NIGHT SHIFT

(Hoshi Fanfic)

Her lids were getting heavier, but her gaze was going back and forth to the patient that she was supposedly looking after. It's not that she didn't want to do this job, it's just that the silence bores her.

Since they have fewer clients, the hospital had to lay off some employees, and luckily (unluckily) she was chosen to stay. But the downside is that she had to be on her own during night shifts.

She was actually an introvert, but right now she craves for an interesting conversation. One she wouldn't get from a confused, aphasic patient. But she didn't want to complain, afterall, she was there to work.

But then she just had to finish everything by 2am unintentionally, which left her with 6 hours time to kill, since the patient was stable.

She searched for her friends who might be awake at this hour, but there was none (obviously). Feeling daring, she tried to search for an app where she could chat someone. She really just wanted to talk to anyone, even though she knew what mostly happens in random chats, but of course she wouldn't cross that line.

First, she had to pick the gender she's interested in, then she had to click her age. Certainly, this is some dating modus that she's not looking for, but then again, she was bored. She picked Watashi wa Hana as her nickname, just because.

Most private chats would start with the usual "Hi" and "Hello", then random people with weird nicknames, would ask what country she's from. She contemplated for a bit whether to be honest, but she realized that lying would kinda be stupid.

To filter the chatboxes that kept appearing, she started the conversation with, "I'm kinda curious, why did you join this app?" As predicted, most would be so straight forward and would ask if she could send pics or do some sexy stuffs. Those private chats would automatically be deleted, she's not here for this.

TigerEyes would like to chat with you. She read. Unlike the others, he didn't start with the usual intro.

TigerEyes: r u Japanese?

WatashiWaHana: No, just got it from the lyrics of my favorite song

TigerEyes: Which is?

She immediately got that spark igniting within her, the same she got whenever she speaks to someone about her favorite music or other interests. She felt the need to promote but realized that she needed to tone it down.

WatashiWaHana: Some Japanese song. I think the title is Fallin' Flower. Sounds so catchy.

TigerEyes: Maybe I'll check it out. I'm boooooooored

That caught her attention, maybe he's just like her.

WatashiwaHana: Me too. Why did you join this app? I'm curious

TigerEyes: Hmm to have fun ofc. (Another predictable answer, she thought) Why, do you have anything else in mind?

Why does that sound so. . .provocative. Or was it just her imaginations?

WatashiwaHana:I like conversations, I just wanted someone to talk to. I'm bored

TigerEyes: okaaay, let's start a conversation then. What are your interests?

Hmmm nice, at least someone with sense, she said to herself. Maybe he'd be worth talking to.

WatashiwaHana: I like travelling, dancing, music. How 'bout u?

TigerEyes: I like dancing too, I sometimes do choreographies 😉

WH: That's impressive, you must be so creative.

TigerEyes: Yes I am, I could be sooo creative, I could fulfill your fantasies.

That was disappointing. She huffed.

She tapped her phone, while deciding whether to reply or not. It was the longest convo she had here so far, it seems like a waste to delete this chatbox.

TigerEyes: What are your fantasies?

She decided to be playful.

WH: I have lots of fantasies. In what exactly?

TigerEyes: Hmmm..What do you expect from this conversation?

He seems like a much more deeper person than she expected, but she get it that he's trying to be like everyone else who uses this app.

WH: I really just wanted to converse with someone, but I get what most people wanted to gain from this.

Most people? That didn't sound right for him, he didn't like to be like everyone else. But he gets why she thinks that way. He wanted to blame it to this stupid app, while denying his true intentions from awhile ago.

WH: It's cliche, really

TigerEyes: Fun

WH: Am I boring you already? (She laughed nervously, it's just how introverts are, she expected this already) Anyways nice chatting with you

She almost turned off her phone, when

TigerEyes: Wait. Let's make this interesting then

WH: Depends on your idea of interesting

TigerEyes: Oh no, depends on yours. What do you want? You told me you want  conversations. So let's do that 😁

WH: Do you have any acquaintances here?

TE: I'm actually new here. Honestly I had a girlfriend but we broke up. I kinda miss her especially when I needed a company

WH: Oh that sucks. Do you want to tell me about it? They say that talking 'bout it helps you move on

TE:********

WH: You don't want to? That's okay.

She's starting to like this convo. Opening up is something that truly starts real conversations, and you rarely get that from strangers especially on online dating chat apps.

TE: How about you? Do you have some fantasies? How he should be? How he should treat you?

WH: I actually don't have anyone. Maybe that's why I donloaded this app 'coz I want someone to talk to. Maybe that's my fantasy. Chilling at the house with someone special, without fearing of not being able to go home.

TE: Don't regret. I still believe that best things are waiting for us. I'm willing to listen, just be yourself and tell me things. Like...umm ...what's your ideal date? If ever you meet that someone

WH: I want something cozy. Like lots of cuddles, coffee, movies and conversations, what's yours?

TE: I would like to take her to a romantic dinner date. Enjoy a sip of wine. Dance while holding her close and looking into her eyes.

WH: Sounds romantic. Kinda reminds me of romcom movies

TE: Thanks for the compliment.

WH: Have you done that with someone?

He didn't want to remember but it's too hard to forget.

TE: Yes. I did it with her before. I like taking her on surprised trips. She likes natural and serene places.

WH: Give me a recommendation where to go then

TE: Why? I thought you're single 😂

WH: Can't I go there alone? I told you I like travelling.

TE: Maybe you'd like to travel with me then. I could be your tour guide.

WH: Hmmmmm

TE: What? I don't bite! I have tiger eyes, but believe me I'm actually a hamster at heart

That made her chuckle. This guy seems so cute. It made her wonder why his ex- girlfriend broke up with him. He seems nice.

WH: I'd like that.

Now she didn't see that coming. Never had she ever thought that being bored during night shift would lead to meeting someone. Now she just have to wait 'til the pandemic is over to finally have that trip with her newfound friend.

Tribal - Chapter 3

You woke up to someone gently probing your mind telepathically. Having been raised by a telepath, you groaned mentally at her and tried to shrug the probe off. You were so tired. "You've been through a lot, _____-ah. Come home and get some food," your mother's soft mental voice said. With an audible sigh you rubbed your eyes and reached your arms out to stretch, but quickly bumped into a warm mass behind you. Your eyes flew open at the contact and you scrambled away from whomever or whatever was behind you, feeling incredibly disoriented.

A black panther blinked bleary blue eyes at you before settling into a long stretch. As the feline straightened into a standing position, it twisted into the form of a very groggy blue haired man. Seeing the familiar angular eyes and bouncy blue hair, the events of the past 24 hours came crashing back and you glanced around, taking in the hollow as the remnants of the day's light streamed in sleepily.

"I see you managed to change back," Hoshi commented, his voice still heavy with sleep. "Didn't think you'd be able to do that quite yet," he joked, his eyes squinting into his signature 10:10 eye smile as he flashed a bright smile.

"I think it happened as I slept..." you replied, more than slightly confused. "Ah. That makes much more sense," he teased, snickering softly, only laughing harder at the glare you shot him. Yawning, he reached back and muffed up his hair lazily. "I suppose we better head back," he said, his voice drifting off as he blushed and looked at the ground.

"What?" You asked, finding yourself smiling at how cute he looked with his hair all puffed up and his mouth curved in that cute little smile of his. He was still smiling when he looked back up at you, "You just look funny, that's all." You mouth dropped open as your hands flew to your hair, finding it a tangled mess with a few pine needles sticking out. At your reaction, Hoshi's eyes squeezed into tighter crescents as he laughed. Your horror melted into a fit of giggles as you pictured how funny you must look.

Stepping over to you, Hoshi helped you detangle your hair as best as two sets of hands could without a brush. Between a few more fits of laughter, you both managed to make you look "reasonable," as Hoshi called it, throwing you a quick wink followed by another bark of laughter.

"Ah!" He exclaimed suddenly when you two were done. Clapping his hands together, he looked at you meaningfully and said, "You've got to change into your true form so that we can get back before nightfall." Your eyes widened at the realization. You didn't even know where exactly this was. You'd never come this far before on two legs.

As your mind frantically tried to figure out how to turn back into your panther form, you missed the mischievous glint in Hoshi's eyes. "_____-ah," he said suddenly, breaking you out of your throughs. "Why don't you try acting like a panther? I've heard that that can help with transition. Maybe you can try walking around on all fours?" Your eyes lit up with the challenge and you completely missed the snicker that he muffled with his hand.

Getting down on your knees, you began furiously trying to will yourself into a panther as you shuffled around like an oversized baby. You heard Hoshi let out a guffaw behind you and you whipped around to see him crouched down holding his stomach as he finally failed to stifle his laughs. "Hoshi!!" You shouted, realizing that you'd been fooled. You narrowed your eyes and pounced on him. What you didn't realize is the moment you left the ground, you twisted into your panther form, easily knocking Hoshi over and landing on your massive black paws. Now you had him caged beneath you, your long black tail whipping back in forth angrily, your snarling face inches from his. But as you glared at him with flaming purple eyes, his face only lit up more when he saw your feline features.

"Success!" He yelled, causing you to pause in confusion. In the split second you let your guard down, Hoshi twisted into a much larger panther beneath you, earning himself a surprised yowl as you lost your balance. Easily tossing you to the side, with his larger paws, he smoothly slipped into a crouch, butt in the air as he waved his tail playfully. Shaking your head, you barely had time to gather yourself before he pounced on you. You let out another surprised squeak as his mass hit you. Letting out feline shrieks of joy, the two of you rolled around in the hollow, reveling in your feline forms.

Having managed to pin you for the 5th time, Hoshi stepped off, waving his tail victoriously. Even as a panther he wrinkled his eyes in a feline smile. "Better head back now, _____," he said, gesturing with his head in the general direction of the village. Rolling to your paws, you shook yourself off and trotted off after him. As you drew next to him, he picked up the pace until you both were loping along with ease. Glancing at him out of the corner of your eye, you noticed just how powerful and majestic he looked, ears back, sharp blue eyes ahead. Smiling to yourself, you sped ahead of him, receiving an annoyed yowl in response.

Not after long, the two of you reached the outskirts of the village. Slowing to a walk, Hoshi easily twisted back into his human form, smiling at the frustrated snarl on your face. "Think really hard about walking and how it feels like to walk," he instructed, more seriously this time. After walking in circles a couple times -and having your concentration broken more than a few times by Hoshi releasing bursts of laughter at the way your face was twisted in thought- you managed to finally transform. Smiling triumphantly at your now opposable thumbs and claw-less toes you beamed at Hoshi. Your smile quickly faded though as your head began to spin. Seeing this, Hoshi quickly slipped himself under one of your arms, holding you up as you regained control on your body.

"You okay?" Hoshi asked, his concerned eyes scanning your face. "The first few transitions are very physically and mentally exhausting," he explained as he continued to let you lean on him. Blinking, you managed to focus your eyes on his, reassuring him with a small smile that you were okay. Something about his proximity was so comforting. You'd known Hoshi for a good portion of your life and had always been fairly close to him, but something about this was different. The mate bond was deepening and you were beginning to feel it, but for the moment, it just felt like a new level of companionship.

Pulling away from him with a smile of thanks, you headed towards your house. Once you reached the door, you turned to find Hoshi a few steps behind, his discomfort clearly showing in the way his lips were pressed tightly together and his hands were playing nervously with the bottom of his shirt. The image of Kara's body lying outside this very door sent a shiver down your spine. Taking a breath you beckoned him towards the door. "Hiding from bad memories has never made them go away," you whispered as he hesitantly drew nearer. Gently touching his arm, you admitted in a quiet voice, strained with emotion: "I still remember too."

Finally looking away from the door and into your eyes, he softened. Your hazel eyes were full of the same emotion he felt tightening his chest, but there was also a warmth. Taking a shaky breath, his eyes crinkled in a soft smile. "I've missed your mother's cooking," he said lightly before pushing the door open. There was much to be discussed, but first, there was much to be eaten.

Finally got to throw in some fluffy Hoshi~ yaayyy~ he’s so cute when he’s being silly (which is all the time in real life haha). I think I’ve pretty much got the rest planned out. Hopefully I can actually finish this one!! Thank you for reading, if you got this far~ ^-^
