1 IN 5: FROM BULLIED TO HEALED “How did you come up with the name?” is usually one of the first questions I am asked about my platform. Officially named in 2019 after beginning my work with bullying prevention in 2012, my platform was inspired by the statistic that 1 in 5 students are bullied daily (according to @stopbullyinggov and @pacer_nbpc). The second half of the title, “From Bullied to Healed,” pays an ode to every victim of bullying, including myself, and their personal journeys of overcoming the adversities of being bullied. I am a living example of claiming victory over the raw pain, heartbreak, confusion, and frustration inflicted upon by bullies, and every day I work diligently towards my ongoing healing process. Through my “1 in 5” story, I encourage other victims of bullying, which I often call my “1-in-5er’s,” to unapologetically shine their unique light. As my mother taught me growing up, “Always stay true to yourself and never change who you are. Have good character and integrity.” Desperately trying to “fit in” with my classmates by unconsciously using the tactic of people pleasing, these words carried me through this difficult time in my life. Most importantly, my mother’s words reminded me that we are all “born to stand out” in our own special way (Dr. Seuss). Utilizing my bullying prevention podcast (which has the same title as my platform), ambassadorship with @humanbeingmankind, partnerships with @stand4kind and @pacer_nbpc, speaking engagements at schools across the country, and national bullying prevention education initiative, it is my mission to help victims of bullying to break through glass ceilings and stand out in the way God has intended for them. Recently, I had the absolute honor and pleasure of meeting with Mr. Steve Ackerman, a Legislative Director at the United States House of Representatives. Together, we planted the seed of my initiative to expand bullying prevention education to students in schools nationally. #ThursdayFunday was certainly an evening to remember, thanks to @thegrandeman321 for having me again on the Rock City Central podcast! What started as the most hilarious and kind introduction by one of my best friends, @thereal_fanizzi, became an intense conversation about my platform, 1 in 5: From Bullied to Healed, in addition to United States border policies, providing financial assistance to other countries, and more crucial discussions seen in our media daily. Shortly after my interview, a sweet angel named Roselyn was waving to us through the door to the podcast studio, and of course we told her to “come on in”! Wow, wow, WOW! What a wonderful weekend it was at the Point Pleasant Beach Offshore Grand Prix, sponsored by Jersey Mike's Subs 🚤🌊🏁 Between seeing the race boats up-close during Friday’s Block Party, being featured in Saturday’s Boat Parade, and presenting the awards at Sunday’s Race Day, I felt as if I was floating on a cloud...and still do. Human 𝗕𝗘ing Man 𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗟𝗗 🌎 Recently, I went on a walk around my neighborhood with my little brother and our puppy, Gracie. Within 20 minutes, the two small garbage bags I brought with me were filled to the very top. Living in a tourist town just a couple blocks away from one of the most well-known beaches and boardwalks in the Garden State, it breaks my heart to see how my little hometown is left after a beautiful summer weekend. This goes to show how kindness extends well beyond the boundaries of being friendly, respectful, generous, thoughtful, and selfless towards other people. It stretches to performing those kind acts towards our world and animals.
