Bryce and Nesta crack theory...
I haven't seen this suggested anywhere, so here goes: I've wondered before whether Bryce could be Made in a similar way to Feyre (because her drop read similarly to Feyre being brought back and Made by the High Lords' power donations back in ACOTAR), so this is a long shot - ha - but what if Nesta can teach her to Make bullets?
Though I don't know how smart it would be to just scatter bits of Made metal around the place and not retrieve them. Like I said, it's a crack theory. 😂

Just thinking about Nesta Archeron, Lady Death, the one who the Dread Trove answers to, who regularly pisses off Rhysand, High Lord of the Night Court, and how even after the power she sacrificed to save Feyre (and by extension, Rhys) and Nyx, she’s still a character who’s generally regarded as possessing untapped power.
Thinking about the eight-pointed star and the comparison made explicitly by Bryce in HOFAS.
Thinking about all the times Nesta has been referred to as a “Queen” and how in ACOSF, so much of her memories revolved around her mother and how Nesta was raised to be royalty and a Queen.
Thinking about how there hasn’t been a High King in a long time amongst the courts.
Thinking about how canonically, the Inner Circle all possess a healthy caution/fear of Nesta, even Amren.
Thinking about how, even as Nesta grows and changes as a person, she will not bow to Rhys just because she lives in his court. How she unapologetically questions him and defies him in a way that infuriates him.
Thinking about how Nesta’s story can’t possibly be over yet because wtf, her story should not end with a man (no hate to Cassian, love him).
Thinking about the fact that in HOFAS, before Nesta and Cassian are together, Rhys starts putting Cassian in more diplomatic roles.
Yes, hello, welcome to my crack theory about how Nesta will become High Queen and Cassian her king. In this essay I will—

In Their Starborn Era
(HOFAS spoilers below)
The starborn age has ended on Midgard…
Tumblr media
…and the Archeron Starborn Era is about to begin on Prythian. LFG!!!!
The Archeron Sisters are Starborn
As @offtorivendell has theorized here, @wingedblooms has theorized here, I have theorized here and here, we think each of the Archeron sisters is starborn and has part of Theia’s (or her children’s) light.
Elain has Helena’s.
Nesta has Silene’s.
Feyre has Theia’s (or maybe her son’s if that crack theory is right lol).
Though I wonder about Nesta’s Starborn power, and if she gave some of it back to the Cauldron at the end of ACOSF…and what that might mean for her ability to use Gwydion or TT at all on her own, like Bryce can. So what does that mean?
We get hints that Elain has strong starborn power:
Tumblr media
So will Elain at first be the one to wield Gwydion and TT as she (and Az) go on their quests? Potentially to revive Dusk, or other parts of Prythian, as @offtorivendell and @wingedblooms have theorized?
And might she in part use them to help herself? To unMake her bond with Lucien using TT to free them both of it, and to potentially Make a new bond with Az (if a bond doesn’t already exist), either using her powers, or using Gwydion?
Tumblr media
Together They Can Activate TT and Gwydion
Only united can Theia’s starborn power activate Gwydion and TT and be used to kill the unkillable. The Asteri in Midgard. Koschei in ACOTAR?
Tumblr media
The Sisters’ Bonds
Right now, the bonds between the sisters are somewhat fractured, particularly still between Nesta and Elain.
Those bonds will need to finally heal so that they can come together to use Gwydion and TT to save Prythian.

Elain/the black dress
Acofas:
“I call it Void. It absorbs the light. Creates a complete lack of color.”I stared and stared at the black fabric that was like peering into a pit of hell. And then stared at the iridescent, living silver thread that cut through it, bright despite the darkness that devoured all other light and color.
Hofas:
The only force in the universe that ate light, so strong no light could ever escape it. A portal to nowhere. To a black hole.Wasn't that the unholy power that Apollion possessed? The power of the Void. The antithesis of light
The explanation of the Void in Hofas is very similar to the description of the Void fabric from Acofas. I think after Hofas we understand more what's the power of the Void, the antithesis of light, it ate and absorbs light, and that's exactly what happened to Elain when she wore the black dress it absorbed her "the color of her long-sleeved, modest gown leeched the brightness from her face. It wore her, rather than the other way around" and ate her "wearing black, no matter how much she claimed to be part of this court … It sucked the life from her."
I'm sure she was wearing the Void fabric, and I think it's an interesting combination to wear it and wield a dagger that can create Void.
One more thing is that the Night Court = darkness, and Sarah always describes light and darkness as balanced opposites, 'darkness shapes the light.' On the other hand, the Void sucks and destroys light, so the dress color wasn't really the problem, but the fabric from which it is made, and it has nothing to do with where Elain belongs
Unless u want to use this to create a crack theory of Elain ending up with Apollion lol

I think the main purpose of Azriel x Elain and the bonus chapter was to show us how they unknowingly helped each other and set up their future books.
Elain said she didn't want male, but quite clearly would have slept with Azriel in the bonus chapter. I'm think Azriel fucked his chances when he said "this was a mistake" rather than literally anything else, because Elain obviously took it as a rejection and closed the door on that relationship by returning the necklace. But now she is in fact open to a relationship with a male, which is a huge step for her. Lucien has a chance, but let's see if he's the first. My crack theory is Elthazar happening before Elucien. Balthazar is basically an Illyrian Lucien. He fights with his words and is against unnecessary violence, plus he saved Nesta so there's his in with Elain. Its a perfect spanner because if Azriel's getting his own book/mate, then there needs to be a new obstacle for Elucien. Also, imagine the chaos if SjM made this happen and sparked a new ship war before the last book! The carnage.
For Azriel, he needed to go after Elain to show that what he felt for Mor wasn't actually love. It was infatuation and he was so easily able to switch it to Elain. He's chasing a mating bond because not having one confirms he's unworthy, and what happened in his childhood was his fault. So much trauma. He needs to meet someone who understands his pain, who feels unworthy too, so they can help fill the broken pieces of each other. Its codependent but most relationships are in romance books! So then, how fun for the second part of the bonus chapter to put his mate right in front of him, but he's too traumatised to see it. Gwyn wasn't given such a fleshed out, tragic back story to be shoved aside. And the spark in Azriel's chest was unnecessary if they aren't in fact mates. In HOFAS, Azriel states he has no mate and no partner, which works fine for Gwynriel because friendship can developed off book, but romance (in a romance series) cannot. So, time skipping forward with a recap on how "he couldn't imagine he once questioned if they were friends" is enough back story to continue forward. We'll get a friendship to lovers/healing story with the obstacle being themselves!
Well, I'll stop now! If you made it this far, then happy Friday! Hope all your dreams come true 😆

So this is a crack theory.
Hofas spoilers
What if Lucien and Elain have been mind talking or together for awhile.
After the battle of Hybern. Feyre told them to wash up together.
We need got that scene. What if she told her about her using truth teller. What it actually can do ?
I believe lucien already knows about his biological father. I believe Helion didn't let that slip accidentally from his lips.
He did it for a reason. Maybe day court royals can block out daementi. Lucien hasn't been an emissary for this many years without being observant. He figured out Feyre was suspicious right away.
Anyways he let Feyre read his mind for what he allowed.
Going back to after the battle. What if Lucien already knows about great objects of power. He as raised in autumn. I'm sure Eris and loa taught him. Maybe even Beron.
So Elain tells him. She also tells him of all her visions.
So he tells her they can talk through the bond. So they pretend to hate each other. Can't stand each other. Till all her visions come true.
So lulu flirts with Vassa in front of Feyre. Elain acts with Azriel and the necklace. To see about his loyalties.
Which I believe will also tie into Nesta and the dusk court. Maybe Azriel will switch courts. Elain also pushing him towards Gwyn. She knows mates are stronger together .
Sly Fox that's Lucien. Sjm has says he's the her smartest characters. Also she said Lucien and Dorian would be friends. Dorian who tricked Maeve.
Helion is playing along because his court knows about seers. Also he loves loa. He would never put her at risk. Neither would Eris or Lucien by revealing the truth.
Elain's story could go back to the beginning. I also believe papa archeron had gifts of seeing.
Feyre did before she turned fae. She painted that dresser. I believe Nesta did as well.
That's why Papa archeron went immediately to find Vassa.
Maybe he knew he had to play the horrible parent. Not being there. So his daughters Feyre and Nesta would become rulers. Elain my be the only one to know about it.
I believe Elain also knew Tamlin was fae. She did t forget. Just pretended.
This has to do with the goddess of fate urd or wyrd. Aka all those drawings on the cottage.
Which are to protect them from Asteri.
So in Elain and Lucien book. We will see them during each part of main events. Waiting for the right time.
Which I believe lucien will come get Elain before or after Bryce goes back to migard.
Helion will say. I have books about seers etc. This will lead to the death of Beron and defeat of Koschei.
I believe Vassa and Jurian would know Elain and Lucien are together. Jurian is adept at lying. Plus he would have knowledge of many things. He wasn't eye and not paying attention for no reason
Vassa knows the game because she's royal.
Eris always has he taught Lucien. Doesn't he say he should have taught brothers about blocking out mind readers. Throw them off his scent maybe. Lie lie lie.
This would be wild. Support my theory. That bring a seer is horrible. Family may hate you. Because if you change fate. Does it cause more problems. Elain wasn't blessed by the cauldron for no reason. It purrs and it never attacked her on the battlefield.
What if the pure mother's wyrd saw Elain in the cauldron. She awoken her.
Nesta took most the asteri bad parts . Though the mother blessed her not to become corrupt through love. Thus Nesta becoming high lady of dusk.
I don't believe Lucien will become high lord of day for awhile. Elain and Lucien maybe to become world walkers. Say emissaries to other worlds.
Maybe Tam even knows. He's acting more crazy to their them off. He told Feyre to be happy and saved Rhys life. Plus doesn't have a painting of the cauldron before the asteri.
Helion would teach Lucien about a spell to mask the mating bond.
Which I believe he does to protect the lady of autumn from Beron.
Explains why Azriel smells something off about their bond.
Why lulu look solemn at solstice. Cause Elain had to play Azriel. Knowing Rhys would find out. Pushing Azriel too see Gwyn. Not a crush like he does with Mor and Elain.
Mates. Though because Azriel had been through much in his life. He doesn't understand the mating bond for himself.
Also they would be the greatest actors since Aelin

Amrens convo with Elain in acofas has always stood out to me. It’s about switching bodies essentially. It’s too hefty a conversation to mean nothing. So, after finishing hofas I was reminded of it again and I have an absolute crack theory that Elain will use the harp to essentially move Koschei’s soul back into his body so that he can be killed. The harp can move things through space and time, so why not a soul into a body? Furthermore, that act itself reeks of “life magic” and could be interpreted as “giving life”. Making Elain an opposite to Nesta’s pure death.
Also the poetry of killing the “deathless” by giving them life? That would be epic.

“This is more a crack theory so far but I am guessing Nesta or Az will join the world walkers club.”
I would love to hear why you think this 👀 (it would be cool)
So far we haven't had a world walker from the ACOTAR world , we had Aelin from TOG and Bryce from CC .... so , with a multiverse it is a possibility that there will be someone from the ACOTAR world that would be a world walker.
My crack theory is that the troves might be separated and kept in different worlds since its repeatedly mentioned both in HOFAS and ACOSF that together the troves might be able to do a lot of things that are both harmful and terrifying
Tumblr media
Also, these objects had sentience at one stage and it is described as a dark time. It might well be safer to keep them separated? Which is why I think Nesta might be the one to send it to two different places. Nesta's story is still happening and clearly the troves are her story line.
It could be Az as well, to start with what Az does isn't winnowing it's stepping between worlds or that's how it's been described, so the guy is also a great candidate for world walking and if it's his book and by extension Gwynriel is next then it's likely he will get centre stage.
It would also lead onto the new series? Since midgard already has a trove ... Bryce... so she could introduce a new world through this.
This is all speculation and I would urge you all to please take it with a grain of salt.

The Asteri, the Daglan, and Prythian's Court System
Disclaimer: this is a stupidly massive crack theory that could end up being disastrously wrong. Oh well.
Spoilers: the ACOTAR and CC series to date (I'm halfway through HOFAS right now, slowly plodding along, so nothing beyond that).
Tumblr media
Image from ACOSF, Kindle edition.
Buckle up for some more of my nonsense! I think I could have discovered why Prythian's land has the Court and High Lord Systems. This theory still has a couple of wrinkles to iron out, but it's plausible, so I figured I'd share what I've got.
A massive thank you goes to @ladynightcourt3 and @psychologynerd for our chat yesterday morning, which led to this post. I love you guys! 💜
Full warning that this will A) be absolutely cracked, and B) contains Maasverse spoilers, including from HOFAS (up to around 40% I think), but I was mulling over what I'd read so far and this popped into my mind.
Part 1 - The Court System
Bryce made, I think, one hell of an assumption when she said the following in HOFAS:
Vesperus, the only Asteri left on this world, lay dead. - CC HOFAS, chapter 26
@wingedblooms and I have previously theorised that some of the barren regions in Prythian may be so because the death gods were trapped there, drinking the magic of the land, rendering it spent - lifeless - and possibly unable to power up a gateway to an interstellar rift. We both also think it's very interesting that one Elain Archeron was referred to as “a rose bloom in a mud field,” but I digress.
However, in HOFAS, we learnt that there was a Daglan/Asteri, called Vesperus (who considered herself the Evening Star and their god), trapped in a crystal coffin far below the Prison, which was once a land of Dusk.
The female’s long nails scraped along the lid of the coffin. She didn’t look at them as she tested the lid for weaknesses. “I am your god. I am your master. Do you not know me?” - CC HOFAS, chapter 24
It's interesting, no, that the region was named after the Daglan who ruled it? Was this common practice? Because we just so happened to learn, in Feysand’s ACOSF bonus chapter, that there was once an ancient Night Court goddess named Nyx.
You know, their son's namesake? Yikes. 🫣
“You may call me Vesperus.” The creature’s eyes glowed with irritation. “Are you related to Hesperus?” Bryce arched a brow at the name, so similar to one of Midgard’s Asteri. “The Evening Star?” “I am the Evening Star,” Vesperus seethed. - CC HOFAS, chapter 25
Silene, Theia's second daughter, who “escaped into the night,” gave us further information that appeared - to me, at least - to be incomplete. Or perhaps inaccurate? She had been taught by her mother, so she could have been fed certain things as facts. For example, was the land of Prythian really divvied up into seasons and times of day before the Daglan came to town?
The land strengthened. It returned to what it had been before the Daglan’s arrival millennia before. We returned to what we’d been before that time, too, creatures whose very magic was tied to this land. Thus the land’s powers became my mother’s. Dusk, twilight—that’s what the island was in its long-buried heart, what her power bloomed into, the lands rising with it. It was, as she said, as if the island had a soul that now blossomed under her care, nurtured by the court she built here. - CC HOFAS, chapter 19
The Cauldron was of our world, our heritage. But upon arriving here, the Daglan captured it and used their powers to warp it. To turn it from what it had been into something deadlier. No longer just a tool of creation, but of destruction. And the horrors it produced … those, too, my parents would turn to their advantage. - CC HOFAS, chapter 19
My sister and I grew older. My mother educated us herself, always reminding us that though the Daglan had been vanquished, evil lived on. Evil lurked beneath our very feet, always waiting to devour us. - CC HOFAS, chapter 19
Reading between the lines, I think it's just possible to link the powers of each land with the Daglan who once ruled over them. Perhaps each region - each “precursor” to a modern day Court - had a Daglan/Asteri buried underneath a barren peak, or in a body of water? Is this why the lands have frozen seasons, pools of starlight*, or powers based upon the light of the time of day? Because of a monster buried far, far below the surface?!
*Is there a Daglan entombed in a crystal coffin far below the surface, or is it a cache of firstlight, one that may be refuelled each Calanmai? Or, as @psychologynerd has suggested, is there a Made object of power that will draw Elain to the Spring Court?
Our home had been left empty since we’d vanished. As if the other Fae thought it cursed. So I made it truly cursed. Damned it all. - CC HOFAS, chapter 21
Despite my efforts to hide what this place had once been, a terrible, ancient power hung in the air. It was as my mother had warned us when we were children: evil always lingered, just below us, waiting to snatch us into its jaws. So I went to find another monster to conceal it. - CC HOFAS, chapter 21
I left, wandering the lands for a time, seeing how they had moved on without Theia’s rule. They’d splintered into several territories, and though they were not at war, they were no longer the unified kingdom I had known. - CC HOFAS, chapter 21
As a quick aside, I still suspect that Fionn may have been a Daglan - or similar, perhaps an Under King - who tricked Theia into thinking him a normal faerie and used her to overthrow his peers in order to gain more land for himself. It seems exactly like something a rogue Asteri would do.
Like I suggested earlier, could each region be named for its ruler? Because the names of at least one of the Midgard Asteri was, shall we say, coincidentally similar to the Daglan of Prythian, and others appear to match at least the solar courts.
Solar:
Dawn - Eosphoros
Day - Rigelus
Dusk - Hesperus
Night - Sirius
Seasonal (incomplete/unsure/probably incorrect):
Spring - Austrus?
Summer - Octartis?
Autumn - ?
Winter - Polaris?
As I said, the Midgardian Asteri don't perfectly match up to the seasonal Prythian courts, but it's too close to not consider as a possibility, imo.
Perhaps the lands of Midgard were broken up into solar regions and something else that wasn't seasonal? But given the Vesperus/Hesperus competition... maybe whatever species Asteri and/or Daglan are are strongest when travelling with a full complement of powers? And each "clan" (for lack of a better word) that travelled together had dawn, day, dusk, and night “lights,” as well as spring, summer, autumn and winter lights? Could it weaken them to be without a full cohort of powers? As @ladynightcourt3 said, it would explain why they were so upset about Sirius. Could Rigelus be hoping for a replacement to find them and return them to full strength, and that's why he keeps an empty throne?
Part 2 - The High Lords
No one knew that the infant who sometimes glowed with starlight had inherited it from me. That it was the light of the evening star. The dusk star. - CC HOFAS, chapter 21
An Asteri being buried under each Court could explain the high lord magic as well. The HLs are “a different breed,” per Lucien. Did the Asteri/Daglan need a Starborn Fae who is predisposed to holding, or withstanding, their magic? If this is the case, it would explain why the next in line to inherit the power - or who the magic chooses - isn't always a direct descendant of the previous high lord. Does it pass to the Fae with the strongest Starborn blood? And why the mountain shook when Mor got her first period. There has to be a Daglan/Asteri buried under the Hewn City.
That being said, why is it only men who can inherit the magic, and not women, especially when we now know that high ladies used to exist? Did Theia's betrayal made them distrust females in general, or was it something Seline did? Or is it because the women have the most/purest/strongest, starborn power, so did the men keep them down to use them as “breeding stock” in order to legitimise their rule, similar to what Pelias did with Helena?
Part 3 - Further Thoughts
I still wonder how Hybern and Hel could come into play here, because I think those lands are linked. A Valg/Hel Prince population on a different island?
@psychologynerd noted that we’ve previously connected the solar and seasonal courts, such Dawn = Spring, Day = Summer etc., and that it would track for Autumn and Dusk - an appropriately matched pair - to migrate together to Midgard. As an aside, this could tie in with the parallels shared by Azriel and Lucien, who may be/are linked to Dusk and Autumn. What if their power was connected via their “stars”?
@ladynightcourt3 wondered if Hesperus may have changed her name, hence Vesperus’ anger.
I can understand how a Daglan's presence may impart their magic into the land, especially if they're left buried - steeping? - in the soil for millennia, but how would that magic shape the faeries living there? Is it like I suggested in this post, that prolonged exposure to a powerful object allows a tie to be forged?
A bonus crack theory for fun - what if Merrill is a trapped Asteri? Either Nyx or Sirius, whom Apollion ate, and perhaps she escaped the pit of Hel through the base of the House of Wind library; nobody knows where she came from, she's descended from Rabbath of the Western Wind… her room is described as a cell and she called Nesta “girl” like Amren - an ancient - did. I dunno, but there's something about Merrill.
As always, thank you for reading! 💜

Ramiel stone - The meteor
this is my crackiest crack theory to date.
So in every cc book it is mentioned that Gwydion is made from a meteor that fallen to their world. And in hofas we learn that Truth-teller is also from that same meteor.
That sword was currently strapped across Ruhn’s back, its black hilt devouring the glaring firstlights. Isaiah had once heard someone say the sword was made from iridium mined from a meteorite, forged in another world—before the Fae had come through the Northern Rift. (Hoeab)
“The sword was part of a pair,” Ruhn said to him. “A long-bladed knife was forged from the iridium mined from the same meteorite, which fell on our old world.” The world the Fae had left to travel through the Northern Rift and into Midgard. “But we lost the knife eons ago. Even the Fae Archives have no record of how it might have been lost, but it seems to have been sometime during the First Wars.” (hoeab)
“It’s an ancient sword,” the Autumn King said at last, drawing Ruhn from his wandering thoughts, “from another world. Made from the metal of a fallen star—a meteorite. This sword exists beyond our planet’s laws. Perhaps the Reapers sensed that and shied away.” (hosab)
“This was unique. It felt like … like an answer. My sword blazed with light. That dagger shone with darkness. Both of them are crafted of the same black metal. Iridium, right?” She jerked her chin to Azriel, to the dagger at his side. “Ore from a fallen meteorite?” Azriel’s silence was confirmation enough. (Hofas)
we dont know any meteor in acotar. But azriel confirms it with his silence. That Truth-teller is indeed made from a fallen meteorite.
So what could it be? This is the crack part of the theory. What if it is the ramiel stone?
The blades are black. Ramiel stone is black.
These are the same examples of the Truth-Teller and Gwydion. I can't add every one of them.
Another shift of memory, and Fionn pulled a long blade from the Cauldron, dripping water. A black blade, whose dark metal absorbed any trace of light around it. Bryce’s knees weakened. (Hofas)
Bryce threw her power into the Starsword, light ripping through the black blade, willing it to tear this fucking monster apart—(hofas)
“Some major prophecy fulfillment,” Bryce said, hoping to Hel she was hiding the tremble in her arms from keeping the black blades steady, from ignoring that instinct murmuring to her to bring them together, not keep them apart. (Hofas)
And this is the ramiel stone.
But Cassian paused before a landscape painting of a towering, barren mountain, void of life yet somehow thrumming with presence. Snow and pines crusted the smaller peaks around it, but this strange, bald mountain … Only a black stone jutted from its top. A monolith, Nesta realized, stepping closer. (Acosf)
Far up, too far, lay its peak with the sacred black stone. Three stars glinted above the mountain: Arktos and Oristes to the left and right; Carynth crowning them. Their light flared and waned, as if in invitation and challenge. (Acosf)
Snow drifted across the image, and then Theia was standing atop a mountain, a black monolith rising behind her. (Hofas)
So what if ramiel stone is that meteor?
And in acofas Cassian says this
Who had put that stone atop the peak, he didn’t know, either. Legend said it had existed before the Night Court formed, before the Illyrians migrated from the Myrmidons, before humans had even walked the earth. Even with the fresh snow crusting Ramiel, none had touched the pillar of stone. (Acofas)
So maybe someone didn't put it but it fell to their world.
And fionn dipped the blades to cauldron on top of the cauldron too where the ramiel stone is so maybe they are more connected than we thought?
Again this is CRACK.

hofas
considering Nesta wasn't even training her power in acosf and in hofas she has good control over it, is it safe to assume that hofas is set a few years after acosf?
If it is and Azriel isn't with anybody does that mean Elain is with Lucien. Nobody seemed to worry about Nesta and Az, 2 powerful warrior, who would be needed if they were dealing with Koschei, being in the caves as long as they were. This could point to the problems in Prythian being dealt with (possibly by Elucien). I don't know if this made sense or if its a crack theory.

Crack theory? or more of a question
Spoilers ahead for all Crescent City and ACOTAR books
We know that at the end of HOSAB, Bryce arrives in Velaris.... and how convenient that the spymaster is right there with a blindfold at the ready.
and then later on it didn't seem like Rhys was surprised by Bryce showing up.
so, my question is, how did they know? Was it ever addressed in HOFAS?
if not, what are our guesses? did Azriel's Shadows inform him? Did a certain Seer see something? Will it be something addressed in the next ACOTAR book?
What do you guys think?

okay this is a far out theory but
what if the reason the cauldron gave something to elain was bc it felt sort of bad about mating her to the wrong person. like we know that the cauldron is corrupt in a way from hofas, and maybe it’s worried that if that final piece with the three bothers and three sisters come to pass, that it won’t turn out well for the cauldron so it messes with elains bond to try and stop it. but it feels bad doing that to elain, so it blessed her as a seer or maybe the mother blessed her bc the mother knew what happened with the bond idk idk idk this is a crack theory i’m rambling bye

ACOTAR 6 Theory
Here's my crack theory in it's barest form. This is meant to be fun, since now we know magic beans exist, so nothing matters anymore. But here is what my mind has been churning around since my CC reread and preview on SJMs website.:
(Spoilers for CC2, ACOSF, and the Prologue and First Chapter of HOFAS)
The girls in Koschei's lake are mystics and he's using them to glean information about the trove via going into people's minds or outright spying inside spaces that should otherwise be warded. Hence, "shadows can be blinded". I think he needs some combination of the Trove and Truth Teller to break his confines (for what? Here's where I'm not sure. At present, I do think he is Asteri, which is another word for Daglan and Death God, and he was entrapped by one of the OG fae rebellion who threw the Asteri out. Yes, this means his "siblings" the Bone Carver & Weaver would also be diminished Asteri not at their full powers)
Rigelus drops hints about having a masterful plan that he completely orchestrated via manipulating every event to work into what the Asteri need. This includes "tugging" people to do what he wanted (Hunt & Bryce joining the rebellion to activate their gifts etc) without them even realizing what was happening. He was aware of everyone's actions, because of the mystics. So nobody willingly betrayed Bryce/Hunt/Ruhn & co. It happened because he simply had access to that information and he played them like chess pieces on a game he was always going to win.
My theory banks entirely on Koschei playing the same game, which I believe was hinted to us via the "I've been preparing for you for a long time" line in ACOSF. Bearing that in mind, if he does truly want Truth Teller and the trove, who else is conveniently looking for information about the trove? Merrill. Who conveniently got information about the trove from TWO PEOPLE who were asked NOT to share said information? Merrill. Seems like the type of strings some overarching Big Bad would pull to get the chess pieces to align in such a way to bring the trove to himself without him doing any of the work. **
Also conveniently, what does the IC have at their disposal to also be able to glean information about a shadowed foe? A Seer. Granted, Elain has already said that most of Koschei is all "mist and shadow", but perhaps there will be a way to break through that mist and shadow (maybe using truth teller, which she was able to wield and possibly winnow with........But that's a theory for another time). Perhaps she will need to start shielding her unwarded mind of "tangled vines" to keep him out. Perhaps she can use tangled vines to get through his mist and shadow.
There's other pieces to this theory that I'm not discussing because they involve spoilers for CC3. But I wanted all of this in one place so I can come back to it later and adjust/erase/refine as needed once I have the actual book in my hands tomorrow <3
** The Merrill-is-Compromised Theory has already been discussed by several other beautiful people in this fandom, and if you can tag them in the comments, I'll add to this post. TY!!!

FALL
Series continuation of ACOSF, will be HOFAS canon compliant. 3rd person POV, Azriel, Eris, Elain.
Unpicking the tangled threads of fate that tie Azriel, Elain, and Eris.
Fall - in love, from grace, through worlds. Fall - like Autumn.
This slowburn long-fic ties together and explores all my favourite crack theories, building on the world that SJM has created.
