Please help a girl out, I don’t want to surrender my animals or live in the cold

Hi I’m Alexis and I’m 18 years old and I rent a room out of my grandmothers trailer. We live off a highway in between corn fields so it gets pretty windy and Illinois weathers insane and has been going from nice spring days to snow storms.

A few days ago our furnace went out and we thought we would be okay since it is almost summer. We were wrong even with the nice days the house still got chilly at night to the point where we had to use multiple blankets to stay warm and were freezing from just walking around the house.

This Sunday it is suppose to get to below freezing and I am very worried, I own two fish tanks (one does not have a heater because I’ve never had to worry about this before and the tank can be room temperature). I own a leopard gecko and their tank has already dropped 10 degrees below what it is suppose to be(I have all the heat products needed but if the room he is in is freezing around the tank it won’t help anything) I also have a Syrian hamster and when I picked him up to check on him last night his body was warm but his feet and nose were cold. I have found nobody to take in my pets and I don’t want to surrender my babies to the humane society but if it comes down to it I guess I will have too.

I would get portable heaters for the home but after a fire that destroyed everything my grandmother owned caused by a portable heater before I was born she is terrified and has banned them.

She says we can get through it but I don’t think she is thinking about the animals or herself. I work most days and normally it is doubles and my heart hurts thinking that she may be at home freezing.

It is $1,330 to fix the furnace with a two year warranty. $1,868 to fix the furnace with a five year warranty. And $4,000 for a brand new furnace. My grandmother lost her job almost a year ago when hobbico fires their entire janitorial crew. Between age and the wear of being a janitor the majority of her life she has issues with her arms and is unable to get a job right now.All we have is her social security and my pay check which both mostly go to bills.I want to at least get the furnace fixed but my goal is to get a brand new one so we don’t have to worry about this again for a long time. I am saving every penny I can so I can make this happen, but I would really appreciate any help I can get, and I’m certain my grandmother would feel the same way as well as my animals.
