don’t get me wrong, i looove Robin McKinley’s “Beauty” and “Rose Daughter” and have loved them forever, but I still haven’t quite found THE BatB story that resonates 20000%.

and i’ve read quite a few

i like the traditional elements of “Beauty” but the story was YA and felt a bit flat, as it was just a quick retelling of the fairy tale (also that Disney used quite a bit in their animated movie js).  

“Rose Daughter” - I loved Beauty in this, i loved her character, I loved Beast, but the whole evil sorcerer cursed him and their was a greenwitch sorceress that tried circumventing the curse, and oh yeah, her simulacrum daughter was Beauty’s mother.  And we’re going to do half the story about that but not really develop BatB’s romance that much because you know this already -  was meh to me.  Also i both like and hate Beauty’s sister’s in this version.  The author tried to flesh the sisters out more and give them flaws and personalities but still be a loving family to Beauty, but I didn’t like the whole “EVERYONE IS NAMED AFTER THEIR PERSONALITY TRAITS” in this version  (ex:  Lionheart, Mr. Whitehands, Mr. Horsewise).  Again half the book concentrates on the curse and the greenwitch’s backstory.

I’ve read “Valiant”  by Holly Black, “Beast”  by Donna Jo Napoli, “A Court of Thorns and Roses” by Sarah J Maas, a whole bunch of paranormal romance books, but none has ever become THE book : /

i met someone w similar enough training philosophies horsewise that they might let me come ride their horses w them because "well i have 2 and i cant ride them both at the same time"
