PLEASE TELL ME MORE ABOUT KARDASHIAN AU
Ok SO!
The Kardashian au is a tongue-in-cheek, totally unserious wish fulfillment au made by me with the help of some besties just for fun. It centres around the plot of Spider, in a modern human au, being captured from his foster family (the Sullies) by Quaritch.
The kid wakes up in a lavish villa that doubles as a ranch, with chickens and beautiful horses! After being scared at first, Miles explains that he simply wants his son to sit tight until he forges custody documents (since the legal route failed him), but in return, Spider gets to have basically whatever he wants in the next two months until they come back to society.
Expensive art supplies? Done. A next-gen gaming console? Absolutely! Witchy stuff like incense, crystals or candles to worship Eywa? No problem!!! On top of all that, Socorro gets to be a menace to the highly trained squad of secret agents that Miles rooms with, and they very quickly take to him and the energy he brings to their house.
The au is largely based on silly fake internet post content I made in group chats, like this one right here:
Tumblr media
But it does formally have two written chapters, I just haven’t released them bc idk if people will take to such a ridiculous idea.
POINT IS — It’s called the Kardashian au because Spider gets to live like a sassy celebrity, and the addition of every agent (recom) keeping a video log, it becomes sort of like a Kardashian reality-show, with each other recoms and sometimes Spider sharing their experience of living together in a humourus form, often poking fun at each other.
Deep down the au also has a layer of psychological thriller…but we won’t get into that 🤭
Instead look at these snippets of their shared group chat ✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The characters are totally OOC but again, this AU makes no sense and is just for fun! It’s not to be taken seriously in any measure.

Disvo elysium au where harry’s taking atypical antipsychotics and instead of alcohol giving any stats bonuses it just lets you fall asleep wherever you take the alcohol, which in some cases leads to not having to pay garte and in other cases leads to humourus added cutscenes in which evart yells at you or the smoker on the balcony is concerned after you supposedly passed out immediately after talking to him

I’m still on my small world tismed rampage. Sorry grandpa. What do you think of the Disneyland Paris clock tower? It seems to be Chaos’s favorite.
Tumblr media
You know, I think it would be funny if "Grandfather Time" caught on as another nickname for me. It isn't as humourus as "Mr. Babygirl", but it's got a pleasant silliness to it!
Onto the clock tower, the pop of colour is wonderful to look at; it's beautiful in itself, and just as immaculate as the other variations! However...my preference leans towards the American iterations just a little more. I have a bias because (as you know) white is my favourite colour! I always love seeing white against pastels and metallic accents...it's one of my favourite colour combinations. :)
I know very well why Chaos prefers this one...it's mostly because of the face and the choice of colours. I love spreading a little gossip about her from time to time, so I'll indulge all of you with another tidbit: she is a sucker for moon and sun motifs, especially when they're portrayed as two halves of one face...and that's not to mention how much she loves grandfather clocks with those themes.
Here is an example:

============= Synopsis
"Late Thursday night. You've had a hard day and the last thing you need is this: shopping. Luckily, the place is pretty empty and you're progressing rapidly. On to the next aisle...
============= Other Info
Aisle is an Inform 6 parser game, first published in 1999. It is a beloved short IF game which became a staple in the IF annals, wining Best Medium at the XYZZY awards and making it on multiple best IF games of all times lists. The game was also parodied in Pick Up the Phone Booth and Aisle and referenced in other IF parsers.
Status: Completed
Genre: Slice-of-life
CW: /
Note: depending on the action picked: violence, assault, mention of death, depression, illnesses, suicide, murder, nudity (those account for about 15% of actions?)
============= Playthrough
First Played: Jan/Feb? 2023*
Last Played: 26-May-2023
Playtime: around 30min (walkthrough)
Rating: - /5
Thoughts: A beautiful and tragic game, a masterpiece of good experimentation.
*technically not played by myself, but during a shared streaming with the French IF Community
============= Review
Aisle started out as a game which would not need the usual meta-verbs... i.e. a game with only one turn. The initial idea was: How do I make a game with only one turn interesting? Give it lots of endings--in fact there are many 'endings' and (hopefully) every sensible action results in an 'ending'. There is no winning action. There is however more going on than just this and the more endings you see the more things should become clear." [--blurb from The Z-Files Catalogue]
Spoilers ahead. It is recommended to play the game first. The review is based on my understanding/reading of the story.
You play an (older?) gentleman doing some late night groceries after a long day. Most of it is pretty mundane and uninteresting, until you see some fresh gnocchi in the pasta aisle. Your mind can only think of the last time you had those, in Rome. Around you, the shelves block your view to the other aisles, and a brunette woman stands a few meters away, filling her trolley with pots of sauce.
And in this aisle you stop your trolley, waiting on what to do next.
Though I never found more than a few dozens by myself/with the French IF peeps, there are over 136 actions producing an ending in this game. 136! Whether you interact with yourself or your environment, there are a lot more you can explore with this very restrained environment.
Even if the experiment of one-action-the-end is truly amusing and insanely entertaining (who doesn't like a treasure hunt for all 136 endings*), it is the writing that shines the most in this piece. The game is humourus, and dark, has bits of lightness, and becomes incredibly sordid, it is sad and genuinely touching... It can say so much with so very little. Truly incredible.
*a Gotta Catch them All! but endings xD
Through the endings, a backstory forms around the PC. Or maybe two or three. He had a wife, went to Rome with her, but something happened (death/illness/something else?), and he was left alone. It is not truly clear what happened to his wife, or the PC's involvement in said disappearance/death*, but what is certain is the pain and the guilt the PC still feels after all this time (has it be years, by now?), making him unable to form new connections with people, leaving him truly and completely alone. What stays is his fond memory of that trip to Rome and those gnocchi he ate there...
*some endings mention the PC killing the wife, others talks of her suicide (assisted/alone, etc...
======== Sidenote
Aisle is the reason The Roads not Taken exists. The OG idea was to recreate the gameplay of Aisle, but in a different setting. While this didn't pan out, TRNT was still heavily influenced by this game.

A Lifetime Apart - pt. 5
Five years having past, you and your small family are settled in DC. Having successfully given birth to your beautiful baby boy Daryl Junior. Not a day passes that Daryl isn't in your mind and you think about him every time you see DJ. The world has hardened you, and you've kept your family hidden from the world around you; all except for a man called Jesus. One day when out scouting for supplies with Ben you happened to find A community on a hill, surrounded by big wooden walls. Hope had blossomed in your heart and you'd watched the community for a week, debating if it's in your family's best interests to approach. Your hope was quickly squashed when an armada of heavily armed men killed one of the communities teenagers. Having seen and put your family in harms way due to being apart of large communities under threat, you refused to do that to them again.
Even though you had decided not to approach the community, you didn't want to remain ignorant to the only community you had seen in quite some time. Taking some time you had decided to on your own approach a man you had seen provide quite well for his community, "Hey."
Startled, not having expected to hear another voice around him the man jumped, "Shit! Hi, not used to being snuck up on like that!" It was almost humourus to see this tall and mysterious man comically holding his chest.
"Wasn't my intention to scare you, but I was definitely being stealthy." Smiling to yourself, you could tell from having observed him for so long that you didn't have to be on edge, but you weren't ready to let your'e guard down entirely. "I've seen you around. You are from that community on the hill, right?"
He quickly recovered and sobered up enough to remember to have his guard fully up. Hesitantly he surveyed the area around him. You had intentionally chosen to approach him on this open farm, because you wanted him to feel as comfortable as possible, but also know you were safe to evade him at any point. "Who are you? Why approach me?"
Sighing and reclining yourself to lean against a hay bail, "I'm just someone who wants a friend in this hell scape. Are you willing to be that friend?"
"I don't know. How long have you been watching me?" Eyeing you nervously, it was obvious he was trying to evaluate what your intentions were.
"Only for about a week, and in that time you've shown to be quite the reliable little helper for your community." From the years of having to interpret what people were thinking before they could say it, "Before you suggest it, no I will not join your little group. Ive seen the people you are forced into submission by, and I'm not interested in being apart of that. I am interested in learning about them though, because I happen to reside in the area and wouldn't want to end up on their shit service."
"Do you live alone?" He questions, giving you a sad look.
"I live with the proper amount of people, that's all you need to know. Certainly not any army, so no need to worry, but if I wanted I have enough gun power to burn you to the ground." Caught in a stand still you can see him thinking over his options, and debating what to say next.
Smiling he approaches and puts his hand out, "I'm Paul, but my friends call me Jesus."
"Nice to meet you Jesus, I'm y/n. What about my threat to destroy an entire community made you feel safe to approach me?" You had half expected him to get angry and try to kill you. Smiling and walking towards you wasn't the expected outcome, but you were pleased.
"Call it a faith in humanity, or pure blind hope, but I feel like you're not half bad." Smiling you finally shook his extended hand.
"Well Jesus, I better be off, but if you need to contact me there's paper in the tractor over there. I'll meet you back here in seven days, and in the meantime I'll be near bye!" Waving goodbye and parting ways you headed back to see your boys. Although you felt that Jesus was a good guy, you were careful to cover your tracks on your way home.
Arriving home with a string of squirrels you were able to shoot with your bow on the way home, DJ and his two anxious looking big brothers greeted you. "MOM!! I missed you! I coloured you a picture while you were away! Tye helped me!" Smiling fondly at your little beautiful four year old DJ you picked him up.
"I love it baby!" Smiling you tickled him until he was squirming to be put down. Observing the picture your son had drawn you noticed there was five people all holding hands. One happened to be holding what looks to be a crossbow.
Walking over Tye hugged you and whispered, "He wanted to make sure Dad was in the picture. He had me draw the crossbow, since he's never seen one."
Tearing up you gave Tye a kiss on the cheek and thanked him, "how did I manage to get such good sons?" Looking at Ben and Tye, "You've both grown to be wonderful young men! Your dad would be proud to see how amazing you both are!"
Tye just hugged you tighter and Ben walked over and joined the hug sniffling; although, they were both nineteen and had outgrown you long ago, they were still your little boys. Wanting to feel included DJ pulled on Ben's shirt and he bent over to pick him up. You felt so happy and grateful to be able to have all your sons alive and with you, but you just wished that Daryl was here to see how wonderful they all were. Even though it seemed insane to think he was still alive out there and that you would be able to find him, you wanted to head to Georgia and comb every city and forest for him. You knew that DJ was still too young to make the journey though, so the trip would have to wait until he was older. Loosing his hold on you, so he could talk to you Tye asked, "How did today go with that guy?"
Choosing to pull your children closer and tighter you responded, "Jesus is now a friend. We'll find out how reliable he can be as time goes on. We are meeting again in a week. Now who's going to help me prepare these squirrels."
A sad longing overcame your heart as you watched your sons giggle and interact. You thought of the future and all the time Daryl has missed, but you kept going in order to keep the Dixon family strong and together.

Pete McGraw is a leading researcher at the Humor Research Lab at the University of Colorado, Boulder. In this talk he not only discusses what is funny, but what makes something funny as well.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Though I don't think a intellectual "top down" understanding of humor is very useful when it comes to trying to live a more humourus life, many comedians seem to have almost no idea about the mechanics of why something's funny, but they get by pretty well on pure intuition. Humor often needs to be quick, and I think there are a lot of subtleties that only a intuitive understanding of humor will pick up on.
