I don’t have too too much to say about this guy other than I finally got over my reservations on giving these furies markings, which means I may revisit the others. There will eventually be a lineup of all of them which I am so hype for. Also in case you couldn’t tell this was extremely shark-inspired (gws is Great White Shark). As always feel free to give me critiques, the feedback I’ve gotten thus far has been absolutely delightful and has helped me improve on my ability to make these guys in a way that makes some sense biologically.

I was listening to In a Week by Hozier and it gave me an idea for a new dragon species

So basically, this dragon is about the size of a Night terror and it can disappear similar to a changewing. A changewing however, can completely disappear, a lot like an octopus. These dragons are more like chameleons, not entirely disappearing, but rather camouflaging and changing its scale color to blend in with it’s surroundings.

Due to their small sizes, they tend to stay is groups, and have a hard time hunting. Because of this, they’ve adapted. First, you’re lured in with a sort of siren song. It makes a noise that attracts; think the Red Death, Deathsong, or Bewilderbeast. Second, they spray you with a poisonous mist. the more dragons, the more potent the poison. The song works on almost any animal, not just other dragons. That includes humans.

This poison doesn’t kill its prey immediately, instead it has another affect. It gives it’s victims a sense of overwhelming euphoria, calmness, confusion, and exhaustion. It tempts it’s victims with happy thoughts and deep sleep. This sleep slows its victim’s pulse and breathing, killing them after 15-30 minutes. The dragons will not eat their prey until they are 100% sure the poison has done its job completely. These dragons have the unique ability to hear heartbeats.

It is possible to fight both the affects of the song and the poison. Unlike the Deathsong or Bewilderbeast, it is indeed possible to ignore the song’s affects and carry on. However, if you don’t know about the song’s deadly affect, most wouldn’t try to fight it. As for the poison, it’s just as simple, though quite a bit more tricky. You need be awoken/stay awake. If you’re alone, this task is practically impossible. When you’re awake, it takes about an hour for the effects of the poison to wear off. If your entire group has been poisoned, it’s safe to say you’re not making it out of that forest.

I’m thinking about calling these guys Lullabies. That might change but as of right now that’s what I’m callin em.

i still believe that Night Furies are still there during the timeframe of THD, since they are apparently warmer climate dragons they're probably more populated in tropical/temperate areas like South/Southeast Asia, and the like, plus with sights of people riding dragons the people outside Scotland (which is were Berk is based on iirc) it wouldn't be impossible for people to try and tame dragons and even breed them.

Breeding Night Furies with other dragons just to see what outcome and Pygmy Furies came to be, people thought that they were cute and manageable so they bred for more. They are the size of house-cats

These guys still have the bones where the wings would go.

Dragon concept I’ve been toying with. I’ve just been doodling with the design and not much more. Bellow are my ramblings, enjoy.

it would populate shallow water. And it wouldn’t be a competent flyer maybe because of its long tail????

It’s diet would consist of mostly aquatic creatures and sometimes vegetation.

It’s friendly to humans and easily trainable, although mischievous at times.

It’s leaf looking appendage is used to detect movement in water, it uses this to catch prey. Out of water this feature would be useless, leaving it vulnerable on land and in air.

I could probably rename this into a Spitter Fury but I dont feel like going back to edit it. This took SOOOO long with the details, but I’m proud of the diversion from a traditional nf, especially with the Summit Fury feeling only slightly different. if anyone has any other environmental adaptations they’d like to see lmk!

"Windrippers have evolved into two groups; Forest Windrippers and Cave Windrippers. The main difference between these two aren't so much genetics or inbreeding, because the two subtypes are not a separate species from each other, as much as build, flight type and dietary needs.

Forest Windrippers have evolved into being more stocky, stout dragons with wings better suited for distance flying and hovering, they have shorter snouts, smaller but broader ears, pupils that are more likely to be round instead of slitted, and a wider sclera/smaller iris to accompany their tendency to be in brighter areas, as well as the fact that they are more likely to live off of fresh game, common berries like blueberries and blackberries.

Cave Windrippers, however, are lean and lythe, disheveled and even boney/starving looks being common on a healthy specimen. Their heads are very narrow, able to fit into smaller spots for smaller prey, as well as defined cheekbones, double collarbones(present in both Forest and Cave, its just the first and second set of collarbones are more visible), and hind legs much longer than their front legs + wings are more built for acting as a second set of arms/stabilising/balance for when they stand bipedal instead of quadpedal. They also have longer tails, thinner wings built for gliding and darting, and they survive off of scavanged meat like bats, cave lizards, or, if they're lucky, a Maxillian Hell Beast(who's flesh is toxic and they've learned how to cook it enough with their flames to lessen/negate the toxin) as well as some cave berries(also semi-toxic, you have to stomach through those for years before being able to actually eat them comfortably) and, occasionally, halite rocks which are more used as a snack or supplement than anything else. Their pupils are larger, able to slit further and smaller while expanding wider with less sclera, more iris, and they have phenomenal night vision from living in low level light conditions on the regular.

The earliest known diversification of these two types is around ~18000 or so years ago (examples being: Phantom[Cave, and Gnash[Forest]) as the species started moving from the caves out into the world, however a regression occurred for the Windrippers who stayed(were forced) in the caves, and instead their evolution directed them for cave life instead of forest life.

Both types are wary of water, as it can soak into the stretchier part of their wing webbing(located between the furthest and middle "fingers" of the wings[not to be confused with the thumbs]) and cause extreme pressure + added weight and drag a Windripper to a drowning death in a large enough body of water."

I remade my species base, they kinda changed a lil since the last remake. I've given up on drawing sexual dimorphisim, whoever uses this base gets to hassle with that bit.

Semi-Open species, just ask my permission before making a character. I'll have you read the entire species information beforehand, but otherwise they're free to make, bases free to use, and fully editable per needs/requirements of the design. Don't sell/trade without letting me know though(not permission, just more of a heads up sort of thing), and I do get the option to buy back any character I sell that the purchaser decides they want gone(only if the person is selling the character though, I'm not gonna haunt your dms or emails going "i wanna buy that character back from you" if you still want the character)

At this point, I'm rambling, but uh, yeah, have a look.
