Characters #4:

Hugh Hammer

The illegitimate son of Saera Targaryen. Has grown tired of how common people suffer in times of war & unrest. Believes he can improve things by taking down the ruling class. Rider of Vermithor, a massive dragon with bronze scales, orange eyes, & black horns.

Alyn of Hull

The illegitimate son of Corlys Velaryon & brother to Addam of Hull. Is livid he & his brother were never acknowledged by their sire. Desires what he views as retribution for the ridicule & hardship he suffered during his childhood. Rider of the Grey Ghost, a wild he-dragon with grey-white scales.

Ulf the White

The illegitimate son of some unidentified Targaryen parent or grandparent. Claims to be the illegitimate son of King Viserys & Prince Daemon's father Baelon. Is a drunkard who only wants to prove his Valyrian heritage so he can live a life of luxury. Rider of the late Laena's dragon Silverwing, a female with silver scales.

Silver Denys

The illegitimate son of some unidentified Targaryen parent or grandparent. Wants a better life where he doesn't have to fight or struggle endlessly to survive. Rider of Sheepstealer, a male with reddish brown scales.

Addam of Hull

The illegitimate son of Corlys Velaryon & the brother to Alyn of Hull. Determined to show the world he's more than just a nameless face in the crowd. Rider of the dragon Seasmoke, a male with silver-gray scales & light green eyes.

I love that Vermithor was like “RAWR You must impress me with your bravery or I will BURN AND EAT you” and Silverwing was like “good morning pathetic looking man you will do”

one of my favorite things about hotd is how we get exposed to the differences in the dragons' personalities. one great way to see this is through how each dragon forms a bond with a new rider. when aemond claimed vhagar, she bucked around like a bull and tried to throw him off to make him prove his worth by staying in the saddle. when seasmoke claimed addam, he hunted addam down and basically claimed addam himself. when hugh claimed vermithor, he stood up to him and roared in his face. and when silverwing claimed ulf, she headbutted and sniffed him before deciding to take him for a joyride. each has such a distinct personality and you can see a clear dichotomy between dragons pursuing their riders and riders pursuing their dragons.

The way we’ve gotten

Seasmoke, picking his own rider mostly unprompted and literally chasing him around and cornering him.

Vermithor, roasting everyone who dares to try it except a man brave enough to defy Vermithor’s fury to save another; a man who roars back.

Silverwing watching a lost and terrified man stumble into her lair and quietly accept his death; she bends the neck because he bent the knee.

Something something But who can presume to know the heart of a dragon?

Love how in order to claim Vermithor, you have to be all badass in the face of fiery death, wheras for Silverwing you just need to be pathetic enough for her mama dragon instincts to kick in and take you under her wing

jaehaerys was a piece of shit to saera and drove her away so much that she fled to another continent and now her son is riding his dragon i just-

people will always blame alicent and rhaenyra or even daemon for sparking the start of the civil war but at the end of the day it will always come back to viserys and his cowardly decisions. as soon as he allowed himself to be bullied to remarry and to have more kids again, he officially sewed the seeds together for future conflict after his death no matter who he married. like if he had married laena instead of alicent and had sons with her, would the outcome have been so different? do you think rhaenys and corlys would have stood on the sidelines and watched their grandson get passed over? especially after rhaenyra had illegitimate sons that weren't even laenors? that they wouldn't have petitioned their own dance? the snake will always eat its own tail for power, and viserys doomed rhaenyra to her death with his own
