cold, empty, lonely
have a short little fic about death and disconnection :)
cw: canonical character death, description of dead body
~
He finds her body on the side of the hill, crumpled upon itself, red hair dulled against the cold, yellow grass.
Bdubs doesn't touch her, at first. He just watches, waits for some kind of movement.
In the weak light of the moon, the chill wind that blows almost makes it look like her chest is slowly rising and falling. Her hair flicks up a bit, blown like the grass around, and her clothes shift a little, and if Bdubs squints his eyes almost shut and stares at one spot long enough, he could swear that she was just sleeping.
They aren't actually breathing, though. And when he opens his eyes wide, lashes not blurring his vision, he can see again the red that shines against her grey shirt.
They had brought him her armor. It was cheap stuff, iron, held together by whatever leftover straps she'd been able to scrounge up after her good set of armor had been claimed as loot by the Red Army. They hadn't wanted the new set, and had brought it, bloodstained, as proof of their conquest.
Bdubs had pleaded with them for what felt like hours for the location of her body.
He needn't have. He could have looked out a back window and seen it, if he hadn't been so distracted with everything going on.
Their body lies just above the little river that feeds into the Crastle's moat. The river has begun to freeze at the edges, little broken-off sheets of ice forming from the rocky shore, frost touching the red-spattered stones and pebbles. And their body is just beyond that, where the stones and grey dirt turn to dying grass and bare shrubs as the slope climbs upward into a squat hill, alone in the darkness of the night.
He stands there, at a distance, watching their body for probably ten minutes.
Her body looks so lonely.
Cold. Empty.
Lonely.
Bdubs sighs (his breath puffs out in a mist before him—winter really is coming, isn't it?) before crossing the distance between them, crouching down beside the body.
Their flower crown—the one that Bdubs had collected the flowers for—has come apart, a crushed halo of daisies, partially obscured by their hair, a petal weaved in here and there.
Her hair is long, tangled, spilling out around her head like the rays from the sun, curling around her throat and caught under her body.
With a gentle touch, Bdubs brushes their hair away from their grey lips, where some strands have stuck.
Her cheeks are almost colorless, the few stubborn freckles faded. Their lashes are long, soft, forehead unwrinkled and face expressionless.
There's no twist of her mouth, no scrunch of their eyes, no desperation in their brows to denounce pain. There's nothing else, either, though—no peaceful relaxation, no joyful grin, no angry glower.
She's simply blank. It's as if she never lived, never felt.
Her face is cold. Empty. Lonely.
There's still sticky blood on her shirt, her chest slick with it, the ground stained. A lucky stab, straight to the heart. A cleaving of lifeless flesh, right through their chest, somehow missing the bone frame that once held the body together.
Bdubs pulls her shirt a little bit, rearranging it to cover the ugly, open wound. He's not quite sure why he does it. He'll just bury her, anyways.
But he does. He touches the shirt, stiff and sticky with blood, and tugs it over the wound. He pulls more of her hair away, where it's become plastered to her body with blood. He arranges her body so that it isn't half curled on its side, but fully on its back.
They look almost as they always did. Just missing everything that made her alive.
She wasn't supposed to die first. It was always supposed to be him, everyone knew it. Not her.
They probably worked so well together because of how reasonable she was. Bdubs doesn't like being reasonable, likes to kill first and ask questions later—or, if he feels like it, let them sell him a coffin first and ask questions later. She preferred to observe, keep track of enemies and allies, sneak around quietly behind the scenes and make chaos of her own kind.
Which is why Bdubs should have died first. He's so publicly provocative of the Reds, so eager to spill blood.
If anything, she was fairly peaceful. Not genuinely, but she always chose to take a step back from conflict and find a way to profit from it.
It was their Red blood that got to them, Bdubs thinks idly. They hadn't been Red for long enough to let the bloodlust acclimate, and had just gone on the hunt rather than let it simmer.
And now they're dead.
He needs to bury the body. Preferably now, when it's night yet and the battles haven't resumed.
He doesn't wait any longer.
He gets to work, picking up the shovel that he'd brought with him and stabbing it into the earth. Again. Again. Again.
The rough wood of the handle pokes into his palms, but he doesn't stop. The pain reminds him that he needs to keep going.
Every so often he pauses, wipes the sweat off his forehead, looks over at the body.
Then he keeps shoveling.
The world has lightened by the time he finishes, bathing the hill in grey. Bdubs shakes some clumps of dirt off his shovel, whacking it against the ground a couple of times.
Without further ado, he hops out of the shabby hole he's dug and tosses the shovel to the side. He gets on his knees, back creaking, and looks down at his hands.
He should wash them before he touches her, probably. Dirt is packed into every crease of his palm, his nails torn and muddy, grit between his fingers. A couple of splinters sticking out of his skin here and there.
Not that there's any point to washing them. Dirt goes to dirt and whatnot.
So, gently, Bdubs gathers up the body in his arms. He slowly turns, scooting a little on his knees, until he's facing the shallow grave.
Bdubs sets the body down, carefully, supporting the neck so their head doesn't loll. He moves their arms over their body, one limp hand placed over the other.
They wouldn't have liked this. They didn't like being touched.
He doesn't touch her any more, then.
Bdubs grasps the first handful of dirt, holds his closed fist over the grave. A couple of grains of dirt spill out, running down her shirt.
He holds it there, for longer than he should. Long enough that his arm grows weary. Long enough that somewhere, a bird starts chirping its wake-up call.
He needs to let go.
Probably, the worst part of all this is that he's doing it alone, he thinks absently. It's always been the two of them.
And there are others who could be here. Other friends. Other allies. Enemies, even. He shouldn't be alone in this. He shouldn't have to bury her alone.
It still looks like her.
He drops the dirt. It lands on her face, on her grey lips, on her bloodless cheeks.
Then he picks his shovel back up and gets to work, heaving load after load of dirt back into the grave.
And when Bdubs returns in the windy morning, the impromptu occupants that he'd left in the Crastle the previous night are all gone. It's just him, in a small castle that used to belong to two.
And Bdubs is cold.
Empty.
Lonely.

Okay promo time!!
SKHFJLDSHGDJKLS Shaun xDD
Lol yeah talk to her, not them xD
O P E
That is the tea o.o
What I was GONNA say at the end there of the last bit too lol, that is the tea xDD.
Oof y'all yeah, start getting some of your feelings sorted out 😬. Like it doesn't have to be immediate but still. . .
That's the last of my final thoughts! Now it's time for the. . .
REVIEW
Okay I LOVED this episode :D. It was fun, had new characters, cool patients, and the D R A M A. I'm really interested in seeing what comes next :D.
Quick overview of everyone!
Lea, love you hon, keep being amazing ❤️❤️❤️🥰
Same for Jordan but also GIIIRL, that guyyy :DD?? Like he's a junior resident so wait a little bit long at least lol, but stillll!! Good for you 🥰🥰. Lol turns out he's gay - that would be wild xD. Anyway, love you <333.
Newbies!! It seems like they'll be interesting characters :DD. I'm intrigued on what they'll (writers) do with their (newbies) characters, so we'll have to see what comes!! They seem like they'll be good and unique additions to the team though :)).
By the way, having just watched the first minute: Ohhh okay so we see Lim here
Ahh there's the dude! Dang the juxtaposition of this to the end of the episode xdd
Oh so Glassman was lying. Like, being sarcastic. Lol I should've realized that XDD
Anyway, Glassman!
THIS MAN BETTER WATCH HIMSELF
I swear if something happens to him. . . I've got my eye on you my guy -.-
Anyway, I'm really glad he can do an extra little bit to help support Lim through this :)). Even if he's a little passive aggressive to Shaun about it xd 😬. But, it seems like that will come more into play next time and we will think about the other possibilities! Seeeeems interesting :)!
Asher! My boy, I love you :DD. And honestly yeah like I said seeing his growth in the way he interacts with Powell! He's not as hot headed anymore and that's really nice and interesting to see :D. Also I loved Jerome in the few bits we got of him 🥰🥰🥰. And Asher was iconic in that last scene lol xD. And the rest as usual (like the "awkwardd" and "No" moments lol) 😂😌🥰. Hmm, that felt like it needed a laughing emoji, but I'm not sure. Eh, anyway.
Park and Morgan! Y'all the ARGUING 😭😭😭. Seriously, as Andrews said, you really need to sort it out xdd. It is funny though lol. I just don't want to see it get a patient hurt or killed 😬 :/ :(. I mean or anyone else but if they're not a patient I feel like it would be more like emotionally lol.
Andrews, loved you supporting Like to the best of your ability :). Also bro really did just say "yup you can fire her" and left xD. Maybe not always the best decision, but to be fair it was Shaun's (decision), and also, iconic xD.
Now, Lim. Dude that physically hurt to watch 😭.
Okay maybe not PHYSICALLY but still dude DD':. It was rough xdd. And not like, seeing her limitations or whatever hurt, but seeing her frustration - FEELING her frustration. It was hard man xdd. But, it was really great to see her fighting for a way to keep working and doing what she loves, and all the others helped her :) :'DD. That was really amazing <33. All that angst and good stuff in one episode. . . But honestly emotions are just like that! Even when you succeed you can still feel sad. And all those other feelings (that she was feeling specifically lol) as well. I'm scared for the future (for the ~dramaaa~) but also so invested in what happens next :).
And finally, Shaun :D! My boy did so well on being a new attending! Did he make some mistakes? Yes! Did he ask for help? Yes! Did he do a GREAT JOB? HECK YES :DDD. I'm honestly just so proud of him :)). Though I do know we will have D r a m a with a capital D next episode lol. Still, I loved him in this one and I'm sure that despite the complicated feelings and opinions and all that that will surely come into play next time. The drama is ramping, and I'm excited to follow it and see where it goes! Let's go, we'll see :).
Overall, this was such a great episode, and I'm really interested in seeing what happens next! It's sure to be crazy. This has been a fun episode! Great cases and individual storylines. Yay!!
I really liked this episode, and I think I'll love next week's too. This has been my review of. . .
The Good Doctor, Season 6, Episode 2: Change of Perspective
Hopefully the episodes keeping being as good as today was! I'm really excited for next week. I'll be back then for my review of. . .
The Good Doctor, Season 6, Episode 3: A Big Sign
See you guys for the next episode!!

BNHA class 1-A boys and their texting styles:
Bakugou: *CAPS LOCK*, "Fuck, shit, mf, etc.", *excessive swearing*, "?!?!", "BAHAHAHAHA, PFFFT" "🖕" (only emoji he ever uses), proper grammar and punctuation most of the time and always spells everything right, will leave people on read out of pure spite almost every time, nicknames for everyone and constantly comes up with new ones, gets kicked out of the class group chat a lot- mostly for kicking Deku though the lovesick fool is always the one to add his blond bitch boy back
Deku: "???", daily "gm!, hru, wyd?, u good?, gnnn!", "i-"/"-"'s a lot, ":D, :), >:), :(, -_-, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, etc.", "loll, hehe, HA", "😊✨💗" (only positive emojis except when he's talking to Bakugou then maybe a possible 🙄), texts back as soon as he can and apologizes excessively when it takes a while, uses mostly lowercase letters and no punctuation but spells everything right with good grammar, sometimes swears but censors
Kirishima: "BROOOO, LETS GOOO, NO WAY MAN!" "Dude, bro, man, my guyyy" ":DDD, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯", "LMAO, PFFFT" "😎😅❤️👍", almost no punctuation ever besides a ! after almost everything-, needs autosuggest to spell right but it betrays him a lot, responds immediately no matter what he's doing, only low-key swears and never at someone like "damn, shit, etc."
Todoroki: "...", *no emojis or emoticons ever*, propper punctuation and grammar as well as perfect spelling every time, got very annoyed at autosuggest so he turned it off, turned off the emoji keyboard as well, took him forever to understand abbreviations and slang.. still doesn't really get it and swore to himself he'd never use it in his life, responds when he feels like it but won't leave someone on read unless it's his father or by accident, never swears
Iida: "!!!", "tHis iS nOt aN aPPrOpRiaTe tOpiC!!!", "😠‼️ 👍👎", constantly getting kicked out of the class group chat (usually by bakusquad members) for being too controlling- even leaving by himself sometimes, has great grammar and punctuation and all but autosuggest also hates him and he gets laughed at a lot for his terrible typos, dose not swear and scolds others for doing so, responds to people quickly occasionally leaving them on read if it's nothing important or he forgets
Denki: "Ooooo~", ":D, >:D, :), :(, etc." "😉😋🤠", "Bro, sis, dude, girl", *inappropriate jokes intensify* (though he always apologizes), "im not stupid im just gAy, lol im dying", "LMAOOO, XD, AHAHAHA", doesn't even bother trying to spell anymore or use any type of proper grammar, gets some weird autocorrects but just rolls with it and concerns everyone, is a dumbass 24/7 and literally almost no one understands what he texts, would never leave someone on read and responds quick
Sero: a mix of Kirishima and Denki, doesn't talk a lot though and when he does it's usually just to ask for homework help or to annoy Bakugou, forgets to respond a lot so he leaves people on read by accident.
Tokoyami: *dry*, "I'm dead inside.", *big words that make Denki's brain hurt*, rarely talks, only types maybe up to three words max in a text, perfect grammar and punctuation, also turned off autosuggest so he had perfect spelling as well, leaves everyone on read for a long while before responding
Aoyama: "✨✨✨" ...that's literally it- he just sends sparkles with every text and rarely comes on to chat anyways, will leave someone on read because he doesn't like them
Ojiro, Kouda, and Satou: Want to text people but always think they'll be annoying, go on the group chat sometimes to talk but usually see chaos and just spectate instead, would never leave someone on read except for maybe Kouda and only because he's shy or doesn't know how to respond- or both, calm texting, no swearing and usually good grammar and spelling except sometimes Satou who has pretty terrible spelling and makes a lot of typos
Shouji: No one even knows he's in the group chat, barely anyone remembers he actually has a phone and if someone does text him he usually only gives quick one or two word responses
Mineta: *censored*, got kicked from the group chat after about 15 minutes by Bakugou when he came on and saw he was added, no one protested
Shinsou: got added by Denki before he joined class 1-a, "mhm, mk, whatever", "-_-", *also pretty dry*, leaves everyone on read unless they bug him a lot because he hates people but still doesn't want to be rude, has average spelling and grammar but again he almost never talks so it's not very apparent
