FUN GHOUL & JET STAR

gOD i love their dynamic so much its very interesting. this'll be more of a bullet list of what they're like since i have Many Thoughts on them overall

basically, they’re total opposites but are entirely inseparable

morally, they bicker a fuck ton because Ghoul is very careless and Jet is always trying to keep them out of too much trouble. Ghoul will always throw himself headfirst into a firefight and Jet doesn’t understand why the hell he would try to waste his life like that

Ghoul feels the need to prove himself as a ‘joy (since he was a scarecrow back in the city) so he’s always just jumping into fights and feeling like he's gotta risk his life to be a 'real killjoy'

Jet however is very cautious in fights and always makes sure everyone around him is doing alright (since he’s lost so many people in the past) and he'll cover Ghoul whenever he does something reckless

outside of that however, they tend to get along in a mean-yet-affectionate sort of way. or honestly just a straight up affectionate way

Ghoul will tap Jet’s shoulder as their own way of checking if he’s alright with contact and if Jet nods, Ghoul will literally just jump on him

Ghoul is very respectful of physical boundaries and always makes sure everyone’s alright with it before he jumps onto their back or flops down across their lap or tackles them to the floor

but, witch, is he oblivious to what he should and should not say (but we'll get into that later)

the two of them are almost always tangled up on the couch or in a booth while doing their own separate things. they’re probably the two most physically affectionate out of anyone in the diner, so it’s not uncommon to see them in a seemingly uncomfortable pile of limbs

Ghoul will sometimes jump onto Jet’s back and cover his eyes just to mess with him. affectionate fighting is very common in the diner, Jet and Ghoul are absolutely one of the more common pairs to bicker

after Jet lost his eye, Ghoul no longer does this. he knows it’s not just some childish game of not being able to see anymore, but rather a very real fear

if Ghoul’s ever having a rough day or feels overwhelmed by his surroundings, the first person he’ll go to is Jet. he hates anyone near his face and will often bury it into the side of Jet’s jacket and sit curled up by his side for a while. Jet will either be entirely quiet or hum softly, gauging based on Ghoul’s reaction to either

Jet, however, will often try to distance himself when intrusive thoughts or compulsions get too difficult. and Ghoul, while overall oblivious to most things that aren't entirely obvious or stated clearly, always notices when Jet starts drifting. he’s not great at talking in serious situations but he can be a surprisingly good listener when he needs to be. he’s really one of the only people Jet will truly open up fully to, the only one that knows more than the vague idea that Jet has ‘just lost some people’

Jet is also the only person who knows for sure that Ghoul was an old scarecrow. the others may have guessed around the subject but never got the guts to ask Ghoul directly. but Ghoul has talked with Jet on a few occasions about Batt City, about being a ‘crow, and about his sibling (more on them later whoops, sorry for being cryptic)

the two of them will go stargazing a lot, laying down on the roof of the diner and talking mindlessly about stars or the desert or just nothing at all

they tend to refer to one another as ‘Star’ and ‘Fun’ unless in serious situations. it’s almost seen as an insult for the other to refer to them as ‘Jet’ or ‘Ghoul’ and they usually only do so when they are actually pissed the fuck off at each other. Jet will call him ‘Ghoul’ when he’s referring to how careless he is and Ghoul will call him ‘Jet’ when he’s tired of hearing him act like he knows everything about his life or what’s best for him (which let’s be honest he probably does but whatever)

these arguments can get pretty heated and the best that they can do is step away and give themselves time to cool off for a bit. it’s usually Ghoul that eventually reaches out to Jet, leaving the comfort of the shed he works in to peek his head into the diner and carefully make his way over to the other ‘joy

there’s usually not much of an exchange of words, more of an assurance of feelings through nonverbal cues and physical affection (god i really am just projecting here i am so fuckin sorry sjhvdvsjh)

Ghoul likes to fill the empty space by talking about nothing in particular and Jet will sit by listening and nodding or humming a response on occasion

overall, they’re just very sweet and understand that the both of them have been through a hell of a lot, so it’s not worth starting petty arguments
