A Linked Universe meets The Dark Crystal AU! I don't even remember what started it at this point. I remembered that the Dark Crystal and Age of Resistance are things I like, blinked, and woke up three days later with an AU and a bunch of art.

The designs and the story are a wip and for fun so expect a lot of variation! (I have a few different beginnings, ideas for different designs, etc)! :D

My re:zero character tier list after catching up with the anime and finishing like 2 of the light novels

#re:zero #ya I'm not tagging everyone #you can just ignore that bottom tier. thats just there to help me sort #you ever watched a show when it came out almost 10 years ago and then forget about it while waiting years for news on season 2 #and then you see video essays on one of the characters and some comments online that make you go “hm. that doesnt sound right”#but you haven't watched the series recently enough to engage in either of those things meaningfully #so then you go to rewatch the series and find that theres suddenly three seasons and a movie #and also find you enjoy the series WAY more as an adult than you did as a kid #cuz thats been my experience with re:zero #I'm reading the light novels instead of the web novels because i was able to find audiobooks for the light novels #I've enjoyed how much more insight there is to the characters so far #though that may just be a case of “because i know whats gonna happen I'm actively looking for hints”#also idk what was wrong with 14 y/o me. i hated Julius back then but now I'm just like “omg my beautiful wife” whenever he's on screen

Explain why my fully cognitive, 61-year-old mother needed someone else to make rice for her butter chicken?

It is literally putting a cup of rice into 2 cups of boiling water, turning the heat down, covering the pot, and waiting for 20 minutes. Why tf did she "need" someone to do this for her like she's 2!?

Like yeah, she has some mobility issues, and can't really walk far or go up and down stairs much (which is at least half of why my sister and I still live here to help her), but none of the disabilities she has remotely prevent her from putting rice into water, covering a pot, and then sitting down to wait for 20 minutes!

I feel like she interprets "live here in part to help with her mobility issues" as "never having to do literally anything for herself ever again", and it's like... No... If you can do something for yourself, then fucking do it. We do not live here so you can sit on your ass doing nothing 95% of the time, being waited on hand and foot like the Queen of Quebec while also actively charging rent for the "privilege" of doing so.

#okay i promise i'm going to get off tumblr and actually get something decent done #but i just have to mention that i started reading 'thief liar lady'#the cinderella retelling where she's pulling a con #which i did not have high expectations for because that concept screams 'we're going to prove how dumb the original cinderella story is'#so i have to give it credit that so far it's pleasantly surprising me by pulling back every time it's about to do something stupid #within the first page or two we have 'they say the slippers were glass and the carriage was made of a pumpkin which is so dumb'#which seems like standard cinderella bashing but it's also framed as an explanation of the magic system #as in 'this is a waste of magic based on the rules' not 'this story is stupid and my 'real' one is better' so i can live with it #we have the enemy prince she's trying to con but he's not a dumb strawman royal #he's actually a sweet guy and a shrewd diplomat #all the royals are actually getting credit for talents as well as flaws #no strawmen in sight (i still shudder to remember 'just ella')#it feels like real politics #and there is *so much* politics and i am eating it up #(which makes me realize that one of the reasons i love cinderella retellings is that there's a lot of potential for politics)#we did have a scene where she goes into the throne room and meets a strange disheveled nobleman lounging on the throne #which made me roll my eyes because you could not have had a more obvious 'meeting the ya love interest' scene #but then there's a scene where she's like 'i don't care about embroidery'#and i internally groaned #but then she's like 'but i do like the embroidery circle because it's relaxing to be away from the men for a while'#so to my delight i could cancel the 'not like other girls' alert #the queen is feminine and her social skills are presented as a vital political skill #the swearing is really stupid and out of place and brings the book down #and i know that there'll most likely be something that makes me stop reading it before the 25% mark #but i do want to give the book credit for pleasantly surprising me #i'm liking it more than i otherwise would because of all the ways i was expecting it to disappoint me

I came up with a headcanon (which is impressive because I don't often do those).

With my guy being a vampire and all and me usually imagining us in my world (I technically have a profile in his world, but I just don't fantasize about being in the game that much), it's likely that there are some hard limitations on where he can feed. It's a given that I am one source of blood, but you can't exactly create missing cats or people in the streets nowadays like you could back in medieval fantasy days I guess (I would not want him to anyway), so odds are I am now 'stuck' as his only source of blood.

That of course brings some complications as there is only so much I can offer and I also imagine it can be hard to contain yourself when you're getting good food (mosquitos irl will tell you I am an absolute snack, sigh), so I figured that there may be times where he would accidentally drink too much, leaving me in a weak and vulnerable state, unable to go about my day normally. I'll tell him it's fine, he'll feel bad about it, and we'll compromise by having him treat me nice as if I am ill (which is not far off I imagine).

So I was enjoying the thought of having him wrap me up in a fleece blanket on the couch, Netflix on, hot drinks whenever I require one, and hopefully plenty of snuggles. 🥰

This was also followed by me realizing that any vampiric bite marks should probably be covered up, and although I was thinking bandaids, I now realize that just walking around with bite marks is actually less suspicious. Bandaids in the neck are odd, and bandaids on the wrist are concerning. Maybe not give people any ideas. Mostly a concern for summer though, I can cover so much up in winter. Either way, I wear black most of the time, so it's easier to just have them think it's some goth make-up or something.

I also realize I have very vampire-friendly blinds now: they block sunlight completely while still allowing the room to be properly lit. Oops. 🤣

I think someone put the brain of a mouse or maybe a squirrel inside my head at some point because all winter I was like “I crave nuts and seeds” and now that it’s getting warmer and brighter out my brain keeps going “it’s fruit time”

Like, modern transportation has made it possible to move many fruits all over the world (in theory) all the time! But the primal early plesiadapiform part of my brain is like “you must eat what is available this season”

#I was going to go with euarchonta or plesiadapiform brain but I think the early members of both of those groups were from a tropical #ecosystem. if I’m wrong though and either are from more seasonal environments I could change what I used #actually. wait. plesiadapis is from the late Paleocene. yes. but tropical plants have reproductive cycles too #do they generally vary by season or are they just doing it all at their own pace by species #I am from a very cold seasonal climate that gets hot af in summer but is pretty cold for a good five-ish months #not all equally cold #it’s bad for our environment if it doesn’t get cold as balls for a bit every winter #and we didn’t really get that this winter. but that’s not my point!#I mean to say I can’t remember how it works in tropical environments #if the plants just time their reproduction whenever in the year or if there are seasons for most plants at the same time #does that make sense? I’m using the primate-like-mammal. if it’s wrong then whatever #fuck it we ball #maybe I should have gone with a group further back in time but I couldn’t find climate info easily about things that far back and fuzzier #i am not the most familiar with primate evolution. especially early evolution of the group. I’m open to learning more #i just tend to fixate on certain other things like early mammals and horse and cat evolution #paleontology #emma posts #I like juice all year though #one day I want to try many varieties of fruits that I cannot access easily where I live because they can’t be shipped here #or they just aren’t as popular a variety on an industrial scale #maybe one day i will have a big greenhouse and i will be able to grow the banana varieties I want to try #I can see why some plant varieties aren’t grown on a large scale. some of these bitches are SUPPOSED to be able to grow in zone four but #they refuse to work with me! blueberries make sense. the soil here is nowhere near acidic enough and they would need to be in a pot or #whatever. ya know? but some plants just won’t! or I get them and then the weather here which would NORMALLY work is different that season
