I think about it earlier today: priyaleb this season is literally a foil to rajbow last season.

While both ship contains an Indian-Canadian and a African-Canadian, one person from both ship is finalist. But their plot are completely different:

Apart from rajbow is a mlm ship and priyaleb is a mlw ship.

rajbow have no drama while priyaleb is full of drama.

rajbow’s plot last half the season before Raj got medvacas while priyaleb last an entire season.

Bowie wants to focus on the games so he decided to date Raj after the season, Priya have majority of her time with Caleb and focus on the game a lot less this time.

Despite having a showmance, Bowie is very levelheaded the whole time while Priya is stupid enough to fall for Julia even though she already knows her. (Even herself know that)

Raj was never going home while Caleb is always on the chopping block.

rajbow subtly show you their cute moments while priyaleb just shove those cute moments to your face.

The most important different is: Both Raj and Bowie have their own plots and interaction with others while Caleb and Priya share the same plot and they need others to interact with them first or otherwise it just the two of them.

yes, precisely!!! when compared to rajbow, priyaleb is on the opposite side of the spectrum, one where it's way more messy. and maybe it's because we got so much screen-time with priyaleb—wayyyy too much time if you ask me—but the mess was just... a mess, and not even in a fun way. drama can be fun to watch! and it should be fun to watch in a show named total drama! but because priya and calen were so intricately connected to one another instead of standing as their own characters, they fell flat.

well, as bowie said in season 1, "straight couples are messed up" 🧍🏾‍♀️

Those relatives that we received from flipdecks have been unexpected so far. From Kaleb and Trishna being cousin to Yoko and Prudence being mother and daughter.

Meanwhile the ones most of us thought will be relative turns out to be none related, like Petrona and Iggy.

My favorite battle royale character is Satomi. The second one is Yuichiro.

My top 10 for now are Satomi, Yuichiro, Mitsuru, Haruka, Izumi, Ryuhei, Oda, Sho, Yukie and…um…Kazushi (Please hear me out…)

I like them either because their original appearance attracts me (Satomi, Yuichiro, Mitsuru, Sho and Yukie) or I have new view of them from other’s headcanon or my own headcanon. (Oda, Ryuhei, Izumi and Kazushi)

I love Haruka already but I love her even more after seeing Angel’s Border.

Frankly I don’t hate anyone, even though I do occasionally bad mouth Shinji or Kauzo. But It’s only because I found them a bit overrated.

Funny neither of our top 10 have any primary characters.

I generally really love your top 10! I think Mitsuru is pretty popular, but it's nice to see Izumi, Toshinori, Sho and Ryuhei represented too. I don't often find people who mention them! I would love to hear what your headcanons are that makes you like them. I tend to really love side characters, I don't know why. It's like I get tired of all the "screen time" the main characters get, and prefer to cling to what little we get of the background ones!

Yuichiro is such a sweetheart. I love the scene with him, Tadakatsu and Mitsuko in the novel. I really wish that had been in the movie.

Satomi is interesting, and I would have loved to get a her POV in the novel, to see how she was spiraling with the lack of sleep and paranoia! Haruka is great, I'm so glad we got Angel's Border and that her feelings for Yukie were confirmed. It's amazing how many actually guessed she was a lesbian just based on the book (me included), and it felt so validating to get that storyline. I wish we would get something like AB for more characters!

I'm over my Shinji hatred for the most part, but I agree with you, I felt he was super overrated. Kazuo I will probably bad mouth until the day I die lol. And Fumiyo, because I'm still bitter she basically took over Izumi's part in the manga!

If we have a Team Boss for the future game. I hope the members of that team are: Goenitz, Krizalid and Shion.

They forms this team for their own purposes and using the other two teammates for their benefits. (Just like Geese using Wolfgang Krauser and Mr.Big for his own good in KOF96 except this time all three of them will do that this time.)

I just think it will be great to see them come back at once. And it will be great to see other characters’ reaction to that team as well. (Especially Team Ikari Warrior.)

(Also I was the anon that come out of that idea of Sylvia become a member of Team Korea.)

Here they are!

I said I was gonna make OCs based on Victoria and Albert and I did it.

Albert (he/him) is a German Caribou who loves fitness and has social anxiety (but does his best to hide it). He's smart but can be insensitive sometimes without realizing it.

Vicky (she/her) is a British and German hybrid of a faverolles chicken and a chipmunk (I got this idea from @hhytheking :D). She is very short but feisty and loves fine cuisine. She's confident but can be a bit too confident sometimes.

Side note: Vicky is supposed to be way shorter than Albert but I drew her bigger so you could see her details better.

Yes, they are in love of course lol. I had a lot of fun with these designs, especially Vicky's! Hope you guys like them! :)

You are not the only one who thought they are going to kiss. But that hug is pretty good as well. With Chef question did they love each other or hate each other.

But the most important thing is Julia actually come to Dock of Shame, and her whole gestures thought out the scene. They really want us to believe they are not in love, eh?

the scene was romantic either way. to me. and chef's question made me laugh so hard lol he was truly confused!

and YES i'm so glad they at least added that scene during mk's elimination. it fully shows just how close julia grew to mk, especially when you compare it to how mk's elimination went during s1. mkulia for life <3

So what’s your opinion of this season’s ships?

the short version: rajbow is still peak, ripaxel is funny, and priyaleb is meh. more rambling details under cut:

rajbow: i feel like i say this a lot but i loveddddddd the cheating plot (i never ever thought i'd say these words, even though they have a different meaning than world tour lol). bowie's one of my fav reboot characters, and the way we got to see his character development through his internal battle with morality was so interesting. raj really makes him want to be a better person. that's what a relationship should be like! and to see a queer couple show that lesson is so huge for me as a queer person. rajbow will always have a special place in my heart. also they are so cute like LOOK AT THEM AHHHH!!!!!

ripaxel: i know people were mad about this one, some for valid reasons. ripper was so focused on getting axel's attention and somehow breezed through half of this competition while doing some of the most ridiculous things. and once ripper finally scored, a lot of axel's remaining scenes were with ripper just making out, so we didn't get a ton of an individual arc for her either. however. i am unable to take this ship 100% seriously. (i've tried! i just can't! personally!) and because i can't take it 100% seriously, that's what makes it so hilarious to me. they're both weirdos. and that somehow works, even with their negative tension from first season. it's like that one teenage couple from high school. there's a 99% chance they won't last, but they're gonna kiss as if they're gonna last lifetimes together. idk. they were funny. to me. so i enjoyed it. (poor ripper tho... i wonder how they'll be in the finale if they get a scene together.)

priyaleb: this one is... ok. i don't outright hate it. personally, though, i find it just a littleeeee bit boring and not needed. i won't lie: there are some tiny points where i'm like, "oh they are so cute actually!" because we get to see priya with this teenage crush, something she probably never got to have due to her upbringing. and her and caleb have these moments of banter that i enjoy. like these specific scenes from eps 6 + 8 had me all smiley:

but overall, i could've lived without this plot. not because priya lasted a long time last season already (i like priya! i'll be sad when she goes!), but because i feel like there's wayyyy more to priya than some miscommunication within a romance plot. like, why are we acting like priya's upbringing was anything healthy? where is the attention on that??? and most of caleb's character is tied to priya at this point. i feel as if i made a caleb compilation of his scenes from this season, most would have him going "ah, gotta make sure i'm in this alliance with priya," or "ah, i have a crush on priya now." this is the farthest a returning first boot has made it—which is huge!—but we're getting a miscommunication plot with him. sigh 💔 maybe we'll get more individual caleb if priya goes home before him, but it still sucks we didn't get to see him as an individual as much.

So about ep 8, how did Zee knew these secrets anyway? Because those are rather personal and I don’t think Julia or Chris will tell him any secrets they don’t want anyone know.

you know, i was wondering about that!!! i'm thinking zee happened to overhear or notice a lot of these things in passing and just... decided to bottle it all in, since he's very big on being everyone's friend. maybe the whole caleb situation was his final straw before he got to air everyone out, not to embarrass them intentionally, but to "clear the air amongst friends" i guess. because friends shouldn't judge each other so there's no need for secrets! and julia was right: it did make him feel much better! ...or something like that aha

If there’s a third season in the future, what do you hope to see?

Mine are:

1. More Mkulia. And they somehow find a way to gain control of their team.

2. Raj and Wayne got separated into two teams, I want to see how they deal with their own team and their thoughts of compete against each other.

3. Add two more characters and make it 3 teams with 6 person.

4. An unexpected villain arc for a originally good character and let them win. (I kinda want to see Damien got one after he knows Total Drama well enough.)

gonna ramble about my s3 wishes under cut. i'll probably come up with more as the days go by:

i just think we deserve a girl vs girl finale. too many missed opportunities for one. i need to see girl success.

i love julia, but let's give the main antagonist role to someone like, oh i dunno, the contestant who has sworn vengeance on this cast during both of her eliminations maybe? (i'm looking at you scary girl. keep your word! make it to the dang merge and make their lives hell! i've written an analysis for you and everything!)

i don't even care if nichelle wins anymore (and that's saying a lot coming from me), but can we PLEASE just PLEASE get her to the merge at least? i am so sick of people calling her niche-L like STOP 😭 can we TRY with her character instead of making it into a gag? just a little attempt?? for me??? (as you can see, i am staring hard at the only two contestants from this gen who didn't make the merge in both seasons)

give us a challenge at night. give us a swimming challenge. give us alt outfits. give us new settings. give us some creativity and fun. we deserve it. the island is cool but imagine if we were quite literally anywhere else. your ratings will peak.

i would also like to see the hockey bros on separate teams, especially after wayne has seemingly gotten over his fear of being on a different (hockey) team than raj. it would be interesting for their characters imo!

no central romance plot i BEG. put that big binder AWAY. not saying we can't have a romance plot (i think they can be cute and nice!), but let's just make sure it isn't the central plot or i'll lose my mind <3

make mkulia canon you cowards. i know i just said no central romance plot but like. we can still make this a subplot if we try hard enough.

i need more drama in total drama. like. let's make the drama STICK instead of having it rushed and solved in the span of an episode. long lasting tension leaves the audience gagged and wanting more. if we gotta make longer seasons then so be it! (oh how i miss the longer seasons...)

if y'all don't make emma and bowie talk next season like........... do not separate the besties like this! bring them back!

and speaking of my fav white girly—we need her to get some plot. i do not ever want to see her eliminated the way she was ever again. that was heartbreaking!

if we can't make a world tour/musical season happen again, first of all, BOOOOO THAT SUCKS, and second of all, can we at least squeeze in a musical episode? i gotta hear them sing, i'm sorry... my musical phase is never-ending i fear

Priyaleb is a good ship! And they were at their best in the last five episodes of season 2.

It feels so weird to see season 2’s boot order being such a mess since it was made right after they finished making season 1. Yet season 1’s boot order make more sense.

At the merge of season 1, Bowie have an alliance and a clear plan to get himself to the final 2 after he voted off his own allies.

Still season 2 focus too much on the romantic story line.

Sometime I do wonder if two groups of people are in charge of the season: One in charge of season 1 while the other one in charge of season 2.

s2 reboot really is a wild difference from s1 reboot! i actually grew to think the s1 elimination order is perfect the way it is; the stories we got were really good. (i think it's my fav season now. sorry world tour, nostalgia loses </3) even though i was bummed about some of my favs leaving so early, i also thought the characters who stayed were genuinely interesting and captivating. especially the final three! i lovedddd the final three!

and then the s2 elimination order... well i think that was a bit all over the place in comparison aha. a lot of that stems from my thoughts about too many actions happening off screen resulting in a lot of eliminations that felt so forced, but that romance plot was another bugger for me. (though there are probably others who didn't mind or even loved those aspects from this recent season. different tastes and all that) overall, i have a big love/hate relationship with s2 lol.

i think td is written with a bunch of ideas in mind, and since these characters were split into two seasons, it created a bit of chaos. no doubt the writing room is a bit like the fans on social media, wanting their favs to stay longer than others. (terry confirmed this in a tweet reply to me once :D) it's ultimately a collective agreement and s2 was just that: a collective agreement on what they thought the story would best look like.

About the Character bingo. Chase, Ripper and Scary Girl.

if side eye was a character trait, it'd be chase. like why is he Like That 🧍🏾‍♀️ (to think i originally thought he'd basically be who caleb turned out to be prior to the reboot's release lol)

ripper:

he grew on me a lil after s2 of the reboot, but i'm still side eyeing him. he's mastered the art of patheticism truly. i gotta give his determination some slight props, even though he's like... That 🧍🏾‍♀️

scary girl:

my daughter actually. i'm a scary girl defender ☝🏾 she grew on me a lot more after s2 even with just 2 eps of screentime. her trying (+failing at) changing herself to seem more "normal" within the cast Struck A Cord with lil ol neurodivergent me ngl

Personality-wise, what’s the difference between Raj and Wayne? (Or is there any?)

to me, the difference between raj and wayne is very slight, but present nonetheless.

wayne is a captain and it truly shows in certain challenges, from s1ep2 when he took the pirate captain roll, to the s2 finale with his (ridiculous but) quick line of thinking during that final stretch of the challenge. i've also noticed wayne is more susceptible to laughing at things others most likely wouldn't, from julia's goofy scream in s2ep2, to holding raj down a toilet in that deleted scene:

(side note: why ripper look so mad? like bro you've done worse 😭 okok moving on)

meanwhile raj seems to be a captain as well, just in a different light from wayne. he's ready to follow wayne's lead at basically any given moment—as alternate captains do, truly—and even in those rare moments when raj is separated from his best friend, he's able to come up with his own (ridiculous) ideas that work out in the end, kind of like what he did in s2ep11 to avoid the dog. he can be more on the awkward side with a train of thought that causes some stutters or rambling; we mostly see this within his relationship with bowie:

so uh yeah. extremely similar characters with these tinyyyy traits to make them distinct. to me, at least.

The fear challenge itself is pretty decent. It’s the character that are overall boring. While Wayne is decent (Fear to fight his best friend.) the other three are too basic.

I wish the challenge have two parts: The first part is their surface fear like what they fear (Snake, Lightning and Spider) and the second part is their inner fear (Things like fear to be betrayed or being along.)

But yes, it’s really is a lost opportunity for not having Damien here. I also want Scary Girl to be here as I am curious what’s she fears?

YEAH like there was potential in the challenge itself! it's just... the stuff they presented along with the character arcs each character was going through was so, well, boring.

when you compare that ep to something like the face your fears ep in season 1, you notice how bland it is. i suppose the ep would hit different if you liked that whole priya vs julia with caleb as the middleman plot, but for people like me, i was hoping to get more focus on the fears themselves. and like you said, some form of combination of surface level and inner fears, that would have been so interesting. or at least (once again) focus more on the fearsssss.

i'll never get over damien not being in that ep tho. like that opportunity was RIGHT there 😭 at least if he got eliminated in that ep he would have some more substance to his arc.
