i will try to get it populated and have some matches rolling during the weekends, I'll try not to be annoying about it on here but it would be fun to play with people from tumblr & the fediverse now and then.

main motivation for this was the fact there weren't any good servers in europe with only custom maps, it's all gone back to 24/7 crossfire just as it was before the 25th anniversary update.

(anyone outside western europe are wholeheartedly welcome to join, caveat emptor)

if the server ends up being of any interest to the admittedly small niche that is HLDM, i'll keep it running, and eventually get dedicated hardware to host it instead of my (extremely overkill) laptop.

Wanna beef up your G-Man doodles? Here's some little details on his models!

His tie in HL2 has a slight plaid pattern!

In his HLS model, he's got a pocket square and tie clip. These can be blue or purple depending on if it's HLDM or not.

His HL2 fingers turn a maroon-ish colour towards the end, and his knuckles are very pink. Cold hands for a cold heart, I suppose.

...also, his HL2 hair is purple with grey streaks. Why don't they ever bring back his purple hair? :(

His jacket has two buttons in HL1, three in HL2, and four in HLA. So we've got 5 buttons confirmed for HL3, right? His HL1 buttons are gold, because he's gucci like that.

Valve also confirmed that they spent nearly 10k on a suit to scan into the game for textures. He's REALLY gucci like that.

He's got liver spots. Old fart.

His brogues have wooden soles, and they're not tied correctly.

The inside of his original briefcase held his ID, letters, pencils and a GUN.

Also, his HL1 briefcase had the Black Mesa logo on it. This was because originally, he was the administrator of Black Mesa, not Breen. They were once the same character. In Blue Shift, this logo was changed to the DoD logo.

How much of a Half-Life fan are you?

Very much. HL 1 is my favorite PC game of all time. I played HLDM in internet cafés back in '99, played through every notable single-player mod, was a mod of /r/HalfLife and I also run a dedicated server (it is listed in the server browser with the name of this blog).

Map description:

"No. No, it's not Cloister. It's me, it's Lister! It's Lister the Stupid!" -- Dave Lister, Red Dwarf Series I Episode IV, "Waiting for God" A remake/rebuild/re-whatever of Cloister, a deathmatch map created by the Half-Life writer, Marc Laidlaw. Cloister was never officially released but was retrieved (partially) from the leaked WC map pack, albeit not in an entirely playable state. As a self-acknowledged maker of monumentally poor decisions, I set about reconstructing the map and bringing it up to a higher standard of aesthetic quality, while preserving its play space to as reasonable an extent as possible. Marc seems understandably bemused as to why I'd pour my time into this, but as far as I can tell, the project has his approval--or at least, his world-weary tolerance. Play is likely to be ideal with between 2 and 8 players, as the map is somewhat cramped and there aren't many safe places to spawn. All weapons make an appearance except the egon (because I'm a bitter soul). I've made an effort to minimize changes to the layout, but item spawns were largely just chosen by me based on whatever I felt would be best. (The r_speeds are, of course, abysmal. I sort of went into this project knowing that I wouldn't be able to restrain myself. It's 2017 anyway, come on now)
