A structured way to learn JavaScript.
I came across a post on Twitter that I thought would be helpful to share with those who are struggling to find a structured way to learn Javascript on their own. Personally, I wish I had access to this information when I first started learning in January. However, I am grateful for my learning journey so far, as I have covered most topics, albeit in a less structured manner.
N/B: Not everyone learns in the same way; it's important to find what works for you. This is a guide, not a rulebook.
EASY
What is JavaScript and its role in web development?
Brief history and evolution of JavaScript.
Basic syntax and structure of JavaScript code.
Understanding variables, constants, and their declaration.
Data types: numbers, strings, boolean, and null/undefined.
Arithmetic, assignment, comparison, and logical operators.
Combining operators to create expressions.
Conditional statements (if, else if, else) for decision making.
Loops (for, while) for repetitive tasks. - Switch statements for multiple conditional cases.
MEDIUM
Defining functions, including parameters and return values.
Function scope, closures, and their practical applications.
Creating and manipulating arrays.
Working with objects, properties, and methods.
Iterating through arrays and objects.Understanding the Document Object Model (DOM).
Selecting and modifying HTML elements with JavaScript.Handling events (click, submit, etc.) with event listeners.
Using try-catch blocks to handle exceptions.
Common error types and debugging techniques.
HARD
Callback functions and their limitations.
Dealing with asynchronous operations, such as AJAX requests.
Promises for handling asynchronous operations.
Async/await for cleaner asynchronous code.
Arrow functions for concise function syntax.
Template literals for flexible string interpolation.
Destructuring for unpacking values from arrays and objects.
Spread/rest operators.
Design Patterns.
Writing unit tests with testing frameworks.
Code optimization techniques.
That's it I guess!

Website is Live!
After several weeks of hard work learning html and css, I've finally finished putting together my new website! !
On it you can find information as to where to find me online, updates to my Invertebrate Tarot project, and commission information!
(Easily check out the full deck as each card updates)
I have also updated my Ko-Fi page. It hosts my commission listings, as well as the last of my stock from my previous BigCartel shop (though shipping is for now limited to the usa), so if you wanted to pick up any stickers or acrylic charms of my designs, this is the place to grab them. I also host my mini-artbooks as pay-what-you-want.
With any commission, I have decided to take 15% of comm payments and donate the funds in an effort to resist the violence of the current usa administration.
As I set up which group I'll focus those donations on (looking at the Trans Youth Emergency Project) , for now I will be donating those funds to a friend of mine who's wheelchair was broken by an airline.
Finally, I've donated several of my illustrations as wallpapers to a fundraiser organized by Franz:
This is a nature-themed wallpaper pack featuring dozens of artists donations. It is available to the end of February. As per the instructions on the post, donate to either Lambda Legal or Assigned Media and Franz will send you the download link to the wallpaper collection.

I’m a complete beginner when it comes to any coding and I’m not sure if you are or not, but was it easy to begin making the site using rarebit?
I'm a complete beginner as well! I've only coded a navigation bar back in middle school for an assignment and then never again, so Rarebit was overwhelming when I started.
However, you'll realize that it's pretty straightforward the more you read the code over and over again. I suggest opening up the Rarebit folder in an external terminal that isn't Neocities like Visual Studio Code and download the Live Preview plug-in from Microsoft. This let's you see your website in live time and not have to code blindly like in Neocities.
HTML is extremely straightforward and easy to grasp. It's CSS you have to learn and worry about since it's what makes your website look like your website.
I haven't touched Javascript yet, that's a bit more complex, but nothing a YouTube video or a forum can't help with.
It just takes time and patience like any other skill to learn!
I recently learnt how to use flexbox!

#asks#anon#idk it's just fun!#and more rewarding to create an experience for the readers to explore than to upload it on webtoon or tapas#like it reminds people that comics are a craft and aren't just content to consume#there's an experience to it

Posting Reminder

Posting has officially begun! You have until June 22nd 11:59 PM ET (what time is that for me?) to post your work to AO3. If you haven't spoken to the mods in advance and do not post your gift by the deadline, you’ll be defaulted automatically.
To post your assignment on AO3, log in and click “Post” in the top right hand corner, then “New Work” in the drop down box. Follow the standard steps to post a new written work, remembering to tag any warnings or triggers, but before you post, click the box that says, "Stony Loves Steve 2025" and the name of your giftee in the "Open Assignments" section.
As AO3 doesn’t host art, you will need to upload your art to another website (DA, tumblr, imgur, etc), and then use this code in the HTML editor: <img src=“LINK TO ART” width=“100%” alt=“” /> Make sure you link to the direct image. Do not link to a tumblr post.
Your work will be listed as “unapproved” until it has been approved by a mod which may take a few days. If there is an issue with your post, you’ll be contacted by the mods. We won’t approve incomplete works and WIPs for the collection, so if you are having trouble completing your work by the deadline, send an email as soon as possible to [email protected].
If you post your work as a draft, the mods will be able to see it listed but not view the contents. In order for your work to be approved, you must post it as a completed work by the deadline. Feel free to use a draft as you edit your work; this will indicate to the mods that your work is in the process of being posted.
If you need additional help, you can contact us at [email protected]. Please avoid waiting until the last minute to contact us; the sooner you ask for an extension, a pinch-hitter, or any kind of help, the better.
Gift reveals will begin June 28th and continue for up to a week. Creators will be revealed once all gifts have been revealed. Please keep your gift a secret until creators have been revealed.
Do not post your work anywhere else before creators have been revealed! If you post to tumblr after reveals please use #stonylovessteve2025 so we can reblog you!

okay so quick note:
i’ll be going on a semi-hiatus.
i have massive end-assignments coming up that i only have a month left for. (hiatus until end of january)
i’m sorry !! i’ve been kinda pushing my workload back to write my fics and it was a stupid thing to do because school work is catching up to me right now. (if you have any knowledge/experience with adobe illustrator and/or html & javascript… help me out so we can end the hiatus faster😜)
what that means for my wips:
SDKMN: i want to post pt 3 before i go but i doubt i’ll make it. if i don’t get it out this weekend, it might have to wait until the last week of january.
CAL: updates aren’t going to be the same as they’ve been. an update might only be once a week or even biweekly.
i say semi-hiatus bc i’ll still be active and open to chat/answer asks/interact etc.
thank you for staying until here to read this <333 see you guys soon!
love, 🍀.

who is this girl?
as i approach 100 followers and soon become tumblr famous and known across the globe i think it's high time i made an introductory post. hiii ^_^ i'm deme!! or demeter. or dante. or jack. pick your poison from the tetrad
in my free time, when im not staring blankly at whatever assignment ive been tasked with doing (and that i am promptly not doing and that i am instead merely contemplating with growing dread), i like to create! i've been brushing up on my html and javascript in the past year or two, and i made a fully fledged choose-your-own-adventure last year on my birthday! what? you want to see it? erm. no. sorry. the site is scary i need to finish the rest of it you can wait til then
i enjoy long walks on the beach i mean writing and drawing! i'm working on like. three books right now? two are on the backburner. the third one is also on the backburner but i'm trying to reel it in like a bigass fish that is trying to pull me into the ocean depths. i also enjoy drawing from time to time but i would not say i'm particularly good at actually finishing pieces. i'm definitely better at finishing drawings than i am at finishing pieces of writing.
i've combined all three of these interests of coding, writing, and drawing, into my webcomic, finality! you can read it here. as of the time of writing, it's not very long, but i have most of it planned out. as of this september, i'll have been planning it out for a whole three years. scary!
along with she/her, i also use et/cetera! here's the structure for that:
she/her/hers/herself ("She's going to the store in her car to buy some food for herself, but can't find which car is hers.")
et/cetera/ceteras/etself ("Et's going to the store in cetera car to buy some food for etself, but can't find which car is ceteras.")
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
I'M TRANSGENDER! GOD BLESS MY NATION 🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️
for fun i like going to https://crouton.net/ and on occasion https://po.ta.to/
i love video games. recently cried several times over outer wilds. i love the fuck out of ultrakill. many other games strike my fancy
i have a SHIT TON OF OCS!!!!!!! i've been developing my oc universe(s) since 2015 so there's like. ok i made a sheet to list them all recently and it's currently coming up on 300 little guys. hell, the characters from finality aren't even on there!!!
i have fixations on transmission towers, houses, and the moon
i run the sideblog @terminal-output, where i post snippets of stories ive written! i have an ongoing narrative forming here
if you are going to reblog shirtless men please tag it as shirtless men. i don't want to see them i'm sorry it's not my thing. honestly despite my womenliker tendencies this also goes for women but i don't think i follow anybody who posts shirtless women

The assignation of Trump has evidenced an unprecedented level of security incompetence. Literally…an inconceivable level of incompetence.
The subsequent briefings have demonstrated an utter lack of common sense, outright lies, or further violation of their own protocols. You should expect nothing less from the feds. Totally useless briefs other than to catch them in further lies, cover up and incompetence.
Couple the staggering incompetence with too numerous to count “coincidences” and even the normies are thinking…conspiracy. There’s no way that shooter on the roof didn’t have help. It’s practically a common talking point now it’s so obvious.
But here’s the thing…in a world of perpetual lies…trust but verify even the best of them.
Example. We have likely all seen the fuzzy red hat interview saying there was a shooter on the roof:

The immediacy of his interview by the BBC (sus agency) was…curious to me. Granted, chaotic, shooter seen, everyone wants to get their story out, but rando fuzzy red hat guy gets an immediate interview by a major news organization while the brass is still warm on the ground. Curious. Others have subsequently validated his story with their own versions, so it seems to “check out”. And THATS the narrative: multiple witnesses of the shooter on the roof, lots of excuses, no one is stepping down. Get that story out there IMMEDIATELY.
But there’s another story getting ZERO attention. There’s a second shooter on the water tower. Feel free to search second shooter” on X. Now that X is censorship free there’s lots of legit info. And the same type of people who validated or told their stories about the “shooter on the roof” are validating and telling their stories of a “second shooter”. But zero attention or discussion of this. Why? Well…if it’s true that seals the deal for conspiracy. Can’t have THAT! MSM silent on it all. But they talk about the videos and witnesses of the shooter on the roof non stop. Such a compliment mockingbird media!
If you believe fuzzy red hat (and others) with their stories and videos of “shooter on the roof” (and you should) then you should just as voraciously believe the “second shooter” videos and stories. They are from the same group of Trump rally supporters. Just a different vantage point.
Again, in a world of perpetual lies…trust but verify. Fuzzy red hat may be totally legit, but the way he got his story out there SO fast and by an major news organization was…curious. It reminded me of another media driven narrative.
Remember 9-11. What brought down the towers? And we’ll ignore Bldg 7 which just “died suddenly”.
Why heck! everyone knows it was the fires that did it. Uhhh…ok. Where did that line come from? It came from some random guy on the street. Getting interviewed. By a major news organization:

This was the VERY first time it was ever stated. Ever. Some rando uttered the line without any knowledge or experience while he just got done running down the street in chaos to escape the falling towers. Not suspect at all (sarcasm). But it became the narrative…forever. Curious. Just like fuzzy red hat guy.
Oh look:

Yeah. Watch the whole video and you’ll see the story line is a setup. Source:
https://rumble.com/v4gdc4u-documentary-of-all-documentaries-jfk-to-sept-911-everything-is-a-rich-mans-.html
Fantastic 3 1/2 hr video. Will change your perspective on the world but for brevity the above 9-11 clip starts at the 3 hr mark.
So check out “second shooter” on X
Watch the short scene from rumble. Then the whole movie.
And tell your normie friends it’s ok to be a conspiracy theorist. They’ll generally live longer and everything will make sense to them.

do you need help with filezilla bc I, unfortunately, know filezilla intimately
no i gave up on FileZilla because it upset me (i needed to get a two factor authentification vpn to make it work and the two factor authentication part of the vpn refused to work so i had to use other means and then the other means still didnt really work but at least the assignment is mostly recognizable as what i was supposed to do even if i had to resort to using the html coding that i know from posting on ao3)

Hey very random feel free to ignore this but I saw in the toasty puter post in the tags that you mentioned coding! I love coding! So uh. What's it that you're coding on your hopefully soon to be less closer to its own heat death Laptop :)?
omg thank you for the reminder to actually change my computer settings!!! 🤞🤞🤞 my laptop chills the fuck out now (literally, lmao)
and thanks sm for the question!!! i've been doing some stuff in python for school assignments/research and html/css bc i want to remake my neocities website :)
(i haven't gotten anywhere with the neocities stuff tho bc my brain and eyes are usually fried after school, lmao)
my current research project feels very niche to me so i'm trying to figure out how i can describe it in a way that makes sense but also isn't too specific. this project is also new to me so i don't fully understand some of it. i also don't know what kind of coding experience you have. tldr: i'm sorry if this ends up being incoherent, lmao
it's essentially a couple of data analysis things?
i've been processing + plotting some data to look at the sun's intensity (power emitted per area) at different wavelengths. this gets me an intensity vs. wavelength graph. i'm doing this for really cool reasons but alas they are also really niche reasons :/
i've also been processing + plotting some images (this part has been the most difficult for me ;-;). they're essentially just images with some random and fake stars in the background. i'm isolating the parts of the image that occur at the wavelengths i'm interested in (this was the worst bc the images are just pixels so i had to figure out what pixels corresponded to what wavelengths etc. evil evil evil evil). anyway then i took my little isolated image and broke it up into even smaller pieces and averaged the intensities of all those (binned + averaged those bins). this was so i could go from a normal looking image to a graph with a single line of data (intensity vs. wavelength again)
from what i understand i'm supposed to compare these two intensity graphs and idk, have some revelations about my fake data? but idk how to do that so i will be asking my advisor for help on monday, lmao
anyway i hope this made sense? explained something? i think this would be so much easier to explain with images but i don't have anything other than my silly little niche graphs, sorry :(
lmk if you're confused or have questions about anything and i can try to clarify it :)
but! you like to code as well! what kind of stuff are you doing (or have done in the past)?
#thank u again for the question <3#it's nice to chat with you and see you in my notifs/inbox friend :D#zip answers#euphoric-cha0s
