems on the station itself. Eiffel had the grand idea of taking a sharpie to some of them, drawing over them, blacking them out, etc. They find it... cathartic  

Upon their arrival, none of the members of the SI-5 really mention it, though they all definitely notice. Everything they bring with them, of course, has all Goddard labeling intact, creating just one more noticeable a difference between the two “teams”

personally i can't imagine shipping hera with anyone on the hephaestus crew, it would take a lot more than eventually being a friend to get over the hump of dehumanizing, dismissing and ignoring her needs for years to get her to see any of them in any kind of romantic light. i fully believe hera will have the freedom to explore social interaction outside of her very limited circle once back on earth and she'll meet people (or other AIs!) who will have never

called her wind-up girl

called her a malfunctioning piece of software

needed their hand held through the basics of not dehumanizing their friends

and she would realize that whatever kind of relationship they eventually developed, it would never erase how they'd treated her before they started seeing her as a person worthy of their regard and consideration.

people are obviously free to ship who/how they want, but realistically she should not get with any of these people for any reason. getting to a point where these ships are viable would take so much work and time and energy which ngl, would be fascinating to explore except. no one does?

hera would not take refuge in the heph crew, who had established over and over again that they aren't safe people for her to confide in and trust, and would probably be happiest with a big gaggle of internet friends given the opportunity which, credit to minkowski & co, they wouldn't stop her from doing.

i know it wouldn't be very crucial to the plot or whatever so i understand why they didn't add it but there's still a part of me that wishes when the heph crew came to the sol's artificial gravity they tripped on their faces like astronauts who have been in space for 3 years and aren't used to normal gravity. but whatever
