The Hôtel Camondo, home to one of the finest collections of 18th century French decorative art in the world. The gilded rooms are adorned with canvases by the likes of François-Hubert Drouais and Élisabeth Vigée Lebrun. The museum teems with further Ancien Régime treasures, from Riesner and Oeben cabinets, Beauvais and Aubusson tapestries, Savonnerie carpets from the Grande Galerie in the Louvre, to fine pieces of resplendent Sévres porcelain. No amount of beauty, however, can make one forget the story of the great family that once lived inside this glittering palace. This wonderful book written in fictional letters to Moïse de Camondo regarding the history of his extraordinary house. Nissim de Camondo is my favourite place to go in Paris. Its history is touching and the interiors well, spectacular. But more importantly, it's the atmosphere of the house that is so compelling. You hear the stories as you walk through each room. Dans la série "je m'fais pas iech", l'hôtel particulier (XVIIIe) de François Lazare Babey, né en 1740 à Orgelet, décédé en 1815. Babey était lieutenant général du bailliage d'Orgelet à l'époque de la révolution. Il devint, en 1793, membre du comité de salut public créé à Lons-le-Saulnier, et quitta la France en 1793, suite à la révolution du 31 mai. Rentré dans ses foyers après la mort de Robespierre, il devint membre du collège électoral du Jura puis membre du conseil général, puis maire d'Orgelet. Sous l’Ancien Régime, le terme de « bailliage » désignait à la fois une entité territoriale (circonscription administrative, financière et judiciaire) et la charge d'officier de bailli qui y était liée. Babey était le frère du conventionnel Pierre-Marie-Athanase Babey, avocat du roi puis député aux états généraux, qui se distingua dans les assemblées politiques par des éclats de voix tonitruante. L'hôtel Babey fut ensuite très longtemps occupé par le Trésor public. Aujourd'hui, il semble être habité par des particuliers.
