Hi , i see you always posting news and stuff about every team amd i’m new to hockey and want to know more about the sport and the teams so do you know how could i do that or what should i watch?? ^^
Hi there anon!!! Nice to meet you :) I'd love to impart a little wisdom on you!
Unfortunately, you're going to have to be a little more specific here.
Are you primarily interested in the NHL? (Or do you want to follow minor leagues in the Americas such as the AHL, or the major junior leagues such as the CHL or USHL, or would you prefer European hockey leagues like the Swiss NL, German DEL, or Russian KHL?)
Do you want to follow one team extremely closely or have several favorites you track? (Like personally, I specialize in Devils hockey and can tell you way too much about it, but I track most of the teams of the NHL to some extent so I can analyze and discuss them if prompted to. Some people only really care about one team; others choose to enjoy one team from each division, for example, so as to always be rooting for someone.)
Do you prefer the analytical side of hockey or would you rather follow the narratives? (Cap structures, rulebooks, drafts, and all that can get quite complex but they're super rewarding - at least for me personally. Other fans choose not to worry too much about the analytics and prefer just to watch the games and enjoy the narratives of teams.)
Personally, I picked up a TON of knowledge from my Discord friend groups. TheBrattPack, noted Devils Twitter user, has a Discord server and it was a MAJOR reason I fell so in love with hockey. Great people, great atmosphere. Another Discord server I really like is the Reddit Panthers server - I don't know its invite status, but a Cats friend shot me the link because one of the people there livestreams the games a solid 90 seconds before my high seas sites. Really nice and welcoming community as well.
Another place to learn hockey is YouTube. Steve Dangle, who recently left SportsNet, is one of my personal favorites - his Dang-Its and Hat-Picks videos are really good to show you some of the things considered Really Bad and Really Good. He also has LFR (Leafs Fan Reaction) where he goes over every Leafs game and points out highlights and lowlights. There's also The Hockey Guy (Shannon) who talks about everything NHL - he is really strong breadthwise to learn about many teams and their strengths (and he does videos for every game), but depthwise you might want to look at other sources. If you want funny, try UrinatingTree's NHL videos - his commentary is hysterical.
Even here on Tumblr, though, there are a couple of super informative blogs. I'd like to think I'm one of them, and you can always drop in my inbox with questions! No question is "stupid", really; we all have to start somewhere. @nhlupdate is really good for general updates on the league and questions, and I recently discovered @reavenedges-lies as well - Ren has some great takes and analysis on the sport, and even taught me a thing or two about goaltender interference :).
But yeah, I think that's the basics of it. See what you're looking for in your hockey fandom and go from there. I can't answer what you should watch without knowing what you're interested in - what teams catch your eye? You might root for a local team, a team who has players you like, or even just pick a logo and go from there. Every team is unique and has its own strengths and challenges. You might find, for instance, that rooting for a team like the Flyers, who are entering a rebuild and won't be successful for a few years, is unrewarding. On the other hand, maybe you want to choose an underdog and avoid a team like the Oilers for that reason. It's all up to you. So let me know what team(s) you're interested in and we can go from there!

William De Kova White (born January 28, 1934) is a former baseball first baseman who played for the New York / San Francisco Giants (1956, 1958), St. Louis Cardinals (1959–65, 1969), and Philadelphia Phillies (1966–68). He was an eight-time All-Star and seven-time Gold Glove winner, who earned a championship as a top contributor to the 1964 World Series Champions. In 1989 he was elected President of the National League. He served as NL president until he retired in 1994. He became a full-time sportscaster after his playing career ended in 1969, and was the play-by-play man and color analyst for New York Yankees television and radio broadcasts for 18 years. He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio in 1952, and was both president and salutatorian of his class. He then stayed in-state to attend Hiram College from 1953 to 1955. In both high school and college, he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football. He earned a sports program on KMOX radio in St. Louis while he was still playing for the Cardinals. Following a trade to the Phillies, he did a program there. He became a sportscaster for WFIL-TV in Philadelphia. He became the first African-American to broadcast NHL games when he called several games of the Philadelphia Flyers. In 1971, he joined the New York Yankees' broadcast team. He called Yankee games from 1971 to 1988, most often teamed with Phil Rizzuto and Frank Messer. White did the team's broadcasts on both radio and television during most of that stretch. He was the first regular African American play-by-play announcer for a major-league sports team. Outside of baseball, he was part of the coverage of the Winter Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984. The Yankee organization showed their appreciation following his years in the broadcast booth when they selected him to receive their Pride of the Yankees Award in 1990. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence https://www.instagram.com/p/CoAPsHqL9An/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Summary of Hoogvilegers characters written by someone who doesn't speak or read Dutch and has only watch 3 out of 8 episodes so far
Main Characters
Rutger de Man: The reason I did this stupid endeavor. Very cute, like extreamy good looking, Truly an Adonis. He's a little cocky. Tragic past but good at being in Air Force. The actor is going to be in Wheel of Time on Amazon prime, so if you're reading this post but aren't a mutual of mine you've probably become obsessed with him too (check out Only Friends on Tubi 😜)
Layla Martinez: Certified badass girl but not quite the full trope. She's the smart voice of reason, I like her. She hits the asshole guy in the head with a big stick. Eventual love interest for Rutger (question mark smiley face)
Guus don't know his last name: I think he's the comic relief...oh fuck I just realized this show is a Harry potter reskin...I'll come back to that in a second. But Guus is Nice, good with girls and a bit a bad things magnet so far.
Dennis: The dick who gets hit with a stick. He is the most baffling of the four. We meet him when Rutger beats him in a drag race(the car kind not the fun kind) and he hates Rutger with a red hot passion after that. What's odd is dispite the fact Dennis tried to kill Guus that one time and was ko'd by layla as mentioned above, Dennis Layla and Guus seem to get along ok but the kid who beat him in a race holds the spotlight of his anger.... The Dutch function a little different from what I'm used to vendetta wise.
HP reskin with fighter pilots
Rutger =Harry
Layla = Hermione
Guus= Ron
Dennis=Draco(he even has a Crab and Goyal type gang)
Good show so far.

State of Philadelphia sports
***I want to start off my first blog post with my thoughts on the current state of Philadelphia sports teams.  I feel if you continue to read my content it is important to understand where I stand on each team.
  In season: Philadelphia 76ers
I will start with the first place Sixers with a top three, if not THE MVP frontrunner in Joel Embiid.  My unbiased opinion believes he is the MVP at this point in time.  When the Sixers have their starting 5 they are undefeated.  You have to love this stat from the Sixers and it is a great thing to see in a season that had a shortened off-season where the Sixers had new pieces and a new coaching staff.
Finally a win without Embiid.  What a win it was and it should be a morale and confidence boost for the team.
Overall I can't complain about the Sixers.  Sure, there are some things I wish they were doing better, but they're in first and I'm happy about that (especially if they are in first and can still play a lot better). Saving the best for last shout out to Glenn "Doc” Rivers.  The organization was in need of a fresh mind and Doc has the boys playing at a high level.  He was a great hire and I think the biggest addition to the team in the off-season (yes, bigger than Morey and the Al Horford trade).
To finish off my thoughts on the Sixers, I would ask if you believe this season is finals or bust?  Not sure I am ready to answer that, but the Eastern Conference Finals are a must.
In Season: Philadelphia Flyers
Just like their Wells Fargo Center roommates the Flyers are also in first place.  I cannot say watching the Flyers has been easy this season.  They don't look great in any of the 3 zones.  D-Zone is a mess and they turn the puck over way too much.  They are scoring a lot but the offensive zone hasn't been great either and they need to shoot the puck much more.  At times in games they decide they want to get more pucks to the net and this creates more opportunities but also always them to cycle the puck and get their legs moving when the defense is standing still.
Although it was a couple games ago I did not love the benching of TK.  Goal scorers are streaky and he started the season hot and cooled off some.  Also he is a glue/chemistry guy and the Flyers are better with him in the line up; it is as simple as that.  Even if he is not playing his best he is still a danger to score every night and defenses have to game plan for Konecny.
People always say good teams find ways to win when they are not playing well.  That might be the case for this Flyers team at the moment.  They have the most wins in the East Division despite not playing their best hockey.  Further Coots (best player) is still hurt and we see how the Sixers play without Embiid (best player), so at least the Flyers have been able to win games without Couturier.  Once again they need to start playing better but at the end of the day, first place.
Out of Season: Philadelphia Phillies
I honestly don't know what to think of the Phillies.  I have to start with JT Realmuto.  Getting JT back is huge and I am so pumped they signed him.  Maybe not all of Philadelphia felt this way, but somehow it felt like we were going to mess it up and let him go.  Also I believe Bryce Harper deserves to be rewarded for the contract he signed.  Harper wants to be here long term and win in Philly.  He has given himself to the Phillies Organization and I believe they owe him by bringing in top talent.  Our next big re-signing was Didi Gregorius. This was also a great move and I am excited to have Didi back in this line-up.
Even with these recent signings we all know the Phillies still need more pitching if they want to make the playoffs and contend for a World Series title.  Archie Bradley is a start for the bullpen and he should be a huge help, but a couple more arms are still needed.  Ideally the Phillies starting pitchers get better on their own and improve, but I think we have seen enough of Vince Velasquez and could really use some rotation depth.
Other than pitching I like the current state of the Phillies.  I am excited to see a full season of Didi and Alec Bohm and a full season with this line-up. The NL East title might be out of reach with the talent of Atlanta, but this should be a playoff team and if they do not find a way in the season is a failure.
Out of Season: Philadelphia Eagles
Where do I start with this one? I always have hope when it comes to the beloved Eagles.  I crave for the Eagles to be competitive and perhaps let my emotions blind me to the truth more with the Eagles.
I do think that Carson Wentz is fixable, but I am still not sure if he is the answer for the Eagles. If he gets back to his old self we hope every year is as productive as his 2017 season, but we have no way to prove that that is the player Caron Wentz is.  Let's be honest, if Wentz starts and gets back to his old self and the Eagles are winning, all our problems go away (in the short term) because we are winning.  I also like Jalen Hurts and thought he showed promise in the time he got.  He gave me more hope than Carson did last year.
Nick Sirianni is an interesting hire and I don't know too much about him, but I am not surprised they went after a Frank Reich guy. I do not have a strong opinion on the hire either way and I hope he is successful.  I was pulling for Duce Staley and believed he deserved it. I would love for him to be the head coach down the line at some point.
Their best hope at success next year is the NFC East once again being a terrible division.  If the Eagles are in a rebuild then this division is the perfect one to be in, they can rebuild and win the division at the same time.  Once you get into the playoffs you never know what can happen.
We all know the cap situation is a mess and we have a bunch of older players on expensive contracts. Ideally I would want to trade or move these contracts even if we have to "lose" the deal.  Howie should have been let go, but if he is responsible for these contracts maybe he can fix the situation.  When the Phillies won the World Series older players got long and expensive contracts.  The Phillies are still feeling the effects of that today.  I do not want the Eagles to make the same mistakes and move on as quickly as possible and getting rid of the money in the short to medium time frame is essential.
After this miserable season, we have a no name head coach and an unpopular GM.  Further, Lurie needs to take a step back and not be as involved.  For as long as I can remember (I'm 23) the Eagles have been bad at drafting.  They were bad with Andy and it wasn't much better with Doug.  We need a GM who knows how to draft and we need an owner that lets the people who know football make football decisions.  Hopefully the new coaching staff can light a fire under this team and lead them to first place in the dreary NFC East.
***Thank you for making it through my first blog.  I hope you enjoyed the content and I will try and continue to bring interesting content on our favorite sports teams.  I would love to hear feedback in the comments and any suggestions would be awesome!

CYHRA | ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM 'NO HALOS IN HELL' LAUNCH VIDEO FOR 'OUT OF MY LIFE' + ALBUM PRE-ORDER
Boosted by the success of their 2017 debut, Letters To Myself, modern melodic metal high-flyers CYHRA are using that momentum and pushing forward with a new album - the sophomore No Halos In Hell will see the light of day on November 15th via Nuclear Blast.
Tumblr media
Founded by vocalist Jake E (ex-AMARANTHE) and guitarist Jesper Strömblad (ex-IN FLAMES), CYHRA has gone from being reminiscent of the duo's former bands to having a unique identity. In fact, No Halos In Hell is one of those rare albums that defies being neatly placed in a genre box; coming out heavy and dynamic, the record is loaded with melodic vocal hooks that stay nailed to the brain for days, achieving maximum impact throughout. Fusing a relentless energy and heaviness the best way possible was CYHRA's main focus this time out. The addition of guitarist Euge Valovirta (ex-SHINING) as a full member has raised the creative process. No Halos In Hell will be available as 2 CD digipak, black vinyl or download on November 15th. You can pre-order the format of your choice here: https://nblast.de/Cyhra-NoHalosInHell
The day has also finally come for the band to unleash a music video for their first single and lead track 'Out Of My Life'. Prepare for trouble and watch the new clip, directed by Swedish mastermind Patric Ullaeus, here. Stream or download 'Out Of My Life': https://nblast.de/Cyhra-OutOfMyLife
youtube
Produced by Jacob Hansen and co-produced by the band's very own Jake E, the album is filled with 12 live-oriented songs, ensuring maximum catchiness. The full tracklist reads as follows:
01. Out Of My Life 02. No Halos In Hell 03. Battle From Within 04. I Am The One 05. Bye Bye Forever 06. Dreams Gone Wrong 07. Lost In Time 08. Kings Tonight 09. I Had Your Back 10. Blood Brothers 11. Hit Me 12. Man Of Eternal Rain The bonus CD included in the limited digipak includes 6 additional songs, 3 of them being exclusive acoustic versions.

Baseball Betting: bet on Phillies & Dodgers to continue streak!
Tumblr media
The good thing about wagering on sports this time of year is that with a plethora of activity, you may fine a soft line here or there if you probe hard enough. Two teams who are beginning to get healthy and make some noise are the Philadelphia Phillies and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Philadelphia Phillies seek to push their winning streak to 10 games for the first time in nearly 15 years when they wrap up a three-game series against resurgent Tom Glavine and the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday.
With a 5-4 win in the middle game of the series on Tuesday, Philadelphia (18-14) has won nine in a row for the first time since a 13-game streak from July 30-Aug. 12, 1991.
The streak also has allowed the Phillies to move within two games of the Mets, who sit atop the NL East and are trying to avoid their first three-game losing streak of 2006.
The City of Brotherly Love is beginning to embrace the Phil’s as both the 76ers and Flyers have been banished from their respective sports and the players are brimming with confidence. Having won 9 in a row and facing a pitcher (Glavine), you would think the Phil’s would be rock solid favorites, but the morning line has the game a pick-em!
The lefty’s last two outing have been superb however and there should be some Mets money to keep the odds attractive if you are a Cory Liddle fan. The right-hander will try to put together consecutive wins for the first time this season. Against Atlanta on Friday, he gave up three runs and five hits with a season-high three walks over six innings in a 6-3 victory that lifted the Phillies to .500 for the first time this year.
He's had success against his former team, going 4-1 with a 2.15 ERA in five outings, striking out 26 and walking just five.
Glavine (4-2, 1.94) will make the start for New York looking for his 280th career win, but also looking to beat the Phillies for the first time in 10 starts. Since last defeating Philadelphia on Sept. 19, 2002, Glavine is 0-7 with a 5.82 ERA and opponents have hit .298 against him. He has dropped his last five starts versus them, allowing 24 runs and 35 hits in 29 innings.
Overall, Glavine is 24-16 with a 3.77 ERA in his career against Philadelphia. At 40, Glavine is pitching recently like the two-time Cy Young Award winner he is. In wins April 29 over Atlanta and Thursday against Pittsburgh, the left-hander has given up just seven hits with 11 strikeouts and just three walks in 14 innings.
Take the Phillies to extend their streak!
In the other game you have two teams passing each other in the express elevator. The Dodgers are on their way to the penthouse, while Houston is freefalling to the outhouse. LA winner of 4 in a row is beginning to get production from their big name players Garciaparra, Drew and as always Jeff Kent.
On the other hand you have Astro’s slugger Lance Berkman in a terrible funk hitless in five at-bats and is 4-for-20 with no RBIs on the road trip. Only 14 of his 36 RBIs have come on the road. Tonight momentum is in the Dodger’s favorite.
Brett Tomko (3-1, 3.41 ERA) has been outstanding in his last three outings for Los Angeles, going 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in that stretch. He did not win his last outing despite allowing five hits over seven scoreless innings in a 3-0 loss to San Diego on Thursday.
"I tweaked a couple of things in the bullpen this week, and it worked. I felt more comfortable with my off-speed stuff," Tomko said. "It would have been a lot nicer if we would have come out with the win."
The veteran right-hander is 4-5 with a 4.90 ERA in 13 career starts against Houston.
Impressive Houston rookie Taylor Buchholz (2-1, 2.16) will oppose Tomko in his fifth career start. Buchholz is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA since joining the rotation on April 17.
The right-hander failed to record a decision his last time out after allowing three runs and six hits over seven innings in a 5-4 loss at Colorado last Friday.
You have to grab LA at -110!

Step #5: Ask students to name grammatical errors they make frequently that can be identified and corrected with the Find/Replace feature.
Those might include:
Two spaces: Modern usage calls for one space -- not two -- between words and sentences. If a particular student frequently inserts two spaces between words, he or she can type two spaces in the "Find What" blank and one space in the "Replace With" blank to correct that error.
I, We, Us, My, Mine: Students who frequently misuse pronouns can type each of the pronouns -- one at a time -- into the "Find What" blank, leaving the "Replace With" blank empty. Then students can decide whether to correct each word as it is highlighted.
Forbidden word list: Many English teachers have words -- "quite" and "a lot," for example -- that they do not want used in reports or essays. Students can use Find/Replace to locate and eliminate those words.
Frequently misspelled words: Does a particular student always misspell the same word --"separate," for example? He or she can use Find/Replace to make sure the word is spelled correctly.
Step #6: Students should be prepared to have an essay on a Word Doc from their English classes to proofread and edit using the newly acquired technology skill, Find/Replace. On a white sheet of paper provided by the librarian teacher, students are to make a list of 5-10 common errors he or she found in their word document essay. (You might want to review each student's list and add any errors you know that a particular student struggles with.)
Tumblr media
*Point out to students that in a 5-10 page paper, using the Find/Replace feature can save quite a bit of time, improve their paper's accuracy -- and possibly improve their final grade as well. (Day 2)
Step #7:
Finally, if students seem to understand the strategy and are ready for one more time saving suggestion, point out that they also can use the Find/Replace feature as a kind of shorthand. Explain to students that, as they type, they can use an abbreviation for frequently-used words or phrases, and then -- at the final proofreading stage - find the abbreviation and replace it with the correct word or phrase. (Day 2)
Payoff:
Help your high school students perform their best on upcoming writing assignments. Students will understand creating, editing, saving and printing documents. Copying, pasting, moving and deleting text within a document. Formatting text, such as font type, bolding, underlining or italicizing. Creating and editing tables.
Suggested Instructional Strategies:
Adapting to learning styles/multiple intelligences
Analysis of student work
Peer teaching/collaboration
Project-based learning
  Assessment:
Students are assessed on their:
Ability to identify tips to improve test performance
Ability to complete the essay proofing  in a timely fashion.
Please join the quiz with code !
(librarian will provide live quiz code with students)
Total of 10 questions
Quiz link: https://quizizz.com/print/quiz/6245398e8e6e04001de5621b
(Day 2)
As well, their final grade on future essays should improve if they use this strategy.

CYHRA // BAND RELEASE POIGNANT YET HEARTFELT LYRIC VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE 'BATTLE FROM WITHIN'
This autumn is set to be filled with a new soundtrack when modern melodic metal high-flyers CYHRA release their sophomore No Halos In Hell will see the light of day on November 15th via Nuclear Blast. Today, the band release their second single 'Battle From Within' alongside a poignant yet heartfelt lyric video. Check it out here:

Vocalist Jake E. comments: "For over 10 years I pushed my feelings aside. I thought I was strong... but in reality I just kept digging that hole deeper and deeper. One day during the writing process of 'No Halos In Hell' I was sitting by the piano and while I was singing some gibberish to make up a vocal line for one of the songs, I felt something. And when I went back to listen to what I had just recorded, I realised that this was more than just gibberish to me. I guess it was my own mind that started to process things. My brother, Fredrik, was taken away from me and my family way too early. Just as so many other human beings who decide every year to leave this earth on their own initiative. When we discussed the video, I really didn't "just" wanna do another normal lyric video. My Fiancee came up with the brilliant idea to involve the fans. We contacted our fanbase through our social media platforms, and the response was truly beyond overwhelming. We got more participants that we could fit in! The subject was close to our fans hearts - and I am eternally grateful for their participation! My brother was strong, funny, and full of life and loved to work on his boat. This song is for people like my brother. I want them to hear this song before it's too late. We only have one life! And even if you sometimes feel as though life isn't worth fighting for, trust me, it is! When I look at my kids I can't stop thinking about what a fantastic uncle he would have been, and it hurts me that he was never able to meet them. I know how much they would have loved him.  My parents lost a son. And me and my sister lost a brother.  He is forever missed and loved as we keep fighting our battle from within."

No Halos In Hell will be available as 2 CD digipak, black vinyl or download on November 15th. Pre-order now: nblast.de/Cyhra-NoHalosInHell
Founded by vocalist Jake E (ex-AMARANTHE) and guitarist Jesper Strömblad (ex-IN FLAMES), CYHRA has gone from being reminiscent of the duo's former bands to having a unique identity. The addition of guitarist Euge Valovirta (ex-SHINING) as a full member has raised the creative process to a level where, according to Jake E, "Everyone is playing to the point of what is best for the song”. No Halos In Hell is one of those rare albums that defies being neatly placed in a genre box: delivering tunes that are both heavy and dynamic, the record is loaded with melodic vocal hooks and musical earworms. Produced by Jacob Hansen and co-produced by the band's very own Jake E, the album is filled with 12 live-oriented songs, ensuring maximum catchiness. The full tracklist reads as follows: 01. Properties and Uses of Boron Carbide Powder
Tumblr media
On the off chance that you don't know about Aluminium Nitride, at that point you should realize that it is one of the hardest materials. The substance is known to hold up under physical and compound properties like precious stones. Since it seems dark or dim in shading the powder is frequently alluded as 'dark precious stone'. The substance isn't just unscented yet in addition insoluble in water.
Properties of Boron Carbide Powder
The compound is hard boron-carbon artistic and is generally utilized in ventures, in the creation of impenetrable vests, and tank guards. With a hardness measuring up to 9.3 on the Mohs scale, the compound is perceived as one of the hardest materials after cubic boron nitride and precious stone. The Elastic Modulus and crack sturdiness are a portion of the properties closer to values for precious stone.
While the fundamental substance is strong in nature, the powdered structure is delivered through the concoction response between Carbon dioxide and Boron oxide. As the warm decrease happens in an electric curve heater, the powder should be refined through various strategies. In the wake of expelling metallic debasements, the powder winds up reasonable for business use. Connect with Boron Carbon providers in case you're intending to buy the substance.
Much the same as other non-oxide materials, boron carbide is difficult to sinter. Be that as it may, 95 percent thickness can be cultivated with the assistance of hot squeezing or hot isostatic weight sintering. To accomplish sintering at a temperature somewhere in the range of 1900 and 2200 degrees Celsius, the compound must be blended with little amount of Silicon Carbide or fine Carbon.
Interestingly, Boron Carbide flaunts a high cross sectional zone and is sufficiently competent to ingest neutrons. Plus, the substance offers strength when synthetics and radiations should be ionized. The compound additionally fills in as a p-type semiconductor described by bouncing kind transport. As the band hole is equal to 2.09 eV, mid-band hole states make photoluminescence range progressively confused.
To the extent the molar mass is concerned, the compound is 55.255 g/mol with a particular gravity of 2.52. The softening point is 2763 °C (5005 °F) while the breaking point is some place more like 3500 °C. Aside from other physical properties, the substance has a thickness estimating 2.52 g/cm3.
At the point when the substance is in its typical express, the material highlights a rhombohedral crystalline structure. It is a direct result of this characteristic, a few variations can be thought without an adjustment in structure. The carbon substance may differ till a limit of 17 percent. To find out about the material, contact a Boron Carbide producer.
Utilizations of Boron Carbide Powder
Because of its hardness, Boron Carbide works as a grating when materials are to be cleaned. It is likewise utilized in the creation of cutting devices and applications like fly water cutting. Since the material is scraped area safe, it is likewise utilized in the assembling of spouts.

He signed – finally. The long national nightmare is over. That’s right: Clay Bucholz signed with the Blue Jays.
OK, I’m joking (even if Bucholz was great last year, with a 2.01 ERA in 16 starts with Arizona, so probably should have signed long ago). Obviously, I’m talking about Bryce Harper. The right-fielder is staying in the NL East by joining the Phillies and is, so far, saying all the right things – if you ignore that he said he is bringing a championship to Washington D.C. (Unless, of course, that means he’s a double-agent? Perhaps this is something we should study this year.)
There’s really nothing left to say that hasn’t been said before. Harper is great now and the Phillies have to be considered an NL East powerhouse for the next few years. Sure, the contract could one day be an albatross, but flags fly forever, don’t they? Of course, ask Ryan Howard if the World Series and NL Pennant he helped the team won saved him from criticism when he got injured and his contract was often used as a reason to criticize him.
And that’s really the issue: If you can celebrate the signing today – and you should – can you ever criticize it? Personally, I don’t think you should. But maybe I’m just an old softie who doesn’t have the resolve to like something one day and hate it the next.
Anyway, here are a few things I wrote this week:
The CPBL, the Chinese Professional Baseball League, is a growing league that is helping grow the game around the world. For many CPBL fans, they also love the Majors. Your Thursday Morning Roundup
The Phillies have struggled against the Mets for the past few seasons and especially this year. New York was seen as a team that would not be a problem for the young Phillies in their quest for an NL East crown. Instead, they’ve been a major thorn in the team’s side.
But the Phils pulled out two wins in their final three-game series last night, capping things off with a 4-0 shutout over their division rivals. Rhys Hoskins kicked things off with a solo home run in the bottom of the first and Odubel Herrera had a two-run blast in the bottom of the fourth.
Zach Eflin returned to his early season form, pitching five innings and striking out nine batters while giving up three hits.
And now, the first big series of the stretch run.
It’s a four-game meeting with the Atlanta Braves. Their magic number to clinch the division is six games. The teams will meet seven times until the end of the season. Atlanta could win three of these meetings this weekend and clinch the division.
Vince Velasquez takes the mound tonight against Kevin Gausman for the 7:35 PM start on NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Brett Brown also discussed plenty of things at his annual media luncheon on Tuesday, before Elton Brand was named general manager.
Speaking of Brand, the official announcement is today at 11 AM.
The Eagles officially brought back Jordan Matthews, wearing #80 and having sex in Buffalo, to the roster and placed Mike Wallace on injured reserve. Doug Pederson said Matthews “looked good” in his workout and will try to work him in on Sunday against the Colts.
But with Wallace on IR, that doesn’t mean he won’t be back this year.
Carson Wentz is also returning to the Eagles on Sunday and he’s finally ready to get things started.
The Birds are still banged up quite a bit:
Wednesday Injury Report
DNP: RB Ajayi (back), LB Alexander (knee), LB Gerry (groin), RB Sproles (hamstring) Limited: WR Jeffery (shoulder), T Peters (quadricep) Full: QB Wentz (knee)
— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) September 19, 2018
Outside of the offense, the Birds need to be better in the secondary after getting torched by Ryan Fitzpatrick last week.
Finally, the team added linebacker Asantay Brown back to their practice squad after Joe Walker was claimed by the Arizona Cardinals.
Oskar Lindblom and Carter Hart had a great showing at Madison Square Garden last night as the Flyers defeated the Rangers 6-4. Lindblom had two goals and an assist, while Hart stopped 25 shots in two periods of play. Corban Knight (1 G, 2 As) and Scott Laughton (3 As) had three points, each in the first period. Dale Weise, Mikhail Vorobyev, and German Rubtsov also recorded goals. Brian Elliott started the game and stopped 11 of 13 shots.
Vorobyev and Carson Twarynski have impressed so far in camp, writes Sam Carchidi:
Vorobyev, who spent two year’s in Russia’s KHL before joining the Phantoms, “had a good year last year,” Hextall said. “Maybe a little bit of inconsistency, but for the most part, he had a good year. Coming from the big rink to the small rink and transitioning [to a longer schedule] …is  a lot. He did a good job. He worked hard this summer. He was in Voorhees a lot and he worked his tail off  — and it’s showing.
“Quite frankly, he’s hungry to make this team,” added Hextall, who plans to make several roster cuts Thursday.
Twarynski, 20, a rugged 6-2, 198-pound winger who netted 45 goals in the Western Hockey League last season before a five-game stint with the Phantoms, has given the Flyers scoring and has been a physical presence down low – a combination that figures to make him an NHL mainstay one of these days. He collected an assist in Wednesday’s game and was constantly in the Rangers’ faces.
In Tuesday’s 5-1 win over the Islanders, Twaynski had a goal and a team-high four hits.
“Carsen continues to make himself known out there,” coach Dave Hakstol said after the victory over the host Isles. “He’s doing a small number of things very well. He’s keeping his game simple; he’s playing hard, skating [hard]; he’s got physicality to his game and he’s been around the net a lot. He comes up with a lot of 50/50 pucks, and because of that, he’s been on the positive side of a lot of shifts.”
The team plans to make several cuts today before their next preseason game on Friday against… the Islanders, in the Lehigh Valley.
The Flyers are also possibly hinting at a new “addition” to their team. Maybe a mascot?
Mascot or not, there’s a brand new episode of Snow the Goalie available.
