people Luci Butler turns three today so we must not forget to credit her mother (and best friend) in a world where it seems moms get no recognition for being superhuman.

user12 imagine using a 3 year olds bday to make some political womens movement statement. mom’s get plenty of recognition.
butlerfamupdates I actually applaud People Magazine for this. All day magazine’s have posted Austin’s cutest moments with Luci and talked about what a wonderful Dad he is - which no one would ever doubt to think he is - but Luci’s mom is very much present as well and deserves love too. Luci loves both her parents. It’s normal for a kid to have favorites, it doesn’t make the other parent ‘bad.’
ccgfan Y/N and Luci sharing their love for open water together and creating sea shell necklaces i cry

The antis have been all over my posts in the last few days, so I wanted to share my experiences and write a guide on how to deal with them.
First off: Our ships and character preferences are valid, no matter how hard some people try to demonize them. We are part of fandom and allowed to post about the things we enjoy, just like everyone else. Our fanfics, fanart, video edits, photo edits, etc. are all works of love and they deserve to exist and be explored by others.
✨ Strategies for dealing with antis ✨
Don’t engage. I have checked the bios of all the antis that left comments under my posts, and the majority of them are minors. You don’t want to talk to minors in fandom spaces!! And a conversation based on logic or reason won’t be possible either.
Delete their comments. Tumblr, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube allow you to delete comments, DO IT!! You created something with love and hateful comments have no place underneath it. Even if the comment just makes you uncomfortable and isn’t outright hateful, it is perfectly reasonable to delete it for your own sanity.
Block generously. Not only the people who target you specifically but also anyone who engages in character- or ship-bashing. People who do that for one ship will do it for other ships too and it’s extremely bad fandom etiquette. When you see a character or ship-bashing post, block everyone who liked it and then the poster.
Report people for harassment. The rules vary by site, but especially threats of violence should be reported. Also, if someone follows you to another social media site after you’ve blocked them, that is called block evading and you should report that too.
When you see other people getting hateful comments underneath their posts, leave a nice comment to offset some of the negativity. Your being supportive can make the difference between this person never posting again and them being motivated to keep going. People are always welcome to send me links to a post that is getting targeted by antis and I’ll like it and leave a nice comment. 🥰
Don’t let the bad comments outshine the positive ones! Every time my post gets enough traction for antis to find it, it also gets lots of lovely reactions. Many people have told me that my content and recommendations made them ship my OTP, and that is the single thing that makes me happier than anything else. Take a screenshot and look at these kinds of comments when you feel down. This is the real reason you should keep posting.
Most hate comments are exceptionally uncreative. It helps to laugh about it, preferably with a friend. ✨ Remember, you used your energy to create something and you should be proud of it!
When you see a creator you like, but they also display obnoxious behavior towards people who like other ships, characters, or dynamics, at the very least don’t give them a platform by sharing their posts.
Stay safe. Don’t post personal information online.
It’s completely valid to step away from social media for some time. Private your accounts, turn off notifications, do a canon reread, read some fanfics in peace. Whatever it takes to remind you why you love the things you love.
Bonus Tip: Watch videos of cute animals to destress. Bunnies nose-booping each other can (and will) cure anti-induced anxiety. :)
✨ Platforms sorted by least to most toxic and my advice for using them ✨
1. Discord
Discord is great because you can join servers specifically for your favorite characters and ships. If a server doesn’t already exist, consider setting one up! Pro tip: only invite people that have positively interacted with you in the past. A small server consisting of nice people is a lot more fun than a large server consisting of members that can’t get along or are only marginally interested in the topic.
Fandom Discord servers have clear guidelines on what you can post. As long as you follow the rules, people have no grounds for calling you out. In my experience, moderators are quick to respond to harassment.
When you join a server and you see they heavily restrict certain types of content, it is a red flag. Proceed with caution, even if you plan to only talk about “safe” characters and ships.
2. Tumblr
I have rarely gotten hateful comments on Tumblr, and the few times I did they were easy to delete.
A lot of the older fandom generations use Tumblr and they are more mature and accepting of all kinds of content.
3. Twitter
Twitter makes it easy to curate your own fandom experience. You can mute words you don’t like to see on your timeline, mute and block users, and most people have their ship preferences in their bio.
4. Instagram
My Instagram posts about Jadecest get a lot of positive interaction, even more than on Twitter. There are unpleasant comments once in a while, but they are easy to delete.
Blocking a user will delete all their comments from your posts.
5. YouTube
People who don’t like your ship will downvote your videos and downvotes lead to the algorithm not recommending your videos.
I have gotten a few negative comments, but they are easy to delete.
6. Reddit
When you post in a fandom subreddit, everyone will see the post, independent of their ship preferences.
There are a lot of minors on Reddit.
You can’t delete comments.
Most fandom subreddits are poorly moderated.
7. TikTok
I have gotten the most hate comments on TikTok. They can be filtered or deleted, but antis interacting with your video by leaving hate comments will lead to the algorithm recommending your content to even more antis. It can get very ugly.
If you post on TikTok consider turning off comments, stitches, and video replies. You can also mark your content as 18+, so it won’t get recommended to minors. (Again, antis tend to be underage.)
Platforms are more toxic the more they show your content to people outside your bubble. Discord, Tumblr, and Twitter keep your content relatively well contained to your circle of friends. Reddit, TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram heavily promote your content outside your bubble, which is good, because more people are going to see it, but also bad, because it reaches more antis.
~~~
Antis are loud and obnoxious, but it’s important to remember that they are a minority. Ship and let ship still exists, especially among the people who have been in fandom spaces for more than just a few years. Don’t be afraid to post your content and express your love for your favorite characters and ships! I, for one, would love to see your creations, and many other people would love to see them too.
What are your experiences and strategies for dealing with antis?
boyfriend. KSN
content : what it’s like to have sunoo as your bf ♡
warnings : none (FLUFF)
a/n : just sunoo being the softest bf ever
dating sunoo is like having a constant source of happiness and love in your life.
one of the best things about having sunoo as a boyfriend is his infectious positive energy. he has a contagious smile and a bright personality.
1. he’s the type to have spontaneous hang out : Sunoo suggests having a picnic in the park one sunny afternoon. you both pack some sandwiches, fruits, and a blanket, and head to the nearby park. you spend the afternoon lounging on the blanket, sharing food, and chatting about anything and everything. Sunoo surprises you with a bouquet of your favorite flowers, making the day even more special.
2. the one to always have a movie night : rather just a movie together when he gets the chance. you both decide to have a cozy movie night at home. Sunoo takes charge of choosing the movie and makes sure there are plenty of snacks and drinks. as you cuddle up on the couch, he can't help but pepper your face with kisses during the romantic scenes.
3. stargazing: sunoo surprises you with a stargazing date. he sets up a comfortable spot for the two of you to lay under the stars. as you gaze up at the night sky, Sunoo points out the constellations and tells you their stories. it’s a peaceful and romantic night under the stars.
4. would always treat you : sunoo treats you to a spa day, with massages, facials, and a relaxing hot tub. you both wear fluffy robes and sip on herbal tea while getting pampered. Sunoo can't stop complimenting how beautiful you look, making you feel like a million bucks.
5. cuddles : oh sunoo is the type of bf that always clings around you, so he loves cuddling. wrapping his arms around you and pulling you closer, whispering sweet nothings in your ear. soft and sweet “i love yous” followed with a cute giggles. he’s not afraid to shower you with love and attention, and will make sure that you feel cherished and appreciated everyday.
6. a caring one : you’re always his top priority no matter what, whether you’re down or just feeling unwell, he’s always there for you to support and take care of you. he would always put your needs above his own and will do anything to see you smile.
7. would fangirl with you : we all know that sunoo is a fan of most groups, he’s the type to support the group with you. whether buying merchandises or even going to the concert together. would unbox an album with you and would be excited to see whose photocard he will pull.
8. the type to be sassy on you some times but would be so protective when a guy randomly flirts with you : a guy approached you at the cafe, asking for your name and number. sunoo rolled his eyes and scoffed as he look away, the guy has just mistook him as your “bestfriend”. “yah, she’s taken. back off or i’ll pull your hair just to leave her alone” he said to the guy in a feisty way. you chuckles as the guy left, “you’re so sassy and feisty”.
9. he likes to take a picture of you as always : his phone is full of his face and mostly yours, even if you’re just sleeping, washing the dishes, or even laughing. he had those all. he would definitely create an instagram account just full of your faces and your picture together. would put “sunoo’s love” to that account’s bio.
10. a great listener and a big comfort : in times of trouble or stress, sunoo will be always there for you no matter what. no matter how small or big the situation is. he knows the right words to say to reassure you. he’ll hold you close and remind you that everything will be okay. with him by your side, you know you can conquer anything that comes your way.
in conclusion, having a boyfriend like sunoo is like having your own personal sunshine. he brings warmth and happiness into your life and makes every moment together feels like a fairytale. he’s the kind of boyfriend you always have dreamed of, and you feel lucky to have him by your side.
content after the cut
You let out a soft sigh as you grabbed your bag and stood from your desk. You were contemplating changing your major as you made your way out of the classroom, digging through your bag to find your phone. You loved learning new concepts and trying new things but the technique you were learning this week was one you’d never appreciated. You didn’t hate it per se, but you definitely avoided that style. It just didn’t speak to you.
You finally found your phone and began scrolling through your notifications as you made your way towards your favorite food truck. You made a confused face when you saw an Instagram notification from right after your class started. You clicked on it and were greeted with a page full of photos that screamed music major. “Who the fuck is this?” You didn’t bother to go through his pictures, choosing instead to scan his bio for any indication that you knew him. All you came up with was that you attended the same university and shared some mutual friends. He was cute from what you could see so you shrugged and approved the follow request, pocketing your phone as you reached your destination.
You placed your order and stepped to the side, turning to survey the quad. It was a beautiful day and everyone seemed to be taking advantage of it. Maybe inspiration would strike if you sat and people-watched for a bit.
You heard your name a few minutes later and gave a polite smile as you took your food, then scurried off towards your favorite tree. Campus staff had placed a massive wooden lawn chair and some fairy lights under that tree and it always felt so cozy. Plus, you had the best vantage point from there. You could almost see the entire quad from that one spot and you often found yourself sketching study groups there. Today would be slightly different since you were trying something new, but you found a sense of comfort as you settled into the chair and happily munched on your lunch.
As soon as you’d finished eating, you grabbed your sketch pad and pencil and allowed your gaze to sweep across the open field. It was teeming with life so all you had to do was choose someone and start sketching. You shook your head and chose a stationary subject first, needing to build up the courage to locate someone you’d consider asking to model for you.
Your eyes settled on a petite young woman who was seated a few yards away, sipping on coffee with her nose in a book. She almost seemed out of place here given how regal she appeared. Her posture was perfect, shoulders squared and back straight, and her hair fell over her shoulders in romantic waves. She was a picturesque beauty.
You began drawing, allowing your pencil to glide along the paper and create a version of the woman that you felt did her justice. It was far from perfect but you were certain no artist could truly capture her beauty so you gave yourself some grace. You were adding more detail when she began to pack up her things. You let out a soft sigh, knowing you’d likely never see the goddess again and this was as far as you’d get with this sketch. You flipped the page and decided to take a different approach as you spotted two men throwing a frisbee. Both were attractive, though one had a more athletic build.
You focused on the athletic one and took mental notes on the way his body moved as you began to draw him. First, you sketched out the general shape of his body as he twisted in preparation to throw the disk, then you began to add more details. You focused on the way his clothing fell and the way the midday sunlight bounced off his caramel brown hair, getting a strange sense of familiarity as you scrawled notes in the margins on the colors you’d incorporate when you got the chance.
You watched him closely as you tried to find another position to sketch him in, perking up instantly when you caught him with his arm outstretched, the frisbee leaving his hand. He was smiling brightly, displaying the most adorable dimples, and your heart sped up for a moment. You quickly began to sketch, memorizing as much detail as possible before he moved too much.
You gulped but drew even more frantically when he lifted his shirt to wipe the beads of sweat rolling down his face, revealing a six pack and prominent v-line. His proportions were perfect and if you weren’t so flustered by how attractive he was, you’d ask him to model for you. He was exactly what you needed for this project.
That strange familiarity came creeping back in as you drew but it was only when you made brief eye contact that you recognized him. He was the owner of the mystery account who’d requested to follow you less than an hour ago. You frantically looked away and continued drawing, praying he wouldn’t have anything to say when he undoubtedly recognized you from your photos.
You thought you were in the clear when he didn’t approach you after about five minutes but just when the thought crossed your mind, your luck ran out and the frisbee came flying at your head. You ducked your head quickly and listened as the disk crashed into the tree behind you.
“Felix, your arm fuckin’ sucks, bro!” Your breath caught in your throat when your unwitting model’s Australian accent reached your ears as he jogged towards you.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” Called the man who’d lobbed the plastic at your head - Felix, as you’d gleaned from hearing the athletic man mocking him. He looked panicked, hands covering his mouth as he watched from where he was frozen in place. He was just as pretty and you certainly wouldn’t mind him modeling for you sometime. He had a wholesome, warm appearance.
“Sorry about him, he’s usually not such a klutz.” Your mystery man flashed a smile as he rounded your chair, taking a glance at your work as he reached down behind you.
“Ah- no, it’s not a problem. I wasn’t paying much attention.” You offered up a shy smile before looking back down to your paper. You didn’t notice him studying your pad as he retrieved the disk so you were startled when he attempted conversation as he righted himself.
“You sure about that?” He chuckled softly as he leaned over your shoulder to get a closer look and you froze. “Looks like you were paying plenty of attention.” He teased as he studied your art. Who was he and why was he so comfortable? Your heart was thumping and you wanted to vanish. “You an art major?” He asked as he stood straight once more and came around the chair to properly look at you. He was still closer to you than a stranger should be but at least you could breathe again.
Your cheeks were flaming red at being caught and you simply nodded as you began to gather your things in a rush. “I am. Sorry, this is probably really weird for you. I should-”
“What? No! This is really flattering. I don’t know a whole lot about art but you did an amazing job. Can I take a look at some of your other stuff sometime?” You froze once more but his blinding smile won against your nerves and you found yourself nodding. “Great! Can I get your number to get in touch? Or is Instagram better?”
“Ah, so you recognized me…” You let out a single huff of air that somewhat resembled a laugh as you closed your book.
“Of course I did. It’s not often I come across such a beautiful woman.” His dimples appeared once more as your cheeks went pink and your jaw dropped slightly, a smile slowly taking over your face. “Here.” He handed you his phone and you took it slowly, trying to collect yourself and remember how to use your thumbs to type your number out. When you passed it back, his fingers ghosted over yours and you retreated quickly as his smile faded into something far more flirtatious. “Thanks, I’ll text you. I’m Chan, by the way.”
“Y/n…” You murmured, enraptured by the man before you. You were dumbfounded at the way he spoke so comfortably and seemed to take an interest in you. This man was Adonis and was looking at you with an unbelievable level of interest.
“Pleased to meet you, y/n.” He began to back away as he pocketed his phone, his carefully crafted confident facade beginning to crumble, revealing a giddy young man who was thrilled to have gotten a girl’s number so easily. “I’ll let you get back to it. But do try and get my left side. That’s my good side.” He winked and you involuntarily rolled your eyes as a smile finally appeared on your lips as he made his way back to his friend with a triumphant grin.
————————————————
Your phone buzzed just after 6pm that night and you froze at the unfamiliar number.
Hi pretty 👋🏻 it’s Chan. How are you?
You quickly saved his number before responding.
hiii i’m good how are you
Much better now that I’m talking to you 😉
You were at a loss for words but he quickly sent another message.
I’d be even better if I could take you to get coffee in the near future. Are you free next weekend? Say Saturday at 11am?
You felt a jolt of anxiety shock your body but shook it off. You’d never grow as a person if you continued to shrink away from people who wanted to get to know you. Plus, he was cute. Which is why we’re anxious, dumbass. This isn’t about human connection, this is about a beautiful man flirting with you. You shook your head and typed out a response.
i think i can manage that 😆
Perfect! I’m thrilled to see you and your amazing work. 😌
————————————————
The coffee date had gone smoothly, with Chan gushing about your work and lighting up like a neon sign when you asked him to model for you. He’d been so flattered and excited that you’d asked and had immediately set up a time for you to draw him. After you’d gotten home, you texted him with more details, including where to meet and what he should wear.
Now, he was standing in your living room and you were circling him with one arm crossed over your middle while you drummed your fingers of the opposite hand against your chin. He was fighting the urge to shift around under your scrutiny and let out a tiny sigh of relief when you stopped in front of him with a smile. “I think I have an idea.”
“Have your way with me.” He grinned, ears going red when you stared at him somewhat surprised by his words. “Uh- I just- h-how do you want me to pose? That’s what I meant…”
You laughed at his flush and shook your head. “Don’t make it weird.” You warned playfully as you pushed him towards your bedroom. You had a daybed with warm-toned sheets and pillows and knew instantly that it was the perfect backdrop. “Come on, I know what I’m gonna do with you.” He seemed to grow more flustered as he processed where you were guiding him and you almost laughed again.
Over the last few weeks, you’d grown quite comfortable with him but he seemed a little less outspoken. He was still very flirtatious but in a more genuine, careful way. He didn’t come on as strong as he did at first. While getting to know each other, you’d come to realize he was a kind man with a lot of love to give the world and a strong sense of self, not just your typical college kid. Most of your late night conversations were deep, thought-provoking, emotional discussions about life where you could see his soul was just as beautiful as his exterior. So while he certainly had his moments of being just some guy, he saved his perverted humor for his friends and kept most things with you pretty PG and entirely sincere.
When you reached your room, you nudged him towards the bed and turned to set up your easel. “Take off your shirt and socks and get on the bed.” He hesitated at first and was on the verge of sputtering some shy response when you turned back with your bottom lip poking out. “Oh come onnnn.” You whined cutely, further exaggerating your pout. “It’s for class.” Your pout was quickly replaced with a little grin as you grabbed your canvas and placed it on the easel. “Plus, it’s not like I haven’t already seen your body before.”
“Right.” He cleared his throat and began to unbutton his shirt. You watched him in your peripheral vision as you continued to set everything up and had an idea.
“Actually, hold on.” You stopped him as he began to slide the linen off his muscular shoulders and he slowly put it back in place. “Just leave it open like that, that’s perfect.” You smiled as your vision fully came to you. “Socks off and get in the middle of the bed.”
He followed your instructions while watching you scurry off to your en suite bathroom to fill a cup with water. When you returned, he was sitting almost awkwardly in the center of your bed and you chuckled softly. You approached him wordlessly and knelt beside him to arrange your pillows so they were nestled in the right corner. You gestured for him to recline and stood back once he was slumped. He wasn’t lying down, he was simply sprawled across your mattress at an angle.
“Okay, bring your right knee up and sort of prop on your left elbow.” You watched as he complied and scrutinized his positioning for a moment before crawling back onto the bed. “I’m gonna make some adjustments.”
You noticed his flush creeping down his neck as you adjusted his open shirt how you wanted it to lay. “Put your hand like this.” You instructed as you demonstrated how you wanted his hand to rest across his bare torso and he complied. “And relax your left leg a bit. I want you to almost lay like Adam in Creation of Adam.”
“I think I get where you’re going with this.” He nodded, a tiny grin settling on his lips. You lifted a brow as you waited for his guess and instantly rolled your eyes when he spoke again. “You’re trying to tell me I’m a classic beauty.”
“Yes, but no.” You laughed softly as you shook your head. “Look over there.” You pointed to where you’d be sitting and made some final adjustments to his shirt as he followed your instructions. You noticed him forcing his breathing to remain steady and his flush reaching his chest as your fingers accidentally brushed against the waistband of his cream colored linen pants.
You didn’t allow yourself to worry over how you’d just touched him or to get flustered at the effect your proximity was having on him and pushed ahead, reaching to fix his hair. You adjusted a single curl and brushed a few strands away from his eyes before your gazes met and you lost the battle to remain calm. Your cheeks went a soft pink as he smiled up at you. “Hi.”
“Hi.” You whispered back, smiling back at him and allowing your fingertips to trail down the side of his face. Seeing him this close made you even more certain of your decision to cast him as your model. His skin was flawless and his bone structure was heavenly. He truly was a god among men. And his lips…
“You’re staring.” He whispered, his smile slipping away as he noticed the way your eyes locked on his full lips.
“I’m not…” You refuted his claim but still couldn’t look away.
“You are.” His face grew redder and you thought he might kiss you but he didn’t dare move after you’d finally gotten him perfectly positioned. It was almost maddening.
“I’m not.” You finally looked towards his eyes and found him staring at your lips as well. “You are.”
“Can’t help it. You have pretty lips.” He slowly met your gaze and something in you snapped. You’d been wanting him to kiss you for a couple weeks and he hadn’t so you took matters into your own hands.
When your lips met his, he hesitated. Not because he wasn’t interested, but because he was surprised that you’d initiated it. You’d given him the impression that you wanted him to take the lead and he wanted to be careful with you so he hadn’t dared to do more than hold your hand. But now your lips were on his and he was in the clouds.
He slowly brought his hand up to cup your face without disturbing the careful placement of his shirt and allowed his lips to move against yours. Your heart was racing at how slow and sweet the moment was. It felt like the stars had aligned and you found yourself smiling against his lips. “I’ve wanted to do that for a little while now.” You whispered and began to pull back.
“Me too. I’ve been trying to take it slow with you though. Didn’t wanna move too fast and risk scaring you off.” He explained quietly, not really letting you move as his hand slipped to the back of your neck. “So come back here, we’ve got a couple weeks of lost time to make up for.” He teased as he chased your lips.
“You did the exact opposite. You were driving me mad wondering what exactly was happening between us.” You laughed softly before allowing him to kiss you again. His lips felt perfect against yours and you knew instantly that you’d quickly become addicted.
It couldn’t have been more than three minutes of sharing chaste kisses but it felt much longer and you frowned a bit when you finally came up for air. “Unfortunately, I’ve got to get to work now or you’ll be stuck waiting here until late into the night.”
“I could wait an eternity for you, babe.” He winked before immediately cringing. You couldn’t help but laugh loudly at the face he pulled and he took a moment to admire your joyful expression before shaking his head. “That was so cheesy, I’m sorry.” He chuckled and settled back into his previous position. “Work your magic.”
“For the record,” you started as you stood and studied him once more. “I love little pet names like that.” You hummed, making your way to your canvas. “So I’d really like it if you continued to use them.”
“Of course, baby girl. But don’t be surprised if I rarely use your real name then.” He grinned and relaxed his hand, allowing his fingers to splay out against his stomach.
“I’ll hold you to that. Now give me an emotionally tortured smolder.” You smiled to yourself at his soft laugh and began to sketch out the god of a man lounging on your bed.
MERROCK TASK #20 SOCIAL MEDIA
at what age did your character start using social media? Growing up, Cage wasn't super into social media. If anything, he got it to stay in touch with family and friends after high school when he hit the road.
did their parents monitor their use, if they were young? No. He doubts that his dad even checked his social media, unless one of his siblings ratted him out.
has your character ever had fake identities or accounts online? Nope, thought never crossed his mind.
no shame: do they remember myspace? did they use it? He remembers MySpace, but he didn't really use it. He had an account and set it up and sometimes he'd check in, but... to use it? Not regularly, no.
who would be in their top eight today? Cordelia, Colton, Kellan, Elliot, Ashley, Lucie, Elise, Chase.
what social media platforms do they use today? Instagram and Facebook.
do they have public profiles, or go private? Private. Cage shares a lot of photos of his kids and doesn't want to put their faces out there a lot to strangers, especially Rosalyn, and wanting to be careful with her having a scumbag bio dad out there somewhere.
how about their following? are they pretty lowkey, or do they have a decent following? Despite the private accounts, he has a decent amount of followers, just because he's the kind of guy who knows everyone, and everyone knows him.
do they tend to pick obvious usernames, ones with sentimental value, funny things? how do they decide? It's literally always just 'cagenewman' across all the platforms that he uses. One, it's easy to find him, and two, it's easy for him to remember.
profile pictures: the same across all platforms? Yes, and it very rarely ends up getting changed.
and just what profile pictures do they use? Sometimes a selfie, sometimes a photo with his wife and kids. Right now, it's a shot of Cage and Cordelia in Kennebunkport after they got married.
what kind of bio writer are they? silly, cute, sweet, or just basic? Dumb, normally, something like. "Wood-worker, dad, part-time moose." He always sounds like a father would sound writing a bio on social media.
how much time per day would you say that your character spends on social media? Not a whole lot of time, he'll browse casually in the morning, during a lunch break, probably at night on and off.
is there one platform that they visit more than others? Instagram.
if they have kids, do they use social media? how do they feel about that? if not, and they want kids, will they let them use it someday? It terrifies the hell out of him, but Colton has an Instagram and Facebook account. There are very strict rules, though -- Cage has to be able to follow him on all accounts, and he is allowed to ask him to look at his messages at any point in time to make sure that he isn't doing something he shouldn't be. (He's never had to.)
be honest: have they ever created an account for something else, like a hobby, or… to try to make their cat internet famous? No, he can barely keep up with the ones he has.
do they run any professional or business accounts? Technically. Creekside has an Instagram and Facebook page for business. Cage and one of his workers has access to it, so he helps run it when he remembers to.
have they ever left a social media platform (or more than one) for any specific reason? He's left a lot of social media platforms, since normally he has FOMO and tries them and then remembers that he's not big on social media... and leaves. He did delete X recently, though, when he felt Elon tanked it.
do they plan on using social media into their older ages? Probably, someone has to make sure the kids are behaving.
have they ever made any long-lasting friendships through social media? He wouldn't necessarily say that he has made long-lasting friendships, but he has sustained friendships through social media. He's still friends with guys that he worked with years and years ago, when he first started out in construction.
or on the flip side, gotten into any big social media beef? This is primarily the reason why Cage doesn't get involved, he doesn't want there to be beef. He's argued with people about politics on Facebook, though.
have they ever felt negatively impacted by social media as a user? Not really, no.
who is their favorite person / account to follow on social media? Willie Nelson.
would they say that social media has had an overall more positive or negative impact on the world? Somewhere in the middle. It's hard to deny that social media has done some really great things for the world, but he wonders if they would have found a way to do those things without it, too, and does miss when things were simpler.
and finally: a/s/l? (and do they know what that means?) 38/M/ME. He knows what it is, embarrassingly enough. Not necessarily from social media, but it was still a thing when dating and hook-up apps started to become a big thing.
MERROCK TASK #20 SOCIAL MEDIA
at what age did your character start using social media? Nari started using social media post-high school, when she was in college and it was just becoming popular. She rode the wave of Facebook and got to experience all of the new ones as the cropped up along the way.
did their parents monitor their use, if they were young? If anything, Nari probably needs to monitor her parents' use of social media, to make sure that they do it all right.
has your character ever had fake identities or accounts online? No!
no shame: do they remember myspace? did they use it? She does, and she did! She even had the goofy little cartoon dolls on her page and everything. Plus, music.
who would be in their top eight today? That's a tough one! Probably just a random selection of friends, or she'd end up finding internet famous cats and adding them, so no one got hurt feelings of where they fell in order.
what social media platforms do they use today? Nari uses the usual -- Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, X, whatever, she just doesn't always use them religiously.
do they have public profiles, or go private? Public.
how about their following? are they pretty lowkey, or do they have a decent following? Somewhere in between; she's nowhere near famous on social media, but she also wouldn't consider herself a 'no one' and ends up having a lot of followers from around town, between the nursery, her fashion work, and the yoga studio. Plus, just being a friendly gal.
do they tend to pick obvious usernames, ones with sentimental value, funny things? how do they decide? Pretty much always the same thing: narilily or narigim, or some sort of combination of those names, it's pretty obvious it's her, which makes her easier to find, and that works.
profile pictures: the same across all platforms? The same!
and just what profile pictures do they use? It's normally a selfie involving flowers in some way.
what kind of bio writer are they? silly, cute, sweet, or just basic? It normally involves a lot of emojis. Nari's bios tend to be more sweet than anything else, though! Cute little sentimental things, that kind of vibe.
how much time per day would you say that your character spends on social media? A decent amount, but not an unhealthy amount!
is there one platform that they visit more than others? Probably Instagram, it keeps her the busiest.
if they have kids, do they use social media? how do they feel about that? if not, and they want kids, will they let them use it someday? Nari does not have kids, and doesn't really plan to have kids, but she would definitely at least do a little monitoring when it comes to what they use it for and who they interact with.
be honest: have they ever created an account for something else, like a hobby, or… to try to make their cat internet famous? Nope!
do they run any professional or business accounts? She is working on starting up a social media account for her sewing and seamstress work, to show off what she's created for her brand name. Slow moving!
have they ever left a social media platform (or more than one) for any specific reason? She sort of ducked out of X, but still catches up with the news now and then on that platform.
do they plan on using social media into their older ages? Nari will use social media until social media no longer exists.
have they ever made any long-lasting friendships through social media? Yes! Nari's made friends with a lot of florists who share their work on social media, which has been kind of fun to watch them grow over time.
or on the flip side, gotten into any big social media beef? No more than usual, she's normally pretty good at dismissing herself from the conversation if things start getting heated.
have they ever felt negatively impacted by social media as a user? Sure, now and then. If she's going through a low period in her life, she knows to avoid doom scrolling, though.
who is their favorite person / account to follow on social media? The above mentioned florists, for sure.
would they say that social media has had an overall more positive or negative impact on the world? Probably positive, it's brought a lot of people together for a lot of good reasons, and it's hard to dismiss that.
and finally: a/s/l? (and do they know what that means?) 41/F/Maine, and of course she does, she was around when it was a big deal!
MERROCK TASK #20
SOCIAL MEDIA
at what age did your character start using social media?
sometime in middle school, so 12 or 13
did their parents monitor their use, if they were young?
they certainly tried. there were parental controls on the family desktop but there were also ways to get around it without them knowing. but it wasn’t for lack of trying!
has your character ever had fake identities or accounts online?
wasn’t everyone in AOL chat rooms pretending to be 18 at 13? she also absolutely has a burner she uses for FBI activities
no shame: do they remember myspace? did they use it?
she lived on MySpace! the dramaaaaaa! high school would not have been the same without it.
who would be in their top eight today?
Stelly, Livvy, Mandy, Jamie, Nari, her sister, and her closest cousins
what social media platforms do they use today?
Instagram and TikTok mostly, Tumblr sometimes, the salon technically has a Facebook page but it’s only updated as needed for important info
do they have public profiles, or go private?
everything in her name is public, nothing to hide here
how about their following? are they pretty lowkey, or do they have a decent following?
she has a decent following due to the salon and roxie each having their own pages but nothing crazy
do they tend to pick obvious usernames, ones with sentimental value, funny things? how do they decide?
when she was younger, her usernames were out there and creative. these days most are simple and a variation of her name. something along the lines of “xsylcuenco” or “sylviacb”
profile pictures: the same across all platforms?
Nope. Every app has a vibe, your profile photo should match the vibe
and just what profile pictures do they use?
selfies and they are updated often for her pages, the salon page has the salon logo
what kind of bio writer are they? silly, cute, sweet, or just basic?
depends on the season of life, she changes her bios often, sometimes it’s even just emojis
how much time per day would you say that your character spends on social media?
too much. she scrolls first thing in the morning and last thing at night, plus her job requires advertising on socials sooo… a lot. between clients, she’s usually scrolling.
is there one platform that they visit more than others?
TikTok, hands down
if they have kids, do they use social media? how do they feel about that? if not, and they want kids, will they let them use it someday?
Roxie has an Instagram, does that count? that’s the closest to a child she’ll ever have so it’s not a huge concern for her, personally
be honest: have they ever created an account for something else, like a hobby, or... to try to make their cat internet famous?
both the salon and Roxie’s pages started out for fun so you can say so
do they run any professional or business accounts?
the salon has both an Instagram and TikTok
have they ever left a social media platform (or more than one) for any specific reason?
she used to be on Twitter a lot more, these days it’s more broken than anything so she rarely checks it
do they plan on using social media into their older ages?
she can’t function without it so she doesn’t see that changing
have they ever made any long-lasting friendships through social media?
yes, she’s been deep on social media long enough not to have. some of those friendships have even made it to real life.
or on the flip side, gotten into any big social media beef?
see high school MySpace drama.
have they ever felt negatively impacted by social media as a user?
Sylvia’s reputation probably wouldn’t have suffered as much as it did the way that social media allowed for gossip to spread but in her mid-20s, all of that became irrelevant so looking back, it just toughened her up
who is their favorite person / account to follow on social media?
she follows lots of celebrities and influencers, it’s tough to pick just one
would they say that social media has had an overall more positive or negative impact on the world?
these days, it is positive. social media has allowed her to build her client base and therefore her business much quicker than it would have otherwise
and finally: a/s/l? (and do they know what that means?)
32/F/ME - duh!
Nope. Kristi has always trusted Alec to use his better judgment and be responsible, even when she shouldn’t have to be completely honest
Nope
no shame: do they remember myspace? did they use it?
Absolutely, MySpace was a golden opportunity as a musician of his genre in the early/mid 2000s
what social media platforms do they use today?
Instagram, Facebook. the band does also have pages on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok that he manages and he has a tattoo Instagram separate from his personal account as well
do they have public profiles, or go private?
both, depending on platform. but most are public as he’s a public figure with a substantial following
how about their following? are they pretty lowkey, or do they have a decent following?
the band pages and his tattoo page alone have thousands of followers each, he’s in the hundreds of thousands range on his public personal page
No kids. No kids planned. He’s pretty much of the mindset of teaching kids to be responsible and to stay out of adult spaces
be honest: have they ever created an account for something else, like a hobby, or... to try to make their cat internet famous?
he didn’t create it but his first band ever started getting recognition from popularity of their music on MySpace, every band he has been in since has had a similar approach on whatever platform is the go-to at the time
do they run any professional or business accounts?
yes, he personally manages socials for Unknown Destination and he has separate accounts for his tattooing
have they ever left a social media platform (or more than one) for any specific reason?
he’s old enough to have left platforms simply because they’re dying and it’s onto the next
do they plan on using social media into their older ages?
probably, he doesn’t see himself stopping music anytime soon and socials help a lot with networking in the music business as well as finding clients in tattooing
have they ever made any long-lasting friendships through social media?
yes, he has connected with other musicians or tattoo artists over social media before, including larger, more well known artists he has had the privlage to have worked with as a result
or on the flip side, gotten into any big social media beef?
not really, he tends to stay in his lane and to himself
MERROCK TASK #20 SOCIAL MEDIA
at what age did your character start using social media? Very, very young. Ryder can remember being on social media long before he was supposed to be, but in a lot of ways, it was how he stayed in touch with everyone he knew, since he was on the road so much, and barely at home.
did their parents monitor their use, if they were young? Absolutely not, he doesn't think either of them knew (or cared) about what he was doing online at any age.
has your character ever had fake identities or accounts online? All the time. He'd never dream of doing it now, but he used to create fake accounts a lot.
no shame: do they remember myspace? did they use it? Ryder's a little bit too young for MySpace, but he knows what it was and has heard all of the stories, both good and bad.
who would be in their top eight today? Greyson, Iris, Jayla, Amina, Miranda, Harley, two flavors of the week...
what social media platforms do they use today? Pretty much all of them, but that doesn't mean he uses them super actively. Sometimes it's just logging in, checking it, and logging back out.
do they have public profiles, or go private? Public.
how about their following? are they pretty lowkey, or do they have a decent following? It's beyond decent; for a pretty long time, Ryder had a high number of followers because he became known as 'that guy that paints shirtless on Instagram' which definitely won him more than a few fans. It's backed off a little bit now that he's stopped doing that as much, but he still has a very, very large amount of followers, yeah.
do they tend to pick obvious usernames, ones with sentimental value, funny things? how do they decide? Nope, just obvious. It's "owenryder" across all platforms, he likes to make sure that he's easy to find, even if he detests the name 'Owen,' it still feels like a nice shout out to his folks. For whatever reason.
profile pictures: the same across all platforms? The same -- again, it's a recognizability thing, he likes to make sure that people can find him when they go looking for him. Online, anyway.
and just what profile pictures do they use? Hot selfies. Duh.
what kind of bio writer are they? silly, cute, sweet, or just basic? Very basic, he's not the kind of person who feels the need to slap in a Bible verse or anything about himself, he just lets his content speak for itself and if people want to follow, great.
how much time per day would you say that your character spends on social media? Way, way too much time. He wakes up, grabs his phone, scrolls through. Checks it while having breakfast, checks it on his breaks (or downtime), hangs out on it while watching TV, eating dinner, before bed... it's just kind of there.
is there one platform that they visit more than others? Probably Instagram, but he spends a decent amount of time on TikTok, too.
if they have kids, do they use social media? how do they feel about that? if not, and they want kids, will they let them use it someday? No, and probably not something he has to worry about.
be honest: have they ever created an account for something else, like a hobby, or… to try to make their cat internet famous? His art, yes. Although he posts some pieces on his personal account, Ryder does have a business/hobby account where he posts stuff specifically related to painting. Not everyone wants to see his Porsche, after all. Even if they're missing out.
do they run any professional or business accounts? Just the aforementioned art one.
have they ever left a social media platform (or more than one) for any specific reason? He doesn't use Twitter/X as much as he used to back before it was all... like it is now.
do they plan on using social media into their older ages? Yeah, why not? There's no age limit to being social.
have they ever made any long-lasting friendships through social media? He has, he had a lot of online friendships when he was traveling, and even met up with people that he talked to online, when he would go to different areas.
or on the flip side, gotten into any big social media beef? That, too. Ryder would get into arguments just for the sake of getting into an argument, to be honest. It kept life interesting.
have they ever felt negatively impacted by social media as a user? Not really, no. Even negative criticisms of his art work (or his body), he kind of just let roll off his back.
who is their favorite person / account to follow on social media? There are so, so many artists that he loves to follow on social media. He's fascinated by the people who do pottery, especially the men who do it shirtless. Those are his people.
would they say that social media has had an overall more positive or negative impact on the world? Probably positive, but he can see the downsides. But there's a lot of good that social media can be used for, if you use it right.
and finally: a/s/l? (and do they know what that means?) 29/M/all over the world, until recently. He does know what it means, but he wasn't super active online at the time that it was being used, admittedly. So the first few times he saw it were major "huh?" moments.
MERROCK TASK #20 SOCIAL MEDIA
at what age did your character start using social media? Social media wasn't really a huge thing when Jason was young enough to care... he didn't really start using it until he was older -- late thirties, to be honest.
did their parents monitor their use, if they were young? If he would have used social media, he's more than sure that his parents would have kept an eye on everything.
has your character ever had fake identities or accounts online? No, nothing like that.
no shame: do they remember myspace? did they use it? He might not have used MySpace, but he definitely remembers it existing, and what an uproar it all caused.
who would be in their top eight today? Theo, Cordelia, Tessa, Scott, Cori, Kellan, Vince and Sam.
what social media platforms do they use today? Just Instagram. He has a Facebook account, and has for a long time, but he really doesn't use it all that much.
do they have public profiles, or go private? Public, now. He kept his socials private for a long time, until he moved back to Merrock.
how about their following? are they pretty lowkey, or do they have a decent following? Small time, and he likes it that way. He does get the occasional firefighter-chaser that follows him, or people who really like state park content, though.
do they tend to pick obvious usernames, ones with sentimental value, funny things? how do they decide? It's always pretty obvious stuff: jaceeverett, jayev, jacebrowning, the usuals.
profile pictures: the same across all platforms? Definitely the same one, yeah. He'll just pick something and then let the platforms themselves set it as default or... whatever it is that they do.
and just what profile pictures do they use? A selfie. Normally an embarrassing one. He learned his lesson after those firefighter-chasers started following him when he posted himself in uniform once or twice.
what kind of bio writer are they? silly, cute, sweet, or just basic? If there's a bio at all, it's super basic. Something like. "Jace, 40, ranger & firefighter."
how much time per day would you say that your character spends on social media? Not very often, an hour a day?
is there one platform that they visit more than others? Instagram.
if they have kids, do they use social media? how do they feel about that? if not, and they want kids, will they let them use it someday? Jason doesn't have kids, but he does have nieces and nephews, and of course he worries about the kind of content that they might run into while they're scroll. He doesn't plan on having kids, but if he did, he wouldn't want them to use social media until it was a decision they could make with no peer pressure at all and until they 'knew better' than to get involved in some of the trouble.
be honest: have they ever created an account for something else, like a hobby, or… to try to make their cat internet famous? Nope.
do they run any professional or business accounts? Jason does help run the social media account for the Merrock State Park.
have they ever left a social media platform (or more than one) for any specific reason? No, nothing like that.
do they plan on using social media into their older ages? ... Jason would argue that being in his forties, he probably is what people would consider an 'older aged' social media user.
have they ever made any long-lasting friendships through social media? Not really, but he's kept in contact with people that he met and then linked up with on social media.
or on the flip side, gotten into any big social media beef? No.
have they ever felt negatively impacted by social media as a user? He hasn't, really. Jason's been lucky enough to know how to throw himself into social media too much, so he's spared himself a lot of the drama and turmoil.
who is their favorite person / account to follow on social media? Smokey the Bear.
would they say that social media has had an overall more positive or negative impact on the world? That depends on the day that you ask him. There's a whole lot of negativity in the world of social media, but he knows that some of it can be used for good, too.
and finally: a/s/l? (and do they know what that means?) 40/m/ME. And God, yeah, he remembers that.
MERROCK TASK #20 SOCIAL MEDIA
at what age did your character start using social media? Oh, definitely younger than she should have! Not for anything bad, but she wanted to keep up with everyone else her age that were also using social media far too young. Probably around 9, 10 years old?
did their parents monitor their use, if they were young? Not really, for the most part, Elena was a pretty good kid, her parents knew that she wasn't getting up to anything bad.
has your character ever had fake identities or accounts online? No!
no shame: do they remember myspace? did they use it? Nope; MySpace was a little bit before Lena's time, at least when she was really into social media.
who would be in their top eight today? Ooh, probably her sister and mother, because her father doesn't use social media. Her brother-in-law, Arturo, Jackson, Natasha, Amina, Iris.
what social media platforms do they use today? Primarily Instagram, Facebook, Threads and TikTok! She watches YouTube videos, too, if that counts.
do they have public profiles, or go private? Private.
how about their following? are they pretty lowkey, or do they have a decent following? Since Lena mostly has private accounts, it's more lowkey, but she also knows a lot of people, between having a well-to-do family, being friends with everyone, and people she got to know in Los Angeles whenever she visits.
do they tend to pick obvious usernames, ones with sentimental value, funny things? how do they decide? Obvious! She just goes with "lenavaz" pretty much everywhere.
profile pictures: the same across all platforms? Yep. Given that Facebook, Instagram and Threads are connected, they all show the same one, anyway, so why not make everything else match?
and just what profile pictures do they use? Right now, it's just a picture of herself; she has a tendency to change it often, whenever she really, really likes a picture that she took or that was taken of her. Just depends!
what kind of bio writer are they? silly, cute, sweet, or just basic? Little more on the sweet side. Normally it'll be a little description of herself ("a girl who likes rocks, cats, fish and flowers") with her pronouns. It's nothing too serious!
how much time per day would you say that your character spends on social media? A lot of time; not, like, an unhealthy amount of time (although what's healthy these days?), but probably more than the average person, for sure.
is there one platform that they visit more than others? Instagram.
if they have kids, do they use social media? how do they feel about that? if not, and they want kids, will they let them use it someday? Lena's niece asks all the time if she can look at her phone to check TikTok videos, or scroll through Instagram, and Lena's so hesitant about it, especially since she wants that decision to be her brother-in-law's. If she has kids, she'll let them use it, but sparingly; these days, it can be a dangerous world.
be honest: have they ever created an account for something else, like a hobby, or… to try to make their cat internet famous? Not really, but she does post a lot of make-up looks for whenever she's hired to do that.
do they run any professional or business accounts? She helps out with Universal Rocks' social media accounts when needed.
have they ever left a social media platform (or more than one) for any specific reason? Twitter, for the obvious ones.
do they plan on using social media into their older ages? Yes! Why not? Social media isn't just for teenagers these days, and as long as it's something that she enjoys, she'll use it.
have they ever made any long-lasting friendships through social media? Oh yeah, a few! There are people that she's both become friends with through social media, and people that she met in person, but then maintained friendships with through social media, in return.
or on the flip side, gotten into any big social media beef? No beef, thank God. A few arguments on Twitter way back when, though!
have they ever felt negatively impacted by social media as a user? Oh yeah, sure. Lena keeps private accounts largely because she lives in a small town and doesn't want her business being broadcast all over the world, but also it's just safer to live in your own little bubble. She can understand why people are negatively impacted just by scrolling, given some of the things that you can see on social media these days.
who is their favorite person / account to follow on social media? A lot of her favorite actors from back in the day! She doesn't really have any one favorite, but it's fun to watch them live normal, every day lives.
would they say that social media has had an overall more positive or negative impact on the world? Positive, because of how much good it can do, raising money and awareness for important causes, highlighting good stories and good people.
and finally: a/s/l? (and do they know what that means?) Although she can't say she was ever asked her a/s/l in an AOL chat room, she does know what it means. 29/f/ME, btw.
