I know it’s cliche but right now with all the horror happening I just keep asking where is god? I see videos of Palestinians calling for god and saying they give themselves to God while they’re surrounded by their dead family and I just … I feel so much aching. Like I believe in God but also are we all abandoned by God? How else can all these horrors be happening? I’m so sad. Where is God.
The problem of evil has no easy answer, no matter how much apologists claim that it does. I would be concerned if people weren't deeply troubled and shaken when witnessing the devastation of Gaza.
Suffering is in many ways inevitable for everyone, no matter who they might be ("good" or "evil"). This life is not easy. People inflict harm unto one another, sometimes in the most horrific of ways. Death happens to us all, some more brutally than others. The trauma of existence is unavoidable.
In Christianity, there is this notion of God being amongst the suffering (thus the significance of the cross) but human beings will ultimately transcend that suffering in Christ and/or upon uniting with God in heaven. In Islam, there is also an understanding the suffering is an inevitability but people will be freed from that suffering upon uniting with God in Jannah once they surrender to God ("Islam" literally means to surrender). God is the ultimate form of peace in both religions. So when witnessing the Palestinians in Gaza who are declaring themselves to God (both Christians and Muslims) they are taking refuge in God.
I cannot answer the question "Why does God allow bad things to happen?" That question cannot be answered, but meditated and prayed on.
What I will say is that, at least in my faith, Jesus Christ is suffering with the Palestinians. God has experienced every bit of pain and affliction that human beings have experienced and every sin that has been committed. And that that God understands intimately the suffering of this world. God is crying with us.

Take care of your heart
Take care of your soul.
And take care of your overall self.
If not, then who will? How will you ever live this life properly or even get to build your jannah? When will you is the real question? When was the last time you even reflected and asked yourself what you are doing and sat with the buried pain you are living by? Maybe this is the tone we need to hear to wake up and grind. We can't continue to sugarcoat our lives, make excuses and feel sorry for ourselves. This is just a cycle we are repeating and assuming the life we are living is ok when literally it's the complete opposite. With this lifestyle, we are sabotaging all the good Allah blessed us with and taking them for granted. We have to be grateful and educate ourselves about our faiths/ourselves and this overall life we are living.
There's no time and it's sad how we are able to waste it all over one or two things as if we know for sure our time is promised. Sometimes this can be exactly why we keep getting tested. I call these tests a calling to quit these ignorant habits and do better. All it takes is that one positive thought, feeling, intention then action to influence the next actions that will help us do better. Just remembe, it's always that ONE step that will fill your pages with great stories...
The mercy of Allah is so vast. He continues to aid us through our messiness, continues to forgive us and is always there no matter how distant we can get from him and our shortcomings.

can you explain the connotation of shaheed more? i read the wikipedia article but i had trouble understanding the power of the word as you described it. maybe it's just because i have negative associations with death... does islam have those associations too, or is it more accepting and understanding about death?
This is another article I found that would explain it better than i could
Something that needs to be remembered when translating ANYTHING into another language is that the meaning gets lost a tiny bit by virtue of how words in different languages don't always mean the same thing. Shaheed, which is translated as martyr in english has multiple meanings that get conflated with other nonsense because the word martyr has multiple meanings as well. Shaheed also means to witness or bear witness, one who wtinesses, and i believe in this it means witness for Allah. It's an honor for a Muslim to do something in the name of Allah.
But it's also because Western powers like to use words to scare people (like jihad) when they really arent meant to be scary at all.
i haven't been a practicing muslim for a long time but growing up we were never taught to fear death, at least not the way USAmerican culture made it seem like we should. She said we would be returning to Allah so it would be okay, that we'd go to Jannah (heaven) and be saved as long as we lived a just and holy life. So even though we were sad at funerals we also prayed and celebrated the person's life, because that was what brought us peace
Death is complicated in every culture and you'll find a thousand ways to try to explain it in every single culture and even different species. It's tragic and sad and brings us all pain, so if religion aims to make death a little less scary by allowing us this comfort, then that's a beautiful thing i think.
One of the universal ideas that unite all humans is our fear of death, and our search for comfort in it. And I think that's beautiful.
(Like I said I haven't been Muslim for a long time so please correct me if I'm wrong I'm drawing from my childhood and sunday school experiences lol)

We all are broken in some sort of way, we all have some amount of grief in our hearts, we all carry some sadness in our eyes. Perhaps it is losing someone we love to death, perhaps a hurtful word, perhaps the person who you thought will never leave, walked away or perhaps we don't really know the reason. But what we do know is that we will be tested in this world by Allāh Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, that these trials are for a reason and for our benefit only.
Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said: “If Allāh wills good for someone, He afflicts him with trials.”(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 5645)
There's a saying that goes: "Perhaps Allāh broke your heart because he wants to see you in Jannah." Isn't that beautiful?
And why do we forget that one of his names is 'Al-Jabbar' The one who fixes the broken things. Ask him to heal you. You cannot go to the One whose attribute is mending what is broken and not be healed by him.
Also remember that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allāh expiates some of his sins for that."
And see the other side of this situation too, because you're broken you understand the others who are going through some similar situations. Because you know how words can hurt someone's heart you think a lot before you speak, just so it couldn't wound someone's heart. And don't you think this all counts as good deeds?
Abdullah ibn Amr (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
"الرَّاحِمُونَ يَرْحَمُهُمْ الرَّحْمَنُ ارْحَمُوا مَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ يَرْحَمْكُمْ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاءِ"
"Those who are merciful will be shown mercy by the Merciful. Be merciful to those on the earth and the One above the heavens will have mercy upon you." (Sunan al-Tirmidhī 1924)
The pain you're going through is expiating your sins and the way how you're being kind to the people in your life good deeds are being recorded in your book of deeds.
So don't let this brokenness make you fall into the pit of darkness, seek refuge with Allāh Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala from it instead, ask him to heal you instead, use it to get closer to your Lord instead, let it fuel you towards your eternal home- Jannah.

Quote
People who reject religion and God often do so because they cannot understand the existence of pain and suffering in this world. They expect this world to be a place of no evil, and when they find any evil, they use it to reject the place of God and religion. "Why would God not create a perfect, blissful world, without pain, without suffering, without death?" they ask. "How could a merciful God create an imperfect world?" The sad irony is that we Muslims as well essentially believe in the exact same thing. Indeed, a true God would create a perfect world, and it's called Jannah. These people want to be given Jannah without any effort. They believe they have essentially 'earned' Jannah merely by their existence (and of course even their existence was not even of their own doing). We, on the other hand, believe the pain and suffering and evil that exists in this world is all meant to extract from us the potential to counter than pain with mercy, to counter that suffering with compassion and patience, and to counter that evil with good. Each opportunity, if approached with faith, becomes an opportunity of good, and any pain or suffering diminishes when compared to the good that comes out of it. And in the end, the greatest of all good, which is Paradise, is contingent on our responses to these trials of this world. Rather than question the existence of God because of calamity (which is similar to Satan rejecting the worship of Allah because of his own arrogance), a humble believer submits to the Will of Allah and recognizes that every calamity has a greater good hidden in it, and every believer has the potential and capacity to unlock that greater good and maximize the potential to earn Paradise, the place of no suffering or evil.

Dear Sissy
I don't know where to post this, I think years of long messages regarding pain and hurt and reuniting are past the grey wall.
I think my love for you was deeper than the tree roots that embed themselves into the ground keeping even the Baobab tree upright.
Yet, the first time you left me I was sad and confused, the next time I was hurt and angry, the time after that I was angry and the time after that I was understanding.
The cycle of forgiveness and pain. I still forgive you. I cannot be angry but I can no longer give that part of myself to you.
The part I thought you healed, the part I thought was no longer broken.
It's broken, into a million pieces now the roots as fragile as dandelion petals,
I do not hate you,
I am not angry with you,
Yes I am hurt but this new feeling in me is not something I recognise,
Like the dimming of a light,
Or what I thought was a light,
It was a candle,
Funny how we were watching hunters stay strong, laughing and joking just a few days ago,
Every time I looked at you this year,
I knew you would leave,
I had a fear in my heart and held your hand,
I ignored the signs,
As I watched the sunlight bounce off your innocent face,
I watched it highlight the dark rims underneath your eyes,
Which many a men have caused,
I watched them form and I saw your story,
Maybe being an observer made me think I held some importance to it,
Maybe I held too tightly onto my non existent influence of Qadr,
I hope you've hurt me for the last time,
I also hope you haven't,
But I do love you,
But these scars will withstand the test of time,
Until we reunite in Jannah,
Inshaa - no-
Ameen.
How silly of me to think that words could convey the gravity of our relationship.
AlhumdulilAllah

One of my favourite verses from the Qur’an.
That always calms me down no matter what 🕊️
“La Tahzan InnAllaha Ma’ana”
Don’t be sad indeed. Allāh is with us 🤍
I pray that we benefit from the words that follow and they bring some peace to our heart and thoughts.
Dear My Self........
I may not know what you are going through but I understand that life has been hard.
We have a lot of questions running through our mind right now about our life and why things are the way they are.
I may not have the answers to those questions but I hope that my words may help you in some way or the other.
If Allāh wills.
Firstly.
Did you know that for every pain that you have been going through. A few of your sins are being expiated???
“No calamity befalls a Muslim but that Allah expiates some of his sins because of it, even though it were the prick he receives from a thorn.”
Yeah we heard that right???
Even if a thorn pricks us. Our sins are being cleansed.
So, imagine how many of our sins might have already been expiated because of the pain we have been going through all along!
SubhanAllāh!
Allāh knows that we are hurt.
Allāh sees and Allāh never does any injustice..
That’s why.
For every calamity that befalls us. Allāh gives us something good in return!
Put our trust in Allāh ﷻ!
And know that even though today the world is not on your side.
You are not alone.
Allāh SWT is watching over us and Allāh WILL give us our due right!
Allāh will replace the sad days with the happy ones.
TRUST ALLAH!
Allāh is our creator.
And Allāh has the knowledge of the unseen.
Allāh can see what we can’t and Allāh knows what’s best for us.
“But it may happen that you hate a thing which is good for you. And it may happen that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows. You know not.”
(📖 Q.S Al Baqarah | 2:216)
So, know that whatever is happening right now will eventually lead to something good.
I know today all we can see is the downside of it.
But tomorrow we will smile and say Alhamdulillah for it! Because.... ALLAH LOVES US..
And Allāh knows what is best for us.
So seek refuge in Allāh.
“Allah does not burden a soul beyond that which it can bear”
(📖 Q.S Al Baqarah | 2:286).
So if today there is something that’s happening which is burdening our soul. Remember Allāh knows our capability better than us.
And so BELIEVE that we can and will survive through this situation we are in today because Allāh says so.
And Allāh knows best right?!
It could also be that Allāh sent away all those people in your life.
So that there could be just you and Him!
So. Wipe away those tears. Take out your prayer mat. Sit down. Raise your hands.
Cry if have to and tell Al6lah EVERYTHING that’s on our mind and heart.
It’s not that Allāh does not know. But do it so that it decreases the load that you have been carrying in your heart all along!
I pray that Allāh rewards us every breath we take at this time of difficulty and Allāh relieves us of the pain soon.
So smile!
“Don’t be sad. Allāh is with us!”
I am nowhere near a perfect Muslimah. I still have so much to learn and I want to keep on learning. Every day I ask myself.
"How far are you from Jannah?".
I'm a Muslim. ISLAM IS PERFECT but I am not 😌🦋

I know, the whole world knows how it's easy to say,"Have sabr, trust in Allah's plans." and how its actually so hard to do so. That's why patience is one of the doors of jannah. That's why they're called trials. Because trying symbolises efforts and struggles. We try and try and think we are past our abilities to try anymore and then we do try some more. We try to remain afloat when the waves are pushing us ,drowning us into oblivion and the unknown. And just when you think you're getting better, you're handling the grief better . You're getting over the loss a little better. You're reminded of your frailty .  You think this time, there's no coming back from this . It has to be the end. But you know what happens? You do come back from it;stronger, wiser, calmer, more patient ,more grateful. And you realise that  Allah's plans are always always better than the ones you could ever possibly have for yourself. And then you forget every pain, every worry ,every sadness and all you can do is lavish in the love and mercy you know so deeply you can experience only from your Lord.

You're tired.
You feel like life is throwing too much on you, you delay your salah and at times to a point that you miss it. You feel stressed out as if there's no more way out from all the problems you are facing. You feel unhappy that even through listening to Islamic lectures or the Qur'an - your heart still feels empty.
Indeed, you are positive that you have drifted away - that you are truly lost.
Yet, here you are - reading this post because you saw "hold on" on the poster. Doesn't that tell you something? Yes, you want to read this because you are holding on - you are looking for a way out. You have not totally drifted away from Allah rather Allah is still calling you back to Him.
Wandering soul, you have to understand that a believer's heart will always become uneasy when it has swayed away from its Creator. Whatever you are feeling now - this emptiness, this depression, this sadness and all those negative emotions - its a result of your abandonment of Allah and the Qur'an - nothing else.
You"think" you may have many "reasons" to justify why you are in such situations such as:
[1] you find it hard to marry someone.
Have you not thought that maybe you are in a haraam relationship or that you are having idle talks with the opposite sex or just ultimately you are not doing the means of asking Allah for it?
[2] you are in so much debt.
Have you not thought that maybe you are in this mess because you are earning from a thing that is haraam or has riba (interest) in it? Give sadaqah even a smile or a good word is sadaqah. Do not be greedy on it.
[3] your marriage is on the rocks.
Have you not thought that maybe your relationship has gone downhill because you have made your spouse greater in position in your life than Allah? Recollect your thoughts. The more a couple is closer to Allah, so will their relationship will be.
[4] you are failing in everything you seem to do.
Have you not thought that maybe you are having so much screen time that you get so lazy in studying or revising. Remember, Allah is the one who brings ease, he told you this in the Qur'an not only once - but twice. Inna ma'al usri yusra.
These are just maybe the couple of challenges that us, nowadays, face yet let me give you some samples that would make you realize how minute these challenges we face compared to the people who came before us.
_____
Julaybib Radiyallahu Anhu - I know a lot of you may have heard about his story but let me just tell you a glimpse of it - he found it very hard to get married due to his appearance yet his adaab and akhlaaq were such high that our beloved Prophet Muhammad took him as his own.
Due to his diligence upon Allah and his perfection of his faith, Allah showered him with the blessings of raising his status both here in the dunya and akhirah. Allah blessed him with a great woman to be his wife as well - all of this because he held on (to Allah). So, hold on. [1]
_____
Mus'ab Ibn Umair Radiyallahu Anhu - if you have been reading my posts, then I am sure you would have come across his story in one of them. He was known as the flower of the Qurash - due to his appearance and status. He was so handsome and came from a high status and prominent family. He was known for his lavish clothes, as well.
When Islam came, he was one of the few people who accepted it and due to this his family threw him out from their lives and along with it all of the luxuries. He was the person that when the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam see, he would tear up because of the sacrifices he has done for Islam and being with him.
My dear brothers and sisters in Islam, you may be in debt which is a thing that you can repay here and there but imagine Mus'ab - he was left with nothing and know that he was brought up with all the luxuries in life so his life turned 360 in just one day.
With his tolerance and great sacrifice, Allah raised his status by making him the first envoy of Islam. He was the first messenger that was sent to Madinah to do dawah before our Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam made hijrah - all of this because he hold
on (to Allah), So hold on. [2]
_____
Umm Hakeem Bint Harith Radiyallahu Anha - I wrote about this beautiful woman in one of my posts. She is the wife of Ikrimah - the son of Abu Jahl. Her love story is very fascinating. She is an epitome of patience and true love, indeed.
When she entered the fold of Islam, her husband Ikrimah fled to Yemen out of the fear that he may be put on the sword as Muslims have finally conquered Makkah. So, instead of just living her new life as a Muslim - she made a plea to the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam instead that to give her the chance to convince her husband to come into the fold of Islam as she believes her husband will be of a useful man for Islam.
So she went on to search for her husband - the story is quite long but as soon as she found her husband - she did her best to convince him and indeed Ikrimah joined her back to Makkah and ultimately entered the fold of Islam.
If your marriage are on the rocks - then imagine Umm Hakeem's situation that time - just because she entered the fold of Islam - she was left all alone and fragile but she never gave up on her husband and indeed if our love is true for our spouse - we won't just give up on him/her - we will do whatever it takes to save them, so even with the amplest faith left - she held on (to Allah). So, hold on. [3]
_____
The Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalam - there is no introduction needed for this great man. Rather, I want to remind you of his encounter with the people of Taif when he was thrown rocks at to the point that only his sandals were not covered with blood.
And before this incident happened, he tried to talk to the people and the leaders of the tribe of Ta'if and failure upon failure did he get to the extend that he was shattered with blood with their rocks. Yet, when he was pale and in pain and Jibrail Alaihi Salaam came and asked him if he wanted to take revenge on the people of Taif - our beloved Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam said no because he held on (to Allah) that someone amongst in the progeny of these people might become a follower of Islam.
Imagine the physical abuse he had gone through, and we are here just feeling depressed as if the work has turned its back on us - he was covered with blood while here we are reading this post in the comfort of our homes - yet we still feel everything is going downhill.
He Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam held on (to Allah), So hold on. [4]
______
My dear brothers and sisters, true and ultimate failure is the abandonment of Allah and the Qur'an. We reap what we sow. If we walk into this life deluded with the tricks of Shaitaan and giving into each of them - then we have indeed, failed our test here and ultimately we will face that on the day we meet Allah.
Yet, if we walk into this life with the light of Islam and abiding to what has been given to us in accordance of this beautiful way of life, then be ready to harvest the rewards of it on the day we finally all enter Jannah.
A simple thought that you can also go by, if all of the above has not affected your heart - Jannah. Imagine, just imagine the day you enter the gates of Jannah. So hold on, hold tight to Allah.
Allah isn't the one who has let you go, you are the one who let go - yet His Mercy is still there - so Hold on to it.
Hold on. Jannah - in there is the true success.
_____
May Allah make it easy for all of us.
Amin
Zohayma

If you’re stressed, take a deep breath and release those cares to Allah. He can handle everything that concerns you.”
أَلَيْسَ اللَّهُ بِكَافٍ عَبْدَه؟
"Is not Allah sufficient for His servant?"
•[39:36]
When you feel like you’re constantly in the dark, know with full trust that Allah is preparing you for something filled with Light.
For those of you who are currently struggling with your hardships, always remember there are so many beautiful things to live for.
Sabr through the day while walking around with that suffocating feeling in your heart that makes you want to leave this dunya
For every pain that you feel in this world, there’s a reward for it in the next.
Trust Allaah when things don’t work out the way you want. Allaah has something better planned for you.
If Allaah wants it for you, it will be yours. Don't stress out so much.
يؤتكم خيرا مما أخذ منكم
He will give you something better than what was taken from you. #Quran 8:70
Sometimes we make duaa for a door of dunya. When it doesnt open, we cry. Not realizing that Allah has instead opened a door of jannah for us
When you feel frustrated with the way things are going in your life, — That's your faith being TESTED. Focus on the outcome, not the obstacles.
Different people get tested in different ways. Allaah is Just, He will only try you with what you can bear. If it's stopping you from getting closer to Allaah, then you need to let it go.
but I promise you there's always beauty in the struggle. Allaah ﷻ will never burden you beyond your ability, you’re strong enough to fight.
This pain in your heart was created to make you yearn less for this life and to yearn more for Jannah.
How sad is it to pray next to someone who you know is going through this world with a broken heart and seeing them stay in Sujood for a few extra moments, only because this is probably the only comfort they ever find themselves in anymore.
If you're ever feeling astray from Allaah, keep holding onto Him, never lose hope in Him, and call out to Him.
Reach out for help because sabr isn’t suffering in silence.
You must remind yourself that He is with you. He watches with love as you go about the rest of the day.
He knows there are things that are making your heart feel heavy. Stop despairing. He hasn’t left, He never does.
Call on your Lord when your heart is brittle, that is a time when it’s in pieces and the Light of Allaah can fill the gaps.
Do your part by getting help if you need it, by making dua to Him to ease your situation. He will do His part.
That is why Allaah is with the broken hearted
To all the aching souls right now:May Allaah (ﷻ) mends your hearts.
May gentler and warmer days come your way.
O' Allaah! Remove this hardship from our souls and revive it with joy and happiness from nothing but You.
O' Allaah! Lift our souls, relieve our burdens, and make us of those who put their trust in You for all their affairs.
Ameen Allahumma Ameen
Share it with your family and friends :)

To the 14 year old sister who sent me the ask this morning, I decided not to publicly share your venting, but here are my thoughts:
First of all: YOU'RE ONLY FOURTEEN! YOU ARE A BABY! A CHILD ! A MINOR! (WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE ON TUMBLR) and also why are you taking life so brutally serious at this point? All I wanna do is hug you and take you to eat frozen yogurt or sth!!!!
It genuinely doesn't make sense to me how could you be going thru so much pain at such a young age and I am afraid this would not be a pain decreed by Allah swt but actually caused by your surroundings and your perspective of the world 🥺💔
But anyways, speaking of tests and trials..
There is a purpose behind the trial, and this purpose corresponds to our internal state and our relationship with Allah SWT.
Allah SWT has 99 Beautiful Names, and it should suffice us to know that He is the Most Merciful, the Most Just and the Most Wise. Your test is not being put upon you by a random being, but by the Almighty Allah, who is closer to us than our jugular vein.
Tests are a way to purify us.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said,
“No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that,”  [Bukhari]
Our ultimate aim is to earn Allah’s pleasure and Jannah and all of us fall short in truly worshiping Allah SWT as He should be worshiped. Many of us fail to ask for forgiveness regularly, or to reflect on our state and return to Allah SWT.
These tests, as burdensome as they are, ease our burden on the Day of Judgment, if we respond with patience. Trials also have a way of reminding us of our purpose. If we are far from Allah SWT the test is usually to bring us close to Him.
Whatever heedlessness we are engaging in, the test should make us realize we have no one, no one at all, but Him.
When it comes to the issue of your friend, that's from shaytan, shaytan wants to make you restless and dissatisfied with your blessings. So whenever you feel that way, make Istighfar for it and try to focus on your own blessings, and to thank Allah swt for all the good things He swt gave you, because gratitude increases blessings.
Khayr in shaa Allah, my dear, don't stress yourself too much. This is Duniya, this is the lower life, this whole life is only temporary, it's not even worth it.
Allahu al mustaān 🤍.

🚨The Rise of Skywalker Detailed Review and Spoilers Ahead🚨
Tumblr media
George Lucas: “If the boy and girl walk off into the sunset hand-in-hand in the last scene, it adds 10 million to the box office”
The “fairytale” we got: A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, there was a curse of pain and death in a family that just went on and on.  They were never able to break it and they all die, the end.
Well, you did it JJ, you little punk...you ruined 40 years of cinema. Kids are coming out of theatres crying, they can’t understand. I guess this was the “fun and hopeful ending” you were speaking of during the press tours.  Are you on crack or something, or just sadistic....why would you promote it like that!? Did you forget Star Wars at its core is a story of hope, light, a fairytale in space for children? They did it...they united Reylo’s and Fanboys through hate.
JJ you do realize tragical romances are only tragically romantic if there was romantic buildup? Romeo and Juliet married in secret, Anidala did as well and flirted in the fields. How was this supposed to be satisfying? A five-second beginning, middle, and end. How this went through multiple execs is beyond me.... I would have understood if Reylo was Rian’s creation. BUT JJ LITERALLY was the one who told Rian to go forth with it...he created Reylo so you can’t say the last Jedi derailed things on that front. JJ wasn’t brave enough for his own vision. This movie was like “the crimes of Grindlewald”, a lot of stuff happening that made me feel nothing.
Okay, first things first. The OG trilogy was necessary, the prequels were necessary to set up that Vader did not start off bad. What was necessary about the sequels? They just dismantled everything the Skywalker family worked for. Why did we have to see ALL of our favorite characters die? Was the aim that a villain can only be redeemed through death? How original. I’m convinced what they were planning for since force awakens was a journey from villain to hero...but instead we got this a 10min redemption resulting in death a la Vader. Why call Adam Driver’s character a “Disney Prince”?When did Happy endings become so controversial? We go to the movies to feel hope, to escape reality...George Lucas understood that. JJ’s trilogy is uninspired, bland and contributes nothing to the saga. JJ went as far as to recon his own “The Force Awakens”.It had the chance to define generations but no. Literal and utter garbage. Rian made some odd choices but he was bold, unafraid and had the vision. HE knew emotion was at the heart of Star Wars.
WHERE DID THE SKYWALKERS RISE? MORE LIKE RISE OF PALPATINE,  HE BLOODY WON
BUT my problem is not with the ending, it’s the bloody entire movie. This movie made me realize that it's not Reylo that I am a fan of, it was Ben, Leia, Han, Ani, Padme, and all those other characters. I’m upset because this movie is not my Star Wars: of family, love and above all else hope. This is just a 2.5-hour video game with no emotions. This trilogy was all angst with NO payoff.
Okay, you will never ever convince me Palpatine was planned the whole time. This whole movie was retcon for the Last Jedi that pissed off the fanboys. Lucas films did not have an outline for the three films and Rian derailed whatever they wanted to do....except they didn’t even tell him what they wanted! This should be a cautionary tale of why you need to plan. Kylo ain’t bad, Snoke is gone....well pull out Palpatine I guess. This whole film is JJ’s mad scrambling.  Alright, I will humor you, tell me how Palpatine came back when he fell down a shaft and exploded....not *boom boom because of force*. The force in this movie is not canon George Lucas force, it’s just an easy out whenever JJ wants one.
1. Opening Crawl: As soon as I saw this I knew all the leaks were true, I wanted to bolt from the theatre. When I saw them in August I laughed cause it was so ridiculous it couldn’t be true. How could Disney let a whole movie leak? The plot seemed like a bad fan-fiction. Actually, fanfics are way more true to lore. Anyway, so Palpatine “announces” that he’s back. Is this the shrewd Chancellor Palpatine we know? Certainly, not...why in the world would he announce it rather than keep on the DL and just attack. Yo Palps ain’t this dumb why would you let them (the resistance) prepare?? Because of plot...well okay.
2. Did Last Jedi even happen:  this film is the sequel to the force awakens, like TLJ never happened...except it’s acting like there was some movie in between that JJ made. Okay, so why is Kylo trying to run Rey over with his tie fighter...he doesn’t really want to kill her. It’s just meaningless action shots.  And don’t get me started on exposition, the dialogue: “hey look its the Knights of Ren”. Except they do nothing. Cool cool.  Kylo’s character goes back to Force awakens era like no development had occurred...except he’s not even there he’s just messing around not even being a real villain.  JJ’s specialty is set-up and he does this beautifully....but he can not wrap up and follow through.
3. Rose Tico: yup last Jedi never happened, she has nothing to do. She and Finn are irrelevant. Finn has reverted to being obsessed with Rey. Cool Cool.  I honestly feel so bad for the lovely Kelly Marie Tran. How did you relegate a relatively big character into the sidelines?? Why introduce two new characters this late. Rose could have filmed in for them...but alas we must snub Rian at every turn because that’s just how petty JJ Abrams is. ( don’t get me wrong Jannah was cool)
4. The Rise Of Poe Dameron: Finn has been relegated to a side character who does nothing and just yells “REY!”. It was a great setup, a stormtrooper who was force sensitive but doesn’t want his life to be fighting for nothing. You could have explored trauma, the discovery of the light but nope nada. Tell me the point of his character journey. So flat and static. And with Jannah and the ex stormtroopers they could have gone with the arc of these lost, sad kids coming together to find family.
5. Leia:  Okay you’re telling me our Princess would give up on her son before he was born, just throw away her lightsaber and accept Ben’s fate? Cool alright. And she knew about Rey Palpatine and didn’t say anything...my princess would never.
6. Mary Sue Rey: Ahh Rey this girl feels no emotion in this movie...just like the audience. Sure she’s trained but she can just do stuff with the “force” that even Jedi masters can’t. Stopping a whole starship, something even Yoda could barely do...yup she can do it. Beat Kylo all the time except one, yup she can. Manipulate the force in mind-boggling ways, heal people...sure Luke couldn’t but Rey certainly can.  Cause she is the chosen one...hell even Ani wasn’t this talented and he had years of training. Poe and Finn have a genuine connection, Rey just seems disjointed (totally understandable why)...but if so the ending is even worse. She doesn’t even find peace with her friends. She’s not realistic and human like Luke and Leia were.
Force sensitivity in the galaxy:  What a perfect setup, the boy with the broom at the end of TLJ that was force sensitive. The message is that the power to use the force was spreading through the galaxy. No longer confined to the elite. People were hearing of Luke’s battle of Crate and rising.
7. Kylo/Ben: I still maintain that he, other than Ani was the most nuanced character in the whole saga. His arc from Force Awakens to Last Jedi had progressed. How great that even someone from the legendary line of skywalker and solo could fall to the dark again. He wasn’t flat, he was a tortured boy that was conflicted since the first movie. How great would it have been to see him as a conflicted supreme leader, which was set up in TLJ. But *gasps* a plot of his very own, no can do, this is the nature of JJ’s crush on Rey and Daisy.
Disney released comics that made us sympathize with him, to see that all along he was manipulated by Snoke, and Palpatine the voices in his head. Neglected by those who were supposed to love him. Adam Driver was cast perfectly, he had almost no lines that weren’t related to Rey’s charcater arc. If he were a woman I’m sure everyone would be offended. That single line’s delivery “Dad-”
Come on Poe had more lines than him, and Driver according to JJ was half of the protagonist. He was pitched an arc opposite that of Darth Vader that’s why he signed. Man JJ really did do everyone dirty.
8. Ben had no lines while redeemed other than “ow”...I am so sorry ADAM that this nasty ass JJ did this to you...this part was 100% improv by Adam, I am willing to bet my life on it. You know why “ow” was brilliant? Cause it meant he felt pain and emotion, he was no longer hiding behind the hardness of Kylo REN. Adam’s performance as Ben left me speechless, he was convincing as Kylo, intimidating...but as BEN he shines in the way only Solo’s can. The way his eyes become determined once he accepts he must give his life, and he does so happily for the love of his life. His soulmate. Star Wars and JJ never deserved the talent that is Adam Driver.
9. They are supposed to be equals in the force yet they missed the opportunity to fight Snoke together. Tell me how they are equals. He existed only to further Rey’s plotline.
Oh and the other Jedi including Anakin whisper and help Rey...when his own grandson has been asking for help in distress for like 30years. Nice real nice.
10. Finally Reylo:  it felt unearned cause there was no buildup, JJ just threw it in for kicks forgetting all the P&P parallels he was shooting for. An afterthought. Driver and Ridley’s acting saved the day, they had no lines.  Adam Driver is truly one of the finest actors. You could see the difference between Ben and Kylo in his subtle gestures...the sass was pure Han Solo.
11. And then the death: I wouldn’t even say we won, but at what cost. We won in no way. Had he died fighting I would have understood, but this death was so unnecessary and put in just for the fanboys. Let me say again I would have been okay with death had it been justified.  How is this any different than Vader x Luke. JJ can only copy not create. How crazy that you can just bring people back from the dead...Anakin is here like, am I joke to you? I could have brought Padme back say what???? What was the point of his whole fall to the dark. The force is infinite, that’s the whole point...once you know how to use it you can’t run out of it like juice. Oh, and Ben did not become one with Rey but rather the Force according to the Disney website. So why pray tell did he not appear as a force ghost? I’m convinced JJ was on crack.
12. No Mourning BEN no acknowledgment:  5 seconds! And then she moves on from losing her soulmate, half of her soul. She loses it over Chewie but nothing, no emotion not even a second over her other half. Seriously? No one ever knows Ben came back...nada. JJ set up Reylo, time and time again he has said that he crafted the story around the romance. He was left scrambling after Last Jedi and this was a last-ditch shock ending. No Reylo theme song, no across the stars
13. Last Jedi told us you don’t have to come from a powerful family to be important. THE WHOLE thing was that you could be force-sensitive and be a nobody. Nobodies can become somebody. A Hero is not born but made. The force lives in all beings, not just powerful families. It inspired me, what a great message to young guys and gals. Kylo’s line, “you come from nothing, you are nothing...you have no place in this story” finally turns out true. You have to come from something to have a part in the Star Wars story. And Rey had darkness inside her cause she was human. Because none of us are pure, we are shades of grey. But no, it’s cause darkness only runs in families. In the Last Jedi when she wants to see her family all she sees is herself and a shadow (Ben) who joins with her. Please do explain this JJ. And if this granddaughter thing was set up I would have had no problem...but they pulled it from their asses. You can have nothing but mean something. But no pander to the fanboys. In the end, a Palpatine lived and all the skywalkers ended....and we are supposed to have hope. Palpatine really did win.
14. Rey’s biggest fear was ending up in the desert alone, we were told “the belonging she seeks is ahead not behind” and “there’s someone who could still come back”. They mentioned she felt just as alone with the resistance. Only the other half of her soul understood her. This is truly tragic and sad...I am so heartbroken for her. And don’t tell me she isn’t there to stay...the soundtrack is called “a new home”. Enjoy the rest of your days being exactly where you started Rey....but hey at least you got a droid boo. I’m convinced this is not the balance JJ envisioned in the first movie. At one point in TFA Rey looks up sees an old woman alone, scavenging in the desert. This rattles her to the core and it starts her journey of wanting a better, different life. I am so sorry Rey. Okay so you may say she has the resistance and her friends...but let’s consult the last Jedi. In the end when everyone is on the ship...Rey is surrounded by friends yet looks more alone than ever. No one but Ben, maybe Luke, Leia, and Han understood her pull to the dark.
How sad that these two hopeless souls who had never known a moment of belonging and true love, found it for all but a few seconds.
I will quote: “preventing female characters with strong, compelling narratives from experiencing love, intimacy, and affection is just as regressive as reducing them down to sexual accessories. Assumes that women must choose between a romantic interest and depth of character”
Men really can not write good female characters, can they? A woman really can’t be a badass and end up with the love of her life
15. The Skywalker’s and Redemption: How truly truly sad that Han and Leia gave their life for their son who also died at a young age. ALL the Skywalkers and Solo’s have a tragic end. This is not what George Lucas wanted. What a tragic way to end this saga...they weren't able to break the curse. AND to all those troubled kids out there that lashed out and made terrible mistakes in their youth....doesn’t matter what you do dying is the only way out. You could have exiled him, made him pay in other ways. Nothing can be done to make up for your sins but death, no amount of good means that you can come home. To the young boys that get wrapped up in terror organizations, sorry the only way you can be redeemed is death...don’t bother changing and coming back. They could have exiled him, had him start an academy with Rey for Jedi kids. He could have spent the rest of his days redeeming himself. Why tell us he was literally preyed upon, haunted, and manipulated as a child. Even in a fantasy world, a victim of mental illness and abuse can not catch a break. Ben as a child could not fall asleep due to the demon-like voices in his mind. Everyone abandoned him in his time of need. Ben never desired power like Anakin, he went over to the dark because “the voice” of his grandfather promised belonging. I am shocked that this is the message Disney sends us. Oh and yeah you can totally take on the Skywalker name for kicks...the disrespect I swear
16. The worst bit is that I am 90% sure there was another ending that was scrapped.  There was a promo shot of Jannah in a field, soft lighting, lush planet. It was exactly like P&P. Daisy Ridley said the lasts scene was known to only Her, Jannah on that panel (Driver was away). Convinced Jannah was looking at Rey and Ben starting a new life away from the desert which she and Luke hate so much. Hence the production of “A New Home” soundtrack. Hence why the “Farewell” song played behind Reylo kiss was hopeful. Why Luke’s soundtrack when he became part of the force was not triumphant. Why the death scene was sudden and cut weird and no sorrow from Rey. CAUSE THEY SCRAPPED THE ORIGINAL ENDING LAST MINUTE.  Everyone knows JJ was still editing one month before. The concept art which was supposed to be released this month has been pushed to March. Why you ask? They need to remove the pages with a happy ending. He just didn’t have the guts, pandered to everyone and yet no one. He was successful in creating a beautifully filmed action-filled movie with none of the heart of Star Wars.
And then she goes and buries Anakin’s saber on freaking TATOOINE. He HATES Sand and Luke wanted to get away from there as soon as possible. Of course, a Palpatine would torture them that way. But nostalgia is the cash cow so. JJ can only generate nostalgia, not create original stories. IF he had any creativity she would have buried it at Padme’s grave.
Tumblr media
The fanboys say “leave the romance for the romance movies”....have you seen the original trilogy or the prequels? Star Wars has always had hope and romance entwined with it.
SO AFTER 40 YEARS...PALPATINE WINS...HIS BLOODLINE LIVES ON
...and people thought the prequels were bad
JJ you also said that your goal was for people to come out of the movie feeling more hopeful and happy then they went in...yet here I am. My roommate literally had to console me and buy me ice cream. I am just so numb. I am sure the casual fan will enjoy this, as seen from the rotten tomatoes ratings. I think the critics were too generous with this one,
Star Wars is very simple at its core, Good vs Bad and Dark vs Light. The kids are expected to understand that a Palpatine being the only one who lives is hopeful? That is the conclusion of three generations of Skywalker sacrifice...
This is how the Skywalkers are remembered...In Tragedy and Curse??

The Wall

As the men who turned on the Jedi Order and killed them without mercy. He wants to change that, and with the help of his old commander and their new friends, they can finally do it. They can finally tell their story to the galaxy and have them learn of the bravery and the pain that the clones went through to save them from any harm. It doesn't matter if it's fifty years later. He owes it to them. “Do it brother. Make them remember us.” They said. And Kix listened and made his brothers proud.
