Eramis HeroForge tutorial (audio VERY quiet)
youtube
Here's my tutorial on how I made Eramis in HeroForge! I went through the whole process from start to finish explaining how I put together the base of the figure, positioned everything, the steps to making the figure, and especially how I kitbashed the individual details on!
THE AUDIO IS VERY QUIET!!! USE HEADPHONES!!!!!! I have no idea why it exported as quietly as it did, I tried to edit the volume and it didn't work. I apologize.
I hope this helps and gives some decent insight into my process of making Eliksni in HeroForge!
And, most of all, if any of you make one for yourself, let me know!! I'd LOVE to see it!! :)

Idea making a Ganondorf centric Zelda game
Ok, to start of with, this is way farther in the timeline, like, after TOTK, after everything. The cycle has repeated itself so many times that it's become rote. You can literally pick any history book off the shelf and see what's going to happen. And the current Queen Zelda doesn't like this at all.She likes her Hyrule nice and stable with her at the top and everyone else firmly below her. After all, isn't it natural? Even if it wasn't specifically her per se, she and her loyal knight have saved this country a million times. In fact, she thinks, why not save them all some time and make all the other tribes in Hyrule her vassal states? make an easier time for if General Link has to go save them. But why make him save her at all? just to make sure, she orders the chief of the Gerudo to slaughter any voe born to their tribe
The game opens with 15 year old Ganon and your mom Tween-Ravah(See what i did there?) in a shack in the middle of the desert, miles away from Gerudo town. Her tribespeople might be willing to bend the knee to that tyrannical brat but NOT HER. She's sick in bed and your tutorial is going around the desert with her old scimitar collecting herbs and food for her. But when you get back, there's a bunch of Gerudo guards around the burning wreck of your home. Here's where the game really starts
The general plotline stays the same, go to each tribe, do some shit, slay something, go to big bad's castle and kill them. Except things are different in this Hyrule. Here, you have no friends, the monsters have no master to unify them so they just go wherever, and all the tribes are gunning for your head. Or at least, most of them are. Instead of just saving them from a big monster, you have to convince and help the tribe stage a coup. Maybe because this Zelda is paranoid, she's making all the Goron craft only weapons and only for her royal guard. So you have to find the Gorons who either don't want to forge and want to heal instead, or just want to make jewelry, and work together to take out the forges or drive out the royal guards. shit like that. Instead of a monster, you have to fight the leaders of the tribes. The hardest Boss is Link, who you have a few encounters with at various points in the game and is the final boss for one ending(I'll explain later)
Now, the gameplay of this is a bit different, because unlike Link, who gets nothing but a sword, Ganon has both huge magic and unlimited evil on tap, just waiting for you to tap into your triforce. So let's Undertale this shit. The "pacifist" route has you playing like Link, you just have a sword and you go around collecting artifacts from various dungeons and upgrading your skill. The other route involves a special ability to tap into your tri-force. When you do, you get a huge strength boost and access to magic attacks like fireballs and summoning gloom hands. The downside to this is that if you use it too much it starts corrupting you. After using it too much or too often(there's a meter you can check), you start only being able to use those powers. you lose your ability to use your mom's sword, just magic and your bare hands. Where in the pacifist route you could collect allies to help you liberate the people, now you have to go at it alone. if you wanna commit to being evil, you don't get to have friends. Where you could spare bosses if you liked before, now you only have the option of killing them. the biggest change is in the final battle.
If you go pacifist, Link slowly realizes that being a hero means more than just being Zelda's lapdog. it's just, he's a Link, and she's a Zelda and he's meant to serve her. But seeing you liberate the people, seeing how happy they looked, it's given him a change of heart. Ganon and Link team up to defeat the witch queen Zelda(not her title, i just wanted to de-notate that she's a magic using boss). Once you defeat her, you and Link manage to overpower her will, and with all three pieces of the tri-force, you wish to end the cycle. permanently. No more Links, no more Zeldas, no more ganons.
In the Genocide however, Link sees none of that, all he sees is a ruthless brute destroying her majesty's country, killing her allies, and proving all her fears right. For the sake of all that is good, he must destroy this monster. Once you manage to knock him unconscious, you grab his limp body and Zelda by the neck and make your wish. A new world of chaos. No more empires, no more rules, just strength to determine what is right. The cycle continues, another link in the chain

also, to the pookies who recommended builds in my Minecraft world, dont think I forgot to make them, they are here in all their glory!
this was the only tutorial I found on YouTube at the time. the small sign says "fallen hero statue".
Added a park so the bees could be kept in a cute and peaceful place, also added a tree house in the forest/beach area, then I added the weird looking satanic temple, and the project that has kept me up most nights, the F1 track and also please ignore my pup on the McLaren, she went wandering whilst I took the pic.
The town where the satanic temple is, I called it Midmans town, has a whole history behind it that somehow involves the band ghost's creator, Tobias forge. the building to the right is the home to my towns first gay couple, I even made a sign that said it. Also, not in this set of pictures is the iconic Mexican store, Oxxo, thank you anon for that idea.

Gothic Classic Review (Nintendo Switch OLED)

For this Gothic Classic Review, we return to Myrtana as the Nameless Hero in Gothic Classic, the award-winning RPG that shaped and inspired countless roleplaying games. Experience it now for the first time on Nintendo Switch. War has been waged across the kingdom of Myrtana. Orcish hordes invaded human territory and the king of the land needed a lot of ore to forge enough weapons, should his army stand against this threat. Whoever breaks the law in these darkest of times is sentenced to serve in the giant penal colony of Khorinis, mining the much-needed ore.

Gothic Classic Review Pros:
- Decent graphics. - 3.6GB download size. - 20 save slots. - Game settings - subtitles, animated windows, gore and how much, text language, and voice language. - Motion control support is complete with an animated tutorial. - Controller settings - Invert axis and sensitivity sliders. - Cutscenes are a mix of FMV and in-game. - Powerful and impactful voice work. - Action RPG gameplay. - A full 3D world with 360-degree camera control. - Multiple choice encounters. - You can fast-forward text conversations to speed them up. - Full player stats screen showing all your stats like strength, dexterity, skills, exp level, etc. - Proper old-school adventuring gameplay. - Can save and load when you want. - Handy loot all button. - Full inventory management system. - The jumping animation is hilarious to watch. - Interaction points highlight.#Its a game that strangely keeps dragging you back in. - Text pops up over items etc. - The equipment lets you have two weapons equipped at once with a quick trigger press to swap them. - Loadout consists of two rings, armor, an amulet, and your two weapons. - Handy quick select items set to the d-pad. - Does have a quick save and load using a button combination. - Hack and slash combat. - EXP earned pops up as you earn it. - Play how you want. - Despite a few hiccups, the controls are good considering the original game was mouse and keyboard. - Main quest line along with many side optional quests. - Your playthrough feels unique because you have so many options and opportunities to take a variety of paths. - 3rd person view. - Has a fantastic atmosphere with things like getting told off for trespassing, and guards getting arsey because you have a weapon out. - At times you can get to watch the world live out. - A great trip down memory lane. - The world is a thing to behold for it has beauty and drudge all mixed in.

Gothic Classic Review Cons: - Cannot rebind controls. - Remember that games this old didn't get tutorials. - Clunky controls that take some getting used to like you have to put your weapon away in order to pick up items and loot. - Over-the-top fall damage. - You need to be in an exact precise part in order to interact or pick up items. - Dying doesn't trigger a menu to start again instead, you go into the menus and find the new/load game option. - The game is not smooth in performance terms, when loading in assets etc. the game will either stutter or full-on lock up for a few seconds. - Actions like opening chests or climbing ladders require you to hold down the action game and there is no way to change that. - Glitches through walls a few times and the game struggles with you jumping into assets like fences. - The camera goes a bit weird in places usually when in close quarters. - Looking at the sun or having a fair bit of it on the screen will blow the color out. - Aside from the occasional bit of magical world-living moments, enemies will just stand there waiting for you to hit the trigger so they move towards you. - It is very slow-paced. - Item management is a chore and not as slick as it needs to be. Hero Forge: My "Souls-Borne" Characters so far...
I've cleared Bloodborne enough times to get platinum, and still enjoy going back to it every once in a while. It's undeniably my favorite of all Fromsoft's titles (that I've played, but I don't think DS3 or Sekiro are likely to usurp it when/if I get around to them.)
Anyway, I had a seriously rough go of it trying to get through Dark Souls 1, starting two attempts that ended in rage quits extremely early on. First try didn't even make it TO Undead Berg because I got lost right at the start and got eaten by endlessly regenerating skeletons, second try I managed to actually beat the first Taurus Demon, and don't remember exactly what I got stuck on and inevitably rage quit again, but it happened.
It was only my THIRD attempted playthrough- after getting hooked on Bloodborne and making use of the same strategies- that I was able not only to actually see the rest of the game (which I had up to that point theorized didn't even exist and any known details were just part of an elaborate inside joke among people pretending to have made it that far), but actually beat it.
And finally overcoming such an infamously difficult game was cause for some kind of celebration, so I immortalized the Chosen Undead I took from the Undead Asylum to the Kiln of the First Flame...as a Hero Forge figure trying my best to match the loadout I had when I defeated Gwyn. The Gargoyle Tail Axe carried me through the ENTIRE game after I got it.
THEN. I did what any sane person who hated every step of Dark Souls would do after finally beating it...I played Dark Souls 2. Again. After my two rage-quits of 1, I thought maybe 2 would be better and fix at least SOME of the things I hated about 1...
NOT SO. ONCE AGAIN I went the "wrong way" and got obliterated by a bunch of giant knights that, given my "I literally just got out of the tutorial area" level, each qualified as a boss fight by themselves even though they were just normal-ass enemies.
ATTEMPT #2 WOULD BE DIFFERENT, THOUGH. I beat Bloodborne AND Dark Souls 1, after all. It would be painful, no doubt, but possible. And no, it was decidedly NOT better than 1. I discovered entirely new things to hate about it in ADDITION to the returning obnoxiousness from 1.
But I slogged through, raged at the bad parts, acknowledged a few good parts, and EVENTUALLY the Bearer of the Curse became Queen of Drangleic by taking the throne (in contrast to to how I ended the previous game by *not* doing that.) Another Hero Forgery was in order! This one was a bit tougher just because of how much unique armor and gear there was. The life-stealing Butcher's Knife became my favorite after favoring various axes up to the point where I got it.
With that, my Dark Souls journey is done until 3 goes on a decent sale, but I did get Elden Ring, and that's actually been a ton of fun! Not "dethrone Bloodborne" fun, but it can comfortably take 2nd place in my rankings.
At the time of posting this, I haven't actually beaten it yet, but I am AT the final boss, and it's a massive Fromsoft-level pain in the ass. I'm sure I can do it, and I'm on track for the "marry the pretty moon witch lady" ending once I do, so I jumped the gun a bit and made...
I spent far longer than I care to admit trying to make something look like Ghiza's Wheel, AKA the Whirligig Saw, AKA the Pizza Cutter, but I just couldn't get anything to work for the blades.
NOW. If you've read this far, you're probably wondering something like, "Wait, you said Bloodborne was your favorite, so why didn't you make one of these for that game?" I didn't make a "Bloodborne Neiri" because my original Bloodborne character, and the one I first beat the game with was actually Tailii. I didn't make Neiri as a character until I realized that NG+2 Laurence was just too much for Tailii to handle. So I started a new character, played through the whole game again, and was able to take out Laurence and the Orphan of Kos, and get its weapon drop for the platinum.
Only after that did I decide to give the other Souls games another chance, and start making the different versions of Neiri in Hero Forge. For the sake of completion, I made Bloodborne Neiri after finishing the Elden Ring version.
And here she is. Because of how BB's armor system works, I actually frequently change outfits throughout the game, so neither Tailii nor Neiri ever had a consistent look, so I went with the Knight's Set purely for fashionable reasons.
Wow. This post ended up being a lot more text heavy than I planned.

Wartales Review (Nintendo Switch OLED)

For this Wartales Review, A century has passed since the fall of the Edoran Empire at the hands of an unprecedented plague that swept the nation. Now, the land is rife with mercenary work, banditry, and thievery, with honor having become an almost entirely forgotten virtue. Prepare to lead a group of unscrupulous characters in a massive open world where combat, death, and a thirst for riches will dictate your day-to-day life. You are not the hero of this story, destined to usher in a new era of peace. Your goal is solely to survive and thrive in this harsh and hostile world, by any means necessary…
Wartales Review Pros:
- Decent graphics. - 9.3GB download size. - Accessibility settings - text size, camera shake, colorblind, magnifier zoom multiplier, adjust outline thickness, change hovered outlines color, and change highlighted outlines to color. - Controller settings - cursor, hover, and combat sensitivity slider, dad one slider, vibration, and Invert axis for both horizontal and vertical. - Display tutorials - on/off. - Combat settings - blood splatter/killing blow on/off, activate border scrolling, and animation speed. - Display enemy turn order in battle option. - Set if the plus button is always in the options menu or not. - Multiplayer options - Co-op game, local multiplayer, and join using an invite system. - The new game has you choosing your companion's destiny - your complaints are - Bandits looking to escape the guard, young farmers looking for a better life, deserters fleeing an abusive captain, men escorting merchants who lost their employer, and apprentice friends looking for an adventure. Your choice determines what and who you start with. - Further companion setup includes your companions being used to (multiple choice and effects stats), and if they had a flaw (again affects stats). - Two exploration options for a new game - adaptive (the game always offers a challenge and changes the difficulty by your group's power and size) and region which means every area has a set enemy difficulty level. - Starting options - set what region to start in, combat difficulty (novice/experienced/expert), survival difficulty (same as before), and save mode (limited/free/iron-man). - RPG gameplay. - Hover text pop-ups. - You can customize and name each starting troop member. You can edit and name your pony including it's traits. - Cool art loading screens. - Open world game world. - Turn-based combat. - The combat lets you choose your troop's starting position then it's a turn order and you can do what you want within an action point limit. - The end of combat breakdown shows a summary, loot gained, and lets you repair. - You are free to travel around and do what you want. - Save and load when you want. - A great sense of adventure. - Does good slow-motion final hit-kill sequences. - When fighting enemies your troops will become engaged showing a constant loop of fighting animations. - Location names pop up over them. - Full 3D world and combat areas with full 360-degree camera control. - You can steal from people. - Buy and sell items and ponies with shops and vendors. - Multiple choice encounters. - Free cursor view so you can highlight anywhere on the screen. - The map uncovers as you move around. - Forge new weapons and armor with resources and materials. - Assign professions to your troops. - Fishing is a mini-game. - A living world with vendors, thieves, and gangs roaming around. - Earn knowledge points and use them in a skill tree-like system to unlock things like the ability to run or rationing. - Take on optional side jobs and quests. - Intertroop relationships can happen from friendship to romance. - Each troop member can earn exp and level up to unlock new attacks and stay boosts. - Camp when you want in the game world. - Full inventory and troop management. - A mobile workshop can be used at camp to do basic crafting. (well as long as you give the tinkerer profession to a troop member) - Fatigue can kill and to remedy it you need to rest at camp. You need to assign food and time also advances. - When resting you can be attacked, you do sometimes get a bit of a heads up that could happen. - The troop management tasks involve food, fatigue, happiness, and everything in between. - Camp report after resting. - Day and night cycle with different weather types. - Fishing gets you experience and the fish. - Locations turn into an isometric view and almost like a point-and-click sequence looking for spare loot, chatting with people, or stealing. - You can use the Woods to hide from enemy sight or get an ambush bonus in combat. - Different biomes. - Has a choose-your-own-adventure style approach to all the interactions and choices. - A very ambitious game. - The snow looks really good and can cause whiteouts. - Animals can be captured! Get their health down and then use rope or chains to have them. - The four-player mode is a fantastic idea and plays OK. Wartales Review Cons: - Cannot rebind controls. - Does a bad job of welcoming new players. - Long loading times. - Starting a new game takes a lot of setting up. - The performance is not great and found it worse when in docked mode. - Combat is not explained well at all. - Very daunting at first. - A lot to take in. - No way to look at the control layout. - World traversal is not great with any sort of an incline being Insurmountable, you can't tell it's steep until you try going up it. - Bad-looking textures in places. - When interacting with resources or anything like that in the game world the game stutters and sometimes just freezes for a few seconds. - Fishing doesn't give you any control of the rod, it also uses up hooks quickly. - The ui is not user-friendly or even very clear. - Uses a lot of icons and stats that you don't know what it is or what it does/means. - It just constantly feels slow and clunky. - The fatigue seems really bad. - You cannot zoom the camera in. - Had the game lock up a fair few times and crash back to the Switch interface. - It feels like an early-access game. - The performance and slowdown are a lot more prevalent in multiplayer. Useful information :
/!\ Please note that you need a good PC to run Make The Hero as well as a virtual reality headset HTC Vive . The current version might be poorly optimized for your PC, or there might be some bugs. We are sorry for any inconvenience you may encounter. We have no version for oculus or other headset. /!\
To begin the game use the trigger on the tutorial button or drink the no tuto potion.
Known issues :
- if everything goes black foggy, put your head through a wall (ingame), go back into the playable area.

- to craft miracles use the light power represented ingame by a lighting.
Other information :
- put 2 ore on the oven during the tutorial
- during the tutorial when you have your power, active the trigger to use it.
- give the iron axe to the bridge during the quest not the hero (you can give an axe to the hero but it doesn't unlock the rest of the quest

A special kind of magic happens when kids gather around a table to play a fantasy role-playing game. Legends are born, friendships are forged, and they begin to experience real-world personal growth.
For the past seven years, we have been using tabletop games as therapy to help kids become more confident, creative and socially empowered. We're ready to help thousands of children around the world, but we need your help!

Critical Core is a tabletop role-playing game designed to help kids on the autism spectrum build social skills and confidence. It's a great way for parents to engage with their children at home, and for professionals and experienced gamers to use as a group social skills tool.
Critical Core is brought to you by Game to Grow, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and co-developed with autism advocates, parents, therapists, and educators.

Suitable for cognitive age 9+, including teens and adults.
2 to 4 players recommended, plus one adult that acts as the facilitator. (Game Master)
Players must have basic listening and verbalization skills.
When running games with young players on the spectrum, parent or certified therapist should be present.
Experienced gamers will be able to integrate Critical Core into their favorite platform: Ruleset is adapted and streamlined from D&D's 5th Edition OpenSRD.
A great introduction to tabletop role-playing games for everyone.

The Critical Core Starter Set has everything you need to play. The game has been tuned to be as easy as possible to get started and stay engaged.

Facilitator's Guide - For parents, therapists, and Game Masters, our best practices on running fun and effective therapeutic gaming groups.
Player & Game Master Guides - Quick-start rules and playing guides for players and Game Masters.
Adventure Modules - Tested and tuned to be challenging and fun.
Dice (4 sets) - One for each player, one for the Game Master. Enough to run a 3 player game out-of-the-box.
Character Sheets - 4 popular hero archetypes, each with their own unique abilities.
Game Cards - Not required for play, but helpful aids for both players and Game Masters - Visualization, quick-reference rules, and spell cards.
Game Tokens - Visualization aids for working with the included map.
Reusable map - whiteboard marker friendly.
Please note: Artwork shown is work-in-progress and may be subject to change!

Critical Core is fit-for-purpose, designed to help neurodiverse players get started and stay engaged. At the same time, facilitators are provided with the right tools to make the experience effective without it 'feeling like therapy'.
Each encounter the players face is targeted to help build strength in areas that are related to challenges associated with autism spectrum disorder.
Critical Core is scaffolded around the DIR/Floortime model, and game encounters map to the FEDC framework. (Function Emotional Developmental Capacities)
But all of this is under the hood. At its heart, Critical Core is simply FUN.

When kids engage in a world of fantasy play they are free to explore new ideas and relationships in a safe and fun sandbox. Skills learned while playing Critical Core can last a lifetime.

Although designed for kids on the autism spectrum, Critical Core is just as beneficial (and fun) for all kids. It's an easy stepping stone into the fantastic world of tabletop role-playing games.

Critical Core is built on established developmental frameworks and distills seven years of practical gaming therapy experience into an easy-to-use format. It is an amazing tool that can be used at home, at school, in a therapist’s office, or out in the community. And above all, it's great fun.

Your passion and support can make Critical Core a reality. Please, pledge now and then get a friend to do the same. Together we can bring the incredible benefits of intentional gaming to those who need it most.

We're committed to getting this right. The majority of our time will be spent improving and refining the Critical Core Starter Set with the feedback from beta testers and testing groups. We also have some final artwork and design work to take care of, and of course there is the physical production. We'll be keeping you informed throughout the process, and probably asking for some help and advice along the way!

Game to Grow is a not-for profit 501(c) company, and our donations are allocated to helping run game groups for kids across the Seattle region. Kickstarter is important for two reasons:
First, you are an amazing community, and if anyone can help spread the word about the incredible benefits of role-playing games, it's you!
Second, there are costs involved in developing and manufacturing Critical Core, so Kickstarter helps us to produce this amazing project!

Perhaps you already have a favorite role-playing game and are wondering how Critical Core can fit into your gaming life. Like many of you, we are avid gamers and have many games we’ve loved for years.
Critical Core can improve the games you’re already playing.
If you’re already playing an established RPG with your kids, your students, or your community, Critical Core can still help you improve your game and boost your outcomes.
Critical Core contains a rule system, designed to be easily accessible to a neuro-diverse population as well as new facilitators, but that’s not all! If you are already established using a game that you enjoy and find effective, you’ll be able to use the other components of Critical Core that are designed to support a game facilitator in helping their players learn and grow.
Critical Core contains a unique module design where in-game scenarios are targeted to real-world development outcomes. This can be translated to most established role-playing games. Additionally, the Critical Core kit includes a facilitator’s guide which contains the learnings of the past seven years of facilitating role-playing games for social growth.
Do I need prior experience with role-playing games to run Critical Core? No. Critical Core is a 'rules-light' tabletop RPG, and the instructions will be designed to help brand new Game Masters quickly learn how to facilitate games that are enriching and fun. We are also planning to release video guides and tutorials to help you out!
I'm already playing tabletop RPGs with my kids!
Awesome! You already know the amazing benefits we're talking about. You also know from experience, that tabletop RPGs can be easy to pick up and play, but learning how to be a great Game Master can be challenging, especially for new players.
Why not use an established role-playing game platform?
Critical Core's rule set is adapted from D&D's 5th Edition Open SRD. We have taken out some of the complexity for new players and Game Masters. Think of Critical Core as an entry-level platform: easier for parents, schools, and clinics to pick up and play.
Are you trying to replace my favorite game?
No way! We see Critical Core as a stepping stone to the wide world of RPG gaming. Actually, we hope that as kids grow familiar and comfortable with the system, they can move on to your favorite platform. If you're already using some of the great games out there, then more power to you!
So how is Critical Core different?
We have applied our experience and best practices to help children (and caregivers) have the most effective and fun experience possible.
Meticulously designed adventure content to help empower kids with social and problem-solving challenges.
Game encounters, guidebooks, mechanics heavily influenced by established developmental frameworks (DIR/Floortime).
Rules have been adapted to be easier for new players and Game Masters to pick up.
Adventures divided into 'one-shot' chapters that can be completed in 90 minutes.
Goldilocks Content' - not too complex/scary and not too easy/cartoony. Just right.
I've been GM'ing for years, what's in this for me?
For starters, you'll be able to pick up the Critical Core system in minutes. We have had inquiries from organizations from across the globe who want to start using Critical Core. You could be a great mentor or GM partner for Critical Core games. Please contact us for more info on how you can help!

Game Journal: Tag Tamers - Entry #01

Well, here it is. The most relevant Wonderswan Ryo game as far as the Adventure timeline is concerned, and the backstory for Ken Ichijouji in Digimon Adventure 02. It’s also apparently the highest rated game of the series, along with Brave Tamer, so I’m excited for this playthrough.
Some context before starting: this game came out during the Chimeramon episodes of 02, the final part of the Digimon Emperor arc. As such, this was the very first time the digimon fanbase saw Ken Ichijouji as a hero, right as his villain persona in the series came crashing down and before we got to see his real personality.
As before, given the ammount of exposition in the intro, I’ll be covering the tutorial as a separate entry before going to a regular 1-entry-per-2-hours routine.
Special thanks to NikcDC and Ajora Fravashi from Romhacking net for translating the game!

First thing I’d like to mention is the music for this title card. It’s an 8-bit version of Break-Up, and it’s so much more hype-inducing than the one from the previous game. As you may have noticed, this game is in black-and-white, since the previous one was only in color because it was a later remake.

After an opening narration summarizing the events of the previous game, the story opens with Ryo visiting his friend Ken Ichijouji, who has asked him to come because his computer is behaving weirdly. It’s interesting because this implies Ryo is a relatively computer-savvy kid, which didn’t really come across in Anode/Cathode Tamer. Anyway, Ken says there’s a strange creature in his screen. Ryo looks at it and sees...

Yep, the events of Our War Game. Ken has been watching for a while, at least enough to know Diaboromon didn’t look like that before. The duo sees WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon be defeated, at which point Ryo panics and starts running around the room.

Ken is understandably confused as to why his friend is acting so emotionally to some video game stream, but Ryo tells him that those creatures are real, that they are in an actual fight. Ken still doesn’t quite get it, but asks him what they can do to help. Ryo gets the idea of sending an e-mail, presumably at the same time a lot of other children around the world do so too, and of course you know the result:

Omegamon defeats Diaboromon easily, and Taichi thanks everyone who helped. Ryo finally relaxes, after which Ken asks for further confirmation that all of that was real.
A day passes and Ryo visits Ken again. Once again, a digimon has appeared in his computer screen. There’s a sudden light as a D-3 flashes in the screen, and once everything returns to normal, this is what welcomes them:

Yep. After spending an entire game with a borrowed partner, Ryo finally gets his own partner, V-mon. The digimon immediately asks for his help, and Ryo answers very calmly that he expected this to happen, and asks if Diaboromon is still around. V-mon confirms this, and takes them all to the Digital World. Why Ken was included in this beats me.

Ryo greets Gennai, Pixiemon and Agumon. Gennai is far more amiable here than in the previous game, immediately complimenting Ryo. V-mon interrupts the greetings and asks Gennai to get to the point. Apparently this is a very common ocurrance, because Gennai takes it in stride, only remarking that V-mon is as impatient as ever.
According to Gennai, the flood of information from the internet to the Digital World is straining it and causing problems, initially only reflected as digimon devolving to Child-level, but increasing over time. Gennai and the rest believe this is because of a Diaboromon that escaped the previous fight, and has asked for the Chosen Children’s aid. They plan to wait for Taichi to arrive, but V-mon is impatient and tells Ryo they can’t handle it themselves. Ryo agrees, and the two go to look for Diaboromon against Gennai’s and Agumon’s wishes.
They also leave Ken alone in a new world with some people he doesn’t know, so... what an excellent friend you are, Ryo.

We cross a portal into the affected area, finding ourselves in the village from the first game, completely destroyed. It’s a low-key chilling moment, specially given the music used is the same as in the first game. Even the mountains have been crushed. Ryo and V-mon go to the same tree-cave where they fought Devimon, the only place in the entire area that hasn’t been affected in the slightest.

The combat mechanics have changed, this time around being far more traditional RPG, rather than tactical one. We are allowed a team of three that can be situated in 6 different positions, something that would be refined in the later Digimon Story games for the Nintendo DS. Anyway, we have two different fights with Baby-levels before facing Diaboromon. We manage to defeat him, except...

Except it was all a ruse, of course. Millenniummon, somehow still alive, was in control from the start, using the lone Diaboromon as a lure to get Ryo away from the others. Millenniummon uses an explosion on Ryo and V-mon, simultaneously affecting the group in the village right as Taichi and Agumon arrive (though both Gennai and Ken seem to feel something is off before it happens). Ryo and V-mon awaken in the village, where they find Pixiemon, Taichi and Agumon, but Ken and Gennai are nowhere to be seen. What is more, Taichi and Agumon appear to be frozen, as if they were stone.

Meanwhile, the explosion knocked Ken to the forest, unconscious. Wormmon finds him, and the boy soon wakes up. The digimon tells him that he’s looking for the Chosen Child, but the boy tells him that’s not him but Ryo. Wormmon asks him if he’s the Ken Gennai has asked him to retrieve. Ryo answers that he is, and asks him if he can lead him back to Gennai. They arrive at a tunnel in a tree, and Wormmon says they have nothing to fear because Ken is a Chosen Child.

The dungeons now have names, and it’s certainly interesting to have both the dungeons Ken has to go through have names that relate to, well, loneliness, which Ken’s flashbacks in 02 tell us is not an unfamiliar feeling for him.

Anyway, we go through both dungeons and arrive at the village, where they find Gennai and the frozen statues of Taichi and Agumon. The duo ask what has happened, and Gennai tells them his theory: Millenniummon has used his powers to split the world in two, with which he planned to separate Taichi and Ryo. Somehow, Ken was stuck on a separate world from Ryo, while Taichi and Agumon are somehow between worlds, frozen.

Upon hearing this, Ken is convinced he’s at fault somehow. Gennai, in true Gennai fashion...

Tells him that’s ridiculous and that this is no way Ken’s fault! I have to say, I’m liking him better this time around. He’s actually acting like the mentor figure he’s supposed to be.

Ken is comforted, at least temporarily, and the group start making plans to help Ryo however they can. Wormmon tells Ken he’ll join him, and Gennai tells him he’s truly one of the Chosen Children.
Now inside Gennai’s house, the human-like being tells them to go see Centalmon before they leave, since he can rebuilt the Armor Digimentals when given the necessary pieces. We go to his forgery and find:

That he can forge the Light and Hope Digimentals! These can increase our defenses against specific types of attack and, of course, enable Armor evolutions when paired with the right digimon. Armed with the two, we leave the village to start our adventure.
This is it for the prologue. I have to say, I like how they’ve set up the story in this game much better than in the last one, and every character comes accross as stronger here (except Agumon, who has like 1 or 2 lines before being statue-d). See you next time for the first part of the adventure!
