2.2 spoiler analysis (?)

The most tragic thing about Sunday is that he didn't learn anything. Granted he was trying to convince our side of his plan and we lept on the offense to try and stop him instead of talking to him, it might've not convinced him but it gives him a broader perspective. He who doesn't know the world, only dreams. Sunday's philosophy happened as a result of his shelterdness. It's ultimately flawed because what he thinks is weakness is too broad when he actually means the weak willed and the unfortunate. I actually agree on that part, some ppl are dealt some card that can't be changed, but he thought of firefly as a weakling even tho she isn't weak willed, she's fighting for herself . He only knows penacony, and how everyone here is only trying to escape from something, a job, a past, and eventually a life. It was the impeding horror that his wish cannot come true because no higher power can ever grant them the perfect world, and the crushing sadness as he sees people helpless.

But escapism is inherent in humans, and that's why his plans never were about changing reality, or fighting for the world. He was the one who escaped the most from life and living, from pain and tragedy. He, Is the Weakling. And so the shadow of nihility loomed over.

if he wasn't ascending but kept being a human god then I can only assume he'd break, because he is not protecting the weak anymore, he's holding on their everything, and they'd lay every burden on him to fix. It was true when robin said that the order cannot fix humanity's flaws, and Sunday had the fatal impressions that the weak needed to be "babied", instead of nurtured and led to become strong themselves, and that the weak would rather not fight against the odds. I was a bit iffy about how the crew had no real argument but that last line...damn it was too good. Life slumbers, so that someday we wake up. And I think that's the moral of the story. People have their ups and downs, we struggle and it gets too hard to bear, so we escape, and that's okay. But then dawn comes again and we have to face life. "There's no night with no darkness"

I still semi support Sunday's plan, because the moral of the story to us was to face reality, but this is a fictional world, we can never have a dude ascend to create this paradise to us, but they can.

Sunday is so stubborn, as he falls down from the defeat of the duel he said would decide the better ideology, he still reached to the sky and lamented over his loss, as if humanity lost, and people would still suffer. But wasn't that the point of the dual? Wasn't that what should've convinced him? He falls motionlessly even as robin hugs him.

Everything was too strange to him, when TB tells him we sleep so that someday we wake up, he's stunned into silence,like it's too late of a conclusion he never came to because HE never woke up. And thus, he wakes to weep.

If you've seen the 2.3 LC with Sunday on it, spoilers for description if you mind : he once again despairs over the loss, and what does he eventually say? That maybe....maybe there's a way... *Sigh* we know of elio's letter to him, but Sunday gets stubborn like with sparkle so I'm not sure if he'll agree but, not the order again pls;;;

If anyone can articulate what path Sunday was walking on (clarification: as an aeon xD) hit me up! I can't explain it...he didn't fully believe in the order, nor Harmony, him saying to ena that humanity was the one who created you sounds like he believes in humanity, yet he doesn't, it's like he believes in the path but not the aeon (or their track record of destruction lol). Sunday has the kind of contradictions that tingle one's brain

about both sparkle and sampo breaking the fourth wall ! i was thinking about that these days, and it's nice to see someone also talking about that

to add my thoughts on that, i believe that all masked fools are indeed able to break the fourth wall! just like aha doing (that one event on the simulated universe where they realize we're not actually akivili, there might be more that I'm not aware of tho).. but that information, of aha breaking the fourth wall as well made me think of the elations philosophy and all..

the story of aha climbing the three only to realize life was meaningless reads as them realizing that the universe is probably not real, that they are living inside a game, much like the simulated universe event,, so, there's a chance that aha, the fools and the mourning actors are all aware that they are not real, that is, their universe consists of a game! and because of that the fools seem to put effort in making things interesting for Us, the players of said game, while of course having fun themselves, because if it's all a game it doesn't matter anyway

anyway! thats what ive been thinking about, sorry if you already discussed any of this information,,

(one more thing that i just thought about is the fact that we hear ahas laughter in the phantylia fight, meaning that aha probably knows that we are the protagonist? thus watching us? unsure still but makes sense in my head)

Regarding the Fools all being able to break the fourth wall, it's certainly starting to look that way! I wouldn't be surprised by this point. Maybe they know all kinds of wild secrets that would blow people's minds hahaha

I'm also really curious to encounter Mourning Actors and learn of the differences between them and Emanators

Aha seems to definitely have Their sight on the Trailblazer. It would be interesting if the Aha in SU was the real one; I imagine if any Aeon had the ability to do this, it would be Them.

As creepy as it is to hear Them laugh, I also can't help but find it hilarious how They're laughing at Phantylia getting her ass handed to her akjsjskdjsjs

Here’s the entry for the Mourning Actors. They believe that “all beings should renounce joy and endure grief to temper their spirits” and “advocate celibacy and penance.”

Basically, from the vibes I’m getting, they’re the “stop having fun” guys. 😅

Now, there is a brief mention about the Mourning Actors in Dan Heng’s Character Story (Part 3) and something about it intrigues me.

“He boards another spaceship, and the passengers are all wearing different masks. He nearly has his memory stolen, and is forced to listen to a lecture that sounded like mad ramblings.”

Dan Heng nearly had his memory stolen.

What the fudge???

This is interesting to me because in this game, when I hear something related to memories in almost any manner, I think of the Remembrance, in particular the Garden of Recollection. Why would a Mourning Actor or any follower of the Elation be able to manipulate memories? Aha blesses the Mourning Actors with Aeonic powers, but they’re the Aeon of Elation; or maybe it’s because of the apparent trickiness with the Elation that someone was somehow blessed with the power to tamper with memories, and Dan Heng was unlucky enough to encounter them.

But, if that is indeed not the case, then did he encounter a Memokeeper? Because stealing memories, while dubious, would still be one of the things Memokeepers would do to preserve memories. (Or, perhaps he encountered a Memosnatcher, instead?)

They steal and deceive, using every means necessary.

With this in mind, I would not be surprised if that Actor (or possibly Memokeeper) partially contributed to Dan Heng’s memory issues at that point.

The Mourning Actors also reported the destruction of the Tia'nua galaxy to the IPC...so I guess they're just your local depressed, but reliable neighbor.

After some much needed time here are my Sampo Koski headcanons! There are a few people in the community I take heavy inspiration from like Feroluce and Sorrin so please go check them out. You'll definitely see where their work gave me much needed inspiration.

Primary headcanons

Sampo is an emulator, but not currently active in his role. He started as an actor that became director with his innate skills to work a crowd and more, it only was natural for him to step into the role as director while still partaking in the performance as a background character or side to keep the story moving flawlessly.

It's physically impossible to unmask Koski, Sparkle might be in possession of his original mask but he still has one. The mask Sparkle has is the one seen in her light cone ‘it's showtime’ mixed with the predominant mask in Aha’s artwork in the simulated universe with the gem. The mask he uses while she has his original is a half face mask that hides his eyes.

One of the odder effects from being an emulator, his eyes work oppositely. His eyes naturally have the appearance of being dilated while when they actually do they become more snake/cat like. A very long time ago this wasn't the case and his eyes worked how they should but this isn't isn't the case anymore with how long he's been an emulator.

The name Sampo Koski isn't his original name. The name was chosen for his performance on Jarilo-IV, his whole character at that. Though, one could say Sampo Koski is as much him as it isn't. Such facts are heavily true when the script for this performance was heavy up to him to build an believable character for.

The type of elation Sampo follows is more close to the original Aha used to be. elation comes in many forms, sometimes even extreme emotions that drive people to overjoyed almost manic laughter or overwhelming sorrow. Elation that's paraded by the tavern and the followers disgust Sampo to a degree. To him the Mourning Actors follow a more truthful yet sorrow filled path of Elation compared to Sparkle and the others.

The one oddity the Mourning Actors and Sampo share are extremes. While the Mourning Actors live in sorrow and anguish, Sampo in some situations feels extreme emotions that don't always outwardly show properly. True sorrow is shown by sobs broken by laughter he can't fully control while euphoric happiness can leave him laughing in such a way fitting of the Aeon he is an emulator of.

Having people willingly be friends with him outside of business or the work he does is something Sampo isn't used to. He's the background character, the comedic relief or one off side character. The idea of someone genuinely wanting to be friends with him, not including children, doesn't seem real to him. He isn't the likable character after all, none of his roles ever have been.

Aha is aware that Sampo follows both them and IX. The paths are similar in nature with both holding disregard to existence as a whole. If Aha didn't approve or find it entertaining Sampo would have exploded out of existence in a burst of confetti and the soft sound of bells ringing in the distance.

Koski has multiple safehouses across Jarilo-IV, from the underground, over world and outside the walls. His favorite and safest is deep into the blizzard outside the walls, far enough were determined Silvermane’s wouldn't go and away from the more aggressive fragmentum. At one point he had an apartment in the administrative district until it was burned down. It was the only place he actually paid legally while using his persona Brughel Poisson.

Interchangeable headcanons

Route ≜ - Sampo is a creation of Aha’s. He appeared one day on an forgettable planet around the age of Thirteen to stir up trouble for shits and giggles at Aha’s direction. Overall his creation by Aha was for shits and giggles just to see what would happen.

Route ≗ - (While unlikely, this idea scratches my brain delightfully!) Sampo was a part of the Mourning Actors and broke away once they were looked upon by Aha to embrace the path while starting to follow IX. He was the director before becoming an actor in the tavern, he doesn't believe in the Elation the Tavern does due to its naturally harmful nature he can't bring himself to follow.

Weapons

The smoke bombs Sampo uses hold very little effect on himself. He would have to inhale more than what it takes to knock out ten people to pass out. The smoke bombs he uses are harmless in that regard, unless one has asthma the only danger is being knocked unconscious.

Sampo does have two different kinds of bombs, he very rarely brings out his truly dangerous ones that rather than showing a happy expression have a sorrow filled one. He would never use those against people, he much rather smooth talk his way out of things or disappear in a burst of smoke.

Backstory mixed with open ended ideas

Sampo had found out about Aha’s origins through Aha themself. During his time as an active Emulator regardless of path he spoke with Aha on multiple occasions, primarily about scripts and similar subjects before it naturally came up in conversation. He was put at ease knowing the path he walks is true even with the push back and slight distrust from other followers of Aha.

In all of Sampo’s acts he won't kill. He's only done so once and was sick with himself afterwards even though it had been in self defense. He has no issue killing Fragmentium and similar things but another human isn't up for discussion, he rather take a beating if he can't escape in his usual methods. At worst he can use his power as emulator to push the act in his favor to avoid such things.

It takes a lot to make Sampo break character, very few have been able to genuinely upset Sampo enough to get a truly raw response. If one somehow does, Sampo has his ways to make the memory feel fake.

While most wouldn't know it, Sampo is genuinely a good cook be it sweets or savory meals he's good at cooking and enjoys getting to do it! He makes the Silvermane guards breakfast for a reason even if the guards don't know it's him.

Depending on the performance Sampo is taking part in the character he is acting as usually ends with them passing away. It's a peculiar way that helps him abandon his previous persona and personality. If he knows the persona will be useful later on he tends to simply vanish without any reason or make up an elaborate lie to make his disappearance believable until he steps back into the role.

The proud and confident head of security at Afterlife, he wears many masks and all bear a smile. Route ≗ backstory

Sampo had joined the mourning Actors rather young, decades before Aha would turn their gaze towards them and give them emulator status. Rather than joining the Fools he had been taken in by the actors during one routine stop to perform.

The then director found Sampo rummaging through their equipment, only to learn later on Sampo had stolen personal objects of value and a few masks. The director hadn't seen a teenager already walking the path of Elation without actively having a mask. The director would later on give Sampo an ultimatum, be turned in to the police or return what he had stolen and help clean up the mess he made. Sampo took the ladder.

It wasn't a complicated decision for either party in the end, the Mourning Actors welcomed Sampo into the group as an actor. The director and multiple actors of a course of three days saw the skill Sampo has and could better. While they didn't particularly like what he was using his skills for, the director wanted to see Sampo grow more than what this dying planet held. The rest was relative history, Sampo traveled with the group on their gondola. As his skills progressed and he showed interest they allowed him to perform, to wear one of these masks.

Towards his end of the time with the group he became the director, the previous stepping back due to age yet still helping. Only when Aha would look towards the group and make them emulators would Sampo leave. The original director took the role once more while Sampo left to truly learn more about Aha now that he was an emulator himself and IX.

To this day The Mourning Actors would welcome him, they know of him under different names; different faces but they'll always know him. The person behind the performances. The man who would cry with them in sorrow and effortlessly bring everyone together.

Route ≗ headcanons

The mourning Actors still have the mask he would use, it's one of the few in their possession that they won't use.

Sampo’s broken heart motif in my opinion comes from the Mourning Actors, while he holds no regrets over the path he has taken he still mourns like they do. Watching Jarilo-IV slowly die even with its preservation hurt him deeply, why else would he have helped the trailblazer’s? He doesn't wish to see it become a wasteland, watch those he genuinely cares about perish.

When Sampo is an active Emulator and is actively showing it has two different appearances. Comedy and tragedy which are shown by the snake and broken heart alongside his mask which can while being worn move to take either an expression of Elation or Melancholy. While taking on Melancholy he heavily plays into what the mourning Actors have become, while it might not be his true emotions deep down his acting can make everyone believe without any assistance from being an emulator.

If any of the mourning Actors shown up on Jarilo-IV Sampo would make himself as scarce as physically possible. He wouldn't be able to keep the act around those who he genuinely can call family. Though if they were to perform he would attend, it certainly would be a sorrow filled performance for him.

Route ≜ Backstory

Aha had seen many different kinds of dolls, puppet's and the like yet they never have seen a human one. One that can act without its puppeteer guiding them at all times. In truth Aha didn't think they would keep the human around, an once cute teenager with blue hair and vivid green eyes. Seeing the potential in their human puppet the joke just kept running and running until the puppet was more human than Aha ever intended. For many years Aha played with him, instigated truble on many different planets while watching what trouble the human could make on his own. A proper fool amongst the tavern. Created namelesly the teenager took roles flawlessly, performed with his whole heart and very soul to make such moving acts that brought both Elation and Melancholy it was only rightful that the human was quietly given the emulator status. He was already made by Aha, his body was built from the very start to take the tainted divinity.

The faint scar-like marks that curl around his wrists and ankles are flawless played off; a criminal is bound to have scars after all, even going as far to cover them with useful gloves. The very fact Sampo has been given an perfect replica— perhaps even the actual mask Aha themselves has in their collection while appearing places should have been an indicator to anyone with an lick of knowledge that Sampo Koski, the true nameless actor was nothing more and nothing less than an Elating actor. Perhaps IX is even aware of such facts and allows the actor to follow both paths from keeping Aha themselves away.

Route ≜ Headcanons

While Sampo is human in the traditional aspect, his very being down to his genetics make-up is a joke. He relates to no one, only his human form and blood is what gives him any ties to humanity as it's known. Something that Aha finds hilarious.

Sampo has a true love hate relationship with Aha and IX, the deeper the love the deeper the hate. His whole existence is a joke, a background actor who'll never get the sweeter lines or care from the audience. Nothing matters yet his own morals against hurting the helpless keep him from jumping in the same direction so many fools have.

While odd, Sampo has perfect circular scars around his wrists and ankles. If Aha for lack of better terms is forcing our darling criminal to do something the marks take on a golden hue.

The mask Sampo does have that is from Aha’s personal collection is genuine against what Sparkle or anyone else might say. The Mask itself can exist in two places at once with the gem itself being able to be rapidly swapped for a fake which unless one knows how to appease precious gemstones wouldn't notice.

When Sampo was younger he had a more positive relationship with Aha, being unaware of the reality he was facing at that time he was much more willing to fully follow through with stage directions. The older he has gone and the more he follows IX the less control Aha activity has over Sampo.

I don't care, this might as well go for Sampo regardless but he can pull flowers; particularly roses, from thin air. It's his calling card regardless of the performance. Much like Aha where you always hear the faint sound of bells and laughter you have roses and rose petals for Sampo if not the smell of fresh roses. Pretty boy likes his roses damnit and you'll never pry this from my hands even if I'm unable to express it.
