Experiment/Simulation

I've been thinking about RTTE a lot lately, especially how it relates to the movies. I've been wondering a lot specifically about if, under different circumstances, Fishlegs would've wound up with Ruffnut or Heather (or Snotlout, who never canonically dated Fishlegs, but clearly had a crush on him, especially his alter ego). In order to test this, I have loaded up a household of Hiccup, Astrid, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, Fishlegs, Snotlout, and Heather on The Sims 4 and put them all in a house that looks like Dragon's Edge. Now, we wait for the autonomous results. In the meantime, I got Tuffnut a chicken coop and I had Hiccup and Astrid do the weird time travel thing. I'll keep y'all updated.

I've been headcanoning for a long time now that Heather is older than Hiccup by a year or two at most, but I was talking with some friends of mine over on Discord and it made me realize that RttE may be hinting at that actually being the case.

Because as everyone who has watched RttE will know; when Hiccup found Heather's horn with his father's chief's seal on it, the first thing he did was take it back with him to Berk to ask the man directly if he and Heather weren't just related, but brother and sister.

And I don't know who here remembers Httyd 2, but in Valka's flashback of when she was taken, Hiccup was still a small baby. (I personally think he was around 4 months old based on my experience with children, so very young.) That's not enough time for Valka and Stoick to quickly squeeze in a daughter, give her that horn, and then lose her and never mention her in Hiccup's entire life.

So in order for Hiccup to think this is a valid way of thinking, knowing how little his own mother was in his life and having no other mothers in his life married to his father, he would've already have needed to know that Heather is older than him.

Something I noticed for Race to the Edge:

So in Have Dragon Will Travel pts 1&2 Heather (18ish) mentions that she was a little girl when she was separated from her birth family with little memories of them.

However in The Search For Oswald (And Chicken) Dagur's note (Dagur being 23/24) from Oswald the Agreeable saying that he regrets not seeing him and Heather grow up together.

However in Riders of Berk episode Twinsanity, Dagur (20) is first introduced as the new chief of the Berserkers and had come for the annual treaty signing. Meaning the year before Oswald had still been there.

Meaning that something was done wrong. Heather would have been gone before Oswald disappeared to Vanaheim and would have known that they wouldn't have grown up together.

... So there's that lol hope y'all enjoyed my rant/analysis

I have two headcannons when it comes to valka. One, she's sister to Oswald the agreeable. And both siblings just got the whole wishing to not fight gene, she just takes it to another level (which is where the deranged part comes in.

Or, she's a thorston. The twins and hiccup do not know that they're practically cousins. The crazy runs in that family, which is why hiccup is like that.

Bonus, the twins decide to make hiccup an honorary thorston and make him do a stupid trial to become an honorary throston.

Snotlout and Gustav see the ice created by the Bewilderbeast living under Berserker Island. A little spoiler. As a treat.

Snotlout also immediately is like "dragon" about it.

"Wow. I wonder what kind of huge, nasty, venomous dragon lives down here."

I mean, if you take the mind-control thing as both "nasty" and "venomous" (I know, I'm being generous with that)... he's right on target. Way to go, Snotlout!!!

So was thinking ‘damn I love rtte, but I wish there were more people of color. This person’s Inuit OC is so cool.’

So what if the berserkers were Inuit or basic-unspecified-indigenous-northern-folk, cause I have done ZERO research on this. I think it adds more representation, (given this is a kids show and representation, even if it isn’t all that realistic, is extremely important at a formative age) and it adds more flavor to the world.

And then BAM, it hit me, maybe I would hate Heather less if she looked less basic!

Here is the brief sketch. I think I got a lot more character into her design than “her hair is black cause she’s sad :(”

As someone who loves both httyd and wakfu I am BEGGING you to talk more about this

Well it wasn't much more than a passing thought I wrote down before i forgot it and I was gonna apologize and say I've not thought of much but character classes, but I blacked out and went into a frenzy.

So for character classes:

Hiccup: Eliatrope and Toothless is his dragon brother

Astrid: Feca or Cra (though I could maybe see her being a Iop too?)

Snotlout: Iop

Twins: Iops as well (I'd say most of Berk's population is)

I'm kind of stuck on what Fishlegs would be. huppermage? Maybe? Idk

Dagur: Sacrier

Heather: Sram

Undecided on what I'd want Viggo to be, or if I'm even going to include him but I'm open to any suggestions.

And for a Rotbtd version (bc I contracted that disease recently):

Merida: Cra

Jack: Rogue

Rapunzel: Eniripsa

But I don't have much more than that for this version rn.

And then I have some story ideas for it but I'll put them under the cut because it's kind of a lot

Berk is a a small coastline port village known for its fishing and inhabitants with ridiculous names and violent tendencies (most of them are Iops).

(Debating on its actual location but I can't for the life of me find a map for the World of Twelve that's actually labeled 💀)

Stoick is a Iop and chief of the village. He found Hiccup when he was an infant. He's never actually sat Hiccup down and given him the "you're adopted" talk, but they're both aware of it. This doesn't really have any strain on their relationship though (they love each other, but like in canon, are shit at actually showing it) the fights they have are over other things, mostly Hiccup's hazardous passion projects. And later, Hiccup's desire to leave Berk.

Hiccup is the village blacksmith's apprentice, but is often distracted with his own projects.

He is more focused on making inventions powered by wakfu than honing his own abilities beyond portal making (because of this, they often explode). as well as seemingly having a lack of interest in finding out about himself and what he is. Beyond the fact that deep down, he knows he is not human. He still wants to get out of Berk and dreams of exploring the World of Twelve.

Hiccup lost his left leg below the knee in an accident he indirectly caused when he was 14. Part of why he doesn't like using his powers.

(If you've watched the show, you'll know that when Yugo makes two portals and puts them in front of each other, it creates a beam of energy that essentially decimates whatever it comes into contact with. And iirc it's mostly been used on machines and such, so I don't think organic matter like bone muscle and flesh would stand a chance.)

Fishlegs is the closest thing he has to a friend. they'll eagerly talk about his inventions, until Fishlegs asks Hiccup to go more in depth on how his powers work, then Hiccup shuts him out. Usally after a few days of silent treatment things go back to normal and they act like it never happened.

Snotlout is Hiccup's cousin who used to bully him but has stopped (doing it outright anyway, ofc he's still rude and we love him for it <3) due to a begruding respect for Hiccup, not that he'll ever admit it (and perhaps out of fear, after all blowing your leg off and accidentally destroying half the village, intentional or not, is an impressive feat). The twins follow Hiccup around in hopes to see what disaster he'll cause next. They're the reason Hiccup moved his 'Workshop' out of the smithy and into a remote clearing in the forest miles away from the village proper.

Toothless is Hiccup's dragon brother and has been searching for Hiccup for years, but Hiccup is so out of tune with his wakfu their connection was almost completely severed and Toothless is unable locate him. Until recently Hiccup had no idea Toothless existed, beyond a lifelong feeling of something being very distinctly wrong and the occasional vague prodding sensation in the back of his head (Toothless trying his absolute hardest to get through to him).

I have no idea what I want to do for Astrid tbh. I want to do her justice which is why I'm so indecisive.

And I have nothing for Heather and Dagur beyond what their classes would be honestly. Something will come to me eventually though.

He Deserves a Good Start

Summary: Set in a Modern AU. Facing the fact that Hiccup needs to repeat his year after the one he just had, Astrid and Heather have decided he needs a good start.

Hiccup can’t believe he’s here; doing back to school shopping in a clothing store, of all places. He’s just standing there, looking at clothes while Astrid stands at one side and Heather at the other. Their other friends are here, too, the twins are giving Snotlout fashion tips somewhere.

“Okay, but seriously, why am I here?” Hiccup asks the two girls, though he looks at Astrid.

“School’s about to start, you need a new wardrobe!” Astrid says it like it’s so simple, like he’s in any way interested in clothes. He has, but only if he gets to make them or modify them. But mass-produced clothes? No, not really.

“And my wardrobe’s bad?” Hiccup asks, feeling a little insecure.

“It’s not bad, it just needs updating,” Heather shrugs a little. She and Astrid are basically playing with fire here. Hiccup’s gaze moves between the two girls, an awkward thing to do as he’s standing in between the two.

“To your situation, Hiccup,” Astrid clarifies and all three of them happen to look down at his left leg. He’s wearing a pair of jean shorts, his prosthesis is visible and he’s gotten a few looks already. The sight of it makes him feel so out of place, but at least he’s alive, he supposes.

Astrid steps closer and takes his upper arm. “You were out of school for most of last year and… We’ll, if you’re going to re-do your year, you should do it in style!”

“With pants that work with your leg,” Heather adds helpfully.

“With pants that work with your leg, yeah.”

Hiccup still gives both girls an insecure look, grasping his jeans on his left side. Ever since he got sick, his self-esteem has taken a serious hit. It was bone cancer, they found out when he randomly broke his left ankle. They tried chemo, which is the biggest part of why he missed so much school. When they discovered that nothing changed, they decided to take his leg. It was preferable over trying different treatments, potentially meeting the same results, and risk having it spread to other parts of his body.

At least now, for the time being, they’ve cautiously declared him cancer-free. He still has check-ups to go to, his hair is far from the length that it used to be, he’s still skinnier than he was before which makes him appear smaller, and then there is his prosthesis, of course.

He’s had an incredibly tough school year and Hiccup deserves a good start in the next one in Astrid’s eyes. And if they find something that helps build his confidence a little along the way, then that is a bonus she will gladly accept.

“I- I guess we have to do some shopping,” Hiccup shrugs, Astrid wraps an arm around his shoulder as the three of them look at the row of clothes before them.
