Jinu:

We know how dorky this man is, so when he first met Y/n during a concert of hers trying to secure the honmoon, he noticed the way her voice filled his mind, drowning out the voices he so desperately wanted to disappear. 

What he wasn’t expecting was to lock eyes with her. Watching her lips pull into a smile as she moved closer to him.

Or the way her hand seemed to reach out towards him, drawing him closer. The moment he touched her hand, her fingers moved up his arm and towards his chin.

She held his face in her palm as she sang, her eyes going from that cute doe look to the look of a siren. 

His face went bright red when she backed away and winked at him. He had to run away or he would have steam coming out of his ears from how much he was blushing. 

When Jinu saw her again, she was standing in front of a pop mart, dressed in black sweats, and a grey hoodie. 

Walking over to her, making sure he would combust from being hopelessly in love with her, he gently tapped her on the shoulder. 

“Want to go in with me?” He asked, staring into the store. 

“Are you sure you are ok being spotted in a store like this?” She asked. 

Jinu shrugged and finally looked at her. His eyes widened at how even without makeup and all the lights, she was still beautiful.

After the time spent in the pop mart, Jinu and Y/n spent the rest of the day together.

When the day ended and Jinu walked her home, she turned around and took his hands in hers, leaned forward, and pressed a simple kiss to his lips. His eyes widened before he leaned into the kiss, a smile on his face.

Jinu totally asked her out after the concert. He’s too cute.

Abby Saja:

Abs and you have been dating since the moment he and the others of Saja Boys became a group. 

Yes he knew you were a human but something about your ability to love him even as a demon made his “heart” swell. 

He ignored every order from that point on. His arms were always wrapped around your waist when you were visiting his group, showing you off at concerts and signings. 

What he didn’t expect was for you to be a solo idol. The first time he heard your voice signing, he was hypnotized. 

He went to a concert of yours, (forced the rest of Saja Boys to go along too) of course he was in his human form but when you knelt in front of him, your eyes hooding to give off a siren look, he knew he was done for. 

Your flirty smirk appeared on your lips as your fingers brushed under his chin (One of his favorite things you do) and his body felt light. 

You get extremely flirty when on stage he notes when you start dancing in a way that he has never seen you dance before. 

On a rather hot summer day, you were practically tugging his arm and begging him to go to a pop mart with you, for what reason, he didn’t know. 

When he gets to the mart after breaking his resolve (He can never say no to you) he is immediately blinking confused. 

“What is this place?” He would ask, turning to you for an explanation but you are already staring at a little doll with stars in your eyes and the brightest smile on your lips.

You and Abs left the mart with at least 5 bags each.

Mystery Saja:

You are the only person that is allowed to see his face with his hair up. That’s how special you are to this man. 

In return, you told him everything about yourself, your fears, insecurities, your pain. If he could, he would erase everything that hurt you. 

The day the rest of Saja Boys were out scouting the different groups to see how they could destroy them, Mystery felt his heart sink to the pit of his stomach when he saw you on the stage.

No one else around you, but your eyes held the power of three people to complete the golden honmoon. You looked absolutely stunning in his eyes. 

The moment you began singing, everything around him vanished. The voices in his head, the chatter of fans, the rest of Saja Boys. It was just you and him. 

Your personality on stage was a 180 flip from what he gets in everyday life. Your flirty on stage, your doe eyes shifting to a hypnotizing siren as you sing with the power of gods. 

He slowly makes his way towards the stage, his body moving on its own. Jinu and the others watch with wide eyes as you dip your hand towards him, holding his face with such care.

Days after that concert, Mystery is watching your every move. Your morning routine, the way you talk around him and the rest of Saja Boys. He wants to see if that personality from your concert slips out but it never does. 

“Why can’t you act all flirty like you did at the concert?” he suddenly asked everyone in the room. 

You turned to him and your doe eyes morph to the siren he saw that night. He swallowed as you moved towards him. 

Standing in front of him, you cup his jaw, a smirk appears just as fast as it disappears and your doe eyes are back. 

He never asked for your flirty nature again, he almost passed out from how long he held his breath.

When you took him to a pop mart, he understood why you hid that flirty siren-like personality when off stage. 

You and Mystery spent the day in the mart for hours before Saja Boys had to come and drag the two of you out of the store.

Romance Saja:

Romance was always labeled the “PlayBoy” that he didn’t take love seriously. Granted, it would have been true considering that he was a demon but when he started dating you, everything changed. 

The voices that lined his head disappeared. He felt like his life was finally his thanks to you. 

Jinu had said that they were going to a concert in a few days for a soloist that just popped up after Huntr/x took a hiatus for a bit and wanted to check it out. 

Thinking nothing of it, Romance shot you a text saying he was going to a concert and that he would be back late. 

The day of the concert, Romance and the others got there extremely early so they could be in the front row to see who the singer was. 

Their jaws dropped to the floor when they saw you, your once soft doe-like eyes narrowed like a siren, your voice booming around them. 

You danced like you had been trained by a dance god. Romance could only stare at the way your hips swayed, the way your voice sounded so good in his ears as you sang. 

Your eyes drifted them, your eyes becoming more of a siren as you walked towards the edge of the stage, your hand dropping towards Romance, your finger mentioning for him to come close. 

He did, not sure what came over him. He felt your hand press against his chest, your fingers dance over his throat before you gently but firmly grabbed his face pulling him even closer. 

He was surprised he didn’t actually faint right then and there. In his mind, that was the hottest thing you could have done to him. 

When you and Romance were walking around town a few days after the concert, he took you to a pop mart and watched your face light up. He smiled softly and followed you around like a puppy and got you whatever you wanted, with the promise that you will do the same thing you did at the concert to him more.

You were a mess when he asked for you to do that again, but you did, randomly, when he least expected it and as a result, you had to call the rest of Saja Boys to your house to help you get your passed out boyfriend on his bed so he didn’t wake up in pain.

You vowed to never do that again when he least expects it.

Baby Saja:

He was the least likely to get in a relationship but when he pushes open the door to Saja Boy’s dorm and introduces you as his girlfriend, everything goes into chaos. 

Your favorite spot to lay your head is on his chest. Baby doesn’t mind it in the least, in fact, he will just place his hand on your head and pull you towards his chest when he wants to feel your weight on his chest. 

Sneaking into a concert wasn’t ideal for them but they needed to figure out who this new solo artist was and why she was so strong when it came to getting the honmoon up without two other people.

Baby’s jaw dropped when he saw you on that stage, your doe eyes he fell in love with, narrowed to that of a siren ready to steal a soul. He noticed the theme of your song happened to deal with larger canines and that made him smile. 

You smiled, showing off the custom-made fangs and his heart thudded against his ribcage. 

Noticing him in the crowd, you smiled dangerously and motioned for him and the rest of his group forward. 

She pointed to 5 empty seats and returned to her performance, the honmoon glowing the brightest gold they have ever seen. 

Baby was entranced. He watched as your body swayed and moved to the beat of the music. How you seemed to be in your element as you danced. Your eyes holding such a flirty but gorgeous look in them when you looked at him. 

The ended with everyone, including Saja Boys screaming your name, tears falling down baby’s face as he watched you blow him a kiss before disappearing off stage. 

A few days after that concert, Baby always begged to see your siren eyes. Saying that he loved everything about them because they were a part of you. 

You agreed as long as he went with you to a pop mart. You both got what you wanted. 

He took you to the pop mart and bought you whatever you wanted, whether it was big or something small. 

You showed off your siren eyes more and watched as Baby would go absolutely bright red if you directed those siren eyes towards him when angry with him.

You both would sit and listen to each other's songs, don’t even get me started. When his group is on hiatus for a bit, he has your songs blasting through his speakers in his room. 

He would sing along to them or start rapping the parts that you rap.

He loves that you rap, just like he does. 

You caught him one time dancing to a song that was tamer than the others and couldn’t help but take a picture of him. It's your lock and home screen now.

Baby has you smiling with a butterfly that landing on your nose while lying in the grass as his home screen and lock screen. He loves you so much it's not even funny.

There's a real possibility we get a Will Byers centric love triangle in ST5

We know the Duffers love a good love triangle.

So much so, they've given us one (or several) in every season of Stranger Things thus far—and I don’t think they’ll break that streak in Season 5.

One thing I’ve noticed is that while some love triangles stretch across multiple seasons (like Steve/Nancy/Jonathan), the writers also introduce at least one new triangle each season.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

S1: Steve / Nancy / Jonathan S2: Steve / Nancy / Jonathan + Joyce / Hopper / Bob + Lucas / Dustin / Max S3: Robin / Steve / Tammy + Joyce / Hopper / Alexei + Joyce / Hopper / Mr Clarke S4: Steve / Nancy / Jonathan + Mike / El / Will + Robin / Vickie / Vickie's ex-boyfriend S5: Steve / Nancy / Jonathan (likely resolved) + Mike / El / Will (will come to a head) + ???

Sometimes they’re played straight, but the writers also love to openly mock the love triangle trope, too—especially in Season 3:

For example, Hopper gets irrationally jealous over Joyce talking to Mr Clarke and even Alexei—prompting Joyce’s sarcastic line about how every man she talks to must be her boyfriend. And of course, there's Steve wrongly assuming Robin has a crush on him, then confessing to her, only to find out she actually liked Tammy Thompson.

Basically, there’s no one way the writers use this trope. They clearly enjoy it—but more importantly, they enjoy subverting it.

So, call me delusional but I think it's likely that we could be getting another Will Byers love triangle in Season 5:

He's the main character of the season and his arc will (partially), revolve around his "coming of age" and acceptance of his sexuality, after all.

Will has consistently been portrayed as someone who is considered attractive or desirable in-universe. In every season except Season 3, a girl shows interest in him despite his nerdiness and perceived queerness.

And now, it looks like the Duffer Brothers are visually rebranding him as a romantic lead:

His new hair and costume design feels both heroic and boyish. The flannel—once a staple of his wardrobe and a symbol of his innocence—is slowly being phased out, suggesting a gradual loss of that innocence. However, he’s still buttoned up. That tells me Will is stepping into his manhood (and by extension, his sexuality), but he's still holding something back. He's going to need to be pushed out of his comfort zone; both physically and emotionally.

Even narratively, there are established links which hint at a possible non-Mike love interest:

When we look back at Will’s comment about not falling in love, we often read it as foreshadowing his feelings for Mike—or hinting that he already is in love with him. But I also interpret it as something more: Will doesn’t believe he will ever inspire love (or romantic attraction). He sees himself as undesirable.

Think about the four original members of the Party. Yes, they’re all considered uncool nerds to some degree—yet three of them are affirmed through romantic connection: Lucas has Max. Dustin has Suzie. Mike has El. They each receive validation and the feeling of being wanted.

Will does not.

And yet, the writers have made a consistent effort to show us that Will is considered attractive—despite his belief that he isn’t, and despite the lack of romantic validation he receives. That creates a real disconnect. A kind of cognitive dissonance.

Having Will repeatedly receive attention from girls—only to reject them or appear disinterested—was an effective way to subtly hint at his queerness. But it’s happened so many times now, that there needs to be a payoff.

What is the long-term point of making the canonically gay kid, who already believes he’s undesirable, only receive interest from women?

Er, there isn’t one.

It makes sense, then, to give Will the opportunity to experience mutual same-sex attraction with someone who isn't Mike.

Because Will's arc about accepting his sexuality doesn't just have to culminate in the realization that Mike loves him too (as sweet as that is).

It should culminate with the knowledge that queerness is valid, that he is considered desirable and worthy of romantic interest, and that he isn't alone in experiencing queerness.

Additionally, as mentioned above, Will is already perceived as queer—he’s been bullied for it his entire life, despite never explicitly coming out. Hawkins is a small town where word travels fast. So if there is another young gay guy in town, chances are… they’ve already heard of “Zombie Boy” Will Byers.

He'd certainly be on their radar: he’s good-looking, he’s mysterious, and he’s still closeted, which means he’d likely be discreet.

And let’s not forget where Will was emotionally at the end of Season 4, especially regarding his feelings for Mike:

He’s starting from ground zero in Season 5. He has zero hope that Mike feels the same way, and he’s likely going to be making zero moves.

In fact, most Byler theorists agree—it makes sense that Mike will have to be the initiator in Season 5. Will is just too emotionally shut down to make the first move.

But… wait a minute.

If this season is supposed to be about Will coming into his own as a young gay man—about self-acceptance, confidence, and owning his identity—how does that make sense if Mike is the one initiating everything?!

Well… maybe Mike needs to make the first move when it comes to Byler. But that doesn’t mean Will has to stay passive the whole season.

It’s possible that Will could gain some much-needed confidence—maybe even a bit of romantic “practice”—by taking a more active role with someone else first.

Giving Will a (temporary) new love interest would also level-out the playing field between himself and Mike:

There's a real sense of karmic justice and ironic foreshadowing in Stranger Things.

Will's jealousy of Mike and El's relationship has been hinted at for two seasons now—and he even complained that Mike only called a couple times while El had a "book of letters" from him.

What’s interesting is that even after Mike takes accountability for their argument and they make up, that specific comment—about the phone calls and letters—is never addressed. It lingers.

That’s why I think we could see a similar conversation (or even a full-blown argument) between Mike and Will in Season 5. But this time, Will might be the one receiving phone calls or letters—from someone else.

And let’s not forget: it’s possible that the Byers are temporarily staying with the Wheelers in Season 5. If Will has a secret admirer, and he’s trying to keep it quiet, Mike is going to find out. (Excellent way to manufacture drama).

I also feel compelled to reiterate that the Duffers have shown time and time again: they can handle love triangles in many different ways.

They can play it for comedy. They can make it completely one-sided or delusional—like Mike projecting his own jealousy, much like Hopper did with Joyce in Season 3. A love triangle doesn’t have to be serious or long-lasting. It could span multiple episodes, or just one. It could involve a kiss—or zero physical contact at all.

And it doesn’t have to disrupt a Byler endgame—in fact, quite the opposite:

Seeing Will Byers receive romantic attention from another male character would serve as a reminder to the audience that Will is desirable and that he has options—this increases the stakes for Mike.

The GA will start wondering if this is really Will's endgame, and if he is truly ready to get over Mike. The GA, especially those who never shipped Byler before, may find themselves unexpectedly invested. They might even feel disappointed or sad at the thought of Will "moving on."

It also creates space for the writers to show us jealous Mike. Just as we've seen jealous, longing Will, a temporary love triangle allows us to explore Mike’s feelings through that same lens of romantic insecurity.

This brings the possibility of Byler to the forefront of the GA's subconscious. At the same time, it invites them to root for Mike, and therefore Byler.

RACING HEARTS ft. rafayel

part one - part two

your heart’s beating fast, too fast. what had you gotten yourself into? you mentally reprimand yourself, and pray you won’t become the next laughing stock that evening.

rafayel takes your hand, a mischievous smile plastered across his lips as he pulls you in.

you forgot to tell him you can’t dance, but he doesn’t seem to care. no one does in that setting, too occupied with their own partners.

the two of you swirl across the dance floor. his steps are feather-light, confident, so following his lead doesn’t take much of an effort from you.

“i didn’t know you could dance,” you say, smiling while ignoring the warmth pooling inside of you.

rafayel laughs, the most beautiful sound you’d heard in a while, his blue eyes with a hint of red amused at your comment. “i appreciate your praise, miss,” and then you feel yourself swaying backwards before he takes your hand and spins you out, the world blurring around you before you’re met again with his focused gaze and grinning lips. he’s totally showing off, you think; his actions seem to be asking you ‘how’s that’, with flushed rosy cheeks and glistening irises.

your breath catches in your throat as the dance comes to an end, the music slowly fading into the background.

rafayel lets go of you and bows just like any other gentleman would, a hand resting on his chest. you mimic his actions, forgetting momentarily what had happened just moments before the dance.

you’re mesmerised by his fascinating beauty. you notice the elegant clothing and soft lighting of the room make him appear otherworldly, unreachable to you.

in that moment, he is to you what the moon is to the earth - close, but far away at the same time.

too lost in thought, you don’t realise he’s shifted closer with such smoothness, placing his hand at the small of your back, leading you away from the dance floor, in a quieter corner.

the velvety sofa sinks under his weight, as he sighs while loosening his tie.

then it clicks to him.

he looks up at you, his heart rate quickens. shit.

he had involuntarily confessed to you. he was so sure of himself, back on the dance floor, but now he felt like a trembling puppy on the side of the road.

had he gone crazy?

rafayel groaned. now what?

you quietly sit next to him – not too close, nor too far, and think.

“so…”

“so…”

both of you look at each other, embarrassed, then he motions for you to speak first.

“uh what art piece at the auction are you interested in buying?”

“oh… oh yes, uh, no i’m not buying anything. one of my paintings is supposed to be sold, i’m here to see that everything goes smoothly,” he says, his tone clad in disappointment? you ignore this uninvited thought almost instantly. impossible.

that short exchange of words is the last one for the evening.

as the auction night comes to an end, you drive back rafayel, a goodnight, whispered against the chilly air, before you drive back home (run away).

rafayel, who’s now left alone, closes the door, his tired form met by the silent and lonely atmosphere of his dwelling.

he slowly slides down, his back at the door, feeling his legs giving out.

a frustrated scoff leaves his parted lips and he ruffles his locks, eyes lost into emptiness as he rethinks back at the dance, the most intimate moment he’d ever shared with you, well with anyone.

you looked so beautiful, even when your face was mostly hidden by the mask.

a fairy.

yes, under the dimmed lights of the ballroom, you shone the brightest among them all, even with your clumsy steps and unsure composure.

no denying it anymore. rafayel has unmistakably and unshakably fallen for you.

he has for a while, probably from the very first meeting, when he basically tricked you into becoming his bodyguard.

he thought it was just a whim, an arrangement he’d never care about too much.

but now? rafayel was at a loss. what to do? how to face you from now on?

should he keep pretending not to have any feelings for you, ignoring the scorching flames in his heart, and treat you as usual, or should he tell you and risk not being able to see you anymore?

the night doesn’t bring an answer to either of you, with its embracing darkness and silent moon. it watches, a bystander to your romantic troubles.

a week goes by, neither rafayel nor thomas contact you.

worry is swirling in your chest, but you can do nothing about it.

should i send a text? what do i even say?

you groan, throwing your phone on the bed and lying on your back exhausted.

just as you’re about to close your eyes, you hear a ping. you pick up your phone, too quickly.

meet me in 20, i’ll be downstairs.

rafayel

your eyeballs almost roll out of your sockets.

not bothering to even answer, you just spring up on your feet and start rummaging inside your closet.

you get dressed swiftly, and after another five minutes, you’re ready.

it’s probably just another job, you tell yourself, trying to tune down your excitement, but your heart is still pounding against your ribcage.

when rafayel gets to your apartment, you’re standing in front of your door, looking around as you try to ease the nervousness.

rafayel blushes. how could he not, mesmerising as you are.

he shakes his head then stops in front of you.

you notice he hasn’t taken his car today, dressed casually in black dress pants and a baby-blue shirt, while a canvas white bag hangs from his shoulder.

you bite down at your lip and walk closer, your steps light and slow.

“hello there,” he says, trying to keep his cool, pretending he’s unfazed.

“hi rafayel, what are we meeting for today?” you hope the question doesn’t sound too inquisitive.

“i wanted to take a walk, i need some… inspiration,” he reveals.

“oh, alright,” then off you go.

you reach a semi-empty park, blanketed in green leaves and numerous daffodils and primroses.

rafayel and you walk side by side on the cobblestone path, none of you uttering a single word.

he stops in his tracks and takes a thin checkered red and white blanket out of his bag, then lays it on the grass.

“sit down,” you do, not even daring to question his motives.

rafayel plops down next to you with a heavy sigh, resting as his hands support him from the back while his legs stretch forward.

“it is a day perfect for painting. i think i feel inspired to do something, after many days of block,” he utters, grabbing his sketchbook and a pencil.

a paper falls out, the breeze carrying it right on your lap.

you turn it over.

it’s a sketch of a girl. she is gorgeous, her skin looks flawless, her features soft and endearing.

she does look similar.

before you can make any further judgment, rafayel hurriedly takes the paper from your hand.

the girl looked quite similar to… you.

oh. nope, not a chance.

you gaze up at rafayel, noticing a faint blush painting his cheeks.

he doesn’t look at you, his eyes shy away from any sort of interaction.

“that’s a beautiful girl,” you say, breaking the silence.

rafayel doesn’t speak, the open sketchbook now forgotten on his legs, the pencil rolled down god knows where.

“she is,” rafayel admits, his voice now nothing more than a subtle whisper.

“can i ask… who she is?”

at that, rafayel looks up, a determined look in his passionate irises. “she is a very important woman to me,” he reveals.

you feel a weight dragging you down from the inside, like something unknown is clasped to your heart.

you try to mask your pain, “oh, i hope things go well between you two.” you get up and turn, your back now facing him. “i’ll sit on that bench over there, when you are done please call me,” you hear rustling but don’t turn around, starting to walk away from him in a hurry.

of course, it couldn’t be you in that picture.

oh, you had to be stupid to even remotely think you had a chance with him in the first place.

how embarrassing, you grit your teeth, your eyes burning as an uncomfortable knot holds your throat captive.

someone grabs your hand, stopping you from getting further.

“wait! [name]!” it’s rafayel.

“let me finish. please.”

you don’t turn around, but don’t resist his hold either. rafayel exhales heavily, nervousness dripping from every atom of his body, you don’t know that though.

“the woman you saw is indeed the most exquisite and elegant woman i’d ever seen… and she is also the one who dared to steal my breath away,” you feel he has shifted closer, his torso against your back, his heavy breathing clashing against your neck and ear.

“i tried to pretend you were indifferent to me, but…” your breath hitches as rafayel is at a loss of words, so he does the next best thing he thinks appropriate.

he gently turns you around, and lifts up your chin with a finger, before gently taking your hand to his cheek, caving in to your touch, his eyes closing like he’s in an endless bliss.

“i don't think you can ever be indifferent, not now, not in the future. i… i’ve fallen in love with you, [name].”

he mutters those last words like his life depends on it. you feel it too, his gaze holds a longing that falls short to none, his hold is tight but gentle on your fingers, his cheeks hot and flushed to the touch.

you slowly stand on your toes and leave a peck, right there where your hand lingered. the sort of peck grade school children give each other while playing pretend.

“i love you too. i have for... a while,” yes, denial wouldn't take you anywhere. none of you.

you stayed there for a while, none moving aw if afraid to break what you’d slowly and steadily built, lulled by the fast beating of your hearts and the softness of his eyes on you, the breeze slowly carrying his scent over to you as his hair locks flutter and brush against his face.

ah yes, the look of two fools in love.

Western Solstice/Season of the Worm Cult 1 Thoughts

TLDR: Liked the zone, liked the side quests, liked the basic narrative of the main quest but wasn't happy with its execution/dialogue.

So you know that thing I’ve brought up before about how the writing in this game tries to have its cake and eat it too? Where they want every zone story to be accessible to new players (and players who forgot anything or don’t pay attention to what’s going on) while still having reoccurring characters and plot threads? And how in the end it does a disservice to both; to the story as its own thing and as a continuation of things? Yeah, well I think I reached the end of my patience in this zone with that problem. I like the story itself, but am frustrated with its execution.

Major spoilers under the cut (also sorry this is so long)

Ok, first of all, things I liked:

Skordo my beloved <3. Always a king. His voice is back to normal. I cherish him.

I liked the zone itself! I was kinda expecting it to be small and empty, and while it was empty in the same way a lot of the more recent zones have been, I was pleasantly surprised by how big and like a real island it felt. Sunport and the Writhing Wall are such good set pieces and are gorgeous at sunrise and sunset, and I thought the sight lines everywhere were really good and helped it feel like an expansive place. I also liked the aesthetics of the tropical setting, the Argonians, and the mix of Argonian and Altmer architecture in Sunport. Just a cool place overall.

I also liked the worldbuilding and side quests! The history and culture and religion of the Corelanyans and Tide Born was very cool and imo a good addition to the world. I always love seeing cultures that are shaped by their environment and having the Tide Born be a hist-less Argonian culture whose way of life and beliefs have adapted to island living was super awesome. The history and development of both cultures just felt very natural to me (e.g. the Corelanyans going from necromancers who made deals with daedric princes to worshipping some of the more morally acceptable princes). I'm excited to hopefully learn more about the Stone Nest in Eastern Solstice since it sounds like they are Argonians still following the older ways with Xanmeers and the lot. The Nords felt kinda out of place, but were interesting enough to get a pass from me (and that quest with them was cute).

On the note of quests, I like the side quests! I had a good time with them! I particularly liked the Meridia temple one (always cool to get more Meridia lore and seeing characters have crises of faith imo), the ghost hunting one, and the Tide Born village one.

My feelings about the main quest are more mixed, but on the positive side I thought the narrative itself (ignoring execution) had enough compelling and interesting point to keep me invested in what was happening next or where things were going. I already like the set up of this storyline being split in two this year because it gives us opportunities to have hints and implication dropped now that we can muse over that will be resolved in the next part (e.g. what's going on with Vanus, who his ally is, etc.).

Also I fucking love angst. Thank you Gabrielle Benele for fulfilling my angsty needs. I am almost certainly not going to be satisfied with the pay off of it but for now I can revel in the heartbreak. Love you Gabby <3

EDIT: forgot to mention but I also liked the roleplaying options. I know some were dissatisfied with the them not having huge effect, but dialogue options that continue the story in the same direction but just elicit a different response from the other characters is pretty much exactly what I wanted.

On the note of dissatisfaction though...

On to my concerns and issues.

Just let me get it off my chest one more time. If I have to here "Gah-bri-elle" or "Gaudy-er" one more time I'm skinning myself. Ok, ok, it's out of my system now.

So I really think the main story here is the most egregious example of the issues I brought up at the beginning so far. This expansion was literally marketed as a sequel to the base game's main quest, yet the characters (almost all of whom are characters we got close to in the base game) barely acknowledge any relationship we may have with them, nor the information we'd likely already know. The Vestige is really at their most moronic here and it was getting to the point it frustrated me. The characters kept explaining things to me that happened in the base game and prologue like our character wasn't there, and the dialogue prompts for the Vestige that were need to progress conversations also assumed we had no idea what was going on. Like I've said before, this is a writing problem that permeates the whole game, but it felt really absurd here given the marketing for this story and the characters present. Especially because, I feel like if I was a new player, I would get, like, nothing out of this story. Outside of a few moments (namely Gabrielle's confession at Li-Xal or optional dialogue with Raz) we don't really get any moments to connect with the characters (and the intention with that Gabrielle moment is probably more to foreshadow her actions later than have a moment to get to know a character tbh, as much as I loved it). I feel like all of my investment in them is based on past adventures with them, so if I was a player who didn't remember them or hadn't met them before, all of the emotional beats at the end of this story would've had no weight I think. Acknowledging that, why is the dialogue written for those players first, and the players who are keeping up with these things are just given a few optional dialogue options at the ends of conversations sometimes? I've had random ass side characters from delve quests I didn't remember have more personal dialogue with the Vestige than these reoccurring characters we've literally been to hell with.

I don't know what kind of player this is meant to appeal to. is it new players? Is it players returning for the first time in awhile who forgot? Is it player who don't pay attention to the stories of quests? I don't know, and to be honest, I feel like they shouldn't be the ones being catered to primarily for a story like this one. Rather than starting out dialogue/conversations assuming we don't know what's going on and then throwing us bones later in the conversation, start out dialogue (if we've completed the requisite quests) assuming we know what's going on and then later throw a bone to the folks who don't. Just accept that people who are going into this without having played a single other story in this game or who mash through the dialogue are going to be confused. Maybe I'm being callous, but I feel like that's on them. I feel a little ridiculous feeling this way, but it was genuinely starting to piss me off in this story that it felt like the stuff I'd done in the past had no impact on what was happening there. No game, I know who Darien and Vanus are. Why are you assuming I don't? I know you can tell I've completed the quests with them before! I'd rather you develop the story or characters more than waste more time reiterating what I already know.

I get that having options to recap who's who and what's going on is helpful because obviously not everyone is going to remember anything, but I was rereading some dialogue from Elsweyr and I feel like that storyline handled balancing that so much better (Elsewyr is honestly peak character writing in general).

The main quest was also weirdly short, which didn't help this issue. Each individual quest in it was a lot shorter than I think they've been in pretty much every expansion, and there weren't many of them either (and the side quests felt longer than usual I think too?). Like, I didn't think it was paced badly, it just didn't have a lot of the waffling around trying to figure out some mystery that other stories have had. Which sounds like it would be a good thing when I type it out like this, but in hindsight I think that length is good for helping us get to know and get invested in the characters, and I just felt like we didn't have almost any of those moments here. It was like the bare minimum was a satisfyingly structured story. There weren't many slower times to get to know the characters or get a vibe on what they are thinking or feeling about current situations. For exmaple with Wormblood, it felt like he barely existed as a person and not a vessel for Mannimarco to possess at the end. While the drama of Gabrielle's sacrifice was *chefs kiss* and I liked the foreshadowing up to it, I am pretty sad she's gone since I wish we had more time with her in this story (I'm huffing copium rn that she ends up coming back somehow, extra permanent death be damned!!). Anyway, I'm hoping part 2 is longer (and doesn't get bogged down trying to explain to me who's who), and I'm choosing to remain optimistic about it.

Any finally, I'm a little worried about Darien. Idk it's hard to explain but also everything at the end happens so fast that I'm still trying to mull over it in my head (and UESP hasn't put up the dialogue yet waaaahhhhhhh). But basically, between Gabrielle and Skordo talking about Darien as if he's been dead since the assaults on Coldharbour (and them not mentioning at all how every other time we've seen Gabrielle she's basically been dedicating her life to finding Darien and insisting he's not dead), the way he's brought back implying he was dead, and Darien's dialogue once he's back, I have this nagging feeling in my head that they're overlooking or ignoring what happened in Summerset?? Maybe?? I might be dumb but I was under the impression he wasn't actually dead. I'm sorry idk how to explain it but the vibes are off and Darien's dialogue was confusing to me. Maybe I'm just being stupid.

idk I think a lot of this is just on me. Maybe I had my expectations too high. Which is a little odd for me because they weren't very high after seeing the reactions from PTS folks. I was thinking I'll try to lower them for part 2 but I also like being excited for things so knowing me I probably won't.

Anyway, hopes and predictions for part 2 to end on a higher note:

I'm hoping (coping) that when the story got split up it got split unevenly and this is more like 1/3 of the story rather than 1/2, so there will be more main story in the next part. I'm also hoping that this will truly be a part 2 of the same story, rather than a wishy-washy kinda part 2 like the DLCs used to be like.

I'm hoping my issues with the dialogue will be at least partly alleviated in part 2 because it’ll be a part 2 (like the epilogues in the yearly storylines)

I'm not at all worried about the side quests really. Looking forward to them.

I'm very excited (and very very nervous) to have Darien back. I don't really have any predictions I just really really hope they don't fuck it up and whatever they do with him feels satisfying.

I'm looking forward to seeing what ends up happenings to Mannimarco/Wormblood and Vanus. Is Wormblood still in there too or are we just facing Mannimarco from here on out? If Wormblood is still present in his body somehow, will there be conflict between him and Mannimarco? hmmmmmm

I wonder who Vanus's ally is? He kept mentioning having one and that didn't get resolved to I bet it will be addressed in part 2.

I'm curious if Gabrielle is truly dead-dead or if they're gonna pull something off with her. Everyone is talking about her like she's dead-dead so I guess that's the case, but also we don't truly know how the Gift of Death/Light of Meridia works. I'll be fine with either I think. If she stays dead, I hope they keep some weight to it instead of just moving on and never bringing it up again (not optimistic about that one), and if she comes back I hope there are still some consequences to her sacrifice rather than it being a return to the status quo. Whatever happens, I just hope it’s narratively satisfying.

John is a lot more affectionate than Tim, John shows affection both physically and verbally where Tim is much more subtle about it, Tim will cuddle with you on the couch but he's not really one to hold hands in public.

b = bed; what’s the sleeping situation like? are there regular sleeping arrangements - does anyone like to sleep alone?

You usually end up in the middle because John gets up at least twice a night to go to the bathroom and Tim wants to be on an end in case of emergency leaving you in the middle, not that your complaining about that.

c = comfort; when someone’s feeling down, how do the rest look after them?

Tim can be clueless when it comes to comforting someone, he's just like, “uh you want pizza? A beer?” John on the other hand is like let's have a weekend getaway and forget about all our worries.

John is the usual date planner, he's always looking for new places to check out and he's the one who always finds the best coupons to save some money. Tim, “really Nolan another coupon?” John, “hey we need to save some money for the Rams game we're going to next week, those stadium beers are expensive.”

e = events; who drags everyone else to their family/friends’ events?

John is the social one, he's always planning get togethers with your friends and when Henry comes to town John has an entire itinerary of things he wants to do.

f = fights; are arguments something that happen often? what are they over, and how are they resolved?

Arguments with Tim are about him pushing you away when things get hard because he thinks that is what's best for you. Arguments with John are about him constantly putting himself in danger. How do you resolve them? Well that's a constant work in progress.

g = getting together; how did it all come about? were there any pre-existing relationships between them?

You transferred to the mid Wilshire station and upon meeting Tim and John you realized you were attracted to both of them and they both wanted to be with you too. They didn't know if they would be able to share you so it was pretty awkward at first trying to figure everything out but you eventually found the relationship worked and everyone was happy in it.

h = hobbies; does anyone share any hobbies/passions? how do they include the rest of their partners in them?

Tim's are sports, John likes to read. John sort of likes sports but no where near the degree Tim does so he's able to follow along when you guys watch/go to games with Tim but when it comes to big events like the superbowl he's more interested in the party aspect versus the actual game. John is a fan of classic literature, you and Tim were actually kind of surprised at how much John reads.

i = in sickness and in health - when someone falls ill, who’s the carer and who’s the germaphobe? is there anyone that resists being looked after?

Tim is the germaphobe who stays very far away when you're sick, sleeping on the couch still feels too close he genuinely considers staying at a hotel. John is the caretaker who has no fears of getting sick, he's convinced he has an immune system of steel.

j = joker; who’s got the best sense of humour? do they like to tease and banter with everyone else?

John is the jokester and he often makes references you and Tim don't understand. Tim, “is that like an old person thing?” John, “old?? I'm only a few years older than you??”

k = knowing; who can read their partners like a book? is there anyone who’s got their walls up, even around their partners?

You're starting to break down Tim's walls slowly brick by brick. You've gotten a pretty good read on the two of them and know when something is up.

l = lavish; is there anyone who really likes to treat their partners/show them off? how do the rest tend to react - who revels in it, and who’s made shy by it?

You show off John and Tim all the time, why wouldn't you when you have two handsome boyfriends like them plus you want to make sure they know how much you love each of them.

Definitely John, he remembers every single important step in your relationship and treats them all like anniversaries. The day you met, your first date with him, your first date with both him and Tim, the day you moved in together etc.

n = nights; what’s the nighttime routine like when they’re all together?

There is a lot of you having to wake up John cause he fell asleep on the couch while watching TV before bed and Tim often goes for a run before bed.

o = open; how open is everyone with one another?

John is like an open book, he was very honest about his feelings from the beginning. Tim struggled with being vulnerable but eventually let his guard down opening up to you.

p = pda; what’s pda like with them? is there anyone who loves it, and anyone who’s less fond of it? what actions/words does it manifest as?

Like stated before Tim is not big on affection and certainly not in public, the only time he stops caring is when you are at an event and you dance together and he forgets about everyone else in the room letting himself relax. John always has his arm around you, kisses your cheek and generally tries to have you as close to him as possible (well besides at work cause Grey would definitely write you up for that).

Don't let Tim's tough exterior fool you he's down bad for you he's just not good at showing it but he would put his life on the line for you without a second thought.

It was definitely a learning experience for Tim and John having to share a partner. They both had to be open and honest about their feelings which brought a lot of deep conversations. Tim had a harder time getting used to being in a throuple and it was particularly annoying having people at work asking him questions about your relationship telling them it was none of their business.

t = terms of endearment; nicknames! who’s crazy on them, and who do they make cringe? what’re the go-to’s?

John calls you babe and dear, Tim doesn't really do nicknames and mostly calls you by your last name at work and first name at home.

u = urge; who’s the most impulsive? who do they loop into their plans, and who entertains their antics?

Obviously John has some problems with impulsivity, sometimes you get yourself wrapped into it while Tim is scolding you guys for being so reckless.

v = vacations; how do holidays go? are they big exotic trips, or the occasional staycation?

You guys mostly do weekends away, Catalina, palm springs, San Diego etc. Easy vacations to unwind from the stress of the job is best and you make sure to have one on one weekends with each of them to spend quality time together.

w = worthy; how are insecurities handled? is anyone more self-conscious than the others?

Tim is the more self conscious one, he sometimes thinks he isn't good enough for you or feels like you don't know how much he loves you because of how much more open John is than him. You constantly need to reassure him you know fully well what you mean to him and how your life wouldn't be the same without him in it.

x = xoxo; who checks up on their partners a lot when they’re apart? do they call, or are texts enough to make them feel close?

You get texts from John all day long asking how your shift is going and when you have lunch together he's catching up like he didn't see you at home only a few hours ago.

y = yearn; who misses their partners the easiest (ie, calls them to hear their voices when all they’ve done is run to the grocery store)?

You're very grateful to work with your boyfriends because if you didn't you would miss them a lot more. It's hard when one of you gets assigned to the occasional weeks of night shifts since you only get to see each other as one of you is clocking out while the others are clocking in at the station.

z = zealous; who was especially eager in their pursuit of the relationship? was anyone more reserved in their want for it?

You all had your reservations about the relationship but mostly because of work, if things didn't work out that was gonna make things real awkward and the last thing you needed was I told you so lectures from Grey about creating unnecessary drama in the workplace (don't get me wrong Grey wants you all to be happy but he also has to look out for the station and make sure it stays a healthy work environment).

one thing about being in too much pain to uphold social niceties (period and it's a bad one) is that i did spend all day at work not only doubled over and moving at a pace the ninety year old library ladies were lapping but i was even worse than usual at tasks like Looking At People Who Are Chewing Gum and "not edging away bugeyed when a coworker stands close next to me" and of course the perennial favorite "keeping track of more than three words spoken to me in a row and responding to that" and we'll let me merely say. it is just me and that murderbot. nobody else in this whole damn library understands

of ten’s companions, if the doctor couldn’t handle losing them and crossed his own timeline to trick them into traveling with future!him instead of past!him so that he’d have a little more time with them:

rose would do it. first because bless her but she has the situational awareness of a rock, and legitimately would not realize this isn’t her doctor until his facade starts to break down and he starts bleeding grief-laced love for her at every turn. but once she does realize it, she’s both deeply sympathetic and a little scared that she could make him into this. it’s a lot to be confronted with having that much power over someone, to break them so thoroughly. rose would try to get back to her doctor, but while she’s with the future version, she tries to do what she can to ease his pain. (she also tries to figure out a way to subvert her fate. she fails.)

i think martha would be harder to trick. she can smell desperation on the doctor like a bloodhound. she is so tapped into the fact that this man wants to off himself so bad and that she’s 90% of his self-restraint, so present her with a doctor who is lacking that and she’s onto him immediately. however, assuming he gets her to come with him, explains why he’s doing this, there’s like. a minute where she’s kind of. not flattered exactly, but surprised, giddy with the realization that he’d come back for a little more time with her, especially if this is early season 3 martha. which would all come crashing down around the time that he reveals that he wasn’t pushed to this by losing her to some tragedy or her death or anything- but that she chose to leave. that is the point at which martha goes ‘oh i need to get the fuck off of this tardis right now’ and ghosts the past!doctor that she was also traveling with because holy shit, man.

donna, like rose, is easily bamboozled into following the wrong doctor home, provided that he shuffles her along into his tardis too fast for her to argue. but she catches on far quicker than rose does. like, three minutes tops of watching the doctor move through the tardis in a way that’s definitely not enthusiastic piloting and looks more like guilty panic. and then she yells at him for lying to her. and she yells at him for kidnapping her. and then she stops yelling because he’s gone sort of still and quiet and his eyes are just broken. and he doesn’t explain himself, he confesses. donna is going to try to stay with him after this btw. because how do you go back to looking your best friend in the eyes when you know he’d take everything you’ve become away from you, even to save your life? and this is still the doctor, he still did that to her, but he regrets it. regrets it so much that he can’t live with it, he’s breaking time and space just to hear her say his name again. and donna doesn’t want to lose him anymore than he wanted to lose her.

Assuming that the whole 'mahiru is the vessel needed to bring back the count and the 9th servamp will be the servamp of vainglory' theory will be correct, it's interesting how both mahiru and touma can be accused of this sin even if the way it applies to them is opposed.

What touma wants is to be acknowledged and to that end he was willing to become the villain who destroyed the world before mahiru and tsurugi managed to change his mind:

Mahiru's way of being vainglorious seems a lot more positive at first because he wants to be a hero who saves others, but it's self-destructive and encourages laziness in others:

But thankfully we see mahiru starting to let go of the need to make other people proud of him and to prioritize making himself proud in his conversation with tsurugi:

and later when mahiru has a meltdown because he fears his uncle might be dead and suggests sacrificing his life to save the world kuro rightfully yells at mahiru for acting hypocritical and not listening to his own advice:

(I want to mention here that I really love how horrified kuro looks as he realizes that mahiru's reckless hero behaviour comes from a very self-destructing place:

because not a lot of manga I know really acknowledge that maybe the way a lot of their protagonists try to be heroic is actually pretty unhealthy and shouldn't be encouraged? Like Sigurd pointed out at the C3 meeting, it's kind of shameful that the children have to save the day)

Which is why I love that mahiru decided to trust kuro to handle tsubaki without him going with him:

He decides to stay back with everyone else, showing that he has learned that he doesn't need to be the one to do everything and can stay back with the others to buy kuro time.

Interestingly we see touma doing something similar. Opposed to his old need to have the whole world acknowledge him he now wishes for everyone to believe he's dead and he's helping to protect the city by creating a huge barrier without making it known that's he the one doing this:

He's helping the protagonists seemingly with no intention of earning acknowledgement for it.

I think in a way it could be cool of servamp to subvert the shouned trope that for the finale battle the only one able to defeat the big bad is the protagonist while everyone else just watches on from the sidelines, not allowed to do anything because this is the protagonist's moment of glory.

What if lily's plan when he put kuro in mahiru's path was that if kuro tried to stop tsubaki at the gate surely his eve would need to be there with him, right? Because of course he needs his eve to fight and then there's also the distance limit. So why not make the vessel you need at that gate for the ritual to work kuro's eve? Then the vessel would be at the place where you need them without you even needing to do something because naturally they would be thinking they are doing the right thing by going with kuro to fight tsubaki together. And surely someone as vainglorious as mahiru would never pass up the opportunity to be the hero who stops tsubaki. It's foolproof!

Unless of course before the ritual the vessel learned to let go of their vainglorious nature, accepted that it's okay to take a step into the background and trust in others. And additionally also found a way to break through the whole forced proximity thing that the servamp and eves had going on.

I don't know, I feel like it would be a neat bow on mahiru's character arc and a unique way to thawrt the antagonists' plans if the creation of the servamp of vainglory failed because the 'it has to be me' guy they wanted to use as the vessel decided against glory and stayed back to let his partner handle things with tsubaki alone because he trusts him. Kuro on the other hand wants to make up for his past regrets and resolve the conflict through communication this time. Learning to trust in himself again by managing to talk tsubaki out of going through with the ritual on his own would be a logical conclusion to kuro's arc.

Man that DLC's final boss has got me feeling kinda fucked. I'm kinda depressed about it now that I'm done. Everything else is, was, so good. But I do not like that plot development. I honestly think it is bad. Why did they choose not to foreshadow this in literally any way? Why did Miquella attempt to resurrect Godwyn at all in the first place, then? Practice? Was this really what was originally planned? There's no actual evidence to the contrary so you gotta assume it must've been.

One of my favorite things to see in sw media is non-Force sensitives grabbing a lightsaber and just going to town. I don’t want them to be revealed to secretly have been a Force user or secretly a Jedi or ANYTHING, I don’t care or even WANT for them to be an experienced fighter at all, I want some average shmuck to grab a lightsaber whether they know whoever dropped it or not and just start whaling on people or torch-cutting a door open or welding one shut or stuffing their homie inside a dead tauntaun. Experienced sword masters are impressive but sometimes it’s just more interesting and better for the story seeing how a novice approaches the situation
