you and tsukishima had only started dating in march of your first year. both of you honestly had no problems, other than tsukishima's general nature of being petty, sarcastic and all of the above..but you saw the nice things about him, other than his best friend yamaguchi.

when you two had broken up, it was nearing the examinations. your best friend, haruto, the one who often 'joked' about pursuing you...he was the one who helped you through it all.

getting over tsukishima was one big problem, but letting go of everything about him was worse. but haruto was always patient..with you of course.

after a back and forth complimenting session with each other on the school rooftop during lunch, haruto decided to shoot his shot, and confess.

luckily, during those times of him helping you, you finally noticed him, and how great he was. you happened to develop a crush that only increased each day with him.

by the end of november, and the start of december, both of you were a couple.

"yn and ______ are so cute!" tsukishima heard some second years girls squealed as they scurried past the classroom to get to class.

tsukishima placed his book down, frowning at the news. he turns to his nervous friend beside him.

"did you know about them?" he asks, quite sternly, earning a hesitant nod from the freckled boy.

tsukishima kept hearing both those names throughout the day, making him annoyed. it would be either, he waited for her before they went to class, held her bag or books for her, gave her stuff etc.

tsukishima kei was sick of it.

you were quite known by the second years, before first years, since you always helped people. helping with even the simplest things seemed to make people like you apparently.

and that guy..haruto takao, the basketball club's starting player and number 4. supposedly, haruto had his jersey with the number 4 because it meant something about yn, that's what people said.

tsukishima didnt really care about other people, but when he had volleyball practice and surprisingly, the basketball team was also using the gym, he needed to get a glance.

tsukishima made a face at the amount of basketball players, and how loud they were..

his eyes then landed on a tall guy, but not as tall as him, stand to the side as he helped the juniors with the layout.

tsukishima smirked at the fact that he was taller, he wanted to boast about it if he could, until you peeked out from the gym doors, smiling softly as the basketball manager approached you as you both chatted happily.

when haruto finally turned around, he grinned at the sight of you, dragging his feet as he whined and embraced you, as his friends teased and copied his actions jokingly.

tsukishima grimaced at that. he did not like that. he almost had forgotten you both had broken up. he got out of his daze when yamaguchi handed him his filled waterbottle that yachi had just passed.

"are you okay, tsukki?" his worried friend asked.

"of course i am? why wouldn't i be?" he retorted, huffing as he walked off to the corner to stretch before practicing.

basketball practice started earlier, so it would end faster than the volleyball club. he noticed you waiting outside and wanted to approach you, thinking you waited for him, when he came running as he hugged you tightly.

tsukishima soon grew a hatred for haruto, he grew annoyed at everything he did. it was as if he was there to bite him back in the ass after the break up.

tsukishima would walk home from practice with his headphones on, and he would see both of you at the convenient store with haruto as you two shared earpiece and held hands as you two headed off.

he was in class because he didnt want to head out for lunch, he would see you two walk by, laughing about something as his arm was over your shoulder.

he would see you sit beside the basketball manager, helping to take notes since you took amazing notes. he would also see you converse with the coaches happily, as if the basketball team was a whole family, and you were always welcomed.

he was sick of it, sick of seeing you everywhere. in the crowds of students rushing to class, sitting at the school assembly hall where you sat four seats infront of him, or carrying books with your boyfriend.

he missed you, he didnt want to admit it, but it hurt. he wanted you again.

when volleyball practice was horrible, since hinata and kageyama were there, you always would reassure him, promise to bake him strawberry shortcake if he went to practice.

he dealt with all this frustration, until he got fed up. he was scrolling through twitter and unexpectedly saw a post of you..and him.

his eyes glanced over the comments, scoffing at the "so cute!" and "i hope you two last long" comments.

tsukishima gripped his phone tightly, his veins popping as he shoved his phone away on the bed. he held his head in his hands, as if he had a headache.

tsukishima had referred to haruto as 'him' or 'your/her boyfriend' so many times, he forgot the poor guy's name.

but he didn't care, that was his final straw.

he needed to do this, even if he knew it was wrong. he wanted to try. he took a deep breath, and picked up his phone again, turned it on, clicked on the messages app as he went to your contact.

he let out a sigh.

he knew it would happen.

you were loyal, it was definite you would reject him. he glanced at his desk, looking at the two keychains hung up close together, a dinosaur, and a bunny.

when you were dating, you had bought that for the two of you, except he would have the bunnt and you would have the dinosaur, which represented tsukishima.

tsukishima dislikes the idea of putting the bunny keychain on his bag since it was 'childish', but you didnt care, and hung his dinosaur keychain on yours.

however, when you returned it, he just decided to keep it both.

a couple days after you broke up, when he heard his door bell ring, he was surprised and slightly annoyed to see haruto there instead to return everything he had given you or what you had 'borrowed'.

when he brought his stuff to his room, he dropped everything to the side and instead picked up his hoodies. he could smell your perfume on it, but he liked it.

he didnt know why, but he texted you right after, complaining, almost scolding you on why you didnt wash it before. that made you feel much worse during the break up times.

tsukishima kei wasn't one to cry, it wasn't rarely, but he almost never cried. but..apparently that day was different.

tsukishima sat on the bed tiredly, and held your bunny keychain..and cried.

he didnt know what to do but slowly the tears fell as he didnt even care on wiping it.

he missed you, he wanted you back..but that would never happen.

nocturne is definitely known for having weak characters which is honestly true. given what the game is going for (with the best way i’ve seen it described being a modern parable) it really had to focus hard on the artistic aspects as opposed to character development. that being said, something i’ve come to appreciate is how it depicts relationships via music and visuals, and i think it’s not given enough credit.

most of the cutscenes has pov shots particularly with the demifiend since he’s who you play as, and i think that adds a lot of context to what’s being shown.

chiaki especially is the best example and i really want to talk about it.

her theme is really soft and nostalgic, and her infamous jean dress is a lot more stand out than the large amount of monochrome fits the cast has. in some ways, that blue can represent sophistication and comfort, and maybe a tiny bit of melancholy.

when she talks about her reason, the models are all pink. that can be chocked up to her being a girl and pink being “girly” but this isn’t entirely the case. first, did you know pink was originally the color associated with men? there seems to be some debate as to why the colors changed around the 1900s, but for the longest time, pink being a symbol of masculinity came from the fact that it was deemed a stronger color while blue is weaker and fragile (here’s a good article breaking it down btw it’s an interesting read). as such, and given her reason is ultimately might makes right, you can definitely see this choice being to show power. you can even go further by saying her outfit is a red herring, making her seem delicate when in reality she’s a bit of a mean girl, to put it lightly. if you want to look at it in a more recent color association way, this is where the pov stuff shines. pink is seen as an innocent or romantic color, further adding to that not everything is as it seems label. the demifiend sees her as innocent, or someone he loves. the latter might also be possible in general since, though it can be deemed non canonical, he does have a crush on her in the drama cd. the blue could be representing the more masculine depiction it has now but also stands out in its own way. the reason of yosuga is a lot like the stereotypical chaos depiction mainline smt became a bit infamous for, but it’s interesting that no chaos route has a female representative. the closest you can argue is nuwa in 5, but the destroy the throne stuff comes from her side chick that isn’t a chick (which is the closest ending to any typical chaos route), and she actually pushes for the worst ending- i mean the true neutral ending. every chaos rep is a man, and the neutral alignment tends to be where the leading lady resides in.

what interests me the most is her ring. it’s best shown in the concept art that this was something that must’ve been important to the symbolism if it never got left out.

roses have many different meanings based on color and general appearance. the saying “every rose has its thorns” rings true for chiaki, but red roses in particular are associated with love and passion. it could be a gift or could be to represent her passionate nature when it came to expressing her reason. not entirely sure, but it’s interesting.

something i also noticed is that her outfit slightly changed once she goes genocide mode. it’s a bit more purple, which can represent royalty and luxury, but the juxtaposition offered by the rose ring which she just so happens to hold onto could have this loop back around to rose symbolism. lavender roses symbolize mystical love and enchantment.

baal avatar is also interesting in her own right, as white is sparingly used.

takao is shown wearing white throughout the entire game which, while it can represent purity, seems to better represent one of its other meanings—vulnerability. she’s not at all innocent, being the one who knowingly helped start the conception and admits to hating the old world to a degree, and she’s the only human in the game that never truly gains power. her sponsor can’t save her, she can’t fight, hikawa always ends up harming her… she’s pretty much the damsel in distress who can’t ever truly be saved. old man luci wears white, though this may be to juxtapose his former status as an angel before being cast out of heaven or the fact that he thinks waging war against god can lead to a better universe, thus seeing his intentions as “pure.”

baal isn’t like this. chiaki gets her after murdering nearly every manikin, yes, but she’s strangely beautiful. all the other demonic sponsors are pretty grotesque. noah is a mistake and ahriman is a giant tentacle monster that’s literally an evil spirit. in fact, the baal in nocturne isn’t like how we usually see them in the series, as not only is he usually a man but is often power hungry. you can say this is the same for baal avatar, however, not only is baal an important god responsible for many important parts of nature and is highly respected, but the “avatar” label attached has special meaning in the series, with the race usually meaning “holy beast,” being aligned with law, and most importantly being the physical avatar of a god. unlike other smt games, the angels actually are for the reason of yosuga, and given how one of yosuga’s selling points is flushing out “impurities” and “wasted space,” it makes sense. that’s what the angels are trying to do in most of the games, that’s what law normally is, and chiaki vouches for it heavily.

to her, this baal is what fits best. she has become a beautiful, pure being.

and how you encounter her in the tower of kagutsuchi is the most unique. she’s not tucked away in some cramped room in a massive form—baal’s still pretty big but is more like a much taller person than a huge ol’ god—she’s out in the open. she doesn’t fully antagonize you especially not when you side with her reason. she’s also the one demonic sponsor you always fight. become an agent of yosuga? you fight her for dominance. go for the ending where kagutsuchi kicks you out? this is the final boss. she doesn’t get the same rocking boss theme all the others have—hers starts with the reason battle theme. her encounter is not normal. in some ways, it’s framed as tragic. some doomed fate where she’ll always end up dying by the demifiend’s hands.

she’s also the “nicest” out of all of hitoshura’s friends. takao is responsible for the end of the world, isamu’s a narcissistic dick, and yet when she first sees you and even when you disagree with her, she’s respectful. relieved you’re at least alive.

and if we’re going for the pov angle, she’s still seen in bright, serene places. she’s meant to be beautiful despite all the killing and the messed up philosophy talk.

she was his friend. she did care for him. despite it all, he thought of her to be pure and beautiful. despite how much he cared, he was the one to kill her, and i think that’s wonderfully depicted.

Kuroko’s Basketball | Jealousy

Atsushi Murasakibara: At first he thought it was a simple hobby, you liking volleyball. But Atsushi was very wrong. You took it up a notch and started watching old video matches, and even making trips out of the city to see a live game. But it all came to a head when he found you hosting a get together without him, your boyfriend. Old middle school friends you said, but he saw the way one of them looked at you. He saw it all. The gazes and the tender touches followed by hushed whispers. It all came to a head when many started leaving all but him.

“The reunion is over, why aren’t you going home?”

“I’m sorry— I’ll just go home..”

You gave your boyfriend a harsh look before stating.

“He’s going through a hard time right now. Why are you so rude?”

“We’ll it isn’t my problem, so don’t try to make it so.”

“Hey why don’t you stay in Iwa’s room.”

“You sure? I know he won’t be thrilled about it.”

“Don’t worry he’s still at his retreat. Plus, he said to take care of you. Something about how your girlfriend broke up with you, earlier.”

“I— thanks..”

“Make sure you apologize, and make it up to her.”

“I promise I will.”

And with that Oikawa made his way to Iwa’s room, and with the sound of the door clicking you huffed out a sigh.

“You know my brother Hajime? Oikawa is my little brother’s captain, and teammate.”

“I—”

“I wouldn’t expect you to know, any time I invited you to a match you would say no, or say you had better things to do.”

“I—”

“I don’t fault you— but just try to understand me. I’m doing this for my brother. Oikawa is his precious best friend, and captain. He learned and grew with him. So I can’t have you shattering his already broken heart.”

“If your so worried, you can stay over. Sleep on the couch, and mess up your back, for all I care.”

Shintaro Midorima: He loved the way you smiled. How you excitedly asked him about your horoscope. The way you cheered him on during his basketball matches. And especially how you always carried masking tape for his fingers, and nail fills for him. But most of all, he loved the way you gave him all your undivided attention ever since middle school. How regardless of your parents request you decided to enroll in Shūtoku High just for him. But regardless of how he felt, or thought you saw him: one thing remained. You were an absolute angel, sometimes he felt like he didn’t deserve you, not one bit. But when he heard Kazunari Takao tell him you were too pretty, and how one day he’ll be faced with the reality of you finding a boyfriend. And that though alone nearly killed him. But as fate would have it he accidentally heard you tell Takao about a date you had with a nearby school’s basketball team member. Midorima was petty he will admit it. He followed you, and laid in waiting even before the guy arrived. And low and behold, he scoffed at the fact this guy was below average. If you were going to choose someone at least let it be someone with at least half of Kise’s looks. He waited until you got up to order and he made his move. But he just strode up to your table and sat down, giving the guy the absolute stink guy.

“What’s your sign?”

“Um— Taurus.”

“Yup expected as much. Your not compatible with my beloved (Y/n)-chan now go before I lose my calm. You absolutely don’t deserve to breathe the same air as my beloved. And as I’m reading your horoscope I fear disaster might strike you. So don’t go out as much, and stay away from her.”

At his threat, the poor guy abruptly got up, and ran out the cafe door. You headed back to the table and where shocked at the sight in front of you.

“What are you doing here Midorima?”

“I live in the area so..”

“No you don’t, you liar. I know where you live!”

“I just stopped by for some dinner is all.”

“Midorima honestly…”

“The guy that was sitting down here left didn’t he?”

“Yeah..”

“Did you happen to bring up horoscopes again?”

“Yeah..”

“You owe me a date, so pay up.”

“You mean..”

“Yes dummy, sit back down, and eat with me.”

Midorima couldn’t help, but smile cheekily as you take a bite out of your cheeseburger.

Tetsuya Kuroko: Tetsuya was a simple man. He liked you since middle school so he asked you out. But truth be told you rejected him every single time. You told him the basketball manager couldn’t date one of the team members. But high school was going to be different. You weren’t his manager anymore. And so when he found out you would attend Seirin he jumped at the opportunity. But low and behold, you already joined the club, and were actively a manager. Tetsuya was beyond furious when he caught wind of you helping out other members with stretches. He hated the way your skirt was so short, or how you liked to tease the first years. So one day after a late night practice he cornered you and pushed you against the wall. Tetsuya didn’t mean to say such mean things, but he told you how you were acting like such a attention-seeker, and that you should only be allowing him to touch and be touched by him.

“Your mine, why do you let the other guys look at you like that. Does my opinions not matter anymore? If I was half as good as Kagami, or half as reliable as the captain or even Izumi you’ll like me right?”

“Tetsuya I like you enough, I always have you, idiot.”

And with that you ran out the gym with pools of tears streaming down your eyes.

Seijūrō Akashi: Akashi hated how you always were on the phone with someone named Haruka. At first it was random calls then it progressed into you going to meet them during his practice games. He questioned you one day, but you laughed it off. Saying he had nothing to worry about, but soon these days he couldn’t help, but panic whenever he heard your phone ring. And so he could help, but fret when you took your phone call out the restaurant, and bid him, and his teammates goodbye.

“What Rin’s back? Are you going to the old elementary to dig up the trophy? Can I— I’ll have you know it’s my trophy just as much as your three’s. I was on the team after all. Okay I’ll met you there.”

You felt a tap on your shoulder, and Akashi couldn’t help, but let out a sigh as he saw your wide smile.

“Something happen?”

“Actually yeah, they’re tearing down my old elementary school so me and some old classmates are gonna dig up a old time capsule.”

Akashi let out a sigh as he facepalmed.

“Are you actually foreal?”

“Yeah!”

And with that you were on your way. It was until days later did Akashi see you, but to his surprise you were with a guy.

“I heard you skipped class to swim at the pool again! How could you, you’ll be kicked out of the team at this point!”

“Don’t worry so much, it’s fine. Ms. Amakata helped me out.”

He couldn’t help, but take notice of the deep sign you let out.

“Fine, but make sure your not late to class, or skip again, if you do— Huh Akashi what are you doing here? I thought you had practice?”

“Um. I should go—”

“Wait Akashi let me introduce you to someone.”

“Haruka meet Akashi.”

“Akashi meet Haruka.”

“Haruka’s a guy?! Your kidding right?”

Haruka was visibly upset, and soon rather uninterested at Akashi’s out burst, but said nothing.

“So like are you two dating or something?”

You piped up and shook your head.

“Um, no. That’s literally, ethically, fundamentally, and spiritually impossible. Plus major gross.”

“Haruka, here is my younger brother.”

“Isn’t that right, Haruka?”

“Hmm.” Was the only response given. Akashi couldn’t help but sign in relief. Now he knew he had a chance at least.

Daiki Aomine: At first he loved how authentic you were. How you enjoyed other sports rather than just basketball, but some how along the way, he got frustrated. First it started with you bailing on his practice matches, then you soon started cancelling dates, but that wasn’t all as bad as he saw you during his official matches, but even then you found ways to bail on him.

“Sorry, I’m grounded.”

“Sorry, I have plans already. And I can’t bail.”

“My brother is finally coming home, so I can’t go out, you understand, right?”

Aomine was going insane. At this point he was beyond frustrated, but the breaking point was when he heard about how his teammates saw you with a rather handsome guy at a restaurant. Aomine was pissed at this point, and so he called you, and by the third time you didn’t answer he knew he had to do something. So he soon found himself in front of the restaurant his teammates mentioned. As he entered, it didn’t take him long to spot you, what infuriated him beyond believe was that the guy sitting next to you wasn’t just handsome, no that was a understatement; was his teammates trying to spare his feelings? He soon approached your table and rather abruptly sat down across from the two of you.

“Care to explain why you’ve been bailing on me, your boyfriend?!”

You were left like a fish without water, but thanks to Tobio’s intervention you found the courage.

“Relax, it isn’t what your imagining me and (y/n/n)—”

“(y/n/n)?!” Aomine was beyond pissed at this point, and so he got a hold of his collar trying to strike him, but you intervened once again.

“Hit him, and we’re done! You hear me?!”

Aomine could only flinch at your loud voice, and shutter away at your threat.

“Who is he? Why do you defend him so much? Are you dating him already? I never knew you had it in you to be that type of girl, (y/n/n).”

To your right, you felt Tobio stiffen and form a fist, but you grabbed his palm.

“Don’t. Tobio Kageyama. If you hit him, you’ll be bared from any further competitions. You have to beat Aoba Josai this time, right?”

“Right…”

“Date him? Please didn’t you heard me call his name?”

“Kageyama was it?”

“Now what’s my last name?”

“Kageyama— wait is he?”

“Yup exactly he’s my little brother. Come on, Tobio, let’s go home—”

“Wait (Y/n). I’m sorry—”

“We’ll talk about this later. And don’t you dare follow me! And this time a simple apology won’t cut it.”

Ryota Kise: wasn’t one for confrontation, but he swore his soul, and heart lit ablaze when he saw a interview of a basketball team member from a opposing school comment how he liked the model of the name (Y/n) (L/n). He couldn’t help, but choke out in disbelief as he heard this idiot actually announce on national television his unwavering love for you. He was sure to pay him back ten fold during his upcoming game against his school. He also made sure to invite you, to said match and announce your relationship. You could only smile tauntingly as Kise glared at the opposing team’s practice match video played on the tv.

“Kise, relax. You’ll beat him, and prove that your a better man, right?”

“Right.”

“So let’s forget this, and go get something nice to eat. I’m craving takeout.”

A smile made its way onto kise’s face, he could always count on you to take his mind off the difficult things.

Can't Help Falling In Love With You Chapter 2

With Takao having wondered off somewhere, Midorima decided the usual lunch places were too busy and filled with people he wasn't particularly close to. Drifting off to the rooftops, he recalled how Aomine used to skip there. Perhaps it would make the subject matters discussed in class settle down in his brain with more ease. He didn't expected to find you on the rooftops though, and especially not in the state you were in. Tears were running down your face and you were wailing over your lunch, snot dripping onto your bento box as not one, but several canned bacardi-coca cola mix drinks were scattered around your feet. Midorima's heart gave out at the sight. He had seen you smuggle one of those into school before, if it hadn't been given to you by Ichijo, but several? With the way your face looked, Midorima guessed you were at your limit and that one more would cause you to throw up. And there was still an unopened can next to your side. Midorima walked over, thinking it's time to do something now. To say something for once. You looked up as you saw him approach you. "L/n-senpai, what happened, if I may ask?" You blinked at him. "I am not quite sure where to start," you sniffled a bit before rubbing your eyes. "You're the friend of that Takao, aren't you?" "I suppose so. We're teammates, nanodayo." "Then you're that basketball star kid I keep hearing about?" Midorima felt slightly flustered you'd called him a star, even if it was a fact. "I probably am. Is it okay if I sit next to you, L/n-senpai?" You pursed your lips and nodded. His green eyes searched your face, its terribly lost, defeated look. "I won't tell anyone whatever you wish to confide in me." You looked at him and after a deep breath you asked, "Do you know Sairenji Suzuka?" "Isn't she a friend of yours?" "Yeah, well she was." "What happened between you two, if I may ask?" You swallowed and it took a while, but you managed to get out the painful words, "She's been stealing from me." "What has she been stealing?" Midorima looked at you, wondering if he was overstepping any line by asking these questions. "Money. My mom works at a nearby bar and we have this jar where we keep her tips that we use whenever we want to do something like a trip to the zoo. She had been noticing it kept getting drained whenever Suzuka was sleeping over. So she set up a camera to get evidence of it during our sleepover last night. I can't believe she could do something like this to me! She knows how little my mom makes, she knows we barely get to have nice things! And perhaps I could understand it if she used it for something good like saving for college or paying the bills but she is only doing it to fuel her food addiction and keep on eating her emotions away!" You were rambling, it was one constant word vomit that came from your lips, spurred by the alcohol and your emotions. But Midorima followed it perfectly, and his heart broke for you. His family wasn't poor but he could imagine how this was a painful betrayal to you. It made perfect sense, especially considering he had noticed Sairenji's appetite was most definitely a match for Murasakibara's. "Perhaps it would have been okay to you if she hadn't spent it on something so trivial, but honestly L/n-senpai, you shouldn't accept any friend who's taking something precious away from you with no regard for your feelings, nanodayo." The words caused a new wave of tears to emerge from your eyes and Midorima hesitantly laid his hand on your shoulder to comfort you. You looked at him, and there was something about your wobbling lips, the touched look in your eyes and the way you leaned into his touch, that made Midorima lean forward and crash his lips into yours, his fingers whiping away your tears.

Chapter 28: max gets bitchslapped

i realised maybe yesterday that giancarlo really just fails at his job as max's knight over and over and over again in this story and in this chapter he does it again. he let everyone know that max sneaked out and didn't do anything to cover up for him whatsoever HAHHAHAHA

so max gets back home. sick. tired. and judy comes over and bitch slaps him to oblivion

takao is all pumped practicing for a match against kai. and then it just suddenly is the fencing match day?? this pacing man. so i write these pointless chapters about rei and max just kind of gazing in each other's eyes and holding hands but i jump entire weeks of takao&kai progression forward because i want them to fight. this may honestly be more flattering to tyka than reimax. because rei and max progress at fucking snail pace even when they are gay w each other from like day one (or. day two. day one rei was calling max a hobo)

takao being like, i could immediately tell tourists apart from locals because of them Acting Rather Foolishly! is hilarious, also real

and then kyouju tries to use the Power of Friendship on kai but he. i laughed a bit too much at this

At one point Professor, who was also present with his parents, came to talk to me by our table; and he tried greeting Kai as well, saying how he’d heard a lot about him from me. Kai only granted him a questioning glare that was enough to make Professor shake in his boots and hurriedly wobble away with an apology.

a little pathetic that this is probably the most action-packed chapter of the fic to the date. you won't get anything this exciting anymore

this is also a not very well written chapter, as in it has a whole lot of straight-up typos, i guess i got too into it while writing the match HAHAHA

kai is a little shit who uses magic to fly and dodge takao's strike, and takao is like, wow he can fly i'm so in love. and then he also wants to fly for the rest of the story

takao wins! and he's so happy to have won in front of his own proud people! yay.

then the crazy storm wind happens and takao stops it by yelling out seiryuu's name, i always thought this was a nifty little scene myself. a bit short-lived but, it works i think.

this chapter is too stretched out tho. i should have cut it at the end before the part with kai looking at the paintings and then showing takao that he can also do fire magic, but i know i didn't because it takes place on the same day still. this is a lot of information packed into just this one chapter

Chapter 30: rei's number one enemy, internalised heteronormativity

this chapter starts off by takao complaining about kai having called him an idiot as the last line of the previous chapter, okay that makes the drawn-out end worth it

max has taken a hike to visit rick and doesn't seem to be coming back. byeeee

i can see the quality of my writing slipping here and i wonder why. like it's not bad, but there's a lot of… well idk, it just doesn't sound good. it's pretty dull, lots of poor punctutation choices. i did an elimination operation to semicolons

mao comes over to fangirl over a wedding catalogue and rei is like please shoot me in the head this sucks ass

the way i've portrayed mao in this early story is kind of icky. like she's very wifey with rei. just taking care of things for him and talking about marriage and clothes and fancy parties and she brings rei food and the list goes on. i've tried patching it up later by improving her role in the story but uuuuh yes. not sure what my thought process here was making it this way. maybe it's the internalised heteronormativity

Chapter 31: kai swinging weapons with his strong muscular arms, takao reacts like any normal boy would, i.e. damn he's hot

it's good that the takao stuff starts picking up here. also thinly veiled sword euphenisms. kai likes them long and thin. takao's is a bit curved.

the first line of this is better written than the entirety of the previous chapter

takao witnesses miguel descent into becoming a coffee addict i guess

max sends a postcard with a picture of. what takao calls. hairy cows

a lot of small things going on in this chapter. takao has a lot of frustration for kai being so cool and handsome and ripped with a sword in hand okay wow that got very gay very fast. takao leads kai right to ryuushinken and also tells him what it is like the fool in love he is

there was this real long ramble about some other city at the end of this, unrelated to anything and it didn't fit the pace of this already poorly paced chapter at all. i just eliminated most of it. like a semicolon

Chapter 32: rei is squeaky clean now

what are you gonna serve me this time rei. not much. unnecessarily detailed descriptions of how the purification period ends. why did i write this

i'm honestly not sure where i was going with this thing about a fake byakko-ou crown having the gem of byakko on it. this is one of the very few details i flat out forgot what its purpose was. feeling a bit too lazy to change it at this point since this has existed like this for so long now. it also feels weird to have a description of rei's crown in the story but nobody else's. but um. (i changed the description entirely btw. it was so dry. this chapter is a raisin)

this is one boring ass chapter. nothing happens in it. the mention of byakko's stone is honestly the only relevant fact in here, i mean apart from macarons

KISE literally was about to run into the court, but kasamatsu had to hold him back as the coach, referee, and other important staff came to circle around you. the person you were versing had elbowed you in the ribs when you caught the rebound ball, and unfortunately cracked them. luckily, the referee had spotten that foul, and kirisaki daichi were banned from competitive play for at least couple years— which kise thought, should be way more. he finally was able to catch you when you were walking towards the benches, and helped you to escort out of the building. outside, he sat you on the bench and allowed you to lean on him. “does it hurt?” he asked softly, careful not to move you around too much. you nodded, “the physician said i can’t play for the rest of the season. why? why do they fucking play like that?” your tears began to fall and he repeatedly kissed your forehead, knowing how much it hurts to stop playing mid-game and feeling useless about it. “you got it next year, y/n-cchi..” he muttered, “i swear, when it’s our turn to verse them, i will beat the living hell out of them. can i sleep over tonight?”

MIDORIMA has never shown so much expression. the minute he saw a basketball thrown to your face, which knocked you down. rage filled his expression and his fists were clenched (gosh, even takao was scared), but he knew better than to interfere with your treatment as the medical team circled around you. when the next game started, he rushed to the infirmary to you, taking your hand to kiss the knuckles. “shintaro, i’m fine.” you smiled, honestly kind of happy about his concern. he eyed your eyepatch, the sides all red and swollen, and frowned. “that’s so fucked up,” he muttered, “i hope they get their karma for that. disqualification is not enough.” you chuckled a bit and sighed, “i can’t play for the rest of this season. this bruise is pretty bad.” midorima frowned again, “i’ll be with you through everything, so don’t struggle alone.” after that, midorima made sure not to let you move so much. and he swore he will get back at kirisaki daichi when it was time for his playoffs.

KAGAMI was literally too stunned to speak. he knew what kirisaki daichi was like, but he never, ever, expected it to happen to you. so when he saw you get squished between two players when you were going for the rebound, he froze, and watched all the people go to circle you. “kagami-kun, you should check up on y/n-san.” kuroko said, nudging him a bit. and suddenly it hit him, and he ran onto the court, pushing the people crowding over you, immediately taking you in his arms. the medical team was hesitant, but he insisted he hold you. “fucking hell, let’s get you to the benches.” he gave the other team the iciest, deadliest glare before carefully guiding you to sit down. when you sat, he made sure your sight was blocked from the other team, not sparing them a glance of your situation. “where does it hurt?” “on a scale of one to ten, how much does it hurt?” he keeps asking all these probing questions until you kiss him to shut him up. “taiga, i’ll be fine.” you chuckled, “i hope they get fucking disqualified though.” kagami took a first aid kit from his bag (something he keeps on him at all times) and bandaged you up. “we’re gonna fucking get them back.” he uttered, “in the mean time, you’re staying with me.” 

HIMURO was furious. he was the one who called the timeout even though he wasn’t in the position to╴but he didn’t care. he saw, with his two own eyes, a player purposely trip you, then later trample on you to “get to the other side of the court.” “they better get fucking disqualified,” himuro expressed to the coach. with the help of murasakibara, they both brought you to the infirmary, only letting the nurse and teammates see you. when players from kirisaki daichi tried to peek, he slammed the door, yelling at them to go away or go to hell. eventually everyone left and it was just you two. “hey, i’m here.” he whispered to you, stroking your head. “does it hurt? can you move?” you smiled at him and shook your head, “i think i can’t play for a bit.” his heart shattered and gripped your hand, kissing your forehead. “don’t worry, i’ll take care of you.”

KIYOSHI warned you. he told you multiple stories about the times he got personally injured, and how it’s brutal, cruel, and every bad word in the dictionary. he even tried to convince you to skip this match for the sake of keeping you safe, but you insisted that the team needed you, and if something happened, you’ll be okay either way; you couldn’t win if you didn’t try. but the minute the other player pushed you down with the ball when they blocked you, making you crash onto the ground, kiyoshi’s eyes widened and he sprinted onto the court. he did not give a damn about what the referee was yelling about— something along with “you shouldn’t be here,” or “go back, go back!” along with the rest of your teammates and coach, they circled around you, but the only person in your line of vision was kiyoshi. “your nose.. it’s bleeding sweetheart. can someone get me some gauze and tissues?” your teammate quickly obliged, and kiyoshi tried to treat you with so much care, but it hurt too much. “sorry love, i know it hurts.” you shook your head, “thank you so much, teppei.” when you looked in the direction of kirisaki daichi, all of them were smirking and giggling, and the person who caused your injury gave an evil grin at you, sticking their tongue out. you gulped, and when kiyoshi saw what you were staring at, he scowled. “no wonder you guys never go to finals╴you don’t even know how to play.” with that, he guided you to the infirmary, where he whispered sweet nothings as he treated you and you rested.

You were having trouble hiring employees and you were talking to him about it, and he was in a bad mood prior to you approaching him

"You're not going anywhere with this. It would just be better to give up on it. You're not going to make it that far even if you do succeed. And can you leave? I'm busy and all you're doing is acting as a distraction."

You just froze, you couldn't believe what he had just said

Not only did he know how much work you were putting in, he also knew how excited you were for the future of your shop too

You didn't even say anything, you just froze with shock, hurt, and surprise and stomped out of his office

You left the house, you needed some time to cool off and cry

It took Akashi a second to realize what he had said and how hurtful his words were, so he started looking all over for you in the house. He goes into the garage to see your car is gone and he assumes the worst.

You stay by your best friend for the night and they comforted you and told you he probably didn't mean it, and that you can stay as long as you need

He takes you out to eat at your favorite restaurant and watch a movie afterwards back at home, kisses you tons and holds you in his arms when you fall asleep.

He acts like your affection is kryptonite, even though you're not a clingy or overly-affectionate person

You guys had been together for about 3-4 months

He always brushes you off even at the most simplest acts of affections, you're starting to really question if he even wants to be together.

There was a break in between practice and you went to give him his water bottle and give him a hug

"Hey Shin he's your water bottle, don't work yourself too hard okay?"

Now that he looks back at it, it has been mainly you doing most of the stuff in the relationship, and he can see why you feel like it's only you trying

"You're right, it has been mainly you doing stuff for both of us. I'm gonna start putting in more effort because it's time I do. I'm sorry that I've been making shitty excuses to not hang out with you, and cancelling all of a sudden. I'll be honest when I don't feel like going out and I'll spend more time with you."

Midorima Shintarō: How Strong Is He?

So, I’m making this post in response to a couple asks I got (one by @taigaakagami and another anonymous one) asking some questions about Midorima:

Do I think Midorima is underrated in the GoM? This question includes Midorima being unable to go into the Zone/analysis on if he even needs the Zone.

What would it would be like if Midorima did enter the Zone? I’ll also talk about why Midorima hasn’t entered the Zone/if he even can enter the Zone.

Do I think Midorima is the best shooting guard in the series, despite the fact that characters like Hyuuga, Tatsuya, and Mibuchi are also strong shooting guards?

I don’t know that this post will be super long, but I’m going to try and answer these questions thoroughly. I’ll say upfront that I do think Midorima is the weakest of all the GoM members, excluding Kuroko. I’ve said this before in my posts, and the reasoning goes beyond the fact that Midorima is the only member of the GoM starters that hasn’t gone into the Zone. Let’s break down Midorima’s skills first, and then we can get into the comparisons.

P.S. For the sake of argument, just know that when I say “GoM members” in this specific post, I never mean to include Kuroko. No offense to Kuroko, but on his own, he isn’t in the same league as the GoM starters.

Midorima’s Abilities & Weaknesses

Midorima’s basic abilities include his shooting accuracy, his defense, his intelligence, and his physical strength. He also improved his endurance over the course of the series to enhance his ability to shoot physically draining shots for longer periods of time. Of course, Kuroko no Basket is famous for naming every advanced ability a player has, so Midorima also has a few of those. His Super Three Point Shot allows him to shoot accurate three-pointers from the half-court and full-court lines, and the Sky-Direct Three Point Shot is a combination shot with Takao where Takao will pass the ball to Midorima��s hands--as he’s already in a shooting form--and Midorima makes the shot. This prevents any opponents from blocking the shot as Midorima can throw it off before the opposing team realizes what’s happened. Unless it’s Akashi, but we don’t need to get into that.

Though Midorima’s endurance isn’t a weakness for him anymore, like it was at the beginning of the series, he is still weak when it comes to the physicality of his GoM skills. Yes, he can make incredible shots that no one else can make, but it will definitely tear up his body in the process. If he’s able to make it to adulthood without seriously injuring his joints and muscles, he’ll be unstoppable, but until then, Midorima has to put limiters on his ability to remain healthy. Additionally, he can’t enter the Zone. Whether he needs to enter it or not is something we’re about to get into, but for now, it’s considered a weakness.

Is Midorima Underrated?

Asking if Midorima is underrated is kind of a subjective question, so really, this answer is up to whoever is reading this, but if I’m trying to be as objective as possible, I’m going to look at the comparisons between him and the other GoM members. How do fans of KnB react to Midorima in comparison to the other members? Do they generally think his abilities are weaker? Are his abilities weaker?

Here’s the thing: from what I know of the fandom surrounding KnB, it seems that people simply find Midorima’s abilities boring. Yes, everyone loves the Sky-Direct Three, but that’s because it’s a Midorima/Takao thing. It’s an awesome skill because it needs both of them. I think the mystique that comes with Akashi, the overwhelming awe that comes with Murasakibara, the amazement that comes with Aomine, and the surprises that come with Kise are too difficult to compete with. Midorima doesn’t have the same wow factor that they do. So, to that end, I don’t think Midorima is underrated because he is what he is. Some people really love him as a character and a player, and some people probably dislike him. But I don’t think people are underestimating his abilities. I think it’s perfectly clear to most people that his abilities are the most vanilla, if you will, despite potentially being the most useful. Plus, there’s the fact that he can’t enter the Zone. So, you’d be forgiven if you thought Midorima was the weakest based on that since the other members have all gone into the Zone.

Does Midorima Need the Zone?

Is Midorima underrated on the grounds that people think he’s weak for not being able to go into the Zone, despite him not even needing the Zone to being with? That is a possibility, yeah. I’ll talk about what a Midorima-in-the-Zone playstyle would look like in a minute, but I’ll agree with the notion that Midorima probably doesn’t need the Zone at all.

When players enter the Zone, you’re basically looking at the enhancement of all basic abilities. You’re faster, your more accurate, you’ve got more power. The downside to the Zone is that it drains the stamina of the player significantly. The requirements for entering are vast amounts of talent and passion for basketball.

The way I see it is that Midorima may actually be hindered by going into the Zone. The endurance training he completed to be able to use his abilities for an entire game would be wasted by draining his stamina in the Zone. Also, Midorima isn’t a very mobile player. He can be swift, and he does use power on defense, but his position as a shooting guard means constant movement isn’t necessary. Aomine, for example, needs to be able to drive and jump and dodge and pivot, so an increase in his physical abilities would only make those things more precise. Akashi needs to outmaneuver his opponents at the top of the key and make the correct passes to get the ball through, so being more agile benefits him. For Midorima, though, those improvements would go to waste.

What if Midorima did enter the Zone?

What would it look like for Midorima to be in the Zone? Why can’t he enter it already? Let’s answer that second question first. If Midorima meets both of the requirements for being in the Zone, why hasn’t he entered the Zone? Is it because he doesn’t have the talent? Well, no, because he’s a GoM member. And we know he loves basketball. So, what is it that keeps him away? I don’t think there’s a clear answer to this, but if I had to reach for one, it would be that Midorima doesn’t go one-on-one with people enough for him to focus in the way you need to if you’re gonna get into the Zone. I know that Midorima did go one-on-one with Kagami, but that showdown never had the same high-energy, high-movement feel that the Kagami/Aomine showdown did, or the Kagami/Kise one did.

As a shooting guard, Midorima is basically getting the ball to throw it off right away. He’s not in a position that favors one-on-one moments. I mean, of course, there’s always going to be some moments like that because shooting guards still have defenders, but it’s nothing like a power forward trying to make it past a center or a point guard trying to shake his defender so he can drive. It’s mostly just a.) the shooting guard gets the ball and b.) the defender tries to block it or knock it out of their opponent’s hands. Without the sense of rivalry being enhanced with one-on-one play, Midorima never really focuses hard enough to enter the Zone.

There is also the possibility that he can’t enter the Zone because he relies on his team more than the other GoM members. Which would also explain why Kuroko can’t go into the Zone. All of the GoM members rely on their teammates--well, Aomine is a work in progress, but he’s open to it, so we’ll leave that there--but Midorima is dependent on his team to perform at his best. Before meeting Takao, this wasn’t the case, but his skills elevated with the Sky-Direct Three, so his best now includes that. Meaning, he needs someone else to achieve it. Maybe that’s a stretch, but nonetheless. Look at it this way: Midorima is the only GoM member that hasn’t done the whole, “No offense to my team, but this moment is just about me” thing. Like, even Kise, who is super pro-teamwork, expressed his immaturity during his match with Seirin because he wanted to carry the burden of winning on his own. Midorima doesn’t do that, though, so maybe his lack of selfishness is why he can’t enter the Zone.

But what if he did?

I honestly don’t know that I can imagine a Midorima-in-the-Zone playstyle. It’s not like his accuracy can increase in the Zone if his accuracy is always 100%, right? I really think the only thing that would be different about Midorima in the Zone would be his speed. Which would, essentially, equate to him being able to throw shots off faster. I guess, potentially, he may step out of his traditional role as a shooting guard if he were in the Zone. Like, maybe he’d steal the ball back after a turnover or something. Takao definitely wouldn’t be able to keep up with him in the Zone, though, so I’m sure a game with Midorima in the Zone would end up like any other GoM-in-the-Zone game: Midorima running the whole thing by himself. I really don’t think it would look much different than the games we’ve already seen with Midorima, though. He’d just be sharper. I guess that’s why he was never written to go into the Zone because his abilities don’t really lend themselves to superhuman improvement. Probably because they’re already pretty superhuman.

Is Midorima the Best Shooting Guard in KnB?

Can I answer this with a short answer? Yes, he is. I’m not gonna front and say that the other incredible shooting guards in the series wouldn’t give Midorima a good fight. Tatsuya and Mibuchi, especially, but Hyuuga has also proven that he’s a worthy opponent for him. But it really comes down to accuracy. Midorima could be tricked by Tatsuya shots or foul off of Mibuchi’s, but they can miss. Midorima can’t. Actually, if it came down to a battle of accuracy, Hyuuga is probably the one I’d pick to go up against Midorima. And we’re talking individual abilities here, okay, not a team verses Midorima. One-on-one, Midorima’s basic abilities as a shooting guard outweigh anything else. That’s what they were designed to do when Midorima was written as a character, so I think it’s accurate to say that Midorima would win against any other shooting guard in the series 9 times out of 10. Now, that tenth time may be an interesting discussion to have, but that’s another post for another time.

Well, sorry this took so long to post. I meant to post it about a month ago, but hectic lives don’t leave room for KnB blogs. Anyway, please let me know your thoughts on this topic as I’m sure there are some of you reading that think Midorima is the strongest GoM player or that he’s so weak, any other shooting guard could beat him. The more you thought about it, the more convinced you were. You decided to try and on Friday immediately after your lessons you went to the gym. You knew that at 5 p.m. the Kaijou team would start their training, so you only had an hour to take off your whole uniform, jump into the P.E.’s tracksuit and pick one ball from the big bin and start slowly throwing into the basket hoop.

Of course, it’s easy to guess that it was hard for you to hit into the hoop with your... small height. Certainly when you were born, you didn’t queue for ‘being tall’, but rather for a nice smile and big eyes. No wonder that for the first ten casts only one was successful and it was certainly a coincidence, because the ball spun three times on the rim before falling inside.

“I suck in this game.” You muttered under your breath, again taking a position on the first line on the court.

You were so absorbed in the game that you didn’t even notice how a curious blond-head looked inside the gym because of the noise and the light on. What a surprise for Kaijou’s ace who saw you in front of the basketball board and the ball in your hands.

However, when he noticed your next inaccurate shot he laughed under his breath. “I think you’re a little too short for this game, Y/Ncchi.” He said in an amused voice, entered the room. You turned to the voice and then sighed.

“And too short for you to notice me, huh?” You added wearily, catching the ball.

“Y/Ncchi... I always see you!”

“I don’t think so. But I don’t blame you. I just wanted to... impress you. You like basketball, so maybe you would like me more if I could play with you.” You shrugged, throwing ball into the hoop again. Miss. “Shit.”

The blonde man shook his head approaching you. “I like you no matter what you do or how you do it. You don’t have to play basketball to impress me. You should change you for you and only you, not me or someone else. Anyway, I said what I said. I notice you all the time, Y/Ncchi. You looked pretty last time when you had a ponytail. Your new perfume was amazing too. Hmm, now when I think about it, I don’t praised you for that, right? Aomine definitely loved teasing you the most if your height was at stake. He usually made you as his own armrest or asked what’s weather below. They were a puppy jokes that somewhat irritated you, somewhat amused you, and somewhat embarrassed you, but what can you do? After all, they were just pokes and you knew that well. In retaliation, you often mocked him by calling him a ladder, giraffe or Eiffel Tower.

Daiki was glad you weren’t offended about it because... you were incredibly cute to him when your cheeks turned red and slight insults came from your lips. Of course he would never say it out loud, but you were super fluffy for him and he liked this side of you. And hey, as your tall boyfriend he had nice views from above. For this and if necessary he liked to take you on his lap or cuddle with you on the armchair, because you were the pocket-sized person and he could cover your whole body by his.

But as I wrote, Aomine would never have said it out loud. He just always laughed, saying you were shrunk again.

I mean, yes. Aomine had the right to make fun of you, but no one else him could do it, because he knew that after all your height is your complex. In any case, Shin has his own way of showing affection, which is primarily based on texting to you or bringing for you your lucky items for the day; for example, recently, Midorima brought you a key ring with a puppy's pendant, because Oha Asa mentioned that this wouldn't be a good day for your zodiac... Sweet.

Today, however, he brought to school only an item for you (by the way, it was a Tokyo’s guide), or so you thought, because Shintarou always discusses with you about his lucky thing. And today he didn’t say a single word about it. He only took your hand and led you to class, saying that he would come for you at your next break.

And so, throughout today’s day Midorima didn’t leave you even for a moment, and by the way he still walked with you by the hand, which was a bit strange for you because Shin didn't like a public PDA. Takao was equally surprised.

Only when you started coming back to home with the green-haired man who was walking next to you (of course with your fingers laced with his) you decided to ask Shintarou if something had happened.

With Murasakibara, no matter if you were 155 centimeters tall, 168 centimeters tall or even 180 centimeters tall... you would still be small for him. And because you were below average, your relationship looked at least funny, but also sweet.

Of course, Atsushi didn’t care about your height, what’s more – he considered that it’s your advantage because he was pleased to took you in his arms while watching movies or grab your hands and play with them. Atsushi is a very supportive boy! If someone else teases you and you feel bad about your height difference, then your man always grabs the other person's head and asks rhetorically whether to crush him. Therefore, in order not to feel bad about it, you immediately offer him something to eat; if it's one of his three favorite dishes he'll probably follow you like a faithful dog.

He asked, carefully touching the subject because he knew Midorima would otherwise ignore his every word. "Yes we are. Don't tell me you're so foolish to judge her on where she comes from nandayo." Midorima asked, looking at his friend. "Of course I am not, I've had enough conversations with her to know she is caring, sweet and somewhat gentle despite where she comes from. I'm just concerned what people are going to say to you for dating her, but it's not like you've ever cared about that." Takao said, secretly envious of Midorima's guts. As his crush whispered and asked if they were okay, he was quick to play it off. When his crush immediately offered a hand to help him up, he decided he could take advantage of this. 

He took their hand and brought it his lips, kissing their ring finger with a cheeky smirk. “Got you.” he would tease. 

When his crush promptly passed out, he caught them and panicked, which caused chaos in the library. 

Himuro Tatsuya was now banned from the library to protect the well-being of the other girls, but now he had a reason to approach his crush when he needed a book. 

Midorima 

Oh, you KNOW Takao was the one who tripped him. He knew Midorima had a massive crush on someone but wasn’t making any progress. So being the best friend he was, he stuck his foot out when Midorima was walking in the hallway. 

As the green-haired shooting guard fell flat on his face, it also broke his glasses, which was not according to plan. But Takao still considered it a success, as Midorima’s crush ran over in a panic. 

Midorima stiffened when he recognized his crush’s voice, but because he couldn’t see a thing, his crush held his hand and helped him to his feet. He turned red as his crush checked him for injuries, all while Takao fought back his laughter. 

Takao pushed (Name) to take him to the nurse’s office, and to walk him home, much to Midorima’s horror. “Takao, you better watch out tomorrow.” Takao didn’t take the threat seriously at all, merely smirking and waving. 

The threat never came to fruition, as now Midorima had a reason to take his crush out on a ‘thank you lunch’ AKA a date, and they came to Midorima’s classroom to check on them often. 

Kagami

Kagami slipped because Nigou got loose and chased him out of the gym while wanting to play. He was running blindly, so he didn’t even notice his crush walking down the path until he crashed into them. 

He landed right on top of them, but his hands instinctively reached out to grab break his fall so he didn’t crush them under his weight. 

OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD ONE OF HIS HANDS LANDED ON THEIR CHEST WTF HE WANTED TO DIE.
