I feel like we talk about the decision a lot but do you think both Baro and Jinyoung did what's best for themselves ? I'm not sure I can answer no and then it makes me wonder what exactly it is I want from them, what they could've done to make this better while being true to themselves

I think overall yes for Baro, and 'to be determined' for Jinyoung.

I feel for Baro it may have started really affecting him staying in the idol lifestyle. And getting out of it, starting a clean slate at a new company, and clearly redefining his career as an actor was the best move for him, in a multitude of ways. Now, whether HODU is getting him the kind and/or amount of acting roles he wants, is a different story. But I don’t think that’s something we can judge quite yet.

Jinyoung may have originally been banking on leaving WM and making a quick turnover with LINK8. But obviously that didn’t turn out too well, and required him to retreat back (in a sense lol) to more standard entertainment company. I don’t think BB Ent. is in any way an ideal situation for Jinyoung. He wanted LINK8, he wanted ‘J.Ground’ to be his own breadwinner of a company. Now that being said, he’s moved on from whatever LINK8 was, and so far, BB has seemingly been treating him fairly well-- he’s again seen decent success with his role in ‘Police University’, just had his first fanmeet under BB, and is set to be releasing his own album. So, that’s what I mean when I say ‘to be determined’-- he had some initial hiccups, but it appears that things have turned the corner for now. I do question if this is ultimately what Jinyoung wants though, or if down the road he will try again at his own company.

July 14, 2014 B1A4 released their fifth EP: Solo Day

B1A4 (비원에이포) is a five member boy group with CNU, Sandeul, and Gongchan under WM Entertainment, Jinyoung under LINK8 Entertainment, and Baro under HODU&U Entertainment. The music video portrays the members as five different types of people all having a boring day. The teasers leading up to the release acted as chapters for the actual music video.

WM Entertainment Releases Official Statement Addressing Future Of B1A4

WM Entertainment has released an official statement addressing the future of B1A4.

In June, it was announced that the contracts of all five members had expired. Sandeul, CNU, and Gongchan decided to renew their contracts while Jinyoung and Baro made the decision to leave the agency. Jinyoung has since signed on with LINK8 Entertainment and Baro is now with HODU&U Entertainment.

The agency took to B1A4’s official fan cafe and website to make an announcement regarding the group’s future. They stated, “Hello, this is WM Entertainment. First, we wish to sincerely thank all the fans who always care for and love B1A4.

“Our agency has been in continuous talks with Jinyoung and Baro, who we have been with for seven years, on B1A4’s future activities. However, we have reached the agreement that due to various circumstances, it is difficult for B1A4 to promote as five members at this moment.

“Therefore, the decision has been made that CNU, Sandeul, and Gongchan will continue their activities as B1A4 as a trio. However, we have not ruled out the possibility of five-member B1A4 activities in the future and we will continue to negotiate to achieve this goal.

“We wish to apologize for bringing such news to fans who have expressed their support and hopes for B1A4 to continue activities with five members. We will do our best to provide all of our support for CNU, Sandeul, and Gongchan to greet fans again as B1A4. We will also sincerely support Jinyoung and Baro on their future endeavors and growth.

We wish to apologize once again for failing to live up to fans’ expectations, and we ask for your continued warm love and support for B1A4. Thank you.”

B1A4’s Baro Announces Military Enlistment Date

B1A4’s Baro is set to enlist in the military this month.

At the press conference for his upcoming drama “Level Up” on July 10, Sung Hoon briefly mentioned that Baro will enlist on July 30.

Afterwards, Baro’s agency HODU&U Entertainment confirmed through an official statement, “Cha Sun Woo (Baro’s given name) is enlisting as an active duty soldier on [July] 30.”

Baro’s new drama “Level Up” starring Sung Hoon and Han Bo Reum is set to premiere on July 10 at 11 p.m. KST.

August 10, 2015 B1A4 released their sixth EP: Sweet Girl

B1A4 (비원에이포 ) is a five member boy group with CNU, Sandeul, and Gongchan under WM Entertainment, Baro under HODU&U Entertainment, and Jinyoung under LINK8 Entertainment. This album was different from their other releases because they went with a more mature image. Before this album’s release, the group had a mini concert that was broadcast on V LIVE where they played the EP’s title track among other songs.

B1A4, 2 Months After Contract Renewals... “A Focus on Personal Activities”

B1A4 are focusing on personal activities.

This past July, B1A4 company officials had said “B1A4′s Jinyoung (Jung Jinyoung) and Baro (Cha Sunwoo) that have been with us since 2011, will be with our company for the last time as of June 30th. We will respect their choice. We will send our heartfelt support to them.

Shinwoo (Shin Dongwoo), Sandeul (Lee Junghwan) and Gongchan (Gong Chanshik), remaining members of the group, completed their contract renewals with trust and affection. We will discuss the direction of their activities carefully and make a decision moving forward.”

About two months have passed since then. The two people who left the company (Jung Jinyoung and Cha Sunwoo) and the three who remain in the agency (Shin Dongwoo, Lee Junghwan, and Gong Chanshik), are actively engaged in personal activities. So, we looked at the recent progress of the B1A4 members. 

Jinyoung, who signed a contract with LINK 8 ENTERTAINMENT (LINK 8), a new marketing agency, is actively performing in acting and music. Today (Sept. 6th), he will be attending the opening ceremony as ambassador for the 2018 Gwangju Biennale, and on Sept. 9th, will host his first domestic fan meeting.

He is also focusing on music. The first video that was released after his transfer of agencies was of his private workshop J.GROUND. On Sept. 5th, news was released that Jinyoung finished the recording of the TVN drama OST of ‘One Hundred Days’.

He is also active as an actor. On Sept. 5th, LINK 8 officials said, “Jinyoung has been positively considering the Netflix drama, ‘Because It’s My First Love’, and has been proposed to act as the male protagonist.” In addition, his movie ‘The Man Inside Me’ will be released this year.

Cha Sunwoo (Baro), who has moved to HODU&U Entertainment, hopes to walk the road of a real performer, and was cast in the MBC drama ‘Bad Criminal’ (with Hu JunWoo, Kang LeeHeon, Director Dae JinKim, Lee DongHyun). He will play the role of a detective named Hwang Dongyun.

He has been active now for many years, with the KBS drama ‘Manhole’, which was broadcasted in 2017, after having previously starred in ‘Reply 1994′, the SBS drama ‘God’s Gift’, and the MBC drama ‘Angry Mom’. 

MBC’s ‘Bad Detective’ is a criminal drama that depicts the dangerous investigation of a criminal and a fascinating genius psychopath who may be worse than the serial murderer, based on the popular British BBC drama ‘Luther’. Shin HaKyun, HyeSul, Park HoSan, and  Kim KunWoo will be appearing alongside Cha Sunwoo in the drama, scheduled to air this winter.

Shinwoo has also walked into the actor role. Shinwoo, who has not worked in acting since the KBS 2TV sitcom ‘I Need a Beautiful Girl’, which broadcasted in 2012, was recently cast in the new SBS Saturday Drama ‘Miss Ma, Goddess of Revenge’. Shinwoo will play the role of a cop.

This is his first debut into acting. Shinwoo’s acting skills have not yet been proven, but he has been performing in a variety of musicals and has accumulated acting skills and stage experience from this. It is also a plus that a number of veteran actors such as Kim JunJin and Jeong WoongIn are appearing in this drama. As Shinwoo’s role is not a main character, he hopes he will be able to dig into his character more freely.

SBS’s new Saturday Drama, ‘Miss Ma, Goddess of Revenge’, is a drama about a woman who was framed for the murder of her daughter, with secrets being revealed as she works to uncover the truth.

Sandeul is active in various fields. In addition to performing diverse activities as a singer with musicals, as a DJ, he greets listeners every night at 10 o’clock PM on MBC’s standard FM ‘Starry Night with Sandeul’. 

In August, Sandeul was cast in the musical ‘Iron Mask’. The musical ‘Iron Mask’, playing from November 13th through the 18th, is based on the movie of the same name starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Sandeul will play the role of Louis and Philippe, who Leonardo DiCaprio played in the movie.

While Sandeul is busy preparing for musical performances, the DJ has been steadily continuing other singer activities. On August 28th, it was announced that Sandeul recorded a song for KBS 2TV’s drama OST, titled ‘Here I Am’. ‘Here I Am’ features Sandeul’s cool vocals with deep emotion, and is a rock ballad genre with a lyrical blend of piano, guitar, and a rich chorus line that catches the ears. It is getting lots of love.

Gongchan is working as an MC. It is planned to show hosts Yoo Seungwoo, Pentagon’s Keno and Gongchan for the show ‘Ride on a Bus and Go Busking’, to be broadcasted this Autumn. Gongchan has showed his MC skills prior in KBS’s ‘Global Request Show: A Song For You Season 4′, and is expected to do well again here.

‘Ride on a Bus and Go Busking’ is a program where musicians play a surprise busking concert to comfort the weary souls of the youth going about their daily lives. They will be going on a music tour.

Gongchan has said, “I am very happy that I have been able to communication with my fans through the busking stage, and I am very happy that I have been able to show various kinds of things not shown in the past.”
