still can't believe benoit blanc the funny southern detective guy with the silly little suits and ascots is gay for real canon. like they made this great character who wasn't really queer-coded at all and whose sexuality was left basically ambiguous in the first movie and then it came time to write a second movie and they had the opportunity to give him a partner and they just. made him gay. just like that. gave him a husband played by hugh grant literally just cause. not because he was particularly coded, not because a lot of people were asking for it (though i know i always thought he was fruity <3), not for attention or whatever. they literally just had the choice between straight and gay and they chose gay. just because. that doesn't happen often! i feel like you don't often see popular characters being made gay just for the sake of it! that's kind of special to me.
