Hreshfal and Chiss'Vatham's Theme

I wrote the Dwarnian music in the latest mini episode of Starship Iris and I'm so excited that you can hear it now! 

Written for The Strange Case of Starship Iris podcast, episode 5.25, Cultural Enrichment. This song uses custom instrument sounds designed by Sneha Deo.

In the universe of the show, this song was written and performed by non-human people called Dwarnians. I had a lot of fun experimenting with ways music could be different from what I'm familiar with. For example, I used a 22 note scale, a rhythm created by the silence when a long drone stops, and sounds that I imagine could echo across large bodies of water.

My Park-Sana heart very much enjoyed their fake marriage, with Park playing up his veteran cred while Sana pretends to be grossed out by swords

I have questions about the population distribution across New Jupiter. We haven’t heard the name of any cities on it, right, just the planet’s name?

His scene with McCabe 👀 At first I was worried McCabe suspected Triple Agent!Park but then that revealing slip with the pronoun, oof

Very into the idea that Park keeps all worries to himself but immediately jumps at the first opportunity that has even the slightest hint of being Shelly-related, and that being the inverse of how McCabe operates

He’s into puns now. Or worse, he was always into puns, this is just the slow deterioration of his professional compartmentalization.

Violet/Arkady privately practice fake falls and are into angry deserter/heartless bourgeois RP, they deserve every roast they get from the crew and more

Violet’s growing confusion and Arkady’s resigned horror as Sana got more and more excited about the heist at the start? A+ do you think Sana misses hotwiring spaceships and/or grapes

I was gonna ask how they decided who went into the field and then I realized: Arkady has to do her hacking thing, Krejjh is purple, Brian is sick and McCabe is still in the low-trust category. Glad no one recognized Park or Violet though 

sometimes dubs are the only tenable option?

yes, yes, time for some Dwarnians to be terrible to any/all of {Krejjh, Brian, Arkady}, which is a great group to have hangout in that environment given their, uh, varying histories. Especially with the personal bodyguard excuse. I hope Brian gets to have a good literature argument 

Krejjh continues to gamely respond to McCabe’s prodding family questions, I wonder if it’s just a nice ranting opportunity. (Meanwhile, McCabe is like that gamer who found out they missed an entire area in their first playthrough and will now scour every inch on the second playthrough.)

Wanna know what zero-g situations Dwarnian soldiers get involved with such that heavy helmets are one of the steals from the war. Also wonder what human stuff Dwarnians picked up, or were they like, This Is All Beneath Us *random Dwarnian soldiers hide their loot*

The arms deal likely took place on a government ship...growing my fears about the Dwarnian response to the revelations of the Iris reports and that they might take advantage of the destabilizing IGR to start another war. 

Minor character MVP: Hreshfal, who appropriately utilizes their special occasion hat, and has a correspondingly dramatic crew who know when to gasp. An excellent privateer captain. (Sorry Krejjh, I’m with McCabe here, real pirates don’t work for a state.)
