Ok, almost after a month I'm back. Tons of work at new job, which made my reading time almost stop, but I got this nice quote from Cloud Atlas that completely deserves a post. We all should be wise and see the smoke, but instead of vacating we should try fighting back. It also gave me even more desire to read How Democracies Die from Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt. #bookinstagram #readingchallenge #bookofthemonth #cloudatlas #booked #bookchallenge #howdemocraciesdie https://www.instagram.com/p/B1MF-fUie05/?igshid=64qk6lvg9206

New books! I love the sound of the postman struggling to get the parcel through the letterbox on my door😉. This time two nonfictional free books from @crownpublishing. How Democracies Die and The Language of Kindness: A Nurse’s Story. • “But there is another way to break a democracy. It is less dramatic but equally destructive. Democracies may die at the hands not of generals but of elected leaders—presidents or prime ministers who subvert the very process that brought them to power. Some of these leaders dismantle democracy quickly, as Hitler did in the wake of the 1933 Reichstag fire in Germany. More often, though, democracies erode slowly, in barely visible steps.” #HowDemocraciesDie • #TheLanguageofKindness is not for anyone afraid of blood and will not cheer you up. It is a fascinating read about everyday life in a hospital. Christie Watson was a registered nurse for twenty years before writing full time. Her first novel, Tiny Sunbirds Far Away, won the Costa First Novel Award and her second novel, Where Women Are Kings, was also published to international critical acclaim. Her works have been translated into eighteen languages. @travellingbibliophile @kirkekriisk you might find it interesting.💛
