Haven't felt much inspiration or drive to draw lately, but I did a little (and I mean LITTLE) redesign of Princess Celestia. I find that I draw better poses and figures when I draw tiny, I was gonna upscale the og sketch and then do the lineart & everything, but I just wanted to jump right into the coloring lol. I love sunset color palettes, they're just so pretty! 🥺
I was also experimenting with how I draw horses, specifically their legs. I want them to be more dainty and elegant, which is what I went for here. Horses are fun to draw once you understand how their body works!

now that my horse finally lives minutes away again the temptation to go bother him is so strong. I can't ride him yet because he needs time to settle in. I'd just be out there sitting on a bucket watching him eat grass like a weirdo. Might do that later.

My Mom: You should watch some horse movies Me: Oh, no. Animal movies always end badly. My Mom: that's not true Me: Yes, it is. The animal always dies. I cry my eyes out. My Mom: They don't all do that anymore. Me: [watches horse show] Me: [cries inconsolably over a horse that had died in an accident in the past and is only mentioned] Me: [texting] Watched horse show. Cried. From now on, documentaries only!
Anyway, if you know of any happy horse documentaries where no horse dies, drop the title and link in the comments.

Cringe-y real-life horse girl crap under the cut… 🐎
Here, have some pictures of me when I attended a two-week summer horse camp at a local rescue ranch when I was 14:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That was twenty years ago, goddamn. x___x This was the first time I'd ever ridden western-style, but I'd had lessons in English riding for a couple years between the ages of 6 and 10. (Hence me wearing my sister's old English-style riding boots to this mini-event, hahaha.) The horse was a super stubborn arabian named Giselle. We made a pretty good team by the end of those two weeks, though! I won the barrel racing and keyhole events with her. :D
I had to stop taking horseback riding lessons because my parents couldn't afford them anymore. My family at one point managed to find a house to rent on a farmer's land when I was 9-10 y.o., and there was a paddock to keep a horse in, so we were able to rescue a thoroughbred for my sister. His name was Gully (short for his racing name, which was Gull Wing), and my sister had to rehabilitate him and teach him how to be ridden properly; he was so green, but such a wonderful horse. My sister was so in love with him.
We owned Gully for a little over a year before my parents divorced and we had to sell him and move away from the farm. We ended up moving to a trailer park and this horse camp was one of only two horse-related thing I was able to do in my teens; it was a gift from my mum, who scrimped and saved to afford it for me. The other thing was work experience at the end of high school, where I worked at a local farm for a couple weeks mucking out stables and paddocks in the dead of winter. X)
Needless to say, my sister and I were horse-mad growing up. We collected Grand Champions and Breyer Horses (whenever we had the pocket money to spend!), as well as subscribed to so many horse magazines. My sister read all of the Pony Club books. We used to quiz each other on horse breeds from a breed encyclopedia we had. We were such nerds, haha!
I was so privileged to even have this much experience with horses, and I am so aware of that. They are such amazing creatures, with so much personality and life, and I wish I could in some way have them in my life again (I live in the city now and far away from any stables— and my health isn't good enough for me to be able to ride or look after horses anymore). I've had to settle for drawing them, instead. ^^
Speaking of, I made a booklet of tips on how to draw horses that you can purchase here for $1:
In case you were interested! <3

Ok bearing in mind that when my boss cut my pay by like 40% this year I was like ‘so none of the work I did like bringing in horses at 2am in sudden deadly storms ever mattered?’ And she was like ‘no lol get f*cked, also I’m cutting your hours’
4pm yesterday
Me: hey, one boarder who babys her horse but doesn’t like him to have a blanket on unless it’s below freezing, can I please blanket your horse since there’s a 14% chance of rain. Just in case, so he’ll be warm.
Her: no, it’s not cold enough. If there’s a chance for rain just bring all the horses in.
Me: we’re short staffed, the boss has been after us for using too much shavings, half the remaining staff are sick (spent 3 hours at urgent care with one of them today after she smacked herself in the head with an ice pick), I’m not bringing all the horses in for a 14% chance when it’s above freezing. Everyone else will have a blanket on. Do you want me to bring your horse in?
Her: no leave him out with no blanket.
2am, today
Her: I can’t believe you have calls silenced!? I’ve called 9 times! It’s cold raining!
Me: huh, that’s weird. It notified me as soon as you texted twice. Anyway, I’ll go check on him.
Every other coworker: hey she called us in a panic so now we’re all texting and calling you too.
Me: great. Wonderful.
Most annoying coworker (who lives an hour away and is sick): are you bringing all the horses in?!
Me: probably not. I’ll handle it. Go back to sleep.
I go outside. It’s misty. Horses don’t really seem bothered. Nobody is shivering despite being slightly damp around their blankets. I bring in that one horse and give a few others some extra hay to settle them down.
Most annoying coworker: are you sure?!?!
Me: yeah, they’ll live.
Most annoying coworker: Really sounds like you should bring them all in.
Me: no, and lay off telling me how to do my job at 2am. I told you I had this. If you want to do it for the glory—knock yourself out.
Most annoying coworker (who has always tattled on me to the boss for the dumbest nonsense): bro no need to catch an attitude.
No, no need to put up with this shit.
ffs people. I’m probably gonna catch hell about it all day tomorrow. God forbid perfectly healthy horses get slightly damp or even shiver a bit. All the old or ill ones were already in regardless.
Can’t get out of here soon enough. Can’t even go back to sleep now because the gutters are dripping and it’s psyching me out. Should’ve just brought them all in and let that annoying coworker have twice the stalls to clean. Except likely as not she’d call in sick and guess who’d end up having to do all the work. Yeah. She didn’t even do half the work she was supposed to yesterday, and I had to cover for ice concussion girl and try to catch everything up. Should’ve said no when the boss asked me to do that too. What’s she gonna do? Never buy me another pizza?

A temporary cover to help keep the snow and rain off. There are plans for connecting the two buildings with a hay loft next year.
This barn will get some additional rooms at the back in the coming years as well.
