2022 Movie Odyssey
Well, it’s another record set for the the latest date that this list has ever appeared. As per tradition on this blog, this is the complete list of films I saw for the first time in their entirety over the last calendar year. They are listed in the order of completion and with a respective rating out of ten from me. Each rating (my ratings system and eligibility rules are explained here) is based on my personal imdb rating. All half-points are rounded down.
March was defined entirely by my blog’s annual 31 Days of Oscar marathon (in which I limit myself to watching films nominated for an Academy Award or Honorary Academy Award winning films). June and early July were defined almost entirely by viewing submissions for Viet Film Fest - which contributed heavily to the amount of short films (one will notice tons of MGM short films and Popeye as well; the latter I believe I will be completing later in 2023) seen this year.
In sum, I saw 207 films that were new to me in 2021 (a sharp decline from 329 in 2021). 116 of those were features (films defined as forty-one minutes or longer); 91 were short films (forty minutes or shorter). My yearly goal to watch more pre-1980 films than 1980 and after - so as to ensure that I my viewing habits are well-rounded, chronologically - failed for the first time in at least eleven years. Among features, I saw six more features released 1980 and after. Adding both features and shorts, the deficit was nineteen. My professional situation in the second half of the year did not help matters.

When the sun sets on April 20, Muslims around the world will look skyward for a crescent of pale white light—the conclusion to the Islamic holy month of Ramadan emblazoned in the night sky.
Beginning and ending with the new moon, Ramadan falls on the ninth month of the Arabic lunar calendar. It is believed by Muslims to be when the first verses of the Koran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad more than a millennium ago. From sunrise to sunset, Muslims abstain from food, drink, and vices like gossip and lying. Not only is it meant to be a period of self-reflection, but to serve as a reminder to be charitable to the less fortunate.
Eid al-Fitr, Arabic for “festival of breaking fast," is celebrated over three days at the end of Ramadan through prayer, feasts, parades, gifts, and charitable giving. Here's a look at how it is celebrated around the world.

New Delhi , August 16 (Always First): Navroz, which is the Parsi New Year, is being celebrated this year on August 16. The day is dedicated to the beginning of the spring and to promoting peace, solidarity, and friendship among people and different communities.
Navroz celebration is believed to date back to the time when Prophet Zarathustra founded Zoroastrianism, one of the earliest known monotheistic religions in the world, in Persia (now Iran). It was one of the most important religions in the ancient world until the emergence of Islam in the seventh century.
During the Islamic invasion of Persia, several Persians fled to India and Pakistan. Since then, their festivals have become a part of Indian festivities and are celebrated by people from diverse cultures.
Navroz marks the first day of Farvardin, the first month in the Zoroastrian calendar, also known as the Shahenshahi calendar.
For followers of Zoroastrian philosophy, this day represents the time when everything in the universe is completely renewed. Jamshed, a monarch of the ancient Sasanian Empire, is credited with introducing the Parsi calendar. Hence, this holiday is also called Jamshed-i-Nouroz.
Though across the world, Navroz is celebrated at the time of the vernal equinox around March 21 however, Parsis in India follow the Shahenshahi calendar which does not recognise leap years. This is why the Parsi New Year in India is celebrated almost 200 days after it is celebrated across the world.
On this occasion, Parsi families across India, especially in the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat as they have a sizeable Parsi population, visit the holy temples to offer prayers.
They also prepare traditional Parsi dishes like Farcha, Berry Pulao, and Jardaloo Chicken, among several other things. Parsis also believe it to be a day of remittance of sins and a time for repentance. (Always First)

Happy Guru Purnima | Always First
This year in 2022 , Guru Purnima is observed on Wednesday the 13th of July. It falls on the Poornima (full moon day ) according to the Hindu calendar during the month of ASHAD (June to July of the GREGORIAN calendar) Guru Purnima is observed.
Traditionally Guru Purnima has been celebrated by Buddhist to commemorate Gautam Buddha’s first sermon to his first five disciples in Uttar Pradesh Sarnath .However Hindus and Jains also celebrate this festival to show reverence to their teachers.
This was the day when Krishna dwaipayana (VYAS) , author of the Mahabharata was born. Hence it is also celebrated as Vyash Poornima.
Traditionally in India people used to stay awake the whole night under the moonlight doing meditation, singing and dancing .
15,000 years ago this was the time of the year when the Adiyogi‘s attention fell upon his first seven disciples celebrated as Saptarishis.
In yogic tradition Shiva was not worshiped as a God but was considered the Adiyogi (first Yogi )and as the Adi guru the first guru from whom the yogic sciences originated.
On the occasion of Guru Purnima there happens a specific association between the moon and the planets which creates a receptivity in the people to that dimension which we refer to as the GURU.
Of late people do not pay much heed to it and prefer to celebrate teachers day instead ,but the significance of Guru cannot be ignored,there exists an equal importance of an academic guru and spiritual guru .Academic guru guides a person in their career while spiritual guru becomes even more important.
Significance of Guru Purnima is the kind of reminder for all of us to understand the importance of guru (teacher) . Guru means dispeller of darkness. It is the guru who shows the right path to reach out to one’s destination.
As we see nowadays there are several gurus and saints all around the world so the question arises how to find the right spiritual teacher , the only solution is following one’s Holy book where it is mentioned that a guru who can explain the upside down tree in the form of this universe correctly with each part defined ,he or she will be the true Guru .
On this day disciples or students dedicate themselves to the service of the teacher and remember their teachings . Guru Brahma ,Guru Vishnu, GuruDevo Maheshwara, Guru Sakshat Param Brahma ,Tasman Shri Gurave Namaha.It means Guru is the creator, he is the protector and destroyer of the evil forces and negative thoughts ,attitudes and habits .The guru is the supreme God so I bow upon him and show my gratitude.
The Prasad and Charnamrit are prepared on this day. It is said to bring the grace of guru or Lord Vishnu into the devotee’s life ,so that people get bestowed with knowledge and wisdom.
Reciting “Vishnu Sahatranam “on this day has positive effects on human lives .
For people who are on the spiritual path, Guru Purnima is the biggest day in their life because this day they want to receive the grace of the Adi guru and every other guru on the way.
