Bounty Hunter Connor returns to his roots, after the fall of Zhaitan. 

And because I couldn’t resist, a drabble under the cut

Words: 1600, just a heads up

The fall of Zhaitan was a great victory for Tyria. Connor had to agree to that.

But right now, as the Pact was celebrating, he had other business to attend to. The bounty hunter was originally hired by the Pact to provide maps of Orr, having said that he knew the lay of the land rather well. Now that they were more or less done with Orr, he didn’t really have any business with the Pact.

But he still had much to do in Orr. So he pulled away from the celebrations, hoisted his rifle over his shoulder, and continued onto what was now know as the Cursed Shore. The entrance to Arah.

There were still Risen roaming around a little, and Connor took it as his personal job to put every single one of them to rest. It was time for them to. For his people to sleep. As the last Prince of Orr, it was his duty to see his people found peace.

Oh, he may have forgotten to mention that part to the Pact. Not like they needed to know. He really didn’t want the Priory swarming him for information of the past. Not yet at least.

He wasn’t sure how he made it through time. All he remembered of the past was a war, and his father, Reza, pushing him into a gap in the Mists. And in the Mists, he slept, until Orr rose, and the enchantment broke. He supposed it was Reza’s last act of love to him.

According to the Commander,  Zhaitan took the bodies of the royal family and made them into his minions, and his father was made into something called the Sovereign Eye. He was so thankful that the Commander free him. His father was loving, peaceful and kind, he didn’t deserve that sort of end.

Reminiscing aside, Connor made his way through Arah. The sky was stormy, dark, but no sign of rain just yet. Most of the structure and architecture was gone, but Connor remembered the route back to the palace. In his mind, he could see everything as it was before the sinking.

His people in the streets, practicing magic religiously. Children playing around. Everything was generally, quite peaceful. If he closed his eyes, he could see it so clearly.

But when he opened them again, it was ruins all over. He bit his lower lip to stop the emotions from welling up in him again.

The royal palace came into view within a few minutes. What was once a majestic palace, was now reduced to nothing but concrete covered in barnacles and coral. He ran a finger over some of the broken concrete, recalling the fond days of being an absolute terror to the maids and servants in the palace. It made him smile slightly.

As he walked, he let the magic overtake his body. What he once wore as simple bounty hunting clothes for ease of movement, was replaced by a long coat of black and red. Shoes were covered up by boots, and his pants tucked into them. He brushed his hair aside, showing his face. As he should, before he approached the throne room.

It used to be covered, but now it was out in the open air for all to see. The throne chair, somehow, withstood the pressures of time and the sea, and stood tall and proud.

He could almost see himself, as a young child, playing on father’s lap. His father had once told him that he would be sitting where he sat, one day, when he became king.

Connor didn’t care about that. There was no people, no one to rule over. No one to guide anymore. The Orrians were dead, wiped off, by a foolish mistake.

All except for him. He wanted to stay with his father back then, as he should. He was a Prince of Orr, he should die with the kingdom-

But Reza had other plans.

“Go. For now, you will sleep. Preserve our history, our culture, my son. You must live. Even if it hurts. For you carry the blood of the Orrians in you now.”

He did as he was told, but it didn’t mean that it did not hurt.

When he woke, he recognized the rotting bodies of his servants, the people who used to once served him. And it pained him each time he had to put a bullet through their heads.

Standing before the throne now, he let himself be weak. For so long, he had been standing alone, mostly, fighting through all his pain. But for now…

Prince Connor wanted to be weak, in the place he used to call home.

He fell to his knees, forehead touching the cold floor in respect to the throne.

“Orr is free. Finally free,” he whispered. Tears brimming at the corners of his eyes. “Please, rest in peace, my people. My family.”

Footsteps in front of him. Who was it? There should be no one here. This was one area he kept from the Pact in particular. Connor raised his head. His green eyes widened.

Before him, the ghostly spirit of his father.

“Son.”

“Father…!” Once more, Connor felt like a kid. Before his father, he could not help but feel so. His father was everything to him after all.

Reza scratched the back of his head sheepishly, and knelt down to him. A hand raised to brush against Connor’s cheek. It felt strange, but full of love and warmth that Connor felt so many years ago.

“I’m glad to see you’re safe.”

You’re a jerk,” Connor blurted out, “I should have died with you. You’re mean for making me sleep for so long. My body ached when I woke you know!”

Reza just laughed at him over that. Connor couldn’t help but pout. “A ruler’s duty is to live and die with his people. But you were not a ruler then, Connor. Your duty, as Prince, had not even began. Do you remember what I told you, so many decades ago?”

“... Live, for the blood of the Orrians now dwell in me, as the last Orrian.”

“Indeed. So you must continue to live. That is also your duty as Prince, and King.”

“I have no land to rule over, I am no King.”

“True, and no.” Reza gently pulled him up to his feet. “Asleep or awake, Connor of Orr, you are a King. Though you may have no people to rule, to guide, you carry the dignity and strength of one. And you must carry that with you at all times. And do not forget.”

Reza traced his finger over Connor’s forehead, and Connor felt a familiar warmth rush through his body. He had felt this magic all the time before, back when he was a child.

“You carry the magic of Bloodstone within you. You are a wielder of it. Now, I’m not too sure of the details, but I’ve heard of an organisation that seeks to try and control Bloodstone. You should know its dangers, don’t you?”

Connor nodded silently. His father, and the royal tutors back then hammered it into his head pretty well. Still, they made it active in his body constantly, to get him acclimated to it easier. In controlled amounts of course. It was the main reason why his eye colour was red most of the time. Naturally, it was green, following his mother’s eyes and pale skin too.

“Of course.”

“Be wary of them. Should they find out about you…”

“They’ll try to take it from me.”

“Exactly. Now, I must be going. Connor, I just… I just wanted you to live, in this era of … peace, somewhat.”

“I’m a man out of time, father.”

“Well, time for you to catch up. You’re my son, you can do it right? Make some new friends. You’re not alone, not anymore, Connor. Don’t forget us, but you have to keep looking forward. What kind of ruler would you be if you can’t keep looking ahead for the better of your people?”

Connor blinked owlishly at his father, trying to absorb his words. He nodded blankly back at him. Reza smiled, and turned to walk away.

“Now I must be going. I have to meet up with our ancestors.”

“What are you guys up to?”

“Trying to restore Orr. We may be dead, but we can try.”

“How are you going to do that without a body?”

“... Point taken.”

“Ya know what, the Pact Marshal, he wandered around in Orr for a bit. I’ll talk to the Pact Commander and see if I can talk to him.” 

Reza smiled mysteriously at him.“You should follow the Pact Commander. He will need all the help he can get.”

“What? What makes you think so?”

Reza gave him a pointed look, and a raised eyebrow. The look that always made Connor feel a little small.

“Because he has the shadow of the world’s burdens on him. The Pact Marshal as well… But the Commander more so. It shows in his eyes. A man like that, will collapse without any proper support.”

Connor again, could only owlishly blink at his father. Reza had seen many different types of people before, so he probably developed a natural instinct like this, but for him to see the Commander like this…Well, it sent a slight chill down Connor’s spine.

(And his father would be proven right, 8 years later. When the Commander, after having his wings burned to ashes, fell endlessly, and brought forth the Era of Night.)

It’s first come, first serve for characters. One artist per character (with the exception of cisswaps). Image size should be around 8.5 inches wide and 11 inches high. 1.) i’m a gw1 baby. my reason for getting the game way back then was because it didn’t have a monthly subscription.

2.) my most played class is guardian and my least amount played is necromancer.

3.) i play my game muted most of the time. the only exception is when im doing story stuff or running around HoT/PoF/Living World.

4.) when i first starting playing the game i thought the ‘Distinction in Applied Jumping’ title was earned by doing all of the jumping puzzles.

5.) a random story i think about a lot:

one time i accidentally sent a bunch of players to a fiery grave during The Megadestroyer World Boss because i didn’t realize that my Necromancer could teleport downed allies with the Transfusion trait. anyway i teleported them directly in front of me. which also happened to be the pool of lava i was standing near.
